Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Good morning
Phyl- sounds like quite a day visiting all those homes! Seven houses, up and down driveways and stairs. Bet most, if not all are “open concept”, which is very pretty but a bit noisy with active kids. Like you, I would not want to pay the taxes, or to heat/air condition those large homes. Always a blessing to be content with what you have!! A ranch is a great style home especially as we “mature”. When does your new mattress get delivered? Hope its great and is very comfortable for you.
Ruth, yay, yay, yay….you got the blanket done! Did you end up working on the blanket weave last night?
I worked a lot yesterday cleaning up the back yard. Thought I would have trouble sleeping from aches, but I did fine and feel pretty well this am. Very thankful for that. I did get a tiny bit more done on the panel quilt. Two more evenings and I should be able to finish it. I really want this in the mail to my DBIL who does not expect it.
I am praying that we get a measurable amount of rain today. We need it badly.
BBL- have a wonderful morning. Ginny

Ginny, first good afternoon to you and I'm glad you got some sleep. Working in the yard is hard work.Feel free to stop over any time. My yard can use a lot of work. I hope you get the rain you need I did end up working on the basketweave last night and found mistakes I had made when I worked on it before so out it came. Now I'm back to maybe row 5. I had a hard time remembering how to do this pattern too. Today is my youngest grandaughter's birthday and she is turning 11. My grandchildren are all growing up way too fast. 10 of the 14 are now adults. Now, this morning, the yarn company emailed me(I had done one of those online comment things. Not that I expected them to do anything but I wanted them to know the yarn was not as it should be) and said they found that they had made a bad batch of the yarn I got that was strange. They offered to send me replacements. So much for MM saying they didn't think there was much wrong with that yarn.

Hey Ruth, well that is honest of the yarn company (who I assume was not MM) to admit that they had a problem with one batch of the yarn. I assume that you will accept the replacement yarn- what yarn company is it? its so nice to see a company who stands by their product. And its encouraging to find a company who stands by their product. What a bummer that you had to rip out some rows of the basket weave afghan. I am challenged going back and forth from one project to another and would forget a pattern also. Happy birthday to your DGD! Will you FaceTime with her at some point today?
More yard work this afternoon but I am done for now. I worked training this am, getting a trainee ready for her road test tomorrow. I hope she passes-she is capable and has the skills she needs as long as motor vehicle is fair and reasonable (which is not always the case).
Think I am going to take out the garbage and get back to work on the quilt. Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you're making progress on the panel quilt, hope you can get it finished soon. I'm sure it feels good to get that yard work done too Ruth - Sorry you're having to re-work that blanket. It's amazing how quickly children grow-up. I have nieces and nephews in their 50s and even the youngest of the "great" ones are in high school! Phyl - Hope you enjoyed seeing all those pretty houses. I used to like to go to open house things like that. Sue - Hope you are doing well. It was cloudy here today but not too warm, looks like we might have some rain later on. The fawns were out in the yard again when I went out this afternoon for the mail, but no mother doe this time. Guess she leaves them there for safety. I finished piecing my Keyhole quilt with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks this morning and put a border on it using "cloud" fabric. I like this top because it's so fun to see the fabrics I used in other quilts over the years, all together in one quilt. I just have one more top to put together and hope I can get it done tomorrow. Then all the Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts for this year are done. Take care everyone

Well Ginny, I sure hope your student passes. School bus drivers are very much needed and I'm sure that if you trained her she will be a good and safe driver.I don't know if my grandchildren even know about Facetime. I actually don't know it myself. Even the youngest ones in that family are now allowed to do email and other things on computers...well the 4 year old doesn't I don't think. It used to be that ds and ddil didn't even allow their children to do email until they were much older. The yarn company involved is Premier. The yarn I had was Premier Basix. Yes I'm happy that this company stands behind their products. I like most of their yarn but I especially like their Puzzle yarn. All of it is named after games such as Scrabble, hangman, etc. They have new colors out now and there is one I really want to get.I really don't need any more yarn but this color is so pretty and I love the yarn itself.
CJ, that Keyhole quilt is beautiful. I love the colors.

Ruth, I will have to check out who sells Premier yarn, its just so very nice to see a company that stands by its product and is also honest about manufacturing difficulties. I do not know why but i thought you and the grandkids video chatted when you were in Indiana. (Do you miss being in Indiana? I am sure you miss your son and his family). What color is it that you really want to get in Basix? Got any specific plans for it?
CJ- love the keyhole quilt and the concept of using fabrics leftover from other quilts. think that is the concept of a scrappy quilt, to use up what you have left over. I can recognize a few of the fabrics also- and think I see a lighthouse fabric snuck in there. And the cloud fabric you have used before…the quilt looks great.
Got only a few more inches of binding to attach, then the label and trimming threads. I emailed the serviceman last night and will be picking up my machine on Friday afternoon.
My trainee should pass- unless she gets the license examiner that some trainees had last week. (A different trainer worked with them). This particular license examiner seems to be unreasonably difficult to please - fails a driver without telling them why! That makes no sense. My school district is known for training drivers well and not sending improperly trained drivers for a road test. I hope my trainee passes…if she gets one of the normal examiners she should be fine.
Got someone coming this am to do some work in my backyard (it needs help). So I guess I will get in the shower and get ready for the day. Ginny

Good afternoon again everyone.
Yes the quilt definitely shows how a person can take leftover fabrics and turn them in to a beautiful quilt. It's like a scrappy quilt made so that it looks, I guess you could call it, more harmonious. And looking at the quilt will be a reminder of the other quilts you made with those fabrics
Ginny, yes there are chronically grumpy people everywhere who do not give others a chance to succeed. I hope your trainee gets someone who is fair and honest.
Some premier yarn is available at Walmart but I've never seen the Basix there. It's sold online by Mary Maxim, Herrschnerrs, and Joann's and probably more places I don't remember at this time. The Basix is just what they say, a more of a value yarn but it's softer than RHSS and some other lower price yarns. The color that I was sent that was the off texture was white. I wanted a lot of it to go with all the yarns that I have only a couple or a few skeins of so that I can actually make something with them.
I worked on the diagonal basketweave last evening. I still haven't much of it done because of mistakes I come to in previous rows. It will get done at some point.

Hello Everyone - Hope you've all had a good day Ruth - You know you need to buy that pretty yarn Hope you can make some progress on the diagonal basketweave quilt. Ginny - I'm glad you have someone coming to do some yardwork, hope you are happy with what is done. I hope your machine doesn't take too long to be serviced. Did you finish the panel quilt? Phyl - Congratulations on your upcoming 60th wedding anniversary and also on getting your cutting table cleared off That's nice to have a long table to cut on. Sue - I hope you are well and have been able to do some crafting. Thanks for the comments on the Keyhole quilt. I really like making those blocks, they are so quick and easy. I want to make one using a jelly roll sometime. I saw someone post today where she made blocks like these but they were square with only one small square in the center. Those look like they'd be quick to make too. I finished the other Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt top this morning and I'm happy to be done with them for the year. I'll try to post a picture soon. If I do this challenge next year I think I'd just focus on making one quilt top using one, or maybe two, quilt block patterns. It was getting to be too much making 4 or 5 tops each year, but at least I've finished using up all my odd shaped scraps and all the rest of the scraps are in standard sizes now. And I still have a lot of fat quarters to use. I started working on a table runner project that I had put aside. It was a pattern from a kit I bought that had the fabric and patterns for a quilt and a table runner. The table runner uses the leftover half square triangles from the quilt, so I already had all of those made and just need to piece them into blocks. Hopefully this will be quick project to finish. Take care everyone

Good morning, As I lay in bed last night, I realized I had not stopped in since the morning..sorry about that, but here I am again to say hello.
CJ-glad you finished the other rainbow scrap challenge for this year. We would love to see a picture of it if you do feel like posting that. I know its another step and can be a bit of a pain but thankfully you treat us to pictures regularly. Do you have plans for all those fat quarters? The table runner sounds like a fun project. What a wonderful idea to have a kit that uses leftover fabric from another project. I hope its a fun project for you and turns out great
Phyl- yay!! You can sew! So glad you have been able to get just that one area cleared up. Think we would all agree, no way would we allow anyone else to “help” straighten up a crafting area, unless it was to move something heavy. Yes, congratulations on your upcoming anniversary. What a blessing that you and Don have been given so many years together. Do you think you will keep him? Ha ha ha. Hope that you can use the somewhat off texture off white, in the right project I am sure you will be able to make it work. Keep plugging along on the basket weave afghan. Sounds like such a pretty stitch and it will be a gorgeous afghan, but perhaps not a stitch you will use again because its so labor intensive.
I have a bunch of heavy equipment in my back yard- which right now looks like a war zone. The driveway wraps around the back of the house, because we used to have a 2 car garage. 20 years ago- when I had all 3 kids living here and house space was tight, Dh converted the garage into a family room, so I no longer need a driveway that goes all the way around the house. The landscaper is ripping up the wrap around portion of the driveway, which was falling apart (last paved 30+ years ago). He is also putting in a small patio by the back door and will plant grass where the driveway used to be. It should all help drainage too. I hope the job will be done by the middle of next week.
Duh…..my crafting adventures yesterday took me to searching for and ordering candle making supplies. When I was upstate with Jane we went to a candle shop. She told me her favorite candle scent was fresh apple, which they were unfortunately out of. I contacted the shop who rather spottily informed me that they would not be making candles for awhile ( a different story than what they told us in the shop). Jane’s bday was Monday and I wont see her until next week, so I have time to make a candle for her. I also got a few more minutes in on the panel quilt.
Got some paperwork to do today and some more work on the class I am teaching on Friday. So it will be a quiet day thankfully its cool here this morning, even though its supposed to get warm. Nice to have the windows open for at least another hour or so.
time to get my walk in and then get started on what I need to accomplish today. Ginny
Ruth, thanks for the explanation of who sells that yarn. I will have to check it out and see if I can find it when I am in a store. Looks like I will be in Hobby lobby in a day or so…but I doubt they would carry that yarn.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's sunny here but getting warmer again, in the high 80s. I was hoping it would stay cooler. Ginny - That backyard project sounds like it will be very nice when it's done. I hope it all goes well and you can enjoy your patio area soon and in the fall. Hope you can get the candle made and finish working on the panel quilt. I went out this morning for groceries and errands, and was glad to get them done. There were a lot of crazy drivers on the road and I could feel myself becoming one of them I worked on the tablerunner this afternoon and finished the top. It measures 27x37, so it was quick to put together. I had quite a bit of fabric leftover from these two quilts (the larger one and the tablerunner) so I need to go through it and see what I can use for binding. I bought the backing fabric already. Here's the Jelly Roll quilt I finished yesterday. This is not the layout from the original pattern, but I like this layout better. If I'd known I was going to lay it out this way I would have used a light fabric that had more of a design to it. I would make this quilt again with maybe pretty floral fabrics and a print light print. The blocks go together very quickly. The Moda Blockheads block came out today so I hope to work on that tomorrow or Friday. This week looks a bit complicated. www.modafabrics.com/inspiration-resources/bh4-brenda-riddle-gentlemans-fancy - I like the fabrics that this designer makes, her colors are usually very soft and pretty. Take care everyone

CJ, I love the way you laid out the blocks and put the fabrics together. It's a different quilt than I've ever seen and I love it. They are very pretty colors and really work well together.
Ginny, it's great that you can get rid of the crumbling part of the driveway that you no longer use and have it turned into a more useable space and fix the drainage problem at the same time.It will be worth the inconvenience of all that equipment in your yard for so many days and the expense of doing it all. It's great that you're making your friend Jane that candle. She's going to love that you remembered that she loves the fresh apple scent and that you took the time to get the materials and make the candle for her.
I've worked on the basket weave afghan for most of the time today since about noon and it's coming along. I really have got this now which doesn't mean that without thinking I don't make mistakes. I let my mind wander and end up doing a section that's supposed to go from the front to the back instead and vice versa. And I don't really get why, when you make a mistake, that it's clear at the beginning of the previous row so that you have to rip out two whole rows to get to it.
Have a good night everyone.
