CJ, I forgot to mention the table mat. It's really beautiful so I, too, hope you will quilt it and use it. It's so pretty it needs to be out where you can see your great work.
Ginny, yes, recipes seem to be the worst at having way to much "stuff" before you get to the actual recipe.I think the pattern said you need 3 skeins of Lion Brand thick and quick. I have a lot of those because a few years back they had a sale and were selling them for $1 each. I made a blanket for my grandson with some of it. That blanket is now living in Taiwan and maybe has been thrown away...long story.
Today is quite hot again. 91 so far at noon.
Phyl, I'm just guessing that the Roni you mentioned died from covid. I'm sorry for your loss. I doubt that you would contact covid in a funeral setting but I guess if her family members were exposed there is a small possibility of contacting the virus but at this point I agree with Ginny that you wouldn't have enough viral load to infect your friend and her husband.I know who you mean and he's done so well with his dialysis I would hate to have him contact any illness.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and staying cool. It's in the 90s here and sunny - so very hot! Phyl - It's good of you to avoid people in case you were exposed to covid. There's just no telling if/when we could catch it. Hope you can get things ready for your sewing area. Ginny - I'm glad you made it to the airport alright and also got some things done around the house and yard. Ruth - Hope you can make that basket, it was cute. On my list of quilt tops I've made (which includes the quilts I've finished quilting and binding) there are well over a 100, and I'm getting closer to 200. A lot of them are small. I had used those heat erasable pens on the back of some of the fabric to make the HSTs, but not really in the area where the black marks showed up. There were no marks on it before I pieced it and pressed. It was like something in the printing on the fabric (white on white) turned dark around the threads. I don't know, never happened to me before but I won't use that fabric again. I went out this morning to run some errands and went in JoAnns to get some thread, rotary blades, and some fabric. After I came home I sprayed some Round-Up in the cracks in my driveway where the weeds come up. I've had to do this several times this summer. It kills the weeds, but new ones come up With the hot sunny day I'm hoping it starts killing them. The 3 new blocks came out for the quilt alongs today. Pat Sloan's and Laundry Basket don't look too bad, the Moda one as always has a million small pieces LOL. I'm happy I've decided just to make the 9.5 inch blocks for the rest of the quilt along. I hope to work on some of the blocks tomorrow. Hope you all get to do some crafting too. Take care

hi, Ruth, RONI died from cancer she fought it maybe 3-4 years, even though they had 2 kids, the family is large. RONI comes from a family of 8 kids, not sure how many Gary came from.
she was at the church's craft show in November seem to be cheerful, her dd said after Christmas is when she started going downhill.
other people were EMT'S, first responders, she was woman of the year, they were big in the Mardi Grau Festive the community has every year for catholic school, several church members were there.think they knew almost everybody in our town ship and the city.
when we came out to go eat in the basement, the rescue fire truck was there and the ambulance, someone fainted. because of her age they were not sure if SOPHIE just fainted so called 911.
DELONA AND I know SOPHIE FROM THE Y AND SHE IS OLD.
I was going to get so much done today and did nothing. PHYL

Phyl, my condolences on the loss of Roni- sounds as though she was a much loved and very active person. I am sure she will be missed.
CJ- you have quite a collection of quilts!!! Wow. Do not blame you for not using that white fabric again, unless you can find a way to work around the dark marks. I also use the heat erasable pens and have no problem with them leaving black marks. No wonder that you would need more thread and rotary blades with as much quilting as you do! (Gosh those tiny blades are expensive aren’t they?). Glad you got that errand done, and I hope that you do not have to use round up again this season. Its a pain, I know.
Ruth- thanks for the heads up on the basket and the yarn requirement. I will have to check and see how much yarn I have, I would like to make a basket but do not want to buy more yarn to do that. I am better off finding a pattern that I do now need to pick up more yarn for. That is a shame that one of your afghan masterpieces is in Taiwan. But DGS is back here and that is more important.
Got a walk in this am, and did do some weeding early on before I came inside. I did play with fabric a bit, worked on programming my machine to make a label for my DBIL for the quilt panel and continued to try to figure out how I wlll quilt this piece. Think I am finally figuring it out- its a bit overwhelming as the last thing I want to do is to ruin the quilt when I top stitch it.

Oh I understand now Phyl. I thought you were saying tht Roni died because of covid and you were concerned that those attending her funeral may have contacted it from her before she passed. I did hear on tv the other day that cases are rising again in some places. Anywhere I've been in the last few months it seemed as though covid was a thing of the past but newscasters were trying to use it to gain attention. No one here sure is doing anything anymore to avoid covid. I'm just doing my usual staying at home because I love doing that not because of being afraid of illness.
Ginny, I checked the pattern again and it says 4 skeins of Lion Brand thick and quick. It's a pretty basket but if you have to go out and buy more yarn it may not be something you would want to make. I'd send you some but I don't know what colorways you have so don't know if I have any that would work well with yours.
I have the dino almost done and just have to make his spikes then sew those and the 4 feet on and embroider some eyes which is just a straight line on each side of the head to make him look like he's sleeping. I don't really like how he looks. To me he looks more like a crocodile. I hope dgs will like him
Yes I can always make another blanket but could never replace my beloved grandson. He's very special to me since he's my ds' first child and I got to spend his first year with him before he and his mom were able to go be with my ds who was in the Army in Germany

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and staying cool. It's hot here again today. Phyl - I'm sorry for your loss. Hope you can get some things done today. Ginny - Good luck with making the label, let us know how it goes. The new sewing machine I bought last year (and haven't even taken it out of the box ) has monogramming, so I guess I could make labels using that. I lucked out and had a 40% off coupon for the rotary blades, so it wasn't too bad for a pack of 5. Ruth - I'm glad you've almost finished the dinosaur, I bet it's cute and I hope your DGS will like him. I admire you for making things for family. We have to hope they appreciate them and use them. I think that's some of the reason I don't like to make quilts for others - you put so much work and love into a quilt and then to think the person doesn't even care I've been hearing about more covid cases in my area too and also that some places are putting mask requirements back into place. It's strange going in the stores where around here - about half the people are wearing masks and the other half aren't. I like clear rules about things, so that bugs me I haven't felt like working on any quilting the last few days. If I wasn't already at the end of these few quilt alongs I think I'd just quit. But I'll push myself to finish them. I did pick out the fabrics to use for the Summer Camp and Moda blocks, so hopefully I can get the fabric cut soon. Getting the fabric ready takes longer than actually sewing the block together! Hope you all get to do some crafting and have a good day!

CJ, I'm sorry your having a time where you are tired of the making of these quilts. It happens to alll of us at times where we just want to put things on the back burner as "they" say and forget about them. But as people that love their crafting we all get back to it and get things done. Sometimes you just have to find a good book to read and take some time out. I know what you're saying about those people we gift our completed projects to. They just don't understand what all goes into making that item...our time, money but mostly love either for the item, the recipient or both. It's hot here too. I wonder what winter is going to be like.
Here I haven't seen but maybe one person in any of the stores I've been to using a mask. People are tired of the whole covid thing and want to forget that it actually ever existed. I heard on the news that some areas are getting back to mask mandates. This will make the companies that make masks happy. They, right now, are practically giving masks away. I saw one sale where you got 90% off masks. Dh and I have a lot of masks but we don't use them either.
For this dino I used a different pattern than the one my dgs and his mom picked out and I think I will have to just make the one they picked. I don't like how this one looks at all. Dgs is only 4 years old and will probably play with the dino for a day then set it aside so I don't really need to make it perfect. He does, though, have certain things including things I've made in the past for his older brother, that he takes to bed with him every night. I think for me though I have to make something I'm happy with and this dino is not it.

CJ- yes we all have days in which we are battle weary- you take on a lot of different quilts and with the obligation (of sorts) to make more blocks each week well it does not give you much time to absorb what you are doing. Also having some uncertainty regarding the fabrics you will finish these two quilts in has to be a burden. (I have avoided quilting today because I am a bit overwhelmed with how I think I will finish the panel quilt, so I understand).I am glad you picked out the fabrics you will use, and hope they work out great. Regarding masks- if you feel better wearing one, then do so. Its important to remember that only an N95 (KN95) is going to accomplish any good in prevention, and actually I rather like the way it is now, being free to wear a mask if you feel the need to or free not to. Do what you feel is best for you in this instance. Enough other people are wearing masks (my guess for my area is %20) that it if someone wanted to wear one it would not look strange.
And now the president has covid- someone who has been vaccinated and boosted and still came down with it. The important thing is to know that there are effective therapies available now, and its a treatable illness now.
Ruth, hope that you like the new Dino pattern. You also have to be pleased with the final product and I know you take great pride in your crochet items. Yes, people do not understand the amount of work that a hand made item takes, and the love that goes into it. And I do remember how special DGS#1 is to you. Didn’t you make another afghan for him when you were visiting family a month ago?
I am uninspired - this weather is really bugging me. I did think about working on the quilt and will do so tomorrow. Honestly I am afraid I will ruin it when I quilt it.it would be far easier to send it to Missour to have it quilted. WIth the hot weather this weekend, I figure I will get to work on it a bit.

Ginny, I'm sorry this hot weather is lingering and causing you so much discomfort. It would be great to have weather that was middle ground where we could all be comfortable and be able to do the things we want to do. Today I'm working on the snake that the dgs wanted along with the dino and a shark. It's certainly much easier. I'm sure it was the yarn I was using and I will try it again with a different yarn before I resort to using the actual pattern his mom found for him. I have a couple other little stuffies I want to make and send also. Yes I did make another blanket for the dgs that had to abandon the first one I made for him. He even said that he's never going to let this one get away from him. I think this one is much nicer also. I can understand how you feel about possibly ruining the quilt by trying to do it yourself. I'd like to think that it will turn out perfect but if you have reservations who am I to say that nothing bad will happen with it. I've many times had that feeling about my crochet items. ONe thing though is that your bil is going to love it regardless and probably won't even notice if you make a little mistake which you probably won't do. YOu're good at this.Think positive.
Yes the pres has covid and I do wonder how many boosters he's had. And it could be an error in testing. They didn't mention that he had any symptoms...at least that I know of. I kinda left the room after the first few minutes of news. And, as you said, Ginny, there are very effective treatments now and mostly the variants of covid people are contacting now are like getting the flu. People still die of flu and some will still die of covid but it's not going to be a considerable number. I agree completely that if a person feels they need a mask then by all means they should use one. The people of Taiwan have been using masks ever since SARS years ago.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I understand how you feel about the weather. I think the heat is partly why I've been so irritable and tired of quilting. I also understand how you feel about messing up a quilt when you quilt it. That's why I have over 50 quilt tops waiting around But seriously, I like to straight line machine quilt, but I feel like it only works on quilts that have square blocks that you can quilt through the middle or sides of. I look at some of my larger quilts with a different design and I think that straight line quilting would ruin them. I hope you can figure something out for your panel quilt. Ruth - Hope you have made some progress on the animal projects. It's sweet that your DGS takes some of his crochet pieces from you to bed with him Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. It's very hot here again, in the 90s and sunny. I wait until late in the day to go out and get the mail, otherwise I stay in with the windows covered. I finished making my Moda block and the two Summer Camp blocks. That Moda block had several complicated pieces and the Summer Camp one each had 24 snowballed pieces! I didn't think I'd ever finish making those. I hope to work on the Laundry Basket blocks this weekend, and also the purple Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks. Here's a few pictures to share. The layout for the Summer Camp tonal quilt is not final, I may move a few of the blocks around, but I'm going to keep the colors balanced. I'm happier now with it that I limited the colors - so I'll be making one more green and one more pink block to finish. Then I'll be adding a yellow inner border and a dark purple outer border. I'll try to layout the floral Summer Camp soon and take a picture of it. Hope you all have a great weekend!

CJ- the quilts look great- and I think that the dark purple outer border and yellow inner border will tie the quilt together cause it follows the fabric use you have already established. I hope you are pleased with how it looks. I do know you will be happy to have it finished! And I can imagine that the moda block with all the snowballed corners must have driven you nuts. But I know it looks great.
Ruth, so sweet of DGS to comment on the afghan and and that he is not going to let this one get away from him. Obviously he loves his grandma as much as she loves him- and you did support him throughout his whole ordeal while in Taiwan. That is quite a menagerie you were working on- a Dino, a shark and a snake. Hope that all projects go well for you and are not that challenging to make
Another crazy day. While at work, I heard from DD #2 that her AC was not working, and could she borrow a window unit from me and spend a few hours here while hers is repaired. (She was lucky to get it repaired today!). So the answer to both was yes, and the grandkids were here today- good to see them. I got no quilting done but was given the chance to look at it again.so…..the cornerstone blocks I will stitch around each star, and then straight line stitching on the border where the colors change. For the center, I will use silver thread to random stipple the clouds, and random stipple (using variegated thread) the flag and the eagle. Its a much more complicated design than I usually do, which is why I am a wreck over it! Ha ha ha
THis weekend is supposed to have peak heat….high 90’s, good time to stay inside and quilt. G

CJ, the blocks look great. I know that your finished project on each is going to be a beautiful quilt top. Ginny, good thing your dd has you. It can be very uncomfortable in this heat without a/c. Maybe even dangerous. Here the official temp right now is 95 but my thermometer says 107 and I just stepped outside on my wood deck to pick up a package that was deliver and the heat of the wood actually burned my feet so I really thing it's closer to 107 right here. Starting Tues we in for a cool down. Temps only in 80's I'd be a basket case if I had to decide on how to do quilting on a beautiful quilt like you ladies make. I know for sure I'd ruin them. I'm workiong on the snake and have 25 inches done. He's supposed to be 36 inches total according to the pattern but since dgs is only 4 I think that once I do the decreasing rows he's going to be long enough for a 4 year old.

Phyl, sounds like you have a very busy day ahead for you! Hope that you have a great time at Don’s reunion- although sometimes for the spouse reunions are a bit boring. What a blessing that you are both able to attend! Safe travels. The visit to Mineonite mercantile sounds interesting- bet there are fabric outlets nearby too! Enjoy your visit with Jim and Theresa an it is good to hear that he is improving. I heard last night on the news that the south is also experiencing a rise in covid counts. I think its a good idea to take good precautions if you deem them necessary but also to get out and enjoy life. Honestly, I would think that the reunion is more of a risk than visiting a store, but I am sure Don wants to attend.
Ruth- DD’s AC is fixed….and they still have my spare AC. (A small unit that will only cool one room)) Her house it tough to cool/heat and would become uncomfortable very quickly without AC. Sounds like its awfully hot in your area! I would be one miserable puppy in 95 degree heat without AC. I know it does not bother you much, but hope your DH does have the airconditioner on. Please remember to stay hydrated. Temps in the 80’s sound good, at least more reasonable. What is the weather like in Indiana? Sounds very reasonable for you to shorten the snake for a 4 year old. He will love the snake and never know that his snake is a little bit shorter. What color is the snake?
Its cool here right now…..going to head out for a walk and then close up the house for when the heat builds. I do have a few windows open while its still a little bit cooler.

Good morning all. Well it's still morning here but not where the rest of you are.
Ginny, the snake is done except for the two lines I need to put on with embroidery thread for eyes. He's made up of sections of 9 different colorsl I found out something interesting while making him. I wanted to make him with Red Heart with love so picked the colors I wanted to use. Some I've had a long time and some I bought more recently. Well it seems as though, although most companies are cutting down on the amount of yarn in a skein, that this yarn on the old skeins that were sold while RH was still RH were only 307 yards and the newer ones since Yarnspirations took over are 374 yards. Today I'll work on the shark. I got out more yarn for the Christmas blanket CAL. Most people are on part 4 and I'm only on part 1. I worked on it the other night. I found that I have plenty of yarn for that.
It's only 75 degrees here right now!! I haven't checked the temp in Indiana but my ds said the other day that he doesn't remember it being this hot since he's lived there.
Now that it's cooler I'm going to rummage through my yarn today and get some homemade kits made up. See you all later
