Ruth, with the turkey getting done that late, save a plate for me!!! Sounds Yummy. Glad you got only 4 inches of snow, instead of the 4 feet Buffalo is supposed to get.
CJ- have you joined the stash busters challenge group on FB? They are starting a new quilt in January, and it sounds like fun. Not like you have any fabric left over….you know.
Busy day, and boy its cold here. I will or hope to stop back in later on to see who has stopped in.

Hello Everyone Phyl - I'm glad the massage felt good and hope you are feeling better. I've turned down gifts that I won at quilt shows since I didn't have any need or use for them. Ruth - Hope you enjoyed your turkey dinner. Ginny - I'm glad you didn't get much snow, hope the streets are cleared quickly. I can't imagine how it is over in Buffalo! I haven't heard of that Facebook group, you'll have to let me know what type of quilt they are making. I made a test block today using the small strips I'd saved. It turned out alright, so I guess I'll go ahead and sew the rest of the strips together and put them in a quilt top. I'll take my time with these since I don't really enjoy them that much. I did start another quilt though I saw a pattern yesterday on a quilt blog and the fabric the quilter used in the quilt was similar to some fabric I've had for a few years and could never figure out how to use. I thought this easy pattern (snowball blocks and nine patch blocks) would work for this fabric with a background fabric. I tried out some blocks this morning and I liked them so I'm going to see how many more I can make with the fabric I have - then I'll figure out how large I can make it. Hope you all get to do some crafting today and this weekend. Take care!

I'm glad I don't live near Buffalo anymore and snow is one of the reasons. People look at these snow storms and think that Buffalo gets snow like this all the time. The eye doctor I saw mentioned snowy Buffalo.I do think it's strange that everytime they have a weather episode happen and the reporters on the scene show, for instance, the snow,It never looks like much.
CJ, I'm glad you tried that block and that you like it.The first one you mentioned it seems that you didn't care for much.
I've been doing very little today except watching people making edged weapons.Of course I crochet while watching. Being that we only get local channels they are all reruns but I like them anyway.
Ginny, I hope and pray that you can get some rest this weekend

CJ- here is the link for the pattern for the stash challenge www.bordercreekstation.com/the-stash-buster-challenge-2019.htm. I do not know if myself I will take that on but its always neat to see what other do. Jane told me that she did one of their blocks a few years ago, and made it into a smaller project. Perhaps I will do the same thing. So you started another quilt project? I am surprised! Ha ha ha What a great idea that you were able to get inspiration from another’s quilt and that you are happy with the initial results. Ruth what are you crocheting while watching edged weapons? Did you finish all your Christmas gifts and get the package mailed? Well certain areas can get lake effect snow, and Buffalo is one of them. My sister lives near Cleveland - another lake effect snow area and she saw none from this set of weather conditions. Been a sort of restful day, until the kitchen sink got plugged. (Courtesy of my son’s cooking expeditions). I hope to have it unplugged shortly, got a bunch of different ways to accomplish this and worst case scenario I can pick up a sink plunger tomorrow. My crafting today, thus far, has been to make acorns to decorate the Thanksgiving table with. I will go into my sewing room to put away my quilting implements, I will not have time to sew until Friday and with everyone coming here for Thanksgiving, I need that put away. Gonna go check my sink and see how that is progressing. I am waiting for the boiling water to work, ir not will try baking soda and vinegar again. Yes I have draino and a plumbers snake.

Hello Everyone Ruth - Hope you are enjoying watching shows and crocheting. I've thought the same thing as you about seeing pictures after a snowstorm and it never looks like much. I've checked out some videos from Buffalo and most of them show the streets are already clear. I'm sure back in the neighborhoods and side streets it's worse. Ginny - Hope you can get the sink unclogged. I'm glad the day was restful though. Thanks for the link to the quilt, but nothing came up on that page. I finished the quilt top I started yesterday. It turned out to be smaller than I thought it would be because I didn't really have enough of the floral fabric to make it larger and I wanted to put a nice large border on it using that fabric. It's a nice easy pattern and I only used two fabrics, so I'll have to think about making another one with a two fabric combination. The floral fabric is a silvery color with a hint of blue and rust, it mostly reads silvery-gray though, so it's a calm quilt. It finished at 48x48 and would nice to hang on the wall or put over a small table. I was able to put a nice 4 inch border on it to show off the fabric. I have some smaller pieces of fabric left so I'll use them up and make a few 16 patch or 9 patch blocks. If I have time tomorrow I'm going to try out the other pattern I was thinking about - star blocks. I have a red fabric and a white fabric that have a snowflake design on them and I'm going to use them to see if they look good in the star blocks. Take care everyone

Excellent news…the sink drain flows, the dishwasher is running. And I am waiting for the hot water for my herbal tea for the evening.

CJ- see if you can find the stash buster challenge on FB. My thought is that perhaps they will not put the actual pattern up until January. I did a quick internet search and they waited till January in previous years.

Ginny.I'm so glad that your sink drain unplugged!!! About 3 years ago (maybe more) ours plugged and the kitchen is over our bedroom so since the plug was between the bedroom and where the drain leaves the house to go to the septic tank,dh had to make a hole in the bedroom wall to acess the pipe and put a snake through it. That did the trick. Then of course was the wall repair. We can't really put chemicals into our drains because of the septic tank so hot water and the vinegar and baking soda method have to be it.
CJ,the red fabric with the white that has snowflakes sounds like a perfect combo for this time of year.I'm glad you liked the top you made and it sounds like a great size
Ginny, I was working on a hat while watching Forged in Fire.Since I've seen all of them before I don't have to really pay attention so I mainly watch the evaluations of the contestants work and the tests they put the weapons through.
Today I ripped out a scarf I started last week and restarted using a different stitch pattern. The other was a one sided design which I don't really like for scarves.I'm seriously thinking of the knitted cable scarf that I mentioned to Phyl the pattern that was sent to me by her friend from the old WW board but I probably will just do a crochet cable. It's faster.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's a beautiful sunny day here, but the temps are only in the 30s! That's cold for this area. Ginny - I'm happy to hear that your drain is unclogged. Hope you enjoyed your tea Ruth - Sorry you had to rip out a scarf. I hope you can pick another stitch pattern to use Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. I tested out the star blocks this morning and made a 12 inch, 8 inch, 6 inch and 4 inch one. I decided to make more of the 12 inch ones for a quilt that I have some other fabric I think will go with the red and white snowflake fabric. The little 4 inch stars are cute, but they are tough to make. The 6 inch wasn't too bad and the 8 inch was pretty easy like the 12 inch. I also have some other Christmas-type fabric pulled and have part of an idea for using it. So I'll have two Christmas quilts to work on now. Here are some pictures of the star blocks with the different sizes, the 12 inch block with a 6 inch star laying in the middle (I had an idea to make some blocks like this but I think different colors in the middle might be better), and the quilt top I finished yesterday with a close-up of the fabric. This quilt would look pretty hanging on a wall, or on a table, in someone's house who likes all the gray colors that have been so popular. Hope you all get to do some crafting today. Take care

CJ, the star blocks in the red and white are just as beautiful as I thought they would be. Amazing work!! I love the one with the smaller block in the middle. I'd love to see how it looks with another color as you suggested. I do really like all red and white though. I do think that a Christmas green would be nice in the middle or a medium blue maybe.
I've been cooking and baking again today. Made a soup with turkey leftovers after cooking the bones. It's an interesting soup with ingredients suggested by dh...Turkey and the broth, cheese powder, all the usual seasonings, a little milk, potatoes, and frozen mixed veggies since we don't have any carrots or celery. Strange as it sounds it's actually delicious. I was afraid to taste it.Then made apple crisp and some cornbread to go with chili I'm going to make tomorrow and I imagine it will go well with this soup too. We're out of bread so I'll make some tomorrow in case we want regular bread too.
Crocheting this evening.

Ruth Well I will be over. The soup sounds really good, I use frozen mixed veggies all the time for soup, and it works well. I hope you figured out the which scarf you are going to make, I think you will end up with the crochet cable, its something you are more comfortable with. Unfortunately that sounds like quite a process that DH had to go through to clear your kitchen drain a few years ago. I explained to DS what I had to go through last night and hope that he does not bless me with another plugged sink like that again..
CJ- your blocks are so pretty! Like Ruth, I think I like the star in a star block, I like it with the red and white for both inner and outer blocks…might vary it for other blocks if you were going to introduce different colors into the quilt. I think the red white color combination is very striking. And you are right the grey and white quilt is pretty with all the grey used in decor these days, it would also be nice to use as a throw on a grey couch.
Well ended up at church much longer than I thought I would be. I did once I got home, finally finish cutting the carpet tiles to complete the installation that I started last January/February. I know it sounds like I was being so lazy, but these smaller pieces with lots of cut outs are a pain. But they are all done now. As Thanksgiving is at my house this year, I thought that the room should look nice. It was nice working in the family room, the stove was going and the tree was on.
Think I will crochet awhile. G

Ginny,it sounds like you had a great and productive day both getting to church and then home and finishing the tiles.Yes those last pieces that have to be fitted into place really are a pain in the neck and nerve wracking too since the concern is cutting them to the right size.I remember you starting the carpet tiles but I didn't remember that you hadn't completed the job yet.I'm glad that burner you had put in the family room is keeping you nice and warm while working. I remember that you put up your tree early and it sounds like you have it up already this year too. After working on the carpet tiles did you sit and have a nice cup of hot chocolate. Nothing goes better with a nice warm cozy room and Christmas tree than a good cup of hot chocolate
I am going to do a cable crochet scarf next but today I again ripped out the scarf I was working on and started a different one. It's from a youtube video and is called tilted scales stitch. I started a blanket in this stitch several months ago but haven't worked on it since I had all these other things I needed to make first.
