Good morning all- Well I am not glad that Christmas is over but I am glad to have a day off. I have no specific plans for the day other than some crafting and some house cleaning. My house cleaning will be wiping down surfaces- just precautionary. This flu is a nasty one, its what my oldest daughter and her whole family had. I am taking my vitamins and will mask up when DS is near. As I live in a raised ranch and his bedroom is downstairs (with a bathroom) so we can live without really seeing each other. I hope he can get to the doctor, or get a telehealth visit. Unfortunately makes sense that tamiflu is in short supply. I hope that if DS is able to get it. I did just read on AARPs article about flu prevention ( not a big fan of AARP but the article was decent) about getting a tamiflu prescription filled before flu season starts and keeping it on hand. Makes total sense for a senior.
Gotta decide what to work on today. Hmmmm….think I will work on a Christmas quilt, just because I have the fabric out. Its one of those 3 yard quilts. My cats seem happy to have me home. They can tell from how I start my day if i have a lot to do or if I am just going to be here.
BBL. Stay warm!! Ginny

Well I decided to put a binding on a quilt that needed one. Binding is cut and ironed…should have it on in a little while.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well and had a good day Ginny - Nice to hear you enjoyed a day off. Hope you can get your binding on your quilt I finished putting the binding on the small quilted pieces today, so those are done. Most of them are really strange looking since I was just using up fabrics and extra blocks I was able to use up some binding strips I'd already made for other projects and had extra, so that was nice. I'm going to try not to make any of those in the future since it's a lot of work with the quilting and binding just to end up with not very pretty quilted pieces. I'm hoping to be a bit more focused this coming year, we'll see how that goes The temperatures were a bit higher today which is nice, I'm looking forward to the end of the week when they really rise. Hope your weather isn't too bad. Take care everyone!

I've been busy cooking, baking, and cleaning so haven't got to my laptop or to crocheting until now. My kitchen floor was in serious need of a washing. I had intentions of doing a lot more work but time went by and I did all I could for today.
Ginny, I'm glad you have a day off also. I hope you were able to rest and that you enjoyed working on the quilt.
CJ, I hope you're having a good day also.

Do either of you have an instant pot? DD gave me a 6 qt for Christmas, and honestly, I cannot see me using it much, at least not that size.DS hardly eats with me, so I am cooking for myself when I do cook. I am thinking that a 3 qt model is much more practical for me…even though I do not really want one. I am trying hard to find a practical reason to want one, if you know what I mean.

I have one. It's a 5 qt and I hardly ever use it except to cook dry beans but it takes forever.I don't know if I just got a bad one or what. It makes great boiled eggs but I know you don't like boiled eggs plus It's not very sensible to make one or two boiled eggs in a fairly large instant pot. My son and his family have a couple of them and use them all the time but there's 8 of them living at home and 10 when they're all together so it works for them.I think an air fryer is much more useful but I think you already have access to one of those.I used my air fryer today to make biscuits and walnut bars.

Thanks Ruth, I was hoping you would check in. They do make a 3 qt and I was able to find a store that has them in stock. I think I know where DD found this and if I get the 3 qt, it will be considerably more than she paid for the 6 qt. You are right, I do not eat eggs by themselves. Think Dd is remembering the times (which were many) in which I had 2 crock pots going and a bread machine. Those days are long gone and now I am cooking largely for myself. I have leftovers from the ham I made Christmas (gave some ham to both DD’s) but still have a ton of ham left over. So I will freeze some, make some soup (which will last me for well over a week, so I will have to freeze some soup). I felt bad asking Dd if the instant pot could be returned, but I will not use it because its just too large. Its a whole different world cooking for one.
I got the binding clipped into place and will get to sewing it on shortly. Today I am supposed to attend a Christmas get together with the people I had over for Thanksgiving ( Dh’s family). Not sure if I will attend as my stomach is a bit strange and I wonder if I am getting the stomach bug that is going around.

Hello Everyone Ginny - I've never had an instant pot. Since it's just me to cook for I know I wouldn't get any use out of it. Hope you can get the smaller one if you still want to have it Ruth - Sorry you lost your message and that your laptop is acting up. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. I went out to do some shopping this morning, so I didn't get to do any quilting today. I did go to JoAnns to pick up a few things, and found what I was looking for. The weather is getting milder here this week, so that's nice too. Take care

CJ,I'm glad you were able to find what you needed at Joann's.And it's great that you got your errands done.
Ginny, what I said in the message I lost was that I don't really think you'd get much use out of an instant pot. You could look up some recipes and see if there are things you would even use it for. As I said,I rarely use mine and if it was only me I'd undoubtedly never use it.I have another friend who lost her husband a few years ago and she bought an instant pot last year then returned it because she realized it was useless for her. One thing I was disappointed in about it is that it supposedly cuts your cooking time way down. I haven't found that to be the case. Before it even starts cooking it has to heat the water enough to make the steam for the pressure it needs and that takes at least 15 minutes. When you make eggs, for instance, the eggs themselves take 2 or 3 minutes but the time before they even start is that 15-20.And you can do eggs in the air fryer faster. I haven't tried that yet though.Oh and also if you aren't sure how long to cook something and want to test an ingredients...say carrots for example or those dried beans I mentioned, you have to turn off the pot and get all the steam out before the lid can be removed and if they aren't done you have to heat it to pressure again to continue.

Good morning,
CJ, so glad that Joanns had what you were looking for! Normally I find them pretty well stocked, with the exception of some yarns. After a big yarn sale sometimes they are out of certain colors. You picked a nice day to go out with milder weather. The stores were probably not as crazy, waiting a full day after December 26 when I figure that most stores were like a zoo. And believe me, i hear you about the issues with cooking for one. Its not that it is so hard, but some of those convenience devices are totally not needed. I find I used a George Forman grill (which was my mom’s) and my small crockpot (which I had bought for her) or just the traditional cooking methods.
I do have ham leftover from Christmas, and will be heading out this am to get some navy beans to make another pot of bean soup. I do enjoy that but will be eating bean soup for a long time. And I will make the soup in my trusted crock pot.
Ruth, what a bummer that your long response got dropped. I have had that happen to me and its just so frustrating. As I look at the instant pot in my closet, I realize I will not use it. First off its a large unit, (6 qt) and I do not want to give up the storage space to keep it. I got into a somewhat nasty texting conversation yesterday where everything I said to Dd#1 was misinterpreted. I did inform her that the gift was a lovely idea but a 6 qt instant pot was too large for me, and I tried to describe to her how my cooking has changed in the past 4 years. (She is married 12 years now and remembers the days of 2 crock pots and a bread machine going to make dinner). Since Dd#2 got married (4 years)I largely cook only for myself. Ds might eat something I make, and he might not. Because of that unpredictability I might make something that he will eat, but let him know when that is available. There are some days I can sort of predict when he will join me. Many times we eat together, but he eats something he has prepared, while I eat what I have made. Anyway, thanks for your input on the instant pot. Think I will continue the search for a 3 qt at a reasonable price and ask Dd to return it. I do not want the thing, but am sticking with the idea of owning one just to shut Dd up.
I stayed home yesterday. Dd#1 who chose not to believe that I was not feeling well and kind of threw that in my face while we were texting about instant pot and this Christmas gathering of my husbands family. (I attend out of respect for my Dh, really struggle with my brother in law….whose house it was at). I did take a nap yesterday mid morning, how many times do you hear me speak about taking a nap? Never.. I was not feeling 100% and knew it. I made a desert for the get together, and drove it to Dd#1 house, leaving it on her car (had no physical contact with anyone). I felt better as the day went on. Anyway the report I got from Dd#1 was that my niece greeted everyone at the door wearing a surgical mask. What the heck- if you are that paranoid about visitors then wait till spring and have the gathering outside. Ends up another person chose to stay home, (who was afraid of getting sick, I was afraid of transmitting whatever I had). So when Dd contacted me later, I was a hero for staying home. Ha ha ha.
I did get that binding attached and I am very happy I did. It just looks better a finished project. I got it in my head to make a table topper for the dining room table. I was looking for the fabric for the binding and found some smaller quantities of fabrics that I really like that I really think would make an adorable topper. I will have to figure out how I want to use the fabrics, the project I want to make calls for a charm pack. I do not have the number of different fabrics to use in a charm pack but have already sort of figured out how I will use those that I have. It should be a simple and easy project, CJ would make it in a day….will probably take me a few days .

I just saw the cutest thing and I immediately thought of Ginny. I got an email from Jacqueline Steves about a mini wall hanging (13 1/2" square} called You and Me and a Cup of Tea. I know you drink tea, Ginny. It has Valentine Day fabrics and heart shaped flowers that are in a tea cup. It's so pretty.m
I've been moving yarn around today. I had to get boxes of yarn out of my living room because the room looked like a hoarder's room and also the hallway outside my craft room was pretty much impassable because of yarn there. I put it in my craft room and still have room to walk in there because I also organized that yarn a little bit. Have I mentioned that I have way too much yarn...hahahaha.
Ginny, I'm sorry that your dd was so upset about you not wanting to keep the huge instant pot. For her family it would be ok but for one person...not so much although you could make a huge pot of bean soup in that.
Now that I'm done for today on organizing (and also make a pot of soup (on the stove not instant pot) I'm trying to finish a couple things. I started paw patrol hats which have a lot of pieced to add.I really dislike having to sew pieces on so I don't know what I was thinking but the hat parts and pieces are done and just need that sewing on.
I hope you both are having a great day.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and having nice weather. It was up around 50 today. I never though I'd think 50 degrees was warm, but it sure is after this past weekend. Ruth - Hope you are well. We were posting together I'm glad you were able to get some yarn moving around today Ginny - I hope you feel better soon. I think it's nice when people who aren't feeling well don't go around others now that the types of viruses we have are so serious and can be life-threatening. It's not like the "old days" of going somewhere when you have the sniffles I understand about not needing that large instant pot and that you probably won't use it. I always wish I'd use my crockpot more, but it's really just too easy to heat up something in the microwave or oven and I rarely cook anything more than that for just one person. I think it's difficult for people to understand how it is cooking for one when they haven't done it I bought the ingredients for the Gold Rush Brownies yesterday. After you mentioned them I looked up the recipe and it looks so easy and good. I hope to make them in a few days. I'm glad you were able to get your binding on your project and hope you can get the table topper made. I really don't make things in one day Mostly I do my fabric cutting and preparation one day and then piecing another day. It's only every once in a while I spend the whole day working on something I've been thinking about what type of Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) and maybe other quilts (like the Temperature one) that I want to work on in 2023. I made a list of all the possible choices for the RSC and was thinking that it might be nice to do a row by row sampler quilt. There are 8 colors I'll use during the year, so I could make 8 different quilt blocks (one in each color) and set them in rows. Then I'd have just one quilt at the end of the year instead of 3 or 4. I've been searching out pictures and have found a few that give me a good idea which way to go, so I just need to chosemy blocks. I'm thinking of doing mostly traditional ones like churn dash, shoofly, ohio star, sawtooth star, pinwheel, etc. I also realized yesterday that I do not have enough of the fabric I chose for the Temperature quilt. I only had fat quarters of each fabric and can get 60 or so pieces out of the fat quarter. If I have more than 60 days with temperatures (either high or low) in one range, i.e., like the 70s, then I'll run out. I checked on Amazon and was fortunate to find the same set of fat quarters, so I ordered several more sets and should be O.K. if I get them. O.K., here's the latest "crazy" thing I want to do in 2023 I love these little Bitty House blocks and I'm thinking about making one for each day of the year - 365 houses. I made a test block this morning and it goes together so quickly. I think it would be even quicker if I already had fabrics cut out for the different parts - sky, roof, sides of house and house. I was thinking I could kind of do it as a weather quilt using blue sky fabric for sunny skies, gray sky fabric for rainy days, and white sky fabric for snowy days. I could just standardize the sides of the house with a white and/or cream fabric. And I could even use a color coded fabric selection for the roofs and house if I wanted to make it a combined temperature quilt. I just need to think about it for a bit and be ready to start this weekend. Here's a link to information about making the house block: www.quiltingdaily.com/qm-bitty-blocks-home-sweet-home-quilty-pleasures-blog/Here's another sew along I'm thinking about doing in 2023: corianderquilts.com/2023-sew-along-information/Take care everyone
