Ruth, can I bring anything for the meal? (Gosh, can you imagine if we actually were able to pull off all of us getting together?). I hope you were able to find something you can make for company that is budget friendly, easy to prepare and something your family will enjoy. It can be a struggle finding a menu like that.
Think I am going to walk to the local Memorial Day parade later- Dh and I used to do that- and I hope that it does not bother me too much. Yesterdays visit to Cracker Barrel was financed by gift cards to CB given to us. My kids knew that Dh and I love CB and really enjoy being there and several times gave us gift cards. CB is a bit of a drive from my home and I would not drive myself there just to eat by myself. But I thought it would brighten Bonnie’s day to take her there…
Got some housework to do this am and get caught up. At some point later on I will work on my PMQ and hopefully get this months blocks done. Only have one day to finish the work for May, which I think will probably get done in early June.
See ya later. Ginny

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY, let's remember Flander's field and the Red Poppies, not sure if poppies are being sold today or not, what Memorial day is about.
this is sad, yesterday Don asked Tom at church if the American Leigion had anything going on today we could got to.anser is they are bearly able to keep the doors open. people use to stop for 1-2 beers after work and go home. now because of the drinking laws they just go home.2 beers and you can get a ticket.
we are going to lunch someplace today, target to get a script and probably come home.kids are doing their own thing.
so enjoy t oday however you can. phyl

Yes, Phyl that is rather sad- but I would hope that those who hang out at the legion hall do so for the camaraderie and not the beer. Hope that you went someplace nice for lunch and enjoyed the meal. I did make it to the Memorial Day parade in town- its small but always a proud event, one honoring those who gave their lives for this great nation. And I have my flags flying. so I did finish my PMQ blocks for the month- even before the month ended!! They actually left one step out in the directions but as it is shown in the diagram I put the piece on exactly as shown. I did take a pic of this months blocks- was lazy and took it in the sewing room so there is batting and a bed spread beneath. I am glad that I got this set of blocks done, as I did not want to fall behind. I am looking forward to getting back to work on the QAYG- which will most likely not take place until next weekend.

I didn't do a thing for the holiday but I do appreciate the men and women who have worked hard to defend out great country and died in the process. PHyl, back in NY I worked with a man that spent a LOT of his time at the Am Legion. He worked two jobs but still managed to get in his Legion time. I did some crocheting today and finished the little hooded doll sweater and am now working on a blanket for #4 grandson who is 8 He picked a filet star pattern. Well he actually picked 4 patterns but when I asked what one he would like me to do first he picked the star blanket. I'm only on the first row and I think I need to redo because Red Heart/Yarnspirations refuses to give the multiples for their patterns so in the comments for the video one woman said she was pretty sure the multiple was 23 plus 2. well I tried that and it didn't work but it also may be the way they have it written where they don't specify if you need to count the last dc of the repeat as one of the "dc in the next 10" They're supposed to be pros but I know a lot of "litte designers" that do a much better job. Guess I'm going to have to watch their video and see if this part is covered in the video. Comments say a lot is left out. Ginny, it's great that you got your blocks done before the month is even over. All of you ladies do a great job.Well I've never seen a picture of any of Phyl's but I'm sure she does.

Well, looking at my blocks they sure could use a good pressing, which I will get to when I am ready for final assembly.. Think I have 5 more months of blocks to make. The fabrics are a ton brighter than I originally thought, but it does really take me out of my comfort zone so why not. Thanks for telling me that they are pretty- I am not so sure that they are(and am not fishing for complements either!). I do prefer symmetrical quilts and have no idea how this one is supposed to finish up.
Ruth, what color yarn are you using for the Filet star afghan forDGS? That sure stinks that RH does not have accurate directions. I do know that you can contact their web site or a moderator and they will help you out with your question. I am so sorry that much is left out of their directions, so very frustrating.
Its so hot here, well over 90. Good day to stay inside and stay cool

And you didn't mention your feet that you posted a picture of while posting the blocks. I think you did a great job making the blocks. Do you already have the fabric for June's blocks? And you don't sound like you like it a lot but I bet that when it's complete it will look great. I scrapped the filet stars blanket for now. I had sent dgs a picture of a blanket made in a star shape and he wrote back and said he likes it a lot. He wasn't all that enthusiastic about the filet star one so I think he likes the star shape better. Hopefully he does because I started that one today and have a lot done already. It's kind of one of those mindless crochet patterns where you can practically do in your sleep.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well Ginny - I'm glad for you that your finished your blocks this month. Those fabric colors are really vibrant, it's going to be a pretty quilt. Ruth - I'm glad you get to work on a nice mindless project. Phyl - Hope you had a nice lunch yesterday. Sue - Hope you are well. It's very hot here, in the 90s and sunny and I think tomorrow is supposed to be the same. I finally went ahead and set up one of my AC units, so I hope that will help with the heat in the house. The roofing company called this morning and wanted to come to my house right then. I said for them to come, but I would have appreciated more notice. The guy was here for an hour and could not find where the water is getting under the roof! He ran water over the roof for a long time, but I didn't have any come in the house. It was funny but the roof where it looked broken up a few weeks ago, looked flatter now - confusing. I have to wait for the next heavy rain and see if I get rain again, which I'm sure I probably will before calling them back. I may think about calling another company to come look at it in the meantime. I had stuff to do yesterday and with all this roofing and AC stuff today I haven't done any work on my quilting for a few days. I really hoped I would get those blocks done, but I guess I can work on them in the next few days. Take care everyone

Nope- Ruth did not mention that I also caught my feet in the picture of the quilting blocks!!! Ha ha ha. Guess now you can see that I sew barefoot- I know from quilting classes that most of us do. Hope that DGS likes the Afghan you are now working on.
CJ- actually the roofer sort of did you a favor by responding as he did. I hope you never get another leak but would document the leak by taking pics with your cell phone. And a second opinion is an excellent idea! Try not to overthink it- start trying to find that second opinion. Hope it’s cooled down by you also, so you can get back to quilting.
Phyl- Sounds like you had great plans to get out this weekend, and opted for a quiet time. Hope you can get some quilting time in.
I made 3 more QAYG blocks last nite. Had to change thread color and bring out my cutting tools that I put away cause the little ones were at my house.
Hi Sue- hope you are doing well. See ya later!

Ginny, I'm mostly always in bare feet except now in winter I have to keep my feet warm due to Raynaud's. Does your's affect your toes too? And congratulations on the more blocks done.
For this blanket I'm using Big Twist soft which is a Joann's brand. I don't know that I'll every buy it again because it's absolutely impossible to find an end for the center pull. I had to wind my yarn in a ball before I could use it. A lso, while many people complain about finding knots, I didn't find any knots but twice found long sections of the yarn that was not connected to the rest of the yarn on the skein. And, although it's called "soft", it isn't any softer than RHSS.And speaking of RHSS ... I never have washed items I crocheted because most are for the grands and my ddil washes everything that comes into the house. Or at least I thought so. But I don't think she does that anymore. The other day when I made the doll size blanket I did a trial and washed it...oh my goodness...it came out so soft!!!! So guess who will be washing crocheted things now!

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's in the lows 90s here, but cloudy, so I hope that keeps the heat level down some. It was nice to get my bedroom cool last night with the AC installed. I was able to get all my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks done for June, except for the strip blocks I make. I have all the 4.5 inch strips cut, and I have all month to make them. I'll put some pictures of my blocks below. The new Moda Blockhead pattern came out today and today is also the first day of the Laundry Basket Summer Mystery quilt along. I'm so happy because she is using the fabrics that I bought from her store. I'm going to make my blocks exactly the same as she is - it's such a relief not to worry about choosing fabrics Here's a link to her website: www.laundrybasketquilts.com/post/summer-mystery-quilt-2022-week-1Take care everyone! Jelly Roll Rock - I really like this pattern and hope to make one with one of the Jelly Rolls that I have: Keyhole Blocks - these are so easy to make, I need to use one of my Jelly Rolls to make one of these quilts too : These are my Secret Lives of Color Blocks - the quilt along using the book of the same name. I'm only making 2 blocks per color. I went ahead and the only two colors left now are brown and black and we don't make them until after Summer. I really stretched myself to use different background fabrics in these blocks, I usually like to use a more solid white or cream: These are the Bento Box blocks. Looking at them is making me dizzy, I'm not really happy with these and I usually mess them up when I'm making them. I wonder if adding a sashing would help? There are only 3 more to make - purple, orange and brown. I might go ahead and finish these just to be done with it, or maybe just stop now. I was also thinking I could rip the four blocks apart and use them as small blocks instead of all together.

EVENING, Tomorrow we will be going to the quilt shops,no sew day.
cj I have been thinking about your leak, it may not be the roof, could be someplace with the chimney or a possible window.
last JULY Delona checked on her mom's house,e had like 5 -7 inches of rain the day before. .water was in the basement.she called a water company and they wanted to do a ditch like thing and it would cost over $5,000. well her dd boyfriend looked at it and said it is coming from the chimney,so now she has called several places and they don't do chimneys.the insurance co will not insure the house if the chimney is not down, they did send out a guy and he will do it.she needs to talk to him some more.
when her folks bought the house there was a wood burner in the basement.they never used it.
Jeana had a leaky window, (rental)the rain would come and she would get water inside her sink. had the roof looked at several times, got a
hold of a guy who did siding and he took some siding off and found the leak.
also I KNOW what they called shasing around the chimney needs to be checked. .learned that one from Don many years ago.
watching homes on homes one night he said you can't fix a leak till you know for sure where it is coming from.hope this give you some ideas to ask the next person you have come out.phyl

I will get back to cutting batting later on…..
Phyl- great advice on leaky homes and we all hope that CJ can settle this soon and have a leak free home. How many different quilt shops did you get to today?
CJ- I totally agree that the jelly roll rock is an awesome pattern and looks so pretty!! You did a great job with all the blocks and the secret lives of color blocks are also so pretty. I agree with the bento blocks, they seem to make me feel a bit dizzy also, but you did a lovely job putting them together. I think it would be best not to take the blocks apart- and find a border to calm the busyness. Some people would love that quilt and how very interesting a quilt it is!!!
Ruth, yes it does help to wash the crochetted items. And I spend most of my time in the house barefoot also. How tough is it to make yarn?? Why are yarn companies not able to get it right? One of the yarns I am working with is a disaster (Like yours) to find the end of, so like you, I spend a ton of time balling the yarn to make it easy to work with.
Okie dokie….bbl Ginny
