Best news about our son the park ranger—here’s what I sent all my kids tonight after our hospital visit: Message I just sent to all the kids: Ok—are you ready for this? Something to help us sleep better tonight here—we just got back — his legs were over to the left and crossed. Oh my gosh, the nurse said he put them there! And when Gary was in he tried to rise up twice and the nurse had to gently push him back down. I’m no doctor but I’m guessing we now know he’s not paralyzed!! Also when I told him I was there he opened his eyes—and he did for Gary as well. So baby steps to someone else but giant steps for Steve I’d say. We did not stay long at all—the nurse cautioned us to speak quietly—just to let him know we are there. His blood pressure was very high when gary (who went in first) was in—when I went in the nurse was adding more BP meds to the IV and I stood and watched the BP come down—to 172 from 190+ when Gary had arrived. We are super happy tonight as the fear of paralysis was high.

Wondering when you get home, Sue—hope you didn’t encounter any piranhas in the Amazon !!
Today they will do the second day of trying to get Steve to start showing signs that he can breathe w/o ventilator. If he fails they will do a tracheotomy and food tube surgery on Friday. This is hard. Of course we had to pay a fortune to retain an attorney to get guardianship and of course he did not get papers filed yesterday even tho I worked like crazy to get all the papers in to him by Tuesday. When I called I asked if they would keep us updated about what is being done—yes, by mailing us filed papers. Unbelievable—who uses snail mail when we are paying 454$ an hr. Sorry venting. This guy is supposed to be best in town to deal with guardianship cases but somehow I did not find this comforting.

Hope you all are well.
DS park ranger still in trauma unit—starting fifth week tomorrow. He is breathing, through trache, on his own. Occasional signs of awareness but not often. May be moved to lesser care in hospital on Friday depending on CT scan.
I am trying to manage my stress—have not done my clay for 4 weeks and am grieving the loss of my favorite activity. Did finally go to the gym yesterday and saw friends for the first time in a month.
Had hoped to build today but ended up immersed in legal paperwork once again. Still struggling with dental junk as well.
Sorry, not much positive happening here—we did have our son from SLC here this weekend and that was a much needed break from pure hospital regimen.

Hoping everyone is fine. DS PR is back from Acute Care facility (1 week) in the Hospital ICU for Neuro problems. He has another infection—getting in control now with another drain—possible shunt surgery on the 5th or shortly thereafter. No idea where they will assign him care level wise after the surgery but we are fearful he won’t qualify for even skilled nursing—he is only occasionally responding to one direction to lift his arm—isn’t tracking light with his eyes except for one night when we were visiting he appeared to look at the pictures we were showing—however he doesn’t seem to know USand since then is not “looking at” things when held up.
We are exhausted. But I’m making headway on some paperwork that is due very soon—finally have his disability app completely submitted and will take papers to the attorney tomorrow so that we can submit bills to be paid from his account. I so far have only been allowed to make a house payment and a utility payment and a credit card payment.
Weather here has been beautiful this week—just slightly cooler. Holly, I have three Phoenix Red tomato plants and they are loaded with I’d guess about a hundred tomatoes! Some are getting pretty decent sized so I think they will start turning soon.
Am dying to get back to my clay work on a regular basis but paperwork tends to dominate my days—I did make a few little cats a new way that turned out cute—might make some more and put a hook on them for christmas ornaments. They are only about 2 in tall.
I’m finally over a cold that hit me after our grad trips to NYC and Reno—so that really helps. Hope you all are well and have some fun summer things planned.
