Ruth, sounds like this crochet pattern you are working on is pretty but a yarn hog. Do you have a go to pattern that you would use for a quick and easy to make afghan? As you have so much of this yarn (all the same color?), will you use the same color for another afghan for your neighbor should you change yarn patterns? Spirit is a very pretty color way- love the teal blue, blue combination. I am sure you will find a good pattern to use for an afghan for your neighbor. I know he has been very kind to you and your Dh over the years.
I have to do some reading today also- I need to settle on which chapter of the book I am going to teach. I have an idea how I want to finish the veterans quilt but need to come up with a pattern of sorts, I saw a pretty design which had cornerstones on the corners, with 4 stars in each corner stone, and then several borders along the side. The other choice is a 9 patch block on the corner, and the different colored border stripes on the sides and top. I already have the directions to do that, so if I get lazy, I could just fall back on those directions. i can always ask at the quilt shop tomorrow when I get there too.
See ya later…. Ginny

Spent a good amount of time online today….but I did settle on making a sawtooth star block (from a quilting life.com, think CJ got her moda blockhead pattern from there). I did a youtube search and stumbled upon the directions there. Her youtube video is pretty good, made total sense to me. Combining that with the directions I have from the panel magic pattern I already have and I think I can make a nice panel quilt that I will not hate myself for starting and it should look good as long as I can come up with the right fabrics.
Unfortunately in my searching I went through the quilt books I have here and found another quilt that I want to make. Ugh. But its a scrappy quilt made by a young girl- a 10 year old in 1899. Well if a 10 year old can make that quilt than so can i. So add that to my list and I should not have to buy any fabric for that project, other than the backing and batting.
So off I will get to the quilt shop….gotta check their hours as they have strange hours, very limited but that is normal for the smaller quilt shops.
Hope everyone has had a good day…..Phyl and Sue, hope you are both doing well and getting some crafting time in. CJ and Ruth, hope you can check in later on. Ginny

Well we're finished with grocery shopping for awhile. How is a person supposed to eat withthe prices like they are? We bought just basic "poor folks" food and will just eat what we can get that's fairly reasonable The blanket pattern I'm working on now is this one but again, I won't be making it in the colors shown www.youtube.com/watch?v=mofXS1WurUAGinny, I know you'll do a great job on that quilt and now you have another project on your to do list. Maybe you'll catch up with CJ and me I think I'll do one that says it's the fastest blanket ever. Do you think this one would be ok for a man? www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUHdZjwkSnA&t=118s

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It was only in the 70s most of the day here with some rain, but it starting heating up this afternoon. Ruth - Both of those blankets are pretty, thanks for sharing links to the YouTube videos Ginny - I'm glad you figured out what you want to do with the panel quilt and that you found another quilt you'd like to make. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are getting to do some crafting. I finished making the quilt with the nectarine fabric, it went together quickly and measures 44x44. I'm happy with how it turned out. The pattern was from the Fat Quarter Shop - Fat Eighths Flapjack quilt. It's a nice easy pattern and I used yardage for mine. I won't start anything new now until I finish sewing the binding on the hand quilted piece. And I'll have the weekly quilt along blocks coming out on Wednesday. Take care everyone

Ruth, the yarn you will be using will make that afghan just fine….it will be lovely and the most important part is that you will be able to complete it quickly.
CJ- you make entire quilt tops in the time it takes me to figure out how I am going to work on a quilt border only!!! Congrats on finishing the nectarine fabric quilt. I bet it looks wonderful. Yes you have a busy week ahead getting your Wednesday blocks done and working on hand sewing the binding.
See ya tomorrow. Ginny

Wow, CJ, a whole quilt top in one day!! You are amazing. we had cool days on the weekend but today was in 90's but 90 here feels so much better than 90 where we just came home from. Anyway you'll probably end up with this heat.
Phyl, yes good luck. I know you can do it. Sounds like you have a great plan for housecleaning. I'm glad I cleaned mine thoroughly before we left so all I have is some dusting to do.
Thank you all for the comments on the patterns I posted. I'm going to go now and look at that quilt that CJ just did on that site

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today. It's a nicer day here, sunny and less humid. I went out this morning to get some groceries, so I'm glad to be done with that for a few weeks. Phyl - I hope your 4 patches came out alright I wasn't sure if I was going to show a picture of the Nectarine quilt or not, but I will. This quilt looks exactly how I wanted it to look - I know it's very "dark" with no real light fabrics, but I loved the 3 colors of these fabrics together and I'm happy with the top. Sometimes the things I like no one else does, and then sometimes the tops I really don't care for, everyone likes LOL. I did get a bit of binding sewn on last evening and hope to work on more of that today. I hope that you all are getting to do some crafting too. Take care

CJ- first off who cares if anyone else likes or dislikes the quilt (which I think it is very pretty!). This is how you wanted to make the quilt look and you did a great job. Nice work, and most importantly, I am glad that you are happy with how it turned out. Hand sewing, especially if you are doing it toward the end of the day can take a lot of time. Hand sewing is not meant to be done quickly…and I hope that you are enjoying the process.
Phyl, got a feeling that those 4 patch blocks are going to be perfect when you put them together. Love your cleaning schedule, and I hope that when its all done that your upstairs and basement are in great shape.
Ruth, how is that afghan coming along? Are you going forth with the fast growing shell pattern??
So I did, after a busy morning, get up to the quilt shop and get my fabric for the panel quilt. I am very pleased with what I selected ( with some assistance from the shop sales help). Instead of a patterned fabric, I ended up with a tonal blue (which will be the larger border) and a Kona red and Kona white fabrics. These fabrics ( I hope) will better showcase the quilt panel. Now I just have to figure out how to quilt this when I get it done.
See ya in the am Ginny

Well CJ, this quilt is very pretty. Even if it doesn't have light colors in it it's still very beautiful and the important thing is that you like it so you did a great job going ahead and doing it how you, personally wanted it to look.
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that you got the fabric you needed. It does sound like the perfect colors for that quillt.
I'm still working on my original blanket. I really like how it looks so I just kept going on it.If I stop working on it it would probably end up on the pile of unfinished blankets I have in my craft room. Still I probably will start the other one very soon and it will definitely be before this one is done. the other one will go fast. This current one is definitely a yarn eater or yarn hog. I'm nearly done with my first Mandala cake and the blanket is only 9 1/2 inches so a long way and several more cakes to go. It will be a throw size I think so that is 60 inches so 65 more cakes then the border will take some more. I checked on my stash today and I have 16 of these cakes left. It's one of the very few yarns I have that I have enough of to make a blanket if I want to make it in just one color
Have a great night everyone

Ruth, you just answered my one question- that being how many cakes of that yarn do you have. Are you planning on using that mandala yarn also for the afghan for your dear neighbor?Think its a great idea that you do finish the yarn hog afghan though, you like the pattern and I get it, if you abandoned that project it might fall into the UFO pile. Would you keep this project for yourself or give it to a grandchild? I know you took requests from your grand kids- who I hope your have FaceTimed or video chatted with since your visit.
Woke up to a lovely 52 degrees this am. Its only temporary and the forecast shows warmer nights coming soon. Going for a walk with a friend shortly - will also run two short errands when I am out and then start work on the panel quilt this afternoon.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's going to be warmer here today, but it's sunny. Thanks for your comments on my nectarine quilt, I think it will be one of my favorites that I've made. Ginny - I'm glad you found fabrics to work for your panel quilt, they sound really pretty. Hope you enjoy the walk in the cooler weather. Ruth - I'm happy to hear you like how your blanket is looking. Wow, that is a lot of yarn to use for that one! Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. I found that I had a mouse in the house and set some traps on Monday. When I checked them yesterday I realized I had set them wrong and I did have a mouse who had a wonderful meal of peanut butter on Monday night I reset them yesterday and caught the mouse last night. I hated to kill it but I'm not up to catching it live and releasing it. I'm just hoping that was the only one and I wish I knew how it got in the house. I'm happy to say that I finished the binding on my hand quilted piece. I have had that one on my To-Do list for months! I just sit and stitched it while watching YouTube videos. I have to say that I give a lot of credit to quilters who finish all their quilts this way. I really prefer just to finish my binding on the machine - unless it's a special (heirloom-type) quilt. Here are pictures of the finished quilt, a picture of the backing fabric (I liked this fabric but could never figure out how to use it in a quilt, and it worked perfect for this quilt), and the thread that was left after the hand quilting was done - I just made it The three new weekly blocks came out today, so I've printed off the patterns and need to watch a few videos. I'm going to try to get the Pat Sloan blocks made today. Take care and have a great day!

CJ, It always feel so great to have completed something that has been sitting around and on your to do list for a long time. The top quilt you posted here llooks like a crochet pattern called Inverse Squares. Yes we deal with mice a lot. We live right beside a very large unoccupied piece of land and they come if from there. We actually found one in a bucket of water we had sitting in the kitchen while we were away. Dh caught another yesterday ( We had the water company turn out water off before we left and it was going to be turned back on until a couple of days after we got back so had put a lot of water aside to use until that happened
Ginny, have a good walk with your friends and hope the errands go well and you can get home and work on your quilt and relax
I plan on using my 16 cakes of Mandala for a few things to use it up then I have to find something to make that uses only one or two cakes. The blanket i'm working on now will be added to my bin full of completed blankets that I will use when someone needs or requests a blanket. Instead of having them look up a pattern I'll show them picture of those already done. I have three grandchildren in ds' family that are still waiting for blankets. I didn't have the color yarn that one of them would like so I ordered it and will start that one after I get the neighbor's blanket done. I suspected that a person I know was pregnant but it turns out she isn't so no blanket needed there.
It's hot here and will continue to be hot for awhile now

Hi Ruth, Hope you are able to stay cool in the heat That's a great idea to let people see an actual picture of a complete blanket instead of just looking at a pattern. Good luck with finishing the three blankets for your other grandchildren. I made my Summer Camp/Pat Sloan blocks and I'm happy with how they came out. And I've figured out the colors/fabrics for the rest of the blocks (there are 5 more) and the sashing fabrics too, I think. I think for the floral version I'm going to make 5 blocks with the blue fabric and 4 blocks with the yellow/mint green combination. I tried the block with only green or only yellow, and I didn't care for it. I'm really happy with how the tonal fabric blocks are coming along. The block this week is the one with the star in the middle. I think the Moda blocks will have to wait until tomorrow, unless I just get the fabrics cut.
