Me TOOOOOOOO! Meg,I am so thankful for this thread and my friends here!!!
The afghan I am working on is from alll free crochet- but I have gotten a lot of patterns from Lion brand.. Hey, Ruth, do you follow football much? Got a favorite team?
This orange tree is big- in the largest size pot I can find and yes, it comes in for the winter. It's a calmondine Orange, makes lots of small supe sour oranges, that smell amazing. But the taste is crazy sour. This is the first year that so many have ripened at the same time, and yes I have enough to make marmalade.
I had to rip out 2 rows of the baby afghan- and it was just because I did not understand how to end each row. (Directions were a little lacking on that). But the fix is easy....and I am back in business. I do like this pattern.
Hope you all get some time in crating today! Ginny

Hello Crafters - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I hope you are all doing well today. It's a nice sunny day here in Maryland, temps in the 50s. I went and sat outside for a little bit to enjoy it, since we're supposed to get weather in the 30s later this week.
I did some embroidery today since this year I decided I wanted to participate in something called Slow Stitch Sundays. There is a lady who blogs about quilting and needlework and every Sunday she has decided she will only do handwork instead of machine work. I check out her blog each Sunday and I decided I want to do some handwork each Sunday too. I have lots of embroidery and hand quilting projects I'd love to finish, so I hope I can keep this up each week.
Thanks for the suggestions for the shawl pattern. I'll check out the Lion site and crochet.com. I'd like to make an easy shaw so I thought the rectangular one would be a good one to start with. I've set a bunch of quilting goals and I need to set some crochet and knitting goals too. Ginny - that's a funny story about your mother's granny squares and your carpet. I could never have thrown away anything my mother made either. I think I still have a latchhook project that my grandmother was working on before she passed away. It's packed away somewhere. I hope you enjoy making your marmalade. I used to make strawberry and peach preserves every year (and sometimes fig too), but haven't done that for many years.
Ruth - The two quilting feet that I have for my machine are 1)the Walking foot that's pretty big, and 2) the Open Toe foot which is a smaller circular bottom with a hole in it. You probably have at least one of them and maybe both came with your machine. Hope you get to your crochet today
Meg and Phyl - Hope you are enjoying your day.
Take care everyone

Happy New Year, Ruth, Ginny, cj & Phyl. Lets hope it will be a great year. I did stay up until midnight because I was knitting & listening to a audio book and was really interested in the story.. My DGD in Florida phoned me just before midnight so I had a nice chat with her. Otherwise it was a very quiet evening here.
Ginny & Ruth, Here in California it is about this time that the oranges are ready to harvest. I don't have a tree in my yard but a lot of people do. Oranges are really good at this time of year. I have never made marmalade but I have made Rhubarb Marmalade. I found the recipe in my mothers cook book. I don't have anything planned for today so I will probably do some more knitting and listen to my audio book.
I will check back later. Keep warm.

cj, we were posting at the same time. Having a slow stitch Sunday sounds like an interesting idea. I like the Lion Brand web site and get their e-mails every week. I used to print out a lot of their patterns but I don't do that quite as much now. But it is a good web site. Have a great day.

Meg, I never have heard of rhubarb marmalade but I LOVE rhubarb in any form and I think the marmalade would be fantastic. Oh and I used to get Lion email but I haven't for awhile. I wonder what happened there. I'll have to go back and sign up again probably
Ginny, yes sometimes the directions for the first and last stitch are not spelled out the way they should be. For instance, when crocheting in a circle some designers refer to the stich you slip stitch into as the first stitch and some mean the next stitch so sometimes it takes trial and error to find out what's really meant. I like patterns where they tell you how many stitches you're supposed to have in the row when it's done because then you can figure out what went wrong if anything did, right then
The organge tree sounds very interesting but I'd bet it's too cold in my house for it to thrive.
CJ, it does sound like great weather where you are. It's supposed to be very, very cold here all this coming week again with highs some days below zero. Good days to stay in and sew or crochet or knit. The weekly hand stitching does sound nice.
