Ruth, I think that the Vietnam vets will take the fabrics that I do not use. Going to lay them out, look at a pattern or two or three and see what my imagination provides to make a quilt. Google civil war fabrics. I thought that Hancock fabrics had a particularly nice assortment on their web site.
CJ- hope you had a great day!

www.hancocks-paducah.com/FABRICS/Reproduction-Fabrics?page=1What I liked about these is the picture runs the gamut of colors… think the Moda Kansas troubles fabric line is also civil war reproduction. So pretty and for the smaller prints I really love civil war reproduction fabrics. Thanks CJ for providing the links to the pretty fabrics you have been looking at.

I thank you both for posting links to those fabrics. Most are beautiful although the last link's fabric(the bottom one CJ posted) that is all individual fabric except for that one that is a bundle are kind of dark and dreary looking but I'm sure in a quilt when they are with other fabrics the whole thing together is beautiful. I see what you mean CJ about darks and lights. I've heard you had to use those but me, personally, I really love that block and as you said, who cares what the "rules" are. I think we should make what makes us happy.
I mostly spent the day crocheting and again looked at patterns and videos. I don't know why I do that when I already have probably thousands bookmarked.
Ginny, that's a great idea to donate to Vietnam vets if there's fabric you don't care for or if some don't look good to you after you have it put together. I wish donating to veterans was an option here.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having good weather. It's in the 40s here, but no rain. Ginny - Hope you've been able to work on your PMQ quilt. How big is the top going to be? Ruth - We can never look at too many videos and patterns I agree with you that some of those fabrics are dark and dreary. There are some prints that I don't care for either. But I do like some of the collections. I'm going to try to use the blues/creams-tans from Heartspun quilts for my basket blocks. I made the first block using those fabrics and I think it looks good. This morning I pieced two more months on my Temperature quilt so I have January-August done. I'm going to try to get the last four months done this weekend. It's fun to see the colors spread around and grouped together. I kind of doubt some of the temperatures I have are correct because there are a few where the high and low temperatures were within the same range, i.e. high in the 70s, low in the 70s. But what I'm making is good enough for me. Hope you all get to do some crafting today and that you have a good weekend

CJ, yes that blue and cream color block is beautiful so I agree that that's what you should use. I don't know if I've ever really noticed basket blocks before but now that I see them I like them a lot. Here it's in low 30's today but the wind is blowing pretty hard as it also did yesterday and causing ground blizzard. The only people that are happy with this weather are the plowing company owner because the wind makes drifts in the streets and then have to be plowed.
Ginny, I hope you're having a good day. I'm pretty sure you're keeping busy because you mostly always are busy.
Dh and I have been cooking so now I'm planning on crocheting and watching my favorite programs.

Just a quick hello- its been a crazy day.
Ruth, hope you did get that crochet time in and got to see a favorite t=show on TV.
CJ the temperature quilt is coming along well!! And I like the yellow and blue basket block. Pretty and very cheerful.
I spent a lot of time today duplicating some documents my Dh put together, and hit some computer problems in the process. Had practice this evening at church. It feels good to be home and what I hope is a quiet weekend.

This is not fair. Just saw this adorable pattern for a really cute scrappy quilt and I have all the fabric I would need. Ugh. Someone please pull me out of this rabbit hole.

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today and having good weather. It's sunny and in the mid-50s here, really nice January weather. Ruth - Hope you are enjoying some good meals from the cooking you and your DH did. Ginny - Hope you enjoy a relaxing weekend. Sorry, I can't help you - I think you should pull out those fabrics you have and start on that quilt I've made a few blocks from patterns by "A Quilting Life" and she designs some pretty quilts. I finished the Temperature Quilt top today, it finished at 48x67. I'm so happy to have it done since I've wanted to make one of these for many years. Some of the piecing is a bit off making it a bit puffy, but if the top ever gets quilted hopefully that would work out of it. There are 744 pieces in the fabrics that stand for the high and low temperatures each day. I was thinking that for the backing it would be fun to do the top half with sky/clouds and the bottom half with night sky fabric. I need a break from making quilts for a few days. I'll probably clean my sewing machine and put in a new needle and new rotary cutter. I also have some storage containers that I want to go through. I never look in them so I either don't need what is in them, or what is in them should be stored somewhere else Take care everyone!

Sorry Ginny, I can't help either. That quilt is so pretty and needs you to make it.
CJ, well it's 9 degrees here right now and has been snowing all night and all of today. Weather forecast last night said 2 inches. Now it's 10 inches predicted. You temp quilt came out so nice. It's beautiful.
I finished the cabbage patch stitch blanket yesterday and last evening started what the designer calls a car seat size baby blanket. I'm doing a practice one and will work on how to make this larger so I can do it again

Wow! CJ, the temperature quilt is adorable - I love the symmetry of it, the purples being for the most part on the ends and the oranges and yellows in the middle. Did you enjoy making it? If there is any puffiness in the quilt we won’t judge you on that, it’s just a unique and I am glad you got the opportunity to make it. Agree a day or so or more off might be good for you…until your machine calls your name once again.
Ruth, so you are getting the winter that I am not. Hope that you can stay nice and comfy and have no need to venture out in the cold or snow. 10 inches is a lot of snow. Congrats on completing the cabbage patch stitch blanket! Think a car seat sized baby blanket is a great idea, as a normal afghan would probably be too large and it sure would be nice to have something that precisely fits a car seat. Sounds like a good project.
Ugh….so you are both encouraging me to make this project. Gosh it’s cute….she will be posting the directions next weekend. So I will keep my eyes open for them then. Had a moment of complete frustration, I saw an adorable Christmas tree ornament (its quilted) in a magazine, and they say that the tutorial is on their web site. Well, I was not going to search for hours to locate them and emailed the designer. Honestly I am not optimistic about her getting back to me.
Dd was here for awhile and I did some housework today- and laundry. It made it so over 50 today. What kind of winter is this?

Ginny, I hope you'll be able to find the pattern for the ornament. Hopefully that designer will get back to you.
Well the official low was -12 but my thermometer says it got down to -24. We have a lot of snow also. I'm not sure how much
I finished the first panel of the car seat blanket. It's one of the heart panels. now I'm on the section with the word Hugs in the bobble stitches. The designer of this pattern is, I think, you and inexperienced because in looking at both the video and written patterns there were comments telling her about mistakes which she then fixed so while I'm using it it's good. The only thing I had to figure out is if you were supposed to count the turning chain as a stitch.Since she fixed all those mistakes before I even saw the pattern it worked well for me

The temperature quilt is fascinating! I hadn't seen one before. (I stopped reading quilting magazines about ten years ago, so I'm no longer up to date with what's going on in the quilting world. Fabric is still an addictive problem and has been most of my life!)
Today is bright and sunny, but the high today is only -3. I'm sure it's slightly colder here. The elevation is about 500 feet higher than it is in town. I did some grocery shopping on Thursday because I knew the snow and cold was headed this way. I think we had at least a foot of snow. The supermarket was filled with people doing the same thing!

Hello Ginny - Hope you can get the instructions for the ornament. It looks like we're both going to get some cold winter weather later this week. Ruth - I bet that heart panel is pretty. Hope you are staying warm and safe inside. Sue - I'm glad you were able to get your groceries before the snow and hope you are staying safe. Phyl - Hope you are well. Thanks for your kind words on my Temperature Quilt. I'm really pleased with it and find it fascinating to look at and analyze. This was for 2017 and I can see it wasn't a very hot summer since there were only a few 90 degree days (red), and not a single 100 degree day. I cleaned my sewing machine today and put on a new needle. I looked in those containers I thought I'd go through but I'm not motivated to do that, so I put them away again One of them has hand quilting supplies in it, so I just need to put them in the larger container where I keep my hand quilting things. The other container has binding supplies - needles and thread that I thought I would use to do hand binding. But I'm finding that for the majority of the quilts I machine quilt, I prefer to do the binding by machine. So I'll have to figure out if I want to keep those separate or not. I'm also hoping to organize where I keep my ongoing projects. I think I have 6 ongoing projects right now. Most of them are monthly, except for the Pat Sloan quilt along which is weekly. When I start seeing everything stacked up I get antsy wanting to straighten them out Take care

Sue, it's good to see you. I'm glad you were able to get out and replenish supplies before the cold and snow.Did you get your scarf done you told us about last time you were here?
CJ, well I guess you didn't find any long lost treasures while just taking a look into those bins but at least you found some supplies. I'm still thinking about how you managed to finish a whole years temperature quilt in that short amount of time.Even though it was a past year you still had a lot to do.
Ginny, I guess you're having a busy day and I hope it was/is a fun busy.
I'm looking at the two panels I've completed on the car seat blanket and can't believe I actually did this. I've never made bobbles into words before. there are 4 panels, two with hearts, one that says love and another that says hugs. I have a heart panel and the hugs panel done and probably will get the other heart part done this evening but I'm not sure. The panels are made with each panel being worked from the other so there is no sewing together which I'm happy about. Now that I've seen that I can do it I can make the "Jesus loves me" blanket. One thing I'll change is to use a larger hook. The designer suggested a G hook to keep the bobbles tighter but it really made it a little too dense so I'm going to do another practice one or maybe just a swatch with an I hook to see how it comes out. I'd like a little more drape
Happy dreams to all
