Can't edit when you're listed as guest so will do a new message. Anyway I remember Elayne had out of control diabetes for years. She may have died of complications of that.

as Elaine got older, she started having more medical issues, falling , in and out of ER. Several heart problems, broke a hip I think.a friend posted on the five pound thread her oxygen level went down to 40 so the doctor pull the tube out. she was gone by the next day.
I KNOW HER son has been living with her for several years, she had been told she could not live alone anymore.
I DID sew A BIAS BINDING ON AROUND TABLE MAT TODAY,BOY DO I need practice in leaning how to fit that.
tonight is our italian party for the guild,we are suppose to wear ITALAIN HEAD DRESS.SO I have a chefs hat with the italain colors on it., and glued on some dolll house type plates, silver ware, pan of roast beef and goodie and a bread basket.phyl

The last time I spoke to her her son was living with her. That was quite a few years ago and she didn't seem to like the idea much but it sounds like her condition deteriorated to the point where she had to have him there. She had an interesting life. Showed pictures of herself with well know movie stars from back in her younger years. She was also a nurse and worked in NICU...very challenging job. Yes If your O2 is down to 40 with a tube in that's definitely the time to pull it out of kindness of not letting the person suffer any longer.

Today sort of got a ton busier than I had hoped….and I know I will probably not get here much tomorrow. Will try to do so in the am.
So sorry to hear about your friend Elayne, Ruth and Phyl.
Cj- as usual the block quilt top is stunning! And I agree that designer has lovely muted fabrics. So very soft and pretty.
Sue, we miss hearing from you G

Good morning,
CJ- glad you got your shopping done even though you encountered a lot of bad drivers. Its hard to keep ones cool when the rest of the motoring public seems to be suffering from insanity… i usually just figure they area whole lot crazy and try to let them find their own trouble without involving me. A line I frequently train with is “expect stupidity, and you will never be disappointed” regarding other drivers. Anyway, glad you got home ok. The quilt is lovely, I like the contrast of the bright colors. Jane had made a similar design which looked quite different when the blocks were turned around making another pattern. Nice job. Were you able to get to work on the blockheads block?
Phyl, congrats on your good health report from the doctor. I have never done a bias binding, sounds like a bit of a challenge. I am sure yours turned out great, but it does sound like the process was a bit harrowing for you. How was the Italian party?
Ruth, that is awesome that you have gotten to the point where you can make the basket weave pattern without having to think about it. It must be a fairly complicated stitch, but sounds like it looks so very pretty!!
Busy day today- I am teaching this am and then some errands to run. Very late this afternoon I am taking DGD#1 for a hair trim, she really wants her hair to grow long, but it so desperately needs to have the ends cleaned up. At some point today I will get to HL, which might be my crafting for the day.
See.ya later!

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - Hope your bias binding came out well. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Ruth - Hope you are making progress on your blanket. Ginny - Hope the day isn't too busy and that you get to Hobby Lobby. Sue - Hope you are doing alright. It's been warm here again and sunny. I see the fawns in my yard again this afternoon. They've found a shady place to lay and rest. I finished the Moda Blockheads block yesterday and also pieced together some leftover strips from the tablerunner I finished too. I started the Oh My Stars quilt this morning, the one I'm making with some seashell fabric. It's going together pretty well and I hope I can finish that top this weekend. I'll wait until then to share some pictures. Hope you all have a great day

Good to see you here CJ! You had a busy time sewing, if you got a blockheads block done, pieced together some strips and started the new quilt. Bet that will be pretty with the seashell fabric. You seem to like nautical /ocean based fabrics at times.. I am so glad its going together well for you and you do not sound frustrated at all by that quilt. Cannot imagine working on a project and finding it excessively frustrating. Yes its warmed up a bit. Think cooler temps are heading east in a week, along with cooler evenings. So very sweet that you got to see the fawns again. They are adorable and such gentle creatures.
teaching went ok, sometimes its hard to wake up the semi comatose fellow employees- but I think I did ok. I am glad its all over and I can now relax for the week. Yes, I got to HL and picked up what I wanted to get. And took DGD to get her hair cut. All in all a good day. And my machine is home!!! Its been cleaned, tensions rebalanced, oiled and the one small issue I had with a thread guide fixed. Cannot wait to give it a try tomorrow.
Think I am going to work on the panel quilt for awhile….this should finish the binding and then, perhaps get the label on. G

Panel quilt is done and the label is on. I stayed up a bit late for me, and completed all sewing and trimmed loose threads. I just found a mailer that I can re- use, now just need to write a short note to my brother in law, get the quilt packed and down to the post office.
Not sure what I will work on today- I do want to get my machine hooked up again and see how it runs. The tech who overhauled it says it runs great. I did check out his invoice and saw that he alto tightened belt ( had no idea that there were belts, although I know my original black singer was belt driven.)
Hope everyone has a great day! Ginny

We had a wonderful rainfall Thursday night, complete with lightning strikes. There may be a short encore later today. Then, instead of cooling down, we're going to have some 90 weather after a week of sunshine! I'm ready for fall!
I've been working on the blue green scarf. Sometimes just a row or two, sometimes several inches.
Earlier this week I saw the vein surgeon and had the requisite ultrasound on both legs. Left leg was done in 2008 but needs redoing. Somewhere I have a wire structure that makes it easier to put on compression stockings, but I haven't seen it for years.
I really like the curvy strips CJ!

Sue, glad you were able to check in! Bet the rainfall sounded wonderful last night- but a shame tht it did not bring cooler temperatures with it. Think we are all ready for fall. You have a lot of time before that blue green scarf will be needed….enjoy the process of making it. The ultrasound on your legs can be uncomfortable- hope that you are able to find that aid to help get the compression stockings on. Somehow my mom was able to get them on without too much struggle. Panel quilt is in the mail.

Phy, another thing about Elayne...she also shared some patterns with me. I still have them but the one I liked most was called The Pallindrome scarf. It was a knitted cable that's the same on both sides. I don't often knit but I did make this scarf. I'd always wanted to try cables but was not brave enough to get started but when Elayne sent me this pattern I tried it and found it to be very easy and ended up with a beautiful scarf that I gifted to a close friend.
Ginny, congratulations in completeling the quilt and also getting it mailed. Your bil and sil are going to be amazed. It's so beautiful! You did such a good job on the quilting of it and actually on the whole thing.
Sue, even though rain was predicted here 4 days in a row we didn't get any. Yesterday there was a thunder storm for about 3 minutes but only thunder no rain. I hope you find your device that helps with compression stockings. I also didn't hear that we're going to have more 90 degree days here but then I really haven't checked the forecast.
This diagonal basketweave is slow going. I have been working on it all week and have about 17 inches done so now only 30 inches to go before the border. It's very dense and heavy. The pattern writer suggested chunky yarn. I'm using #4 weight yarn and this is definitely dense and heavy enough with the lighter yarn.I can't imagine how it would be with chunky...way too heavy to mail for sure.
CJ, I hope you're having a good day. I hate driving in traffic also. Some people are definitely maniacal drivers.

HI LADIES, Ruth that Pallindrome scarf sounds beautiful, how come you never made one for yourself?
there was a picture posted OF Elaine ,looked like she may have been dancing with actor Robert Horton, not sure.those are two people I would have loved to met in my life ,not in the the path of life, sigh.
the party was a lot of fun,a quilter and her dd both came with the head dress of the stature of liberty. mom won the main prize.
they had little card board box containers on the tables and if yours had a anchor on it you won the drawing. I won a certificate for 20 dollars to the river road quilt shop.
then other drawings were if you brung in cans of tomatoes or prego sauces and boxes of spaghettei your name went in abag and other drawings were held.
the salad was a joke, lettuce and of a cherry tomato, Stephanie thought we were getting a whole cherry tomato on the salads, still good. then we had pizza, spaghetti and meat sauce and brad sticks and sherbet.
then we paraded through the bar the bar tender loved it some of the ladies love it and some of the men what the heck is going on? very fun night.
today we went out to the local quilt shop, they did not have what I wanted,
so will spend my certificate some other time. phyl

Phyl, I never make things for myself or never have. Now I have a list of things I want to make for me and that will be on the list. Now all I have to do is get the other things on my list done so that I can work on my own. Oh and I don't really use scarves but I've decided that I do need to use them so I have several cowls on my list for me also. I am going to make that scarf. Actually even though I do very little knitting my knitting actually looks better, probably, than my crochet does. In knitting I make nice even stitches but I'm slow in knitting. I did see pictures of Elayne dancing with some celebrities. I can't remember now who she said they were.
Congrats on winning the $20 certificate!!
I looked up the weather report because of what Sue said and it turns out we're in for the same weather. 90's will be starting Monday. I got a lot of cooking done so we will have food to eat without heating the kitchen or standing by a hot stove.

Ruth, I am glad you are planning on making some items for yourself. I know you have such a giving heart but still it might be nice to make something from yourself in a yarn that in particular makes your heart sing. Think a cowl or a scarf is a lovely project to do that with, a nice managable sized project for sure.
Phyl- congrats on winning the gift certificate! A shame that the shop did not have the particular item you were looking for, but I am sure at some point in the future you will be able to use that.
Sorry I bored everyone with the final picture of the panel quilt, which should arrive in its final location on Tuesday. They have no idea its coming. I made a split rail quilt for DSIL (DBIL’s wife) 10 years ago- she became very very ill then and we almost lost her. So I made the quilt so it could give her a hug from me daily, even when I could physically not do so. Just glad this valor quilt is done and in the mail. Both DBIL and DSIL are very patriotic people.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the weekend. It has been warm here and looks like we'll still have some days in the 90s this coming week. I sure hope by mid-September it starts getting cooler. Ginny - Your panel quilt looks great, I'm glad you were able to finish it and I hope you BIL loves it Please let us know what he says. It's nice that you can make quilts for family and I'm sure they enjoy them. I admire you doing the free motion quilting on it, and it looks pretty. I do like nautical things. We went to the beach for vacations when I was a kid and I loved to go to the Outer Banks, NC as an adult - preferably in the off season. I love lighthouses and looking at the ocean waves. Sue - Hope things will work out with your legs and any medical work you need done. I'm glad you've been able to work on your scarf too. Phyl - Your party sounds like it was fun and congratulations on winning the gift certificate, you'll have to let us know what you get with it. Ruth - Hope you can continue to make progress on the diagonal basketweave project. I'm glad you were able to get food cooked for several meals so you won't have to heat up your kitchen. I finished the Oh My Stars quilt using the seashell fabric and I'm happy with it. The pattern is not difficult but I tried something different with piecing the center of the quilt and made it a lot more difficult. That inner border actually takes more work then most of the rest of the quilt, except for the star points. I have some of the leftover fabrics from this quilt (just the four main fabrics in the center - not the star or inner border fabric) that I'm going to make into a small quilt. I saw a picture of an easy top that just uses squares and I'm going to try that. I'm including a picture of the recent Moda Blockheads block I finished this week and also the table runner with the fabric from the kit I bought at Shabby Fabrics. There was fabric to make two quilts (larger one and tablerunner). I'll post the picture of the larger quilt too so you can see it again. Take care everyone and have a great day!
