Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Here we go…..another week and almost the beginning of February.
Ruth, glad you mastered the panels and have figured out how to make the car seat blanket with the bobbles in the right size hook.
Sue- good to see you here!!! I had never heard of a temperature quilt, but have seen temperature afghans. Same concept and if you have a lot of yarn that might interest you.
CJ- gosh you juggle a lot of projects! I know that time reorganizing your supplies and cleaning your much loved machine is time well spent.
Sorry for being so brief, I will stop back in later on but wanted to start us off. I stayed at church an extra hour and then when I was really hoping to settle in and check in I got a phone call asking me to drop off the flash drive with Dh’s archeological project. And I am still cleaning up his email. I did get to crochet a tiny bit on the head band, and put a few minutes into the PMQ. Next is the border and it sounds a bit more involved, so I will wait to work on that until a mid day sewing session and not at the end of the day.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today We had temps near 60 today and sunny weather, but it's going downhill the rest of the with much colder weather. Ruth - The car seat sounds like it's going to be beautiful. I'm happy for you that you figured out how to crochet words, so now you can make some other items with saying on them. I needed to push myself to get that Temperature quilt done because I'm going to have so many of those little houses to make each month. Ginny - Hope you get some rest this evening since it sounds like you had a busy day. I hoe the PMQ border turns out to be easier than it seems. I was able to organize my ongoing projects and stacked them up neatly and made a list of them. I usually put my projects into 2 gallon ziploc/hefty bags, so that really helps. I think I have about 8 of them, but a few will finish up over the next few months. I think only 3 of them go through the whole year. I also pieced together some blocks I had made but couldn't decide what to do with, so they are together with a small inner border. I'd like to find some floral fabric to make a larger outer border. This is just a wallhanging size quilt. A new quilt along starts tomorrow that I hope to participate in. It's being held by Pat Sloan to go along with her "Holiday Hoopla" pattern book. I'm thinking that I'm just going to make each of the blocks in fabrics that match the holiday (or at least what I think does) and have a scrappy quilt. Here's a link for info about it and also the layout (which is a pdf file): www.ilovetomakequilts.com/holiday-hoopla-quilt-along.htmlpatsloan.typepad.com/files/pat-sloan-holiday-hoopla-supply-list-and-layout-1.pdfI like that it's a nice square quilt. Some of her quilt designs are mixed up sizes, like Sweet Childhood Memories, and I really don't care for those as much. Take care everyone!

Ginny, what head band are you making? If you've mentioned it I must have missed it somehow.
CJ, the blocks that she has posted there for the Childhood memory quilt sure are pretty. There's one I don't care for and a few that I especially like Sorry your weather is going downhill. I think our high today was again below zero so this system must be moving to the east and you'll get some of it in time.
I didn't get that third panel done last evening after all so have been working on it today. Hopefully I get it done and can get started on the 4th onel. Our pipes in the kitchen did freeze some because the light we had under there to give heat burned out but we were able to get it thawed easily with a hair dryer.
Have a good evening everyone. I'll stop back later to see if Ginny had time to post

Good morning!!
Ruth, I am so thankful (as I am sure you are too!!) that a few minutes with a hair dryer got your pipes thawed. What a mess that could have been and costly also. Hope that today you can get the third panel completed. Yes I still need to go back to Sundays postings to catch up with all you are doing. The head band I am making is to use a small amount of black yarn I have, to cover my ears. Pretty simple, and should not take long for me to finish.
CJ- like you , I like the look of a quilt with blocks all the same size. The Holiday hoopla layout looks great, and it’s not too many different blocks either. I look forward to seeing what you do with it and how it turns out. I am guessing that you will just use the appropriate fabrics for each block which makes it scrappy. Have fun with it! Glad you were able to get organized and ongoing projects in zip locks. Makes it much easier both on the eye and from a practical standpoint it makes good sense and keeps things easy to find.
Yesterday was a fun but busy babysitting day, and then bible study last night. When I got home from study I decided to just go to bed, and try to fall asleep with out too much struggle. Sometimes when I am out at night, I cannot fall asleep for a long time which makes the next day tough. Thankfully I did not take too long to fall asleep.
See ya later.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you were able to thaw those pipes with the hair dryer. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get to sleep well last night. It's rainy and cold here today, and I guess the rest of the week will be cold too. I'm hoping my furnace can keep up. I made the first block for the Holiday Hoopla quilt along this morning. It was pretty easy. The hardest thing with quilt alongs like this is that I bought the book on my Kindle, so it's difficult to read the pattern on there sometimes. I end up writing it out. But it's worth it to me not to bring more books into the house. I've tried to get ride of a lot of them and don't want to start building them up again. I am going to make each block in one color which I think defines the holiday. So my block today was in blue and white for the snowman which I feel is like a January color. I hope you all get to do some crafting today too and your weather isn't too bad. Take care

Hello Ladies. Thank you for the kind words about my frozen pipe problem
Ginny, it sounds like you did have a fun day with the grandchildren. I'm glad you were able to get to sleep a little more easily. I've always thought that the more we try to get to sleep the longer we lie awake.
CJ,I usually watch videos for patterns and I write them down also I think that I've managed to get rid of all my pattern books and magazines. There were some that I cut out of books or magazine but over time realized they were online so out they went but I still have a few special ones that aren't available online. I, too, want to get rid of things. I think the blues are very appropriate for January in your block.
Weather is horrible today. Not only was it ridiculously cold during the night but the wind kept increasing and it's been a total white out here for hours now. I couldn't get out if I wanted to. And my yarn was supposed to be delivered today and I'll be really shocked if they are able to get it here.I hope they don't end up sending it back

good evening,
Yeah, CJ, I am with you- I no longer want to buy books, especially knowing that I am trying to get rid of some stuff. Is there a way you can print out from your Kindle? Think blue and white is perfect for a January block! It will also provide a nice break from what might be Christmas colors and the red/pink for Valentine’s Day (if there are blocks to me made for then). I too hope that your heater is able to keep up with the colder temps. I forget, do you have an electric heater to supplement if necessary?
Ruth, me too- I hope that your yarn is held for delivery on a better day! I know here, where my weather is usually not so extreme, they will hold the mail if weather conditions are awful. Can you track your package? Most carriers do permit that. Hope you and Dh are able to stay warm and safe during this time of extreme cold and wind. I am sure you are well stocked for supplies but hope you can get out soon and that the weather cooperates
The little boys were hysterical today and well, they really get along pretty well. No crafting yet, today and I am not sure if I will get much done. I will check out the fabric requirements for the PMQ backing, and I hope to get to HL some day this week to buy fabric as a backing.

Woke up to a lovely clear but cold morning! As far as I got in crafting last night was to get the PMQ out and from the directions, ascertain which of the fabrics they sent for the binding. Thankfully for me, the fabric I like the most is the binding and if I get a plain black fabric for the backing it will look fine.
Hope everyone slept well last night. Stay warm!

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well. Ruth - Did they deliver your yarn? Hope your weather is better. Ginny - I'm glad you enjoyed your grandsons yesterday and that you were able to get the PMQ quilt ready for the next step. I can't print from my Kindle, but it's alright I can just write things out. I only have my oil furnace for heat, but I do have a small space heater I will use sometimes when it's really cold. I only use it when I am right by it and for not long periods since the plug gets very hot. I worry about fires. We had some snow early this morning but it's pretty much melting now since it's a sunny day. Since it was a snow day, I made my bitty house for this day with a snowman I made the new Pat Sloan block today, it was a quick chain block. I'm attaching pictures of all 5 blocks done so for for that quilt along. Also, the block I did for the other quilt along, with and without the sashing. And I did some hand quilting this morning and have the center of my medallion piece done. I'd sure like to get this one finished. The cross hatching which is what is left along each side now seems to take a long time, but maybe it won't this time. Take care and have a great day!

CJ, wow, you hand quilted that? You did a fantastic job! The block with the snow man is so cute. I love that top blue block. They all are great but that one is my favorite for the day UPS claims that they delivered my yarn and the message says they put it on my deck. Well it's no where to be seen. Poor dh went out in the blasting wind two different times to see if he could find it anywhere and couldn't find it. It had to be a very large box so it would not have been possible for it to blow off my porch as there are slats and railings they couldn't fit through. And there were no footprints to indicate someone had been on my walkway to the porch. Ginny, I'm glad the little boys get along well. They will be more like brothers than cousins with all the time they spend together. Children their ages are adorable.I'm also glad to hear you have your plan for finishing the PMQ.

Ruth, some carriers (FedEx being one) take pictures of a package at your front door when delivered. I am so very sorry that your yarn is not with you. I figure by now you have contacted both the sender and UPS- hopefully a replacement order is sent out ASAP. I remember the one time I had a package stolen from my front porch (which I really really really doubt happened in your area) Walmart very quickly sent out a replacement item.
CJ- it sure does sound as though we are in for some cooler temps- Friday and Saturday are going to be particularly harsh. Yes, your hand quilting has really come along beautifully and Its easy to see that you are very comfortable with it! Such a great job, and it looks so pretty. The snowman house block is adorable! I know Ruth likes the blue blocks, my preference are the tan/peach print/taupe blocks because they look very 3 dimensional to me. So pretty.
I was able to get to HL with DGS today and they had Kona solid black fabric 40% off. So i bought what I needed for the PMQ and will order batting from Walmart. HL had batting but did not have prepackaged batting in the size I need. I was in the store with DGS,who was very good, but you can only expect a 2 year old to be good for so long.

Despite the fact that UPS sent me a message yesterday that said my package had been delivered and had my poor dh out in the blasting wind twice looking for it. (He also went out again this morning...still windy but not as bad) I just got a message that my" package has been delivered".I went up and checked and the package was there. I thought they were supposed to send that message AFTER the package was placed on your porch. At least I got it but I had sent a message to Herrschners telling them it was missing. Now have to send another message to let them know it arrived. What a pain. I stressed about losing all that money.
I did get the car seat blanket edging done yesterday so that's done. Now to start on another project. I tried one that was on a video on youtube and despite the fact that I did exactly what she did mine kept getting messed up so after hours of trying it over and over I gave up. It was just a c2c but done in a different way. I restarted it using the tried and true way.

Hello Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get what you need for your PMQ quilt. I'm sure you were proud of your DGS being good in the store We're supposed to have a new Hobby Lobby open this year about 15 miles from where I live. It's not going to be in the nicest area, but I'd feel fairly safe going there on a weekday morning. I've never been to one, so I'm looking forward to it. Ruth - I'm happy that you did receive your box, but sorry about all the mix up with it. Hope you are enjoying a new project. It's cold and cloudy here today, but the really cold weather is supposed to be tomorrow and Saturday. I'll be glad to get past that. I went out this morning to get some groceries and I went in JoAnns too. I was hoping to find some of the same gray fabric I'm using in the blocks for the Sweet Childhood Memories quilt along, but they didn't have it. I did find another gray that is close to the same color. I may have enough of the original fabric to finish the blocks, but I wanted extra just in case. I was also looking for the off white I'm using in this quilt along and found that. This is what is difficult about these types of quilt alongs, there is not exact amount of fabric needed given to you at the start. I know I keep saying I should stop doing these I did find a few other fabrics I was looking for too. I wish I'd felt like staying there longer since they had an area with fabrics on clearance for 60% off and I'd like to have looked more closely at those. And I got a really good buy on a gallon of Best Press starch, the regular price is $59.99 and I had a 60% off coupon, so I only paid $24.00 for it! So no quilting for me today since I had to go out, but hopefully I'll get back to it tomorrow. The final "clue" came out for the Meadow Mist mystery quilt, so that top is ready to be put together. Take care

Ginny, I'm glad your little dgs was good in the store. Yes 2 year olds can get tired of being in a store very rapidly and esp if they are tired. I'm glad you found the fabric you need.
CJ, How nice that a Hobby Lobby opened near to you. Last time I looked they had really nice fabric but it's been a long time since I was in their fabric section. It's great that you got the groceries you need esp if it will be cold an not good weather soon. Too bad about the one fabric not being available and I hope the gray you did get works well. You sure have a lot of will power. if I saw yarn marked down like that fabric I wouldn't be able to resist.
Speaking of yarn, why is it that when you want to make something you don't have the right yarn. As you know, I have a gigantic yarn stash but don't have the type and colors that I want to use.
