Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

We have had this discussion before, directions can be so confusing. IMO if someone is going to post directions, they need to be proofread by a complete stranger who knows nothing about the project. Many people write instructions thinking they are clear and concise and do not realize that they have left out critical steps that it is assumed that the reader knows.
Got a little bit done on the ornament last night, it should be easy and today I have to dive into my DMC stash - see if I have the colors I want to substitute in to make the ornament look like the cat my friend has.
Dd has sick kids this am, so I am not babysitting today. Going for a walk with a friend in a little bit and then will dive into some work around the house for awhile.

Yes if people are going to sell patterns or even share them free they should not assume that the person using that pattern will know what they, the writer, is talking about. All should be spelled out and she or he should have tested the pattern and made sure all the directions are clear.
Ginny, I'm sorry that the children are sick. This time of year is bad for illnesses in children since they are back in school and exposed to a lot of nasty germs.
The wind had died down yesterday but is back today just not as hard as the few days before were.
I'm still working on hats and got two done yesterday.I think that I have 6 done for this month already but I want to make the 10 for donating and six for family members..oh actually 7 then a couple more Christmas gifts.I could never get 50 done in a month like the woman that CJ mentioned. My hands would never allow that..they'd hurt.

But Ruth, even getting 4 hats done in a month is a wonderful thing….and you are talking about making 16 or 17 this month!! If you are hurting your hands from crocheting, then its not really crafting, it’s torture. Sorry that the wind is back. For many, the wind takes a pleasant day and makes it unpleasant.
Got some housework done this morning and then went to the library program with DD#2 and her little fellow. Its such a cute program- its sort of a music program and the librarian who runs it is delightful. We hope to get DGS signed up for the next time this program is offerred in early 2023. Wow 2023 sounds wierd.
I had to take a break and take a look for my DMC floss, which I will need to finish the ornament. Found my bag of floss….oh I was getting so frustrated when I did not initially find it, but its been found. Now on to ornament assembly.
Hope everyone had a great Monday G

Hello Everyone Weather here was beautiful today, in the 70s, sunny and breezy. Hard to believe it's November. Ruth - I'm glad you are getting some hats done and I'm sure your family loves to wear them. Ginny - Sounds like you had a busy day. I'm glad you found your floss. I finished making the 16 patch blocks and just need to finish the trimming of the hourglass blocks, which I started this morning. the blocks need to measure 4 inches square. The pattern was written very nicely so that the blocks finish more at 4.5 inches squares so there is a nice amount to trim. I prefer that over just needing to trim a sliver of fabric which is harder. Take care

CJ, I can’t stand it when the directions refer to the block will be a scant quarter inch seam, and it does not give you much room for error. I’m glad to hear that you have plenty of room on your blocks for trimming and just to make it fit. Sometimes it’s just really hard to get that quarter inch seem perfectly. Kudos to whoever wrote those directions that directions are well written and it worked out well for you. Sounds like you’re making excellent progress on your comment and that you’ll have that quilt top done soon. With the pretty fabrics that you’ve chosen I think it will be stunning.
Just got back from running some errands with my grandson, and we went into Hobby lobby for a little bit. I bought a paint book for him the kind that has the paint already on the page so all you have to do is wet the brush to smear the paint around. At 17 months I think that’s About all he can handle!
I voted this morning, and it’s 615 had to wait about 10 minutes to cast my ballot. I’m glad that’s done with so when I’m done babysitting I can just head home, and continue working on that ornament that I started working on more seriously last night. Because it’s my first attempt with this type of a craft it’s really taking my time is I have to read each direction step carefully and make sure that I don’t make a mess of it.

Hello Ginny - Hope you were able to get more done on your ornament and that the directions are good. It's sunny here today, but a lot cooler, with a high of 59, compared to the high 70s yesterday. I think weather is kind of fascinating, I would never want to have to predict it. I finished making all the components for the 15 blocks I have left on the Comet quilt. Each block is basically a large 4 patch, so I have the four parts made for all the blocks and I'm ready to put them together. I worked on this for a couple of hours this morning and that was enough for me. So I hope to get the blocks put together later this week and then figure out the layout so I can get them sewn into a quilt top. I made some little 16 patch blocks from leftover 1.5 inch strips of fabric I had from making these blocks, so those are cute and will go in with my orphan blocks. Hope you all get to do some crafting too. Take care!

Well I guess I forgot to post here yesterday. I hope you are both doing well and do some things you enjoy
The coldest day here will be tomorrow but today is very cold also.
yesterday I struggled trying to start a hat that I've made before. I think the problem is the color changes in the yarn throwing me off.I changed to a different yarn and finally got a hat made. I had no problem with this one.

Ruth, I can imagine the difficulty in making a hat with color changes throwing off your stitch placement or stitch count. Smart move switching to a different yarn and getting the hat made that way. Good news that in using a different yarn, that you are finding no trouble. Are you supposed to get any snow along with the cold air?
CJ- sounds like a perfect time to take a break from the comet quilt. All those somewhat intense colors of swirl fabric will look great together in the quilt. Nice to take a breather from it for a few hours to return to the quilt top tomorrow with a better idea of how to do the layout. I can imagine the 16 patch blocks are adorable, and again the colors will play off each other nicely.
Well, when I stopped at HL yesterday with DGS#3, I picked up a few water color books- they are coloring books that have the water color printed on the page already.its a bit neater and easier for little ones to use. DGD and DGS had a blast with them today (we did get some crafting in then!) and also went to the park. It was a cool but sunny day, and good weather to be at a park. Last night I decided to make the first ornament for myself, as I have a black cat also. The first ornament will be a trial run, me practicing my stitches and use of DMC thread. The directions are ok but missing some details, so having a practice ornament is a good thing. Unreal, that now we have to be concerned about Nicole, the latest hurricane. I will get some rain from it and wind, but think we should be ok. Anyway, going to sit down and work on the ornament now, to get some ideas on how to finish it. G

Ginny, I forgot about those coloring books.I wonder if I could find some on line to order for the great grandchildren I'm glad the books kept your little ones occupied so that you could get some crocheting time in. And all that fresh air going to the park may help their parents as It may help the children get to sleep easier
CJ, Yes there is only a certain amount of time somtimes that a person and work at the same thing. I do like the swirls in the fabric also but after a couple hours it may get to you.
I do hope and pray that neither of you get weather that's too bad from this newest hurricane. The were wrong here about today's weather as it turned out to be colder than they forecasted. Tomorrow is still supposed to be even colder than today. I'll sit in the winter quarters and crochet and read some in my book.

Hello - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad the kids enjoyed the painting/coloring books. Hope the ornament making went well. Ruth - Hope it isn't too cold where you are. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. It was sunny here this morning, but now it's cloudy. Tomorrow we are supposed to have rain most of the day and evening, I'm just hoping we don't get any storms. I went out yesterday morning to run errands and pick up a few groceries, so I didn't get to do any quilting. I'll get some more groceries next week and then I can stay out of the store the week of Thanksgiving. Things always seem to get a bit crazy in the grocery stores in those 3 days running up to Thanksgiving. When I was working I loved to go get groceries on the day after Thanksgiving because there was never anyone in the store This morning I made Block 10 for the Hometown Charms quilt. I had the "bright" idea to change it around a little bit and when I finished it, I realized that was a mistake So I remade the block this afternoon. I'm happy with the correct version now. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2022/11/hometown-charms-block-10-auction-ending-emptying-bins-.htmlWe only have 2 more blocks to go and I'll be happy to finish this quilt top, I really like the fabrics I've put together in it and some of the block patterns are cute - the house, boat and pineapple. I hope one of the last blocks is some other kind of cute block. Hopefully I can get back to finishing the Comet quilt next. Then I still have a bunch of flying geese units to make for the Melodic Melody Mystery, to be caught up for this month: meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/2022/11/melodic-mystery-more-flying-geese.htmlTake care

CJ,I love the orange and white parts of the top block on that site. And showing that shows again that even the pros aren't completely perfect as I see two of the blocksT are not completely perfectly sewn together. No one would probably notice unless the were looking closely which I was but don't know why. I sounds like you're getting a lot accomplished as usual. Yes it's a great idea to get shopping done next week to avoid the rush the week after.I saw a feature on tv yesterday about the huge price in turkeys. We won't be buying a turkey and wouldn't even if the price hadn't risen. Since there are only two of us a whole turkey is just too much. I like the thighs and dh likes the leg and breast but we won't buy those separately either. It was always a tradition but hasn't been now for the last few years.DH has a doctor app't next Thurs so we'll shop then
Today it was very cold. At noon it was 15 degrees. This is just one of the reasons I dislike winter.
Crafting wise today I've been looking at patterns for men's scarves. It's one of the things I'm planning on making for the men in the family here.Right now I'm still working on hats.I have a lot of them done but it's a project that is done fast and that's what I needed after making so many blankets in the last 3months or so.
I'll bbl

Ruth, how many scarves do you think you will be making- will you also make a scarf for Dh? 15 degrees is awfully cold for November. Has Dh started up your wood burner yet? Here in my area we can get “free” turkeys, based upon the amount of money spent in a store. I agree for two people a whole turkey, even a small one is way too much. My mom used to be a be able to ask the store butcher to saw (cut) the turkey in half while still frozen, which was a way for her to get a whole turkey from one of those “free” promotionals and not have to cook a whole turkey. Like you , my mom used to prefer dark meat, and like your Dh I prefer the breast.
CJ, that must have been so frustrating to change the block 10 only to find that you had to correct it. Guess the good news is that you are pleased with the latest version. I am glad you were able to get your grocery errands done so soon - nice and early before Thanksgiving. Yes the stores will be a mess next week.
I worked a whole lot more today than I thought I would. And I went to the store also, as I am trying to get groceries in for Thanksgiving- which I am cooking for. I still have a lot to pick up, but I try to catch the sale items that my local store always puts on the week before Thanksgiving. So its been a long day for sure. I cannot make much sense out of the weather. Some reports indicate that I will see some impact, others that it will be significant. Hope that CJ and I stay out of harms way and that we get only minimal impact of wind and rain.

Ginny,we always had a free turkey with buying a certain amount of groceries but I haven't seen anything like that this year. The'll probably have Kroger turkeys on what they will be calling a sale but I've tried Kroger turkey twice now and neither one tasted good at all. I didn't really see that in this weeks ad.
Sorry you had to work more than you expected but you seem to enjoy the work. Did you drive or teach? I think it's a great idea to make an ornament for yourself first.
I'll be making 5 scarves although since my grandaughter and her "partner" aren't together anymore I don't know that it will be necessary that I make one for him although if they get back together there might be hard feelings if I haven't made him a scarf. And,actually he's the one that's most likely to use a scarf. I don't know if I'll make dh one or not although now that I think about it I might. It's very hard to figure out what to get him for gifts. Actually it's hard for me to figure out what to get for gifts for anyone.
