good evening girls, well of the 40 squares 13 did not turn out,so 27 good ones did.Last time out of 4O squares 19 did not turn out,21 did, SO improved a little.
last night's guild meeting was interesting,we has a gal from grandmas's legacy
Albert Lea.MN.
who does wool work, her and her mom own the shop her grandma was always busy with her hands. boy these gals do beautiful work, their stitches are so tiny like with leaves and so on. I am not into wool work, have done a few small pieces.boy the ladies sure were buying.
CJ, I like the tangerine quilt, different colors ,very pretty and you love it that's what counts.I would not be surprise if you put it in a local quilt show and it would win a ribbon, never know what the judges like. phyl

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today It's warm here and sunny, but not too bad. I was able to finish making my two Moda Blockheads block and the 8 blocks for the Laundry Basket quilt along, so I'm all caught up. I may take a break from quilting tomorrow and do something else Phyl - I'm glad that some of your squares turned out alright It's nice to have an interesting guild meeting, I'm glad you could go. Thanks for your kind words on my quilt. Hope everyone else is getting to do some crafting too. Take care

Phyl, I'm happy to hear that some of your blocks turned out the way you wanted them to.
CJ, It's a nice feeling to be caught up I'm sure.
Ginny, you must be having another busy day
Well the yarn that dh ordered for me came today. He ordered 4 of one of the yarns and two were deliver to our house and the other two to the mailbox and the ones in the mailbox came in two different packages! I actually told him to order me ten but the seller would only allow 4 to each customer so next time he orders he will order me 4 more if they're still the same price. Tomorrow the yarn for dgd's afgan is to be delivered so I may set aside this blanket and work on her's and may go back and forth between the two. Maybe keep one downstairs in the bedroom and the other up here in the living room. This one I'll start tomorrow is the chevon which I don't really want to make but it's the one she requested
I ended up having a bit more yarn in my first Mandala cake than I thought so that blanket won't take as much yarn as I thought. It's now 12 inches and I want close to 60 inches so 4 more cakes instead of six
Ok back to work. I'll stop in later to see if Ginny stops in

Here I am……
Ruth, glad your yarn arrived!! Interesting that some of the yarn was delivered to the house and some to your Mail box- but I guess that is the difference between delivery companies and the firms that they deliver for. Glad it is all there. What yarn did you order for DGD’s afghan? I have noticed in my email several good yarn sales, sounds like you are taking full advantage of those. Its a nice idea to be able to switch back and forth from one afghan to another so that you do not become bored with them. The same pattern after awhile can be tedious for sure.
CJ- you had a productive day, and are now all caught up for this week- waiting for next week for new blocks. How many more weeks do you have on these quilt alongs? Yes, take a break if necessary - you have been so productive at the machine. Knowing you, you will look for new patterns to take on when these quilt alongs draw to a close. Did you end up putting your air conditioning on? Think we are both in for some warmer temps for the next few days. Hope you are able to stay comfortable. If not, there is always air conditioning in Joanns, but I suspect you might look at fabric there!!
Phyl- my sister is into wool work, it sure is pretty but not something I would get into. You have improved how many good squares you are able to make, so that is great. Have you been able to trouble shoot what is causing you difficulty?
I worked this am and then went to have the car washed. Came home….checked email and figured I would then settle into some quilting. I got my fabric out and was watching the video on how to make these star blocks- then Jane asked if she could stop over and a few minutes later the contractor who installed my water proofing system stopped in (I have a minor question/problem with it) stopped in. Then Ds came home late from work- but was very conversant - so I have gotten no quilting done today. What I did do is watch the video twice and have decided that first I will make the star block using scrap fabric. (Oh I did take out my flying geese template, which was easy to find cause I created a storage box just for my templates). I will make the block two ways (again in scrap fabric) one using half square triangles and the other using flying geese and see which one I prefer. The you tube indicates that both can work. I am afraid that my template might be slightly too large so the HST method will have to work.I will take a look at that tomorrow…I know Dd is coming over tomorrow for a while, so I doubt I will be able to quilt much then.
I broke down and put on the AC mid afternoon. Its warm and tomorrow is supposed to be 90. Yuck.
Have a good night all Ginny

hi, thank your for your nice comments about the squares.no, I don't know what the problems is,I might have to move the needle over one more notch for a scant 1/4 seam.
there were questions on Pat Sloan's face book today about it.
WELL we found out yesterday the guy who ran the red light did not have insurance,he is probably out of the state by now.I knew when he stepped out o the car ,something was wrong with this guy.
the insurance will pay ,we pay the first $500 ..after the car is fixed they will presure it more, hope they find him.
I will not be going on the bus trip to the Madison quilt show.Don will take me.
that way when this leg get tried ,I can come home.
not enough I have a deaf ear, diabetes, high platelets ,several low back problems, now arthritis in left leg(mostly ankle) and degeneration .gggggrrrrrr
yes I know it could be worse, least I AM STILL WALKING AND TRYING TO GET AROUND. PHYL

Phyl,I'm sorry to hear that you now have yet another medical issue with the arthritis in your leg.I know you and Don are on the go a lot so I hope that leg feels better soon. Unfortunately arthritis is never cured but some things can make it feel a little less painful. My dh also has bad arthritis in his leg and it's his left leg too that hurts the most, He has arthritis in his neck too and probably most of his body but has only had his leg and neck xrayed. It's great that you have a good husband who is more than willing to take you to places you need or want to go especially since you may want to go home earlier than the others.
Ginny, I'm glad you got to watch the video but you probably also enjoyed the visit with Jane and were glad the person that installed your drainage system stopped over to answer your questions and address your issues. The yarn I ordered for dgd's afgan is RHSS in gold. She wants her afgan in gold and white. For the picture she saw online they used Scarfie yarn which I couldn't find anywhere for a reasonable price. It was in the mustard/cream colorway which I love also but I'm not going to pay the prices I saw.The afghan would have cost atleast $80 to make if I bought the lowest price I found. Red Heart with Love is also a great yarn and comes in gold but I couldn't find it for a reasonable price either at least not in gold and white.
Anyone have plans for the holiday weekend? I don't. I might watch fireworks from my front yard but didn't feel like watching last year and probably won't this year either.

Phyl- how far a car ride is the quilt show from you? What a sweetheart Don is to offer to drive you there! I hope that its a fun trip for you and him and that you can see what you want to at the show.I am so thankful that you are able to do what you do, you have a wonderful husband, and a joy for life that is obvious in your posts. Keep going, as you have been…. Regarding your accident, well the best part is that you and Don were not injured. I suspected that the other person had no insurance and that is certainly not anything you can do a thing about. Regretfully the insurance companies deal with this all the time, but usually do an excellent job, sooner or later they do catch up with most legal drivers. Good that all you have to pay is your deductible.
Ruth, has the price of yarn gone up? (Have not bought yarn since early pandemic). RHSS in gold is a pretty color and paired with white will be stunning. Do you have a pattern picked out to make the afghan in? Well if we can view the fireworks from your front yard…then I will hop in the car and head out to visit!! Ha ha ha Perhaps as a celebration of being home again you might want to watch the fireworks from your yard, but of course the weather has to be cooperative so that its comfortable to view them. I hope that you and Dh are settling back into your normal routines. Other than the waist high grass, was everything ok at home? It must be nice to be back in your fully stocked kitchen and yarn stash.
In for a scorcher today. I am walking with a friend this am and then Dd and DGS will be here. Dd has a doctor appointment (she broke out into a rash…it seems allergic in nature and needs to be checked out). I did take out some scraps of fabric last night, to see which way comes out better, using HST’s or flying geese. Not sure if I will get to that today, with Dd coming and a walk this am. I also have to work on my material for Bible study which I am teaching in 11 days. I have a large chapter of material that I want to strip down to be covered in one evening. At the moment it seems overwhelming but I figure it will be ok once I get a good handle on the material.
Gotta get ready to start the day. G

Hello Everyone Ruth - I'm glad you received your yarn, and I hope the chevron quilt goes quickly so it will be done and you can work on fun things. Hope you can enjoy seeing some fireworks this weekend. I don't have any plans, but sometimes some of the neighbors put off a nice display (even though it's illegal here LOL). Phyl - I'm glad your insurance will cover your car repairs. And I'm happy you get to go to a quilt show and I hope that you will feel well enough to stay as long as you want. I'll be interested to hear about it. Ginny - Sounds like yesterday was a busy day for you and maybe today too. Hope your DD is alright and the doctor can help her. It's really warm here too. I turned on the AC downstairs today to see how it does. Have you tried the 4 Flying Geese at a time method? I never thought I would like that, but I've used it a few times in my quilt alongs and it really works well and is pretty easy. The quilt alongs I'm participating in have a bit longer - Pat Sloan's has about 6 weeks left, Laundry Baskets finishes at the end of July and the Moda Blockheads goes through September. The monthly Oh Say Can You Sew ends in September too, I think. Pat Sloan has several small ones coming up - one is a Halloween wall hanging size. I might try that one. Sue - Hope you are well. I did some things around the house this morning and hope to do a few more this afternoon. I'm trying not to get into any quilting, although I have two projects I want to start - one uses a jelly roll and the other one uses a layer cake. I did clean out my sewing machine and put in a new needle this morning. I try to do this on the first day of every month. It needed a cleaning - there was a lot of lint in it. I have some peaches and nectarines that I bought at the store this week that are ripening up, so I'll be eating those quickly. I had bought some rhubarb too and made a rhubarb-strawberry sauce and I'm eating that with my vanilla yogurt. I think I might make some macaroni salad this weekend too, it's a nice summertime-holiday food. Take care everyone

Ginny, yes the price of yarn has definitely, like pretty much everything else, gone up. I'm looking forward to this weekend when I hope to add to my stash with yarn that will go with the yarn I already have so that I will have enough of a lot of yarns to make large things. One of the yarns I need to get is Premier Basix. I bought it about a year or so ago and got the amount that was stated in the pattern but the amounts were for baby blankets and I want to make adult size. I especially need white. Herrschnerr's usually sells it at a good price but their shipping is absolutely ridiculously expensive. I'm going to make a list of what I need and get it into my cast on the site so that if they have free or low shipping I'll be ready to order. If not them maybe Joann's. I hope you had a good day with your dd and dgs.
CJ, sometimes we just have to stop our hobbies and do some house things. I know you do a lot of that and don't mention it. I also know you wanted to take a day off quilting and you have all your weekly blocks done so maybe if you need to you can work on something small that will be finished today. Do you ever make pot holders and small things like that? Maybe tote bags. There was something else I wanted to say but don't remember and a too lazy to open another tab and look back
My yarn for dgd's blanket arrived and I started the chevron. It definitely made me remember why I dislike making them. I did finally get the base rows completed and I think that possibly things MIGHT go well from here. This chevron is called Chevron with a twist. I't contains rows of not only double crochets but also front post dc's and rows of puff stitches.
It was hot here earier than we had a thunder storm with lots of rain but it didn't last long and now we're having another
Well I'm going to get back to crocheting

Happy Friday evening all!!!
Ruth, as your summers are usually dry, I would think that a thunderstorm is a good thing, unless the lightening starts a fire. Hope that the rain cooled things down a bit. That is awesome that your yarn arrived for DGD’s afghan. It sounds like a pretty but somewhat complicated pattern, which I am sure you can handle easily. Does Hershnerrs ever offer free shipping? I seem to remember ordering from them with a good shipping deal….which I hope you can work on before you need the premier basics yarn. I am sorry that the cost of yarn has risen so much.
CJ- will have to check out the 4 flying geese at a time method. Right now I have cut out using the ruler that I have and will get to sewing the geese tomorrow. Sounds like you will be busy with your cuttent QAL’s, leaving you time to make some awesome fall decoration quilts. That Halloween wall hanging might be fun. Yes, the joys of getting stuff done around the house, which sometimes you just have to do. Hope that your AC is keeping you comfortable. today was awfully warm.
Today was busy- Dd was here with DGS for quite awhile and it was great to spend the day with her. She usually is here on Saturdays but will not be here tomorrow as she has a wedding to attend. I got some housework done, hung out a load of laundry which dried in no time because it was hot and dry. Tomorrow I will get to sewing this sample block and I have to work on my study material for July12.
Hope everyone had a good day. Ginny

GOOD EVENING CRAFTERS,
today we went to PRAIRIE DU CHEN,YEP SAME QUILT SHOP. WAS GOING TO BUY FABRIC, INSTEAD BOUGHT A STRIPOLOGY BOOK AND 2 FAT QUARTERS.
was a nice drive and on the way home we got some rain.took my walker with and I did not have a problem with my leg hurting.think the walker gives me more of a balance then the cane,I think with the cane if standing I tend to lean on it.
Ginny the quilt show is 142 miles from us.I love stopping on the way home at CRACKER BARREL not only to eat ,maybe buy a sweatshirt or tee shirt depending on the season. they do have nice designs on their shirts. do I NEED ANOTHER SWEATSHIRT? LOL. PHYL

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the holiday weekend Ginny - I hope you were able to get your sample block made and your flying geese units came out like you wanted them too Phyl - How nice to get to go to a quilt store and make some purchases, hope you enjoy them. I'm glad your leg didn't hurt you on your outing. When is the quilt show? Sounds like it's nice day trip. Ruth - Hope you are getting to work on the chevron blanket. Sue - Hope you are well. It's been warm here but we missed the strong storms yesterday, so I was happy about that. My portable AC has not been keeping things as cool as it did last year. I think it's because I didn't raise it up like I did last year. Last night when I went to shut it off I noticed there was moisture underneath it. I think the drainage tube is not keeping the water in (and I did have it sealed). So I did have to clean out that up. Fortunately there wasn't any water on the carpet, since I had about 4 layers of protective covering over it (I learned my lesson the first year when I didn't have any ). Today it drained water again, around where I had the drainage tub sealed. So I've just drained out all the water and sealed it back up again and we'll see what happens. It used to cut off when the water built up, but it's getting old so maybe that isn't working anymore. Just one more irritating thing to deal with I actually finished a new quilt top this weekend. It's fairly large so I haven't been able to set things up to take a picture of it, but I will soon. (I'll try to get motivated to set up my design wall frame, so I can hang it on there for the picture). This one used a jelly roll and some background fabric. I based it on this quilt, but made a few changes: sewyummy.ca/trying-to-make-a-dent-in-the-stash/My fabric for this is a cowboy theme and I was lucky to have a background fabric that went perfectly with the jelly roll. The blocks went together quickly and after that it was just adding rows and sashing. Take care everyone

CJ, I love your cowboy quilt. I remember back when you bought the fabric or found it in your stash and I mentioned that I love in the "Cowboy State" I clicked the link you provided and that person too said she doesn't care for her colors but I really like them and hope she grows to like them also
We were supposed to have a cool down this weekend but here it is the last day of the weekend and it's still hot. We had a little rain. It lasted about 5 minutes then the sun came back out.
This blanket I'm making is the pattern "CHevron with a Twist" It's a real yarn hog also but I'm cutting out most of the puff stitch rows because they leave the blanket too open so I'm mostly using dc and fpdc ahich is also a yarn eater but that's fine. This chevron is a challenge to me but I think I'm on track. The hills part is fine but I have trouble with the valleys. It sounds very easy but when I actually do it I do find that I have a hard time getting the right stitches to skip.
Dh ordered me two more skeins of the yarn he got me the other day. He had something else he wanted to buy but needed more to get to $25 for free shipping.
I made a huge pasta salad today with all but the kitchen sink in it. There's a lot of it but my dh is a big eater and unlike Ginny's dh was, my dh does gain where Ginny's had a high metabolism and could eat a lot and stilll stay slim
Ginny, are you still having your Bible study tomorrow on the holiday? I'm sure you'll do a great job teaching

Funny you mention pasta salad, I made some the other day. I enjoy it a lot, perhaps a bit too much. Ruth how sweet of your Dh to order more yarn- might as well do what you have to do to get free shipping!!! Hope that you can conquer the chevron with a twist so its easier to notice the valleys and how to hook around them. Sure sounds like a pretty pattern however.
CJ- the cowboy quilt is pretty and actually looks a bit scrappy!!!Nice job. Hope that you were able to straighten out the problem with the airconditioner. Home ownership is not for the faint of heart that is for sure. Do you have a bit of a cool down this week? I hope so….at least not temps that are super hot.
I turned my AC off- going into the low 50’s tonight so my windows will be open. I did work on the cornerstone block today, think tomorrow I will do it using HST’s- which I suspect i will like better. My flying geese came out great, I think I will prefer the look of HST’s instead. That is all.
I slept super poorly last night, so today has not been productive.
See you tomorrow- Monday- morning!!! And I teach study in a week. Gotta get that material all straightened out in the next 2 days so I am not rushed or worried about it
Phyl, sounds like you had a great trip. And yes a walker will provide much better stability for you. Depending upon the design you can even sit on a platform or use a tray to help carry items. Think its a great idea to use one if you find it helpful Ginny
