Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather I finished the Moda Blockheads top and I'm happy with how it came out. It ended up 74x74, the widest quilt I've ever made. I'm glad I stopped at this point instead of going larger. I have a few extra blocks left in these fabrics, so I'll put them together for a table topper. Then I'll see if I continue with new fabrics. I also made the two Summer Camp blocks, and all the sashings/cornerstones for the layout are done. I'm pretty happy with how the floral one is coming out, but I'm not completely happy with the tonal blocks. I like the brighter colors, but there are two of them where the colors are just a bit too dark to me. So I may end up remaking those two blocks with some of the brighter fabric I've already used in a block. Here are some pictures of what I've done. The blocks for Summer Camp are not in their final layout, I just put them up to show them in the sashings. Hope you all get to do some crafting too. Take care Here's a closeup of the tonal blocks. I like the four in the top row, but those two in the bottom row are a bit dark and I hoped this would be a "bright" quilt.

CJ- thanks for sharing the pictures of the blocks with us!!! I can see that the Moda block head quilt has quite a few blocks that have less than traditional layouts and were more challenging to make. Nice job and its a pretty quilt. I know you will use those “leftover” blocks for a pretty table runner… as you do not usually finish your quilt tops 74x74 is larger, but not overwhelming. At least you do not have to come up with backing fabric for it, unless you plan on quilting it. Think that with the summer camp quilt the sashing does just the trick and brightens it. As you have mentioned that you had hoped for a brighter quilt, I wonder what your plans are for the final border. That could make all the difference for this pretty quilt.
So, we are so dry that I had to break out the sprinkler for my garden, or the plants will die. While out there I did put the fence up for the deer, as they snuck into the garden 3 days ago and did a fair amount of damage. Good watering and a fence to keep them out should, I hope, provide me with a small crop of vegetables from it. Guess I will have to water almost daily as we have no rain in the forcast.
Gotta clean up the kitchen and then head to my machine. G

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and having nice weather. It's warm here - high 80s - and sunny. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to work on the cornerstones Hope the watering helps your garden and the deer stay away. Earlier this week I had a fawn in my yard, but no sign of it's mother. I've left it along and hopefully the mother came back to get it. I'm going to add a yellow inner border and a dark purple outer border on my Summer Camp color quilt. It's the same fabrics as in the cornerstones. I'm on the fence with this quilt now about what fabrics to use in the blocks. I had planned just to make one purple/yellow block and put it in the center - and I still might. I might also pick the colors that go best with the purple and use them in more blocks and take out the ones that seem to clash or look dull. This morning I finished using up the rest of the Moda Blockhead blocks that I've made so far and made a table topper/wall hanging that measures 39x39. Now I can put away those fabrics and pull the new ones to finish the rest of the blocks - there are 14 blocks left to make. I hope to work on the Laundry Basket quilt along blocks this weekend too. We finally get to use a fabric that doesn't blend - it's a dark orange color the blocks are sawtooth stars. She's using the 4 at a time flying geese method to make these, so I'm glad I've done that and like that method. Hope you all get to do some crafting too and have a great weekend!

CJ- that is great news that you will be able to use the 4 at at time flying geese method- you have mastered it and are comfortable with it. Bet you are happy that you can now put away the moda blockhead fabrics, I am looking forward to seeing which additional fabrics you pull to finish the rest of the quilt. I know you will select carefully the fabrics that you end up using to finish off the summer camp quilt. I know that the pictures on the internet are not color true, so for me to perhaps offer a suggestion might not be the best. Trust your gut- and you are making this quilt to please your eye. I am sure it will look great. Good! if you like having a fawn in your yard, I would be happy to send its NY cousins down to you for a visit. I am tired of them eating everything in sight- stuff that I do not want them to eat. I took a look and the deer have not attempted to get back into the garden, if they did so I would see the new fence bent or knocked over.
Well I had an eye opener. I feed the birds and got used to spending between $22 and $28 a 40 pound bag of seed. Went to tractor supply today and now its up to $36! I bought one bag of the regular seed and some less expensive seed to mix in. And will head to Sam’s in a day or so to stock up on seed at a better price.
Got a bit more done on the corner stone blocks which I will return to finish shortly. Hope everyone is getting some crafting time in! Ginny

CJ, I know that whatever choices you make in colors will be great. As Ginny said, what's important is that they please you and I've never seen any of your's that didn't look great. You definitely have a knack and a feel for colors. I still need to look up that make four at a time flying geese. It sounds very interesting.
Ginny, up until about 2010 we used to plant tomatoes and sometimes other veggies also in a spot to the side and toward the back of our house. We put a fence around it and sometimes the deer would still get in. I think they must have jumped over the fence. After all that we ended up planting only tomatoes and those were in pots so we were able to move them closer to the house if there was evidence of something eating them. We've kind of given up on growing veggies. This year I did get flowers to put in pots and window box like containers and have to water them every day because of lack of rain. I hope you get a lot of really nice veggies and keep the deer out
I started the blanket for the Christmas in July CAL and did the first three rows but it ended up being 61 inches wide so I pulled it all out and started over with a smaller hook. I had asked the designer what the multiples were so that I could change the size and she answered and said that this pattern isn't conducive to having multiples. Personally I think all blanket patterns have multiples and maybe she just doesn't know how to figure out what they are. I know I caan't look at a pattern and tell what the multiples are but as the designer she must know how many stitches you need. So anyway it's a reasonable width now and I now have 4 patterns actually in progress so need to get busy and get some done.
That sure is a lot of money for birdseed. Prices of everything is up and going up more and more.I think I have bird seed in my garage. Come on over and pick it up.

hi girls, I did post last night and probably did not hit send. I am now wearing a ankle brace,it is light weigh and not heavy At all.went to the foot doctor yesterday morning and he said I did not have arthritis in my ankle,it is in my foot and a injection would not work.
I will make an appointment with my nurse Pattie who is the one who decides if I need a injection in my ankle.not then I will go for the hip, also need to see my chiro.
yesterday I WENT OVER TO ANITA'S, she really helped the stripology and also helped me get the table runner together and ready to sew.well it took so long I DID NOT SEW.AFTER 4 hours it was time for me to just sit for awhile before calling DON.
I did not sew today.phyl

Good morning! Phyl, glad to hear that Anita was able to help out with the stripology ruler and setting the table runner so that it can be sewn. Its a relief for you that you can now proceed and get that table runner put together. Is the ankle brace comfortable? Hope that all your efforts and treatments keep you more comfortable. And I guess its good news that you do not have arthritis in your ankle. My friends husband has arthritis in his foot, and for him a pair of orthotics in his shoes has provided some relief.
Ruth, well…..got a feeling that if I drove out to you for the birdseed I would way outspend the value of the seed in gas. Thanks for the offer however! Ha ha ha. I did some research and Ukraine is a major supplier of sunflower seed. No comment. I did go outside this am to put the bird feeder back up, which I bring inside every night so that the raccoons do not get the seed. On my deck I have a lot of flowers (actually not that many but some that the deer will eat). Zinnias and sunflowers…green beans, potatoes, lemons, a small black berry bush and lettuce are on the deck. My fence is holding and it looked like the deer did not get in the garden on the ground. Gonna go out shortly and water what is fenced in. That is absurd that the Christmas in July CAL has no repeat/multiples. I agree with you that the designer just did not want to change the pattern or did not understand how to offer that information. I hope that your flowers are pretty- what flowers do you have??
CJ- did the fawn leave your yard? Its pretty normal for a fawn to hide in someones yard and wait for Mom to return later on.
Ok, gonna put this out there…this weather is making me depressed. Took a look at the forecast and I am in for a good 10 days of high temps (90’s or around that) and no rain. Had to make some adjustments to the cornerstone block sub units, will iron them and get them assembled a bit later on. Think this evening I am attending a free concert with a friend (the woman I travelled to Pennsylvania with). We saw this band last year (I think) and they are pretty good.

Same here Ginny. Tomorrow and Monday are 100 degree days. For the next 10 days it's to be in high 90's. I'm glad the deer didn't get to your plants and I hope they continue to be kept away from them. I've never seen a live raccoon here. I know there are some because I've seen a couple dead at the side of the road but in our "home away from home" we had some visit our deck which is probably how the ticks came to be on there. I hope you're heat doesn't last too long. I know how you dislike hot days.
Sounds like you're making progress on the quilt. Is this the one for your bil? I'm thinking that you said it is. Yes it would be very costly to drive almost 2000 miles to pick up birdseed which is probably not any good anymore anyway. I sure would love some cool days so that I could work on the garage getting it organized. In the meantime I'll just sit and vegetate since it's too hot to do anything I need to do. Have a good time at the concert.
Phyl, it's great that you have someone to go to to help with the stripeology. And yes, I have a terrible time hearing on the phone anyway but when the person I'm speaking too has an accent of some kind and broken English I have a really hard time figuring out what they're saying. I"m sure that companies in this country could find American citizens they could hire for phone help. I try to do eveything online for that reason. Some companies such as Amazon have online chats for help with product issues.

Well a day of disruptions- my brother in law (my sisters husband) is in the hospital (seems like an upper respiratory infection and he is already improving with antibiotics), but i got stuck texting my nephew and calling my sister. I did get a chance to put one star together, and while its nowhere near perfect, I am pleased with it and will continue later on getting the other 3 assembled.

Ruth, so sorry to hear that you are also in for heat/hot temps. One thing my Dh never accepted, I just physically feel awful during hot weather, no matter how hydrated I am, I get headaches and my stomach goes out of whack also. Its just no fun so to know that I am going to feel sick for a week to ten days is not my idea of fun. Were you able to straighten your garage out at all in preparation for the trip you just went on?

Ginny, I didn't realize that you became actually physically ill in the heat. I thought it was the usual discomfort of just feeling over heated and no energy. I'm glad your bil is improving already on the antibiotics. Is he a smoker or has a history of asthma or other resp problem? I'll put him on my prayer list. In fact I just stopped and prayed.
Heat doesn't make me physically ill it just makes me feel kind of wiped out and here where there's not much humidity it doesn't feel as bad as it does in humid areas.
The star block is very pretty and it looks like all it needs is trimming Ye My ds and ddil have a lot of things planted and they've tried different things over the years but deer and raccoons and who knows what other animals ate most of them. They've done a lot on their property so I don't know why they don't put up a fence around the area of the garden and now that I think about it I think that ddil did tell me they had a garden on the left side of the house but I didn't go over there so I don't know if it's fenced or not.
Actually, Ginny, I think the garage is more of a mess now because before we left on our trip we rummaged through everything out there deciding what we needed to take there. I'm sure glad I grabbed up a frying pan from out there to take with us. Yes the frying pans are another thing stashed out there. We were in the food store one day back when those green pans were being sold on tv etc....miracle pans according to the commercials. Well the store had a bunch of them in their clearance area so mr prep in case of need bought about 4 of them and they didn't really work for us and we already had good pans so stuck them out there. I loved using them while we were away and found out that the reason they didn't work well for us here is because you aren't supposed to spray them with the spray oils. There worked great for me there and I actually need to get one from the garage to use here because they're a nice size. Mr pack rat also has two pressure cookers out there that he bought at a garage sale. we've never even tried them because the gaskets were bad even back them and they didn't having the little pressure thingys but he's still saving them. Oh and we also searched the garage for the imfamous missing toaster which is still missing.
Ok I'll quit blabbing. See you all tomorrow

Hello Everyone - Hope you have all been enjoying your weekend and staying cool. It's been hot here too, with a few storms. Ginny - Your block is so cute. These will be the cornerstones you were talking about? I haven't seen the fawn for several days, so I'm hoping the mother came and got it. Phyl - I'm glad you were able to get some help with the Stripology. Ruth - Hope you can get some crocheting done even with the heat. Yesterday I finished using up the fabric and blocks leftover from the large Moda quilt. I made a cute table topper (I'll try to share a picture in a few days) and another larger piece with the rest of the blocks I hadn't used. And I had a few orphan blocks to make from leftover HSTs. Today I finished making the star blocks for the Laundry Basket quilt along, so I'm caught up with those. There are only 2 weeks left of this quilt along. I also re-looked at the Summer Camp tonal color blocks and I'm going to remake two of them and see what I think. I had really high hopes for this quilt, but I'm not happy with how some of these fabrics are going together. I do have enough fabric left in the fat quarters to remake some blocks, so I'll see what I decide. Take care everyone

Ruth, what is the name of the green non stick pans? My DS is always looking for a good nonstick pan to make his eggs on. I wonder if I can get those pans in my area. You can order replacement parts for pressure cookers- gaskets, weights etc… I am sure that amazon would carry those parts, if not try Lehmans in Ohio- who provide a lot of supplies to the Amish. Bet they have the parts, or even a good hardware store. We have a really good hardware store a few miles away that carries a lot of canning supplies and I have bought pressure cooker gaskets there. Well at least you got some of the stuff out of the garage- which now it sounds like needs to be reorganized. Well I realized that I can now plant sunflowers- although its too late in the season for the most part here. I can grow them in the fence, which the deer would have to jump over and ruin. Yes, the heat makes me feel sick. I went out for a quick errand this afternoon, and the minute I got out the headache kicked in, and I needed the inhaler. I got home and once I settled back inside felt much better. Its not dehydration as I know I have had 48 oz of water today. Its just me, and I do not fare well in temperatures over 80 and am better off staying inside. My kids are coming over for dinner tomorrow afternoon, so it will be a busy day. I did get to the machine this evening…and while its not perfect I am reasonably pleased with the final result of the panel. Now gotta figure out how to quilt the darned thing. Tuesday I will work on programming my machine to make the label. And tomorrow is Monday. I heard that tomorrow I am supposed to get some much needed rain. I hope that they are right and we get enough so that I do not have to water for a few days. Hope everyone had a nice Sunday.
