Its a rainy Monday here, but for me it appears as though the rain will end later this morning.
Ruth.it does sound as though you had a lovely day- crocheting away. Now you have a deadline for getting projects done if Dh wants to to send a shipment to Indiana later this week. Will Olaf be in that shipment? Wow, snow on the mountain already? Yes, I guess that time of year is coming, and really its almost November. For my area the first snow is around the middle of November- only a few weeks away. It sounds cozy, being home and seeing a view of the mountains in the distance, covered in snow.
My friend called again last night, and regretfully caught me when I was really tired and not all that attentive. I hope her daughter returns home tonight (she is alive..but has spent a few nights out with a strange man). Its a very sad situation, no need to burden the thread here with her personal saga. Kind of nice to be home from babysitting today, and yes I might have a slight case of whatever my Dd and her family have.

Hello Ginny - I'm sorry to hear you and some of your family aren't feeling well, hope you are all better soon. Ruth - Hope you can get everything done that you want so it can be mailed this week. It's a cloudy day here with temps around 60. I think the rest of the week is supposed to be in the 70s. I finished sorting the 2.5 inch squares by color and have them stored neatly in a container. All the squares that didn't fit into a color I've laid out into 16 patch and 9 patch blocks and I'm ready to sew them together. It felt good to get this done. I'll have to think about saving fabric that doesn't read as a color, since there isn't much I can do with it since I don't really care for scrappy quilts. I do hope to make something with the rest of the squares I sorted. After getting this done I think I'll pull out the 2.5 inch strips and the 4.5 inch strips I've also been saving and get them organized. I know I can get several quilt tops out of them. It's been a good year for me to get through all those scraps. I'll have to be careful how I save scraps going forward. Take care

CJ, what a feeling of accomplishment you must have, getting those 2.5 inch squares sorted and neatly put away! Love the idea of the 16 patch and 9 patch blocks, you can have a lot of fun with those. 9 patch blocks are so cute- versatile and can be very dramatic. Cannot wait to see what you do with them.
No baby sitting tomorrow, Dd is staying home with her sick brood. DSIL was with them today. I dropped off some goodies at their house on the way home from the other DD where I babysat today. One goody was a snake skin…..ok I am nuts, but when I was doing yard work I found an abandoned snake skin and knew my young DGS (who is not feeling well) might enjoy seeing it. Little boys think snakes are cool and this discarded skin is actually in good shape. Hope he thought it was cool and that it made him feel a bit better for a minute.

Ginny, I know your grandson will love the snakeskin. We still have one here from when my ds, dd, and sil found a rattle snake in our backyard. They killed it and cooked it and saved the skin
CJ, yes what Ginny said. You are all organized now with those little blocks and have a plan
Today I packed up the things I made for Indiana family and put some birthday gifts in there too. I had a "helper". On Sunday I crocheted a penguin and he's just really amazing. I was so tempted to keep him but I know I can make more. I hope the kids all like their things. On Sunday I made new chap stick holders and put the metal rings on them and chapsticks in them. I found a good deal on line for chapstick.
It's still cold here but warmer than the forecasters said it would be. It did rain earlier but luckily no snow.

Ruth, I heard that DGS#1 really thought the snake skin was cool- such a little boy thing. This was probably a garter snake, but I must say a fairly large garter snake (garter snakes are totally harmless). I looked and it does not appear to be a ratttlesnake skin, although rattle snakes are in my area, they are not common where I live. Glad you got everything packed up and ready to ship to Indiana. You crocheted a penguin?! Oh my gosh, it sounds adorable! If its not too challenging to make I would absolutely make one for yourself. The chapstick holders sound perfect, especially knowing that chapstick season is coming and here.
Hope to get some housework today, and some crafting. G

Ginny, I'm glad your dgs #1 liked the snakeskin. Here we have bull snakes that look very much like rattle snakes except for the rattles. I was at work when ds, etc got the rattlesnake but I did see the skin and we still have it. I should take it with me next time I visit and give it to him. It had to be almost 30 years ago that they caught it.
Well after spending a significant amount of time online with UPS it ended up that they wanted me to print a label and I have no printer. You can save quite a bit of money doing it online. So then we changed plans for today to take it to the main UPS facility here and it ended up that the road is closed and no way to get to UPS except to drive about 25 miles to a little town to get to the other end of that road. All in all another very frustrating day.we also shopped and did a couple other errands.
Ginny, the penguin is easy if you can interpret what the woman is saying and doing. I'm not sure what language it's originally in or what country the woman is in but the translation is very interesting. I mostly watched what she was doing and then for the little wings and feet I did my own "thing". I had no idea what weight of yarn she was using or what size hook. I left a comment and she did answer saying that she doesn't know yarn by weight only by milimeters and the yarn she used was 2mm. I used 4 weight (medium) and a 3.5 mm hook so it came out about 8 inches tall. Oh and you asked about Olaf...yes he was sent also. Penguin will be for my second youngest grandson and Olaf will be for the youngest along with the stuffed snake, dino and shark.
I didn't get much crocheting done yesterday at all due to working on wrapped the gifts and packing those and the crocheted things. That took up a lot of my time but I did do about half of a waffle stitch hat. I'd like to get that and 2 more done before the first and do an edging on an old blanket to meet my oct goals.I didn't write down my goals so can't remember the rest but I did get a lot of crocheting done this month

Hello Everyone Ginny - I hope you are feeling better and that the rest of your family is feeling better soon. Ruth - The penguin sounds so cute, I hope the kids will like it and Olaf. So for the frustrating day, but glad you were able to mail the package and get some other errands done while you were out. I went out yesterday to get some groceries so I didn't do any quilting. Dealing with the traffic and groceries, mentally wears me out. Today I made Block #8 for the Hometown Charms quilt along. It's a cute pineaple block and a very easy pattern. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2022/10/its-all-about-the-neighbors-hometown-charms-8-secret-lives-74-pumpkins-.htmlI also sewed together the 9 patch blocks but still have the 16 patch blocks to make. I had a few little pinwheel blocks that I made with the extra HSTs from Block #8 so that led me to take a look at my orphan blocks that I've just been stacking away. I have a bunch of pinwheel blocks in there and was thinking it might be neat just to make a quilt top of those. I'll have to see. While I was going through those orphan blocks I found 3 large blocks that I'd made after one of the quilt alongs last year. It's all in Fall fabrics/colors and I had enough of the fabrics, to add some sashing and sew the 3 blocks together and make a table runner. I already have the batting, backing and binding made so I'm going to try to quilt it before the end of the month. Take care

CJ- that is great that you have enough supplies to make a table runner from the fall fabrics you have. That is a perfect project, one that you do not have to go out to buy additional supplies for!! What is perfect is that you can sit down and make that runner when you feel like it. Got any idea what you will do with the 9 patch blocks? I think that pineapple block is adorable, and would be tempted to make a pineapple only quilt. (Just add that to my list of quilts that I want to make!). Its really sweet, and looks like a lot of fun to make. Simply amazing how some angle cuts and HST’s can be used to make different designs.
Ruth, glad Olaf and the penguin were easy enough for you. What a pain in the next that no one will print out shipping labels for you! Yes I do remember being able to save some money using a print your own label option. Do you have a library close by and do they offer printing? Here they only charge 25 cents a page, Perhaps something like that could work for you, or perhaps something like Staples if there is one nearby. Its a lot of work getting a package ready to ship. Were you able to get some work done on the waffle stitch hat? Are you planning on making another 2 waffle stitch hats (am I interpreting your post correctly?).
Yesterday…I enjoyed sleeping a little bit late, having tea outside and a nice walk with Jane and her DGS. I did get some leaves into bags, and will work on more in a little bit. Got a lot of deciduous trees in my yard. Ds did some work on that this am when I was at work. I also ran some errands this am after work- tomorrow hope to get my flu shot. If not tomorrow I will schedule it for next week.
Think tonight is a good night to crochet. Ginny

Hi Ginny - Hope you get to do some crochet tonight Sounds like you had a good day yesterday and I bet it was nice to be outside. Ruth - Hope you are doing well today Phyl and Sue - Hi It was nice to be able to use those blocks to make the tablerunner. I have the quilt, batting and backing lying together for a bit, I like to let it flatten out. Then hopefully I can machine quilt it. This morning I made 4 more of the lime green and white Farmer's Daughter blocks - I posted a picture a while back. They finished at 5 1/2 inches and I had enough of the green fabric to cut four larger squares and I put the 5 blocks and 4 squares of fabric together into a large 9 patch. It measures 15x15, and would be a nice small wall quilt or a pillow cover. I hope I've over the obsession I've had with this lime green fabric I'm constantly wanting to make something with it. I sewed together one of the 16 patch blocks and hope to get the rest of them done in the next few days (I had 10 in total). I think I will just use 9 of them and add some sashing for a small quilt. Otherwise, I'll add them to my orphan blocks. I had thought about catching up with the quilt along at "A Quilting Life". I pulled out the Jan and Feb blocks I'd made, but I don't like them enough to want to make Mar-Oct to catch up, so those need to go back with the orphan blocks. Tomorrow is the next Sewcialites block. From the layout they gave us it looks like a flower spray block, so I hope to pick out a few blue fabrics to make it with. Take care everyone

I guess I forgot to come in here yesterday. We were out again and the saga of my life...tried to return an item to Walmart that dh ordered online. I had him send the receipt to me in email but when I tried to bring it up in the store the email wanted me to put in my password which I've forgotten so that didn't work. I mentioned to the associate that I thought that since they sold them in the store she could just scan it but she insisted not. After quite a long period of time she told me that I could just give her the email address it was ordered on. So off I went to find dh to ask which email he ordered it on...back to service desk. She put in the email address and claimed that order didn't show up. She did it three time and still claimed it wasn't there. I asked her to let me see which she finally did and there was the order right there. Finally got that straightened out, Still haven't gotten the package sent...another long story..
Weather was fairly nice at least. We came home and I did a little cleaning after putting things away then did a little crocheting working on another hat so that #3 hat will be done in another 15 minutes so that makes my three. I'm going to dig in my blanket box today and find one to edge.
Ginny, I hope the grandchildren are well now and I'm glad you were able to sleep in a little bit yesterday.
CJ, as usual you are accomplishing a LOT.
Have a great day all and I'll be back later

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you finally got things worked out at Walmart, that sounds very frustrating. Hope you can get the package mailed soon. I'm happy to hear your weather is nicer. Ginny - Hope you are feeling well and had a good day. Phyl and Sue - Hi It was cooler here today, in the 50s and cloudy. I like weather like this since it feels like Fall. I finished the second block of Sewcialites this morning and I also was able to sew together the 10 blocks of 16 scrappy squares into blocks. I was getting ready to trim them when I got a phone call so I had to stop. I hope to get that done this weekend. I also pulled out my white and cream scraps and they were a mess just thrown into ziploc bags. I'm sorting them out and I'll put the 2.5 inch strips together and then cut some smaller pieces too. At least I'll have those gone through. Here are some pictures of things I've made recently - 1) Pineapple block from Hometown Charms, 2) Farmer's Daughter blocks with the lime green and white fabric, and 3) Block 1 and Block 2 from the Sewcialites quilt along: Take care everyone!

They are all beautiful CJ, When I looked at the one on the site you posted yesterday I thought I didn't care for pineapple squares but in the colors you chose I do really like it. I love the lime green and can see why you would be obsessed with that color! I love the blue one also.
Dgs just stopped over again. He was sitting in the van he drives and some man came close to where he was and he thought the man wanted something. Turned out the guy pulled out a gun and aimed it at him. My grandson sped away and luckily wasn't hurt. Things like that are rare here so when it happens we are all shocked.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I'm so glad your DGS is safe, that is so scary! It seems like we aren't safe anywhere anymore Ginny - I hope you are O.K., please post and let us know I finished up the scrappy 16 patch quilt top this morning and sorted out the rest of the white and cream scraps. I did end up throwing away a bunch of 1 inch/1.5 inch strips, since I can't really use them in anything. I still have one ziploc bag of larger pieces of fabric scraps and I'm going to go through them next and put them with my fat quarters if they are large enough. I just want to be done with all this scrap sorting This quilt reminds me I don't really care for scrappy quilts, but it is fun to see all the fabrics from previous projects. It finished at 28x28 inches. It's a pretty day here, sunny and in the 50s. Hope your weather is nice too. Take care!

I'm wondering about Ginny also. Ginny, where are you?
I see what you mean, CJ, about scrappy quilts but I like yours and, as you said, it reminds you of many other quilts you have made. It's also historical because this is what many of our ancestors did. They didn't want to waste anything so they made scrappy quilts which also worked to keep their families warm.
It's mostly always sunny here but today is also fairly warm in the 50's also.
I'll be back later. I'm going to make my Nov list. I did exceed my goal in making hats. I have more than 20 done. Not sure how many because I have them mixed in with some I did prior but I know I have probably 22 or 23 and there's always tomorrow but today I'm going to get out that blanket for sure. In fact I'll go right now and do it.
