Ruth, that is a pretty funny story about your DGD- perhaps she can get her baby fix in by helping at the church nursery? Ah the joys of maturing….seems like we have to get up a few times in the middle of the night if we drank too much water during the day. Hope you can sleep well tonight! The hatching chickens sound adorable, bet they will turn out so cute.

Yes that's how she came to love holding babies is by helping in the nursery at church. She just turned 11 last month but she's a very responsible child and, of course there is always more than one adult in the nursery also.
I just remembered that I had a cup of tea not long before I went to bed thus the trips in the night.

That is the one down side of an evening cup of tea. It can really become a challenge when it interferes with a good nights sleep. Hope that you were able to sleep better last night, Ruth.
CJ, you too! Hope that you slept well last night.
It rained for half of last night, and I think today is supposed to be seasonable and windy. I did get another row done on the afghan- so comforting to crochet in the evening. BBL Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather It's sunny here after the rain yesterday, but cool. I feel like I never (or rarely) get a good night's sleep. I don't wake up feeling rested. It's one of the things I really don't like about being older I finished making the Christmas mug quilt blocks that I had cut up recently. And I think I know how I want to sew them together, so I hope to get that done this weekend. I also used the rest of those lime green/white blocks I made to make a small table topper using a fat quarter I had that was all limes. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend. Hope you all get to do some crafting and that you have a great weekend!

CJ, you are just so creative! Plus it seems like you always have fabric that will go with other fabric you have. If I remember correctly you said you couldn't use the green for more blocks because you didn't have anymore of the white tonal fabric that was the same white and here you go finding a perfect fabric to go with that green. It sounds like it's going to be really pretty.
I think Phyl posted her thread in the wrong spot. She said she wasn't feeling well and I can tell that by the fact that she did that. I hope you feel better soon Phyl
Ginny, I hope you're feeling good and having a good day.
It is great weather here CJ. Thank you
I've changed plans and decided to make the hatching chick for youngest great grandson instead of the two youngest grandsons. I'm going to make the Olaf from Frozen instead. It also is coming out quite large because the pattern writer used a fine yarn and since I don't have any I used a worsted weight but I'm sure they'll like the large ones too.

CJ , that sure does stink that you no longer feel rested after a nights sleep. Think you are right, its something many who are getting older are prone to. At least for my area, think cooler temps and fall are really here. Glad you had a sunny day. Are all your air conditioners put away now? How many different fabrics did you use for the Christmas mug quilt? Gotta say that I am glad you decided to stick with that block, I think that the other blocks were ok but the mug block was really adorable. I am looking forward to seeing the different fabrics you used for those blocks and how it all works together. It will be so pretty, as are all of your quilt tops.
Worked yesterday morning, and shortly thereafter went out with DD#2 and DGS. We drove to a small zoo (with a very scenic setting) which made for a really nice walk on an early fall day. Leaves are turning color here, its finally fall. Think little DGS liked the time there, they have a cute small reptile exhibit (all are behind glass) which allows a very little boy to stand nose to nose with snakes, frogs, fish etc…..think he enjoyed that. Then we went to BJ’s and stocked up on some items. Food prices are insane, and I was glad I was able to help DD get some supplies at BJ’s and save her some money.
I did get some crocheting done last night. Not making great progress on this afghan but every row I do today is one more row closer to finished. Think Jane and I are going to the quilt show today. G

Ruth, just noticed that you posted also.(would be helpful if I refreshed the page, right?) Think that Olaf is an adorable alternative to the hatching chicks. Ok so where do you get such great ideas from to crochet? GLad to hear that you are also enjoying great weather. How is Dh doing with his PT?
I was shocked when chatting with a friend about the number of birthdays in this month. Many in her family were born in this month and its made a challenge for her to celebrate her October birthday family members (each one wants their “own day” which I personally find absurd). Her whole week has been taken up by the birthday folks…..just a funny anecdote. Happy Birthday October birthday folks! A great month to be born in.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's sunny and in the low 70s here, a nice Fall day. It's the kind of day I'd love to go for a drive, but not with all the traffic and crazy drivers there are around here now Ruth - I love the character Olaf, that will be a really cute crocheted item for your great grandson The limes squares (picture below) did use up the last of that white on white fabric I had. Ginny - Sounds like your grandson really enjoyed the zoo, and the walk does sound nice. I was able to put away my AC units a few weeks ago, and was happy to be done with them for the season. I guess you are enjoying your new room (I think you said there was a fireplace in it) now that the weather is getting cooler. Phyl and Sue - Hope you can check in sometime I finished the Christmas mug quilt top this morning. There are 9 mugs each with a different fabric from a fat quarter I had. I alternated the green and red for the bottoms and handles of the mugs. Then I added a small border. I'm happy with how this came out. I really want to make a wall hanging with 12 mugs, one for each month of the year. I'm also posting a picture of the lime quilt blocks, and then the top I added them into. There's also a close-up of the limes fabric so you can see it better. I pulled some new fabrics to maybe work on a Fall quilt next. I want to do a test block to see how the fabrics go together first. I keep finding Christmas and Winter fabrics to work with, but I want to make some Fall/Autumn ones first I was thinking that some people might say what is the point of me making all these small quilt tops, and large ones too, but then doing nothing with them. But for me the fun is using the fabrics in a nice pattern and seeing it all come together. I don't really care if they are used or not - I know I'm kinda strange Hope you all get to do some crafting this weekend. Take care!

CJ- you have inspired yourself to make quiet an adorable quilt, making a top with 12 different mugs - would you use the same quilt block pattern or try something else? I suppose you could even use the same pattern and vary which side of the mug the handle was on. Its a a really sweet idea no matter what. I love how you varied the different fabrics for the mugs, it makes for a really sweet Christmas top. You make so many sweet quilt tops, I just wish you made one or two that you completed (top and quilted and bound) for yourself to enjoy.
I got to the quilt show with Jane. Wow. I have not been there in a didn’t realize it was six years since the last one, and it’s just such an impressive show. They have lots of vendors there and I was a good girl and resisted and didn’t buy anything. Jane and I did find another quilt shop that’s only an hours drive from us. That is good because we were noting that the local quilt shop that we go to on doesn’t really have a full variety of fabrics. Perhaps this other one that’s an hour away will be able to help us out if we are in pursuit of a special fabric. The quilts on display were magnificent. We were both inspired by so many of them and the diversity of what other people have made. We looked very closely at a lot of the quilts and saw that many of them are not perfect. That was a true inspiration for both of us because from a distance they looked absolutely magnificent and then the closer you got you saw that maybe someone’s corners didn’t quite match or that their top stitching was not perfect. But that was an inspiration to both of us so that we know that we can continue on quilting and make or not so perfect quilts that still look pretty good from a distance. I will say there are some really super talented quilters out there, and we saw some outstanding quilts and got great ideas. The different quilting techniques were absolutely insane….and with such a level of detail. I will never be at that level of quilting- never. But its so much fun to look.

I did get a bit done on Olaf today but then took time out to look at Medicare supplement plans and advantage plans. Then dgs #3 stopped over. I haven't seen him since the beginning of last year. He's so tall. His dad is 6'5 or so and I think he might be. He's way above me at my 5'2" height. He is my dd's youngest and is 17,
CJ, It sounds like you're really enjoying these quilt tops and I'm glad you are because they are beautiful. I sure like the green and white blocks!
Ginny, a quilt show is a great thing to attend. And seeing the the "pros" aren't completely perfect is a good thing. I always look at the crochet work of others to remind myself that one does not have to be perfect. I have a hard time accepting my imperfections but if I let it bother me I would never get anything made. Dgs told me his girlfriend crochets but then he told me that his youngest sister crochets but actually she knits so I don't really know which his gf does. He's only 17 as I mentioned so will undoubtedly have a different gf next time I see him Anyway I'm glad you found a quilt shop fairly near that you and Jane can go to when you need something the closer one doesn't have.
Ok I might go back to working on Olaf. See you all tomorrow
Oh and I meant to mention that all my life it seemed as though I never woke up rested and aging didn't help until recently. Now I am rested every day except on any day that I actually have to get up early in the morning. So maybe as you get older you ladies will start feeling more rested in the mornings

Ruth, so nice that your DGS stopped over to visit you! Wow- he is a tall person, having someone so tall in your home always seems to make a persons house seem smaller while they are visiting. I am not much taller than you (5”4”) and know how being around someone much taller feels. At 17 its possible that your DGS still grows another inch or two. My Dh said he still kept growing until he was 20.
Funny, some people do not know the difference between crochet and knitting- and they call it knitting because it seems easier. At 17 its all playing with yarn to someone who does know understand the difference. I bought some sneakers this past summer called “knitty kitties”- they are canvas with balls of yarn and cat faces….very cute. No crochet hooks but they honor the fact that I live with two felines.
Silly me…I have made some plans to cook certain foods and I still do not have a working oven. Today I am making a quiche and a banana bread in two different crock pots. Both recipes get good reviews- I am missing my oven a little bit (new stove is supposed to be installed on Thursday). Not sure if I will crochet or quilt today. Might crochet during the football game that I want to watch later on.
Have a great day! Ginny

10 jars of applesauce canned, and I did make the banana bread. Think I am going to take a break and that might be all the work I do today.

Well Ginny, it sounds like you already got a lot done today. I wish we had more access to apples here. I'd make applesauce too.And I'd make a lot of apple crisp because I really like it.
Being that today Is Sunday I'm working on a hat. It's yet another that I started sometime in the past. I have several more hats that are so far just the ribbing brim. I'm getting better now at remembering to put each of my started projects in a bag with a note stating what pattern it is, size of hook and where I left off. Luckily today I recognized the stitch, didn't know what size hook so I tried one and it looked right so I guess I guessed correctly.

Ruth, good for you getting your projects marked so you know what you worked on including pattern and hook size, which will make it much easier when you go back to work on the hat again. Last Monday I made apple crisp to bring to bible study (which was a big hit). Yes, its sure good stuff. Just glad I got the apples in jars and am all set for the winter for applesauce.
Got a few QAYG blocks done. Time to watch the final episode of Chesapeake shores.
