Happy Monday!!!
Ruth, glad you checked in last night….funny with these posts, how easy it is for me to write something that can be misinterpreted. I find the “ginny pattern” repetitive - and it is- but knew that you were chatting about the tipped squares pattern. Dd has relied upon her PA friend for many different things and I know she was awfully sick for a few weeks, taking medical advice whenever she could. Perhaps this particular specialist that Dd just saw is not that familiar with this particular issue. It’s related to long covid, something no one knew anything about just 3 years ago. Hope you can get your errands done safely and that weather cooperates.
Speaking of weather it’s supposed to be a bit of a wild week here. 2 days of rain, snow…spread through the week. Oh well, its been a mild winter thus far.
See ya later Ginny

I went back and read the part on the blanket again last night before I pushed the send button and realized what you were saying and intended to erase that part but got distracted. It's entirely possible that the doctor your dd recently saw is not up on long covid. As you said, it's such a new thing that many care givers have not had the chance to find out all the details they need to know when they have a patient like your dd.I guess I was being a little negative but I've encountered a lot of PA' and would say that at least half of them were not educated well enough at all to be acting as a doctor.Even the nurse practitioners do not have much medical training and they go through a master's degree program if I'm not mistaken. It's not medical school and they don't have to work under a "real" doctor like PA's are SUPPOSED to do.And I would think that if a doctor is not up to date on things like long covid they should tell the patient that and suggest another doctor. No one is perfect though.

Hello Ginny - Hope your weather this week isn't too bad Ruth - Hope you are working on a fun project today Phyl and Sue - Hello, hope you are well and can check in sometime It's cold and windy here today, but the rain from yesterday is gone. We must have gotten quite a bit of rain since my sump pump drain in the yard was filled to the top with water. I worked on a small tabletopper this morning. It's alright, but didn't turn out exactly like I thought. Sometimes you just never know until you put the fabrics together in a quilt. I think this one would be good to hand quilt, so I'll add it to that group. I'm also thinking about participating in a quilt along that started last week. It's a Stay at Home Round Robin quilt along. You pick what you want for your center block and then for the next 6 weeks a quilt blogger gives you a block that you and a row around your center piece. Here's information on the quilt along and the first round, which is a spool block: quiltinggail.com/2022/12/30/announcing-sahrr-2023/quiltinggail.com/ - round 1 I'm going to try using a panel for my center and make my spool blocks 6 inches instead of the small 3 inch ones. I'll try this week out and see if I like it. If I don't at least I'll have bordered a panel and can stop. I have so many "orphan" blocks from things I've tested that I'm sure I could find something else to use if I don't like the first panel. Take care everyone

Hey Ruth, hope you are not beating yourself up over what sounds like was a misinterpretation on my part. It’s so darned easy to quickly send a post out- which I do a lot- and then find out at a later time that it can easily be misinterpreted. Regarding that specialist that Dd saw- well perhaps he is really good with normal issues in that specialty but not the twist of long covid. I know that our primary care doctor took a few days to find a good specialist for Dd who is familiar with long covid. Dd and I figured he was doing his homework- to find the best specialist without making her drive several counties away. Knowing that the specialists he usually recommends are top notch we figure that this particular person must be excellent. (Again going back to that this doctor has a bit of a waiting list to get in to see). Dd actually investigated becoming a PA- but it entailed more school than she was willing to go for. When Ds was a young infant he required emergency surgery, and we did have to leave the county to get care in that specialty. At that time we met our first PA- who was an absolute saint- within 3 hours of arriving at that hospital they had Ds triaged, tests run and ready for the procedure he needed. That PA was excellent and followed us and Ds through the entire process. It seemed nothing short of a miracle. But yes you are right, no one is perfect. And it takes a special doctor to look at a situation and sense that perhaps this particular case does not fit the text book definition and that its time for a specialist or second opinion.
CJ- so I gather you are avoiding all the fun weather forecast for me in 2 days. Sorry you got so much rain, and I hope your house has stayed nice and dry. Sorry to learn that your table topper did not quite work out like you wanted. Yes that sure does happen but I am glad you can salvage the project by hand quilting that. The SHRR sounds like a fun project! I am sure you will have fun with it, and it does seem neat that there is so much variation in the different contributors. Think it’s a great idea to keep your options open, that if you are not thrilled with the bordered panel look that you can move on to an orphan block.
A busy day with little ones today. We got a slushy snow, which was not too bad to clear. Tomorrow will be busy as I have little ones and then want to get to pick up a few items as we are in for some snow Wednesday. Once I see a scheduled time to start, I could also get to the store Wednesday morning early. I do not need much from the store.
Phyl and Sue, hope that you both stop in to visit with us this week.

Ginny,I'm sure there are excellent PA's. I just haven't run into any here.Oh, you mentioning your son having emergency surgery when an infant did remind me that one that dh saw here in the ER seemed very good.Another that works in the ER here was not good at all and he was one of those people that thought he knew everything and was not at all open to new info. To me that's dangerous. I also saw one when I was referred to Urology way back in 2010. Even the people that worked there made remarks about him and his lack of skills. So I didn't mean to judge your dd's friend. I just thought that this doctor had impressed her when maybe he didn't warrant having ppl impressed by him but to be fair maybe he was excellent at what he does know. Yes stock up for bad weather. Anymore we don't know what to expect in a storm.
Here all this week is supposed to be in 20's with one day that will hit 32 then after that, all downhill. High of only up to the teens every day and one night back to minus 23 but last time they said that which was last month, it got down to minus 42.
I'm still working on the same two blankets. On the cabbage patch I had to rip out a lot of rows late last evening because of a mistake way back that really stood out made the sides uneven.
CJ, that does sound like a lot of fun having a block from a different person each month. There may be some you don't care for but with your knowledge and expertise in creating blocks I'm sure you'll do a great job subsituting your own for any you don't like. In the crochet groups they do that with afghan blocks.I've never participated in any because I don't like putting blocks together. And I'm sorry you didn't really like the table topper you made but it sounds like you already have a plan for it.

Ruth, I absolutely never ever thought that you judged DD’s friend. I suppose it is something that cannot be taught, the ability to really sense when a diagnosis is correct or when it’s time to investigate more. I know DD’s friend means well and in the past has provided good input for her. Like any field, there are good and bad and even the good can have a bad day and make a mistake. Sorry about the cabbage patch blanket, hope that you did not have to rip out too many rows.
Weather prognosticators- well they try and seem to be at their best when the weather has already arrived and all they need to do is try to explain the duration of an event. Right now they are predicting either 1-3 or 3-6 inches of snow. I will head to the store early tomorrow am, and do not care if I drive home from the store in a little bit of snow.
I went to bed pretty early last night and while I did not sleep great, I slept well enough.
CJ- hope you slept well last night!!

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well today and your weather is alright. It was sunny here today, but cold. Looks like tomorrow will be rain all day, but we're missing the snow to the north and west. Ginny - Hope you don't get too much snow and don't have any problems from it and you can get your groceries in the morning. I went out this morning for groceries and to run a few errands. I slept terrible last night. It was probably 1:00 or later before I sort of went to sleep, but it was restless for a few hours. I think I finally got about 3 hours or so before I had to get up since I went out today. I never sleep well when I'm going out the next day. Ruth - Hope your blankets are coming along and you make out alright in the cold weather. I made some of the spool blocks yesterday but when I laid them out beside the panel, I don't like the way they look. So I'm scrapping the panel idea. I may still do this quilt along if I can find a finished 6.5 inch block in my stash of orphan blocks that I want to use. Otherwise I'll forget about this quilt along. I did see another yearly quilt along that looks interesting. There are 12 blocks, one a month, and the patterns are all for basket blocks. I've never done a basket quilt, so this might be fun. I like that she has some different layout options and also shows three different colorways and two sizes of blocks. It would be fun to use my Civil War Reproduction fabrics for this. Here's a link to her video for block one and info on the quilt along: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdyEuj1Ovz0Take care everyone.

Well I came home to find a large shopping bag of fabric at my house, donated to me by the woman who used to own the sewing shop in town. Its only a few different fabrics, and honestly most of them I do not really like but two or three I can see me using…and it was so very kind of her to give me those fabrics. Will have to sift through my patterns and see what I might want to use t hem in, but I already have ideas.
We are not supposed to get a ton of snow, but many schools are closing anyway. Think my daughters will not have to go in to work because of the storm. I am happy for them. Ds will have to go to work, but I am praying that it changes over to rain when he has to come home.

CJ, I'm glad you found out in the beginning that you might not want to do that particular quilt. It's horrible when a person gets half way through then realizes they don't like what they have been making.. And right away you found another that you like so far. I'm glad the snow stayed away from you.
Ginny, Well your dd's will have an unexpected day to relax and, if needed, get some things done that they wouldn't get to otherwise. I'm sorry that your son has a job where he has to go to work regardless of weather or holidays. I know how that is. It's too bad that some of that fabric is some that you don't like. Will you donate it somewhere?
I''ve had a busy day cooking and organizing. I have a cupboard that was made very strangely and hides a storage space and a drawer. The builders took a kitchen cabinet and put a counter on it that they made large enough to make a "sit at the bar" type arrangement and it overlaps so far that those spaces are hidden.. I looked in that hidden cabinet this morning and realized I had very little in it so went through other cabinets and took out things that I haven't used in years and put them in that hidden space. Now I have much more space for the things I use all the time and a nicer looking area. We didn't go out today either so tomorrow will probably be the day and CJ, I don't sleep well either when I have to go out the next day so I understand fully how that is
It's nearly 6 now and I'll spend the rest of the day crocheting. My 10 year old grandaughter sent me an email yesterday with a picture of crochet slippers she made for herself and she did an amazing job. I can't take credit for her crocheting because I wasn't the one that taught her. I did teach two of her older sisters and her oldest brother.

Well, Ruth, perhaps you could not take credit for teaching your granddaughter to crochet but I am very sure that you were an inspiration to her! Had you not provided that example for her she never would have picked up a hook and attempted to crochet. That is so heartwarming that she made t hose slippers and sent a picture to you!! Hope that this is something that she continues to do. During those difficult teen years it’s nice to be able to make something for yourself- it’s a stress reliever and also useful. My Dd (#1) has started a crochet club at her school (high school) and it does seem to be popular. That is great that you rearranged your kitchen cabinet storage. Bet it feels like you got a new kitchen in some respects and it’s so nice to see an area that has been cleared out and cleaned up. Hope that whenever you go your errands go well and stress free.
Walked this am, got to the store, paid my taxes and visited Jane for a few minutes. I am home for the rest of the day- waiting for the snow to start. Hope that Ds makes it home ok in a few hours. As soon as I finish checking email I will go back to work on the PMQ.
Looked at those fabrics again, and well I think some of those 3 yard quilt patterns will work out perfectly for these fabrics and allow me a chance to experiment a bit.

Hello It's a rainy, cold day here. Hope your weather is better Ginny - What a nice surprise to come home to some fabric. I'm glad you've looked through them and think you can use some of them for 3 yard quilts. Hope the snow isn't too bad for you and that you get to work on the PMQ quilt today. That's really great to hear that your DD has started a crochet club at school. There are so many "modern" crochet patterns that I'm sure girls that age will find something to make. Ruth - How wonderful that your DGD is crocheting and do a good job at it. I'm sure you are proud of her and happy to see the younger generation crocheting. I was able to get some quilting done today. Pat Sloan's next Wednesday block came out and I made it (the one that is grays and coral/pink). I'm also showing a picture of that quilt tabletopper I talked about a few days ago that didn't quite come out like I thought it would. I still like the soft colors though. And I made the 10 inch and 5 inch block for that quilt along from the You Tube video I linked for you yesterday. This first block was very quick to make. I'd like to make some in other colors/fabrics. I might stick with making the red and white ones, but I'm not sure about the yellow ones. I still would like to try to use some of my Civil War Reproduction fabric for this basket quilt. Take care everyone

Hi CJ— all your blocks look really lovely to me!! I like the two basket blocks (guess I am a bit of a basket case myself!) I do like red and white (the red ware look) and also red and yellow. Of course color combinations are all personal taste, and what one person likes the other might not. And yes, I think civil war fabrics would be charming in the basket block design quilt.
Yes I got some more work done on the PMQ- and boy it’s bright! I am actually getting to the point where I will be assembling the border- got the center all laid out and just have 2 final seams to do on that. Some thoughts. Cotton cuts did a pretty good job of providing directions- which I became more comfortable with after the first month. The final assembly directions are also pretty good. And of course they were very timely in sending out the packets each month. I just would not participate again in one of their PMQ’s because of the fabric.
Looked through the bag of fabric - again- and am starting to wrap my head around what was given to me. Think it will be fun to make a few quilts where I do not have to be concerned about the fabric or the cost -just a free experiment! All I need to provide is the batting.
We hardly got any snow and temps are supposed to rise tonight. At least I did not have to clean up a lot of snow.

CJ, is the top one the table topper? It's very pretty and your blocks are lovely also, as Ginny has said. I sure agree.I have to look up Civil War reproduction fabrics because the two of you mention them and I'm not sure what they look like
Ginny, I'm glad you didn't get much snow. I know it's a relief not to have to clear a driveway and sidewalks and worry about your dh getting home safely. It sure sounds like you have a good plan for that fabric that was given to you. It makes sense to try some things and then if you don't like them you can always drop them off at the Goodwill or somewhere like that.
Sweet dreams everyone

Hello Ginny - I'm glad you have some ideas to use that fabric for, it's fun to have "new to us" fabric to play around with. I hope you can get your PMQ quilt top together soon. Ruth - Hope you are doing well today and the weather isn't too cold. Yes, the first picture is the tabletopper. I like all the fabrics in it, but from a "quilt standpoint" there isn't enough contrast with light and dark fabrics. But what does that matter There are some really pretty Civil War Reproduction fabrics. Here's a new line (Amelia's Blues) that just came out and I love it. I'm trying to resist buying it: www.fatquartershop.com/amelias-blues-fat-quarter-bundleHere are a few others that would kind of be in this genre: www.fatquartershop.com/mary-anns-gift-fat-quarter-bundleI have the fat quarter of these fabrics and I'm using them right now for the basket blocks: www.fatquartershop.com/old-blue-calicos-10-inch-squaresHere's another designer that focuses on these fabrics. I have bought several of her fabrics: www.heartspunquilts.com/shop/Heartspun-Quilts-Fabric.htmI finished making another basket block this morning, using the blue and cream/tan fabric from the Old Blue Calicos collection. After I finished it and took a picture I realized I'd put it together wrong! So I had to rip out some seams to make it right. I'll post a picture in the next few days. I also cut backing fabric and batting for 4 panels, so I have them laying out so that batting can flatten some. I hope to get those quilted by the end of February, but hopefully sooner. I've decided not to put any extra borders on 3 of the panels, since they already have a wide border. I realized that I really just like the picture on the panel and don't care about making it bigger with extra borders. Next up is getting more months done on my Temperature quilt. I hope to get several months done through this weekend. I need to get that quilt top finished so I can concentrate on getting pieces cut for the bitty houses. That will make putting them together a lot easier for me. It's a cold and cloudy day here today. Hope your weather isn't too bad where you are: Also hope you are getting to do some crafting. Take care
