Hello Everyone - Hope you've had a good day and good weather. It was warmer and humid here, but not too bad. Ruth - I'm glad you found some time to work on the blanket and hope you can get your yarn organized sometime. Ginny - Hope your Internet problems go away. Phyl - I hope the injection helps, sorry to hear it hurt. Sounds like you are making progress on your clearing. Sue - Hope you are doing well. I finished piecing one of my Rainbow Scrap challenge quilt tops this morning - it's the one with the half log cabin blocks. Those blocks gave me the worst problems this year, even though it's such an easy block I'm fairly satisfied with the quilt top and just glad to be done with it. I also started making the pinwheel blocks I'll need for the Moda Blockheads quilt. I have to make 25 of them and already had one made, so I cut all the fabrics for 24 more of them and made all the half square triangles this morning. Since I'm using 4 different colors in them I had to make 24 half square triangles of each color - so 96 in total! After I finished all of these and was pressing them open I realized that I had sewed the fabric on wrong for 24 of them. I could have cried! There was no way to save them for this quilt, so I remade them. I'll use the ones I made for a small block or something. I haven't trimmed them yet and I think I might try piecing them without trimming and then just trim the pinwheel at the end. That would sure save some time. I'd just like to get all the sashing and cornerstone pieces for this quilt done before the quilt along ends in 6 weeks. Hope you all get to do some crafting and have a great weekend!

CJ,yes I thought the log cabin blocks would be the easiest. I'm sure you did a good job
Phyl, sorry the procedure itself was painful but it's good to hear that you have no pain now
Ginny, Sorry about the internet problems
I didn't get the body of the blanket done last night after all but it's almost done now. Then all the end weaving. If all goes right I should have it done over the weekend/ completely doe that is.I'll finish these last two sections tonight. ONe section is quite small.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and enjoying your weekend. We have some warmer weather here today, and sunny. Ruth - I'm glad to hear your blanket is almost done. What color yarn did you use for this? I'm sure it will be beautiful You'd think those half log cabin blocks would be easy but I mess them up each month Ginny - Hope the Internet issues get better soon. Phyl - Hope you are getting some things done this weekend. Sue - Hope your weather is nice. I finished my pinwheel blocks this morning and I got the strips of fabric cut to make the sashing. I'm hoping I can get that pieced this afternoon. I was able to put the pinwheel blocks together first and then trim instead of trimming each HST so that really saved time. I'll be so happy to get these done so I can start assembling this second Moda Blockheads quilt. Once I get this done I'll go back to work on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks. When I was at the store this week they had some pumpkin spice loaf cake. I bought it and enjoyed it, I love all the pumpkin things that start coming out this time of year Here are pictures of the Half Log Cabin top and the pinwheels. I do like that I could use all those different fabric scraps in the Half Log Cabin quilt top. Hope you all get to do some crafting today. Take care!

Phyl, sure glad to hear that you have no discomfort from the shot, now that it is over with. Some health professionals are so good at giving shots, others not so good. Were you able to rest well last night?
CJ - you have me laughing here. The lower quilt is not weird or strange, it is sort of a resemblance of a crazy quilt! I love the bright colors and varied colors too. Looks wonderful, as does the moda blockheads block. 96 HST’s is a lot of triangles to cut. Were you able to get them all cut out today? And that is heartbreaking that you had to recut some of them, such a lot of work. I think that would work for you to make the pinwheels first and then trim.
Ruth - first of all, you sell yourself short by saying that you stink at fabric selection. Try going into a fabric store and finding a fabric you like to make a quilt from and then asking for help. Most of the time the employees there are very willing to help once they know where to start from (as in what your initial taste is. Then is really is pretty easy to find other fabrics that coordinate. CJ’s moda blockhead block is a perfect example.but the key is finding that initial fabric that you love to “pull” colors from. Also on the selvage of some fabrics the manufacturer puts color swatches of the different colors used in the print, and you can use that to match fabrics to. (Think CJ has mentioned this tip in the past). Really, its easy. I am sorry that after all this time your Norfolk Island Pine has died. I used to kill them with alarming frequency….but have had the same one now for about 15 years. I found that it likes being inside with my other houseplants in the winter, in the family room. That room is a bit cooler and also the presence of the other plants keeps the humidity higher. Were your efforts to care for your other houseplants successful? I used to really care for my houseplants many years ago and have become very lazy. I like low maintenance plants now. Did you complete the body of the blanket??
Internet issues are over and done with. We travelled last week, our annual trip to North Carolina. The house had somewhat sketchy internet, sometimes it was great and other times it was awful. Last night was one of those nights that was awful. I did get to work on the panel quilt a bit, but the most time was today in the car on the way home. (DS did the driving). My guess is I am about half way, or slightly over halfway done. I hope to finish it within the next day or so. With my kids and their families there, It meant a lot of dishes, cooking (although I did not do all the work). We did go out (take out) twice….and it was a decent week. It was fun to have all the grandkids together, and see them interact. Unfortunately the jellyfish were out and 2 grandkids were stung.
I did get to a quilt shop there and bought some felted appliqué kits. Nope, did not need another project to make….but it does make some easy gifts. That is why I decided to purchase the kits.
Good to be home….and while it was nice to get away, its a long drive and I am much happier being home.
We left really early in the am (3 am), and I have been up since 1:30….might not be back tonight. Have a good one Ginny

I'm a little late to the party today I guess
Ginny, I'm glad you arrived home safely and hope you get rested up tonight. I hope you had a good time while there. As you know,I'm with you on that "I'd rather stay home" but being with family is important so we do it anyway. I hope you can finish the quilt now that you're home.
CJ it's great that you're getting so many beautiful quilt tops done. What a great feeling of accomplishment when we see all of our completed projects.
I did finish the body of the blanket and got all the ends woven in. I'll start the border tomorrow and could possibly finish it tomorrow but we'll see how it goes. This evening I started a different little purse for the two great grandgirls. I haven't gotten far on that yet. I thought it would go faster but it's made in pieces instead of in the round like I thought it would be then there are the nose, ears, eyes to make and the mouth to embroider on. Oh and the strap. Then a zipper to sew in.I maybe should just scrap this one and go back to the easier one. I already have one of those made. Yes I think that's what I'll do.Monday it will be back to the diagonal basket weave blanket and I don't really know how long that one will take me.

Good Morning all!
Ruth, that is good news to learn that you completed the body of the blanket and got the worst of it over with- weaving in all the loose ends. (Its sort of like putting on the binding on a quilt, which IMO is the worst part of making an quilt.). What kind of yarn are you using for these little purses? In my mind, I am thinking that a cotton yarn would work better for that application. Sounds like an animal face will be added to the purses? I can imagine a dog, bear, or cat would be cute. You have mentioned that this basket weave blanket will be taking a long time to complete. Any idea how far into this project you are?
For as sleep deprived as I was yesterday, you would think I fell asleep easily. It was a struggle to fall asleep, but once I did I slept well enough. It was 63 when I woke up and I did have my bedroom windows open overnight I still have some open in the house, its nice to be able to air the house out a bit before the AC comes on. Got another hot day on tap here.
Last night I made good progress on the panel quilt and have 3/4 of it done. Then gotta put on the label and tie in the loose ends and clip them
BBL to see who checks in Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you had a nice vacation and hope you enjoyed the time away. Hope you are able to get some more work done on the panel today. I quit watching Chesapeake Shores when Jesse Metcalfe left the show. Ruth - Hope you are able to work on the border of your blanket and the purse too. It's not as warm here today and cloudy, and we're supposed to have some rain today and tomorrow. When I went outside to get my mail yesterday afternoon I saw a doe and her two fawns laying in my side yard in the shade. I've had so many fawns and deer in the yard this year. I guess it's a safe place for them since it's fenced in and there aren't cars moving around much. I finished piecing one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts - this is the one with the blocks that have small strip pieces of 4.5 inches long and then about 2 inches wide, but width varies. I dreaded making these blocks each month, but I'm happy to have saved all this fabric and I'm pretty happy with the quilt top. I counted the strips and there are 796 pieces of fabric in this quilt! It's a weird shape and I realized I probably should have pieced it differently, but it's done I also starting sewing together the sashing and cornerstones for my second Moda Blockheads quilt and I'm happy with how that is looking. I'll move the blocks around to different positions once I the last 6 blocks are made. Take care and have a great day

Ha ha ha! Oh I get it…..it seemed absurd that Jesse Metcalf left the show and the guy it looks like Abby ends up with….well I am not a fan. But I will watch, its something new and this is the final season of that program.

CJ- I have Chesapeake shores on in the background….just saying. I figure I will stick it out to see the show end. Gee, that rainbow scrap challenge sure is colorful! Bet it was fun to make, seeing how the pattern and changes in colors emerge. I hope that quilt makes you smile. I really like how the moda blockhead quilt is turning out. Its got a great mix of neutrals and bright colors and I think it shows off the different fabrics well.
My body aches….I had to clear up the back yard, Ds did help, but it was a LOT of work.
Looking forward to the rain - much needed - rain tomorrow.
And tomorrow is Monday. Hope everyone sleeps well, see you in the morning! Ginny

HI, today we went on the parade of homes tour, 7 houses. boy are some of those house huge, hate to see the price and taxes ,the people are paying. the last 3 would be more to our taste if we were buying., alas we will stay in our 3 bedroom ranch house we bought in 70 and it is paid for.
told Don the Lord led us to this house and we will stay till he says it is time to go. now if that means till we die or other plans who knows.
today we bought a new mattress for my bed, spent some bucks.
CJ, I LIKE the rainbow cut,not sure if I would have the patience to cut out and sew that many strips togeter.
today it was walking up long driveways and going up and downstairs in some of these home.my ankle did pretty good. phyl

well I'm late again. Idid get the blanket done.I might work on the basketweave one yet tonight but I'm not sure.
Phyl, I'm glad that despite all that walking and climbing your ankle doesn't hurt
Cj, I can't imagine, either, making all those strips. I like them both a lot but the bottom quilt is outstanding.
Ginny,I'm sorry that you had such a problem getting to sleep. I hope you can get rested well tonight.
See you all in the new week
