Do not think we have any Veterans on this board, but I know that there are many who are lurking - thank you for your service. Got many Veterans in my family, who served this nation honorably.
Ruth, before I forget, Hobby Lobby has those paint with water books for $1.99- both in the store and online. They did not have a huge assortment of varieties. Of course without a HL near you you would have to have them shipped, and that is probably something you would not want to pay for because they have a high cart cost for free shipping. Walmart has those books too but at $7-12 a book it seems like a waste. DGD made 5 of those pictures on Wednesday, she LOVED the book, which I spent quite a bit less than $7 for.
Yesterday I rode shotgun with another driver, (new driver), then trained. My training schedule was off a bit, because my trainee is a Veteran and he wanted to attend a Veterans appreciation event at his Ds’s school. So while I was out with him, I got a call asking me to bring him back and go drive a HS route. ugh . Not a bad route and the kids were not bad. Some days I dislike work, and some days its ok. I do like the paycheck- and remember I had to replace my stove last month. So a little extra cash is nice.
Got no crafting done yesterday, and honestly I was just plain tired. We have that tropical storm headed here shortly. I heard from my DSIL (west coast). She is fine but her sister (east florida coast) saw more damage than expected. Anyway this storm is headed my way, And I expected CJ is probably getting some rain right now.

good morning crafters, I BELIEVE I left off with telling you about our 60th anniversary celebration.
that night when I got up from the chair the back of my left knee was hurting some, all weekend I was hurting.
as the week or so went on I was needing my walker, seemed if I STEPPED with my left foot, then I HAD TO DRAG MY RIGHT FOOT UP.(DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME). so to the walk in we go,the female doctor was more concern with my past knee replacement then the pain. gave me a sleeve to wear.
SO about a week later I WAS HAVING PAIN AND OFF WE GO TO ER.hey took x-rays and forget what they call it.wanted to make sure it wasn't a clot or baker's cyst.
FINALLY MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY ORTHO,couldn't get in till the 24th of October. MY LEFT KNEE REPLACEMENT THE PLASTIC PART ARE STARTING TO WEAR OUT.I never knew a replacement could wear out, sticker shock.
I WILL SEE HIM IN January ,unless I AM IN PAIN AND TELL THE NURSES HE WANTS TO SEE ME NOW. IT HAS GOTTEN BETTER. HE SAID I DID NOT HAVE TO WEAR THE SLEEVE IF i don't want To.SOMETIMES I feel it makes it worse.
THEN MY CHIRO SAID MY RIGHT HIP IS GETTING BAD WITH ARTHRITIS AND DEGENERATION.I SHOULD LET MY ORTHO KNOW I DID HAVE A MRI AND SEE WHAT HE THINKS, I am a mess.
course all this time MY low back was killing me, so not much quilting got done,I CANCELED MY SPOT IN THE QUILT RETREAT.They did refund my money.
haven't been going to my sew days, think I AM AT THE POINT I can start going.
so today I HOPE TO GO TO MY MACHINE AND MAYBE SEW ON THE JOLLY SNOWFLAKE QUILT AND GET IT DONE THIS WEEKEND. phyl

Phyl, I am so very sorry to hear that you have been in such pain. I wonder if your lower back also bothering you is because of the problems with your knee and your hip. I hope that you can find a way to be more comfortable and that proper treatment can be found for you. Its no fun to be in pain. A shame you had to cancel attending the retreat- glad you got your money back though. Hope that you are feeling well enough soon and that you are able to work on the jolly snowflake quilt.
We have periods of somewhat heavy rain, and some of lighter rain. Ds is working a double this evening, so I pray he gets home ok and that its not raining too hard when he comes home. I am working on some crocheting , but might return to working on the ornament in a little bit.

Phyl, I'm sorry to hear that you've been having so much pain and I hope that something can be found that resolves this.
Ginny, I'm praying that you and your family remain safe and especially for your son as he travels home from work after working two long shifts. Crocheting for most people is very relaxing so I hope it does help.
I started a scarf for my grandson last evening in the alpine stitch which I've never done before and today ripped it out because it was curling too much. I restarted it with a larger hook and it looks great now. The stitch is kind of lost in the yarn color pattern which is camo but I'm going to continue with it.

Ruth, I learn from you and CJ all the time- I had never heard of the alpine stitch and did just check it out. Such a pretty stitch! The one site I saw that described how to make it had several pictures, and yes it does appear as though curling can be an issue. I am so glad that changing the hook size solved the problem. Camo yarn is such a hoot to work with! A few years ago I made a camo hat for my friends grandson. It does work up well and looks great. Are you using the traditional green/brown camo? The yarn I worked with was RH- in that traditional color scheme. Ruth, thanks for your prayers.
Ds made it home ok and is already back to work. Yes, I did get some crocheting in last night and hope to get to work on the ornament today. I am kind of off to an early start and should have some time before Dd and DGS come here (if they are coming today).
Think Nicole (tropical storm) is mostly gone, but they do say that I might get some rain after midnight. Then the cold front comes in, and tomorrow will be 20 degrees colder.

Ginny, I'm thankful to hear that your son made it home safely.I hope he doesn't have to work another double shift. I'm also thankful that the storm has passed you. I hope that CJ is alright and that the storm didn't impact her too much.
Ginny, yes the yarn I'm using is the traditional camo. It's Red Heart comfort yarn.I've had it awhile and don't even know if they still make the Comfort yarn. It's not the softest yarn in the world. The larger hook is for the foundation chain only and it's mostly a good idea to use a size bigger for your foundation row in all blankets and scarves unless you're doing the chainless foundation then you don't have to I don't think. That being said,I really never used a larger one on my foundation row until recently and still have , I think, only done it once previous to this. The alpine sitch has the added possibility of curling due to those dropped dc's that are done 2 rows back.If you don't pull your yarn up enough you can get serious curling. So now I'm trying to be careful that I am pulling it up high enough.
I interrupted working on that alpine scarf to make myself a pair of fingerless gloves because my hands get cold even in the house and I get nasty looking hands from what I'm pretty sure is Raynaud's even though I've never seen anyone else get these weird large bumps and sometimes little open areas on the parts affected.Anyway I picked up a partial skein of leftover yarn to use and amazingly it ran out exactly as I did the last stitch of the second glove leaving only just enough length to weave in.I sure love when it works out that way so that I don't have yet another very small amount of yarn left that isn't of much use for anything. That happens very rarely as the rest of you I'm sure have noticed when you crochet and Phyl when she knits.
Ginny, have a good visit with your dd and your precious little grandson
CJ, I hope you're having a good day and are doing something you enjoy. I hope the storm and rain are gone

Hello Phyl - I'm sorry to hear you've been having so much pain and that you missed the quilt retreat. I hope your doctors can do something to help you. Ginny - I'm glad you DS made it safely to work and home. Hope you are able to work on your ornament today. I'm glad you didn't get any heavy wind and rain. Ruth - I always check out the stitches you mention, so I can see what you are doing Hope you have been able to get some more of the scarf done. Sue - Hope you are doing well. We did have a lot of rain yesterday, but nothing too bad fortunately. Today was partly sunny and we might get some showers later tonight. It was around 70 today but the cold weather starts coming in tomorrow. Yesterday I finished piecing all the blocks for the Comet quilt after I had to rip apart half of them that I had pieced incorrectly I've figured out my layout so now I just need to sew the rows together. I'll be happy to be finished with this quilt top. I have so many ideas for other quilts I want to make. Take care everyone!

CJ,it's good to see you and also to hear that the weather there was not horrible. I can relate to you wanting to get done with your current quilt top in order to get to another that you have in mind. I do the same with my crochet projects. I have projects in mind and also see new ones online and want to get to them and can't wait to finish the one I'm currently working on. I have to stop myself from setting one aside which I've done way too often which is why I have so many unfinished projects. Most of the time it's because I have to stop in order to make something for the grandchildren. I really need to get to some things I want to make for me. I did get those gloves made last night but only because I really need those. Anyway, I'm sorry you had to rip out some of the blocks but it probably feels really to to have them made now and already have the layout in mind
Happy dreams everyone.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all having a nice day and nice weather. The cold weather is here and it's about 20 degrees colder than yesterday! Ruth - We think the same way about projects, I'm always thinking about another project to work on and wanting to be done with the one I'm doing I think the most fun for me is just looking at different patterns and fabric, not actually making a quilt. I finished the Comet quilt top this morning and I'm happy with how it came out. It measures 60x74. The borders are only 2 inches but were supposed to be 4 inches, but I didn't have enough of the white fabric to do that. I think it looks fine with the smaller borders. Now I can move on to making the flying geese unit for the monthly mystery quilt along, I'd like to get those done and be caught up. Hope you all get to do some crafting today. Take care!

Me Too!!!! Think we are all thinking about our next project even while working on one that is in progress. Heaven forbid we do not have a project to work on. Not like we do not have other craft materials to play with. But planning the next project - whatever that might be, is just fun to do.
CJ, the comet quilt might be one of my favorite quilts that you have made. Beautiful work, and it turned out so very well. Are you planning on finishing this quilt top? If not then the border size does not really matter. Hope you can catch up with your flying geese, nice not to get behind on projects.
Ruth - if i remember correctly I found the camo yarn a bit stiff to work with, it was not the softest yarn. I think that is really cool that you had just the right amount or yarn to make fingerless gloves for yourself. Have you ever mentioned to a doctor that this bothers you? I know in all but the most severe cases they really do not treat raynauds - but just try to keep the patient comfortable. At least that is my experience.
Think DD and I figured out most of Thanksgiving- menu and when each dish will be prepared. It was a good visit with her and DGS. Last night I got home a bit late (was with my friend and her husband), so I am a bit tired today. I am going to sit down and play with DMC colors and stitches for the ornament. Not particularly happy with the colors I am using at the moment and being that this is a test ornament, I can experiment a bit. Its colder today for sure, and even colder tomorrow. I even saw snow in the forecast for next weekend.
Stay warm. Have a good night G

It's always nice to know that fellow crafters think so much alike. I guess we're all thinking ahead to what's next on our list whether we have a physical list or just keep a list in mind of future projects
I love that comet quilt. I have to agree with Ginny 100% in thinking that this might be my favorite of all you've shown us, CJ. I know you 'll do a great job on the flying geese units too.
Well, Ginny, I did find out that the grocery store thatt we haven't been to in about 3 years has an offer for a free turkey if you spend$150 but they also have coupons for a Butterball for 89 cents a lb with a digital coupon. They also have ham for 89/lb. Seems strange to me that they have these items for that low a price but we're going there tomorrow so we'll see what happens. The reason we haven't been there in all that time is that this is usually the most expensive store so maybe they;re trying to get more customers. We will go ahead and have the turkey as soon as it thaws because we aren't planning on having an actual Thanksgiving dinner on that day.I hope they have sweet potatoes for a reasonable price as I love to have them with turkey.I'm so glad to hear that you and your dd were able to get the Thanksgiving meal planned
Yes I mentioned my hands to my doctor and when I saw her it was one of the days my hands were really purple ad she took pictures. She ordered nifedipine for me to take but it lowers your bp and mine is already low so I won't take it until absolutely necessary.
Today is make hats day so that's what I'm doing.
See you all tomorrow

Love the comet quilt!
This has been a very cold week! I guess winter is really here! Single digit lows and snow? Yeppers, it's winter.
