Good evening,
CJ- the blocks are all so pretty..funny I looked at them and of course had my own personal favorites, but then looked at your pictures again and said to myself about certain blocks, that “Ruth will like those blocks”. Of course in this world of crafting color combinations that one person likes another will find a different color combination that they prefer. The basket blocks are adorable and I think even though you indicate that the fabrics do not photograph well, they still are very cute. Its a cute block. The cottage block is pretty- and I can see that making it in different fabrics would make a really sweet quilt top/table topper or wall hanging. Indeed you have had a very productive day!!
Worked this am and thankfully, it was a route I had been on several times before and therefore not very challenging. I did go out to lunch with a former coworker, which as we tended to chat for a long time…well I was gone a long time. Then got a walk in with my friend, who has recently lost her job. I figure this will be a quiet weekend for me, so other than some housework which I usually do on Saturday, I hope to spend some time in sewing. What I sew, I am sort of unsure of. I know that I should finish the PMQ, and suppose that I will work on that. But that might never become a finished quilt.
I promise I will not dwell on Spare forever…but when you hear Harry’s account it’s plain to see that he is a boy/man. It’s super hard to understand how he could have gotten to his early 30’s and had absolutely no idea what protocol was (as an American even I could figure out some of what seemed oblivious to him) and also how he blames almost everything on everyone else. For the listen it seems pretty obvious that Charles and William wanted Harry to slow down in his relationship with Meghan, knowing that one of the key problems with Charles relationship with Diana was that they did not know each other well enough. I am down to 3 hours left which means I will, Lord willing, finish this miserable book this week.
Ruth, hope you had a good day and made good progress on the 4th section of the afghan.
Sue and Phyl! How are you both doing? We miss hearing from you

Ginny, that is funny. I wonder if what you thought I would like are the same as the ones I picked I really like them all. Both of you pick such great color combos with prints and florals to all harmonize. Both of you make really great quilts. I'm mentioned that my mother's aunt made great quilts. I wish she had given me one. She gave one to my sister because my sister was named after the aunt's daughter that died in childhood and I bet my sister doesn't even have it anymore. Up to the time I saw my great aunts quilts I thought all quilts were ugly because I'd only seen those that people just threw together with fabric from old clothing because they needed blankets. If she had given one to me I know I would not have even used it as a quilt. I would have "saved" it. It's such a blessing to have grandchildren especially those that are so well behaved like yours. I'm glad you had a good day with him I did finish that little blanket yesterday. Put a border on that is pretty plain since it's already so textured. I just did a row of sc, a row of hdc, and a row of crab stitch aka the reverse sc. Then I started another but I've seen a lot of really cute baby sweaters, hats and booties so I'm thinking of trying some of those. I don't usually like to make really small things and I do wonder if anyone really uses booties. I think mostly the booties fall off. I'm going to make some with ribbed tops. There is a nice pattern on youtube by a woman that lives in Turkey and she said she's making them because there are so many there now that need warm things. All that suffering because of the huge earthquake.Miracles were happening there also like that baby that was born under the rubble and was rescued and survived!

Yes Indeed the story of those lives saved in Turkey are so heartwarming and wonderful- and truly miraculous. So many lives lost and such a tragedy. Yes I can imagine there are many who need warm clothes to replace that which was lost. I also often think about those who lost everything in Ukraine and have nothing because their entire infrastructure was destroyed.
Well I have never heard the reverse sc called a crab stitch- it does make a stunning edge for an afghan but when I am done making that stitch (as in completing the afghan ) I am usually very happy I am done with it. It’s an awkward stitch to make. Speaking of baby stuff, I have two baby cardigans my mom knit with tiny white baby yarn. So precious and my mom knit beautifully. She used to knit socks for my dad, also knit ties for him. Glad you finished that blanket and I am, I am sure are on to making something else.
Ha ha ha!! My grandkids well behaved? Well they are just normal kids and can get into plenty of mischief. Last week the two little boys decided that they no longer needed to walk so they chased each other down the hallway crawling.
To think that our ancestors from many years ago made such stunning quilts, but also quilts of necessity- made from torn clothing pieces, flour sacks…etc…and they did not have the fancy cutting supplies that we have now.
CJ makes a lot more quilts than I do…feel free to compliment her fabric choices but mine?? Well I just do not get to make that many quilts.
I am very happy to say that I have finished listening to Spare. It’s a very self serving book in which the author really only is willing to see his own side of the story. There are faults on both parts. Honestly, there is so much misunderstanding in that family (but that takes place in many families!). A shame that H&M felt so compelled to put forth so much negativity. In the public arena. I just really wish they would crawl into obscurity but know that will not happen.
Got a lot of housework done and laundry hung out. Thinking of embroidering this evening, quilting tomorrow.
CJ- hope you had a great day

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today. We had a colder day here today, in the 40s but sunny. Looks like rain all day tomorrow. Ruth - I'm glad you finished your blanket and hope you might try the baby items. I think they are so cute, but I wonder if new mothers do use them. Ginny - Glad you got your housework and laundry done, hope you get to embroider this evening. I'm very happy for you that you're done with that book I spent 2 hours this morning picking out and cutting all the fabrics for the 28 bitty house blocks I need to make for February. It was practically torture for me dealing with all the scrappy choices I can't just put two fabrics together that clash to me, so it takes me longer to match the house and roof fabric. At least they are ready to start being sewn together. I'm trying to figure out a way to get ahead of these houses so it isn't so tough each month. I know I can go ahead and cut the fabrics for the sides of the house and the sky since I'm using standard colors for those. Then I was thinking I just need to pull out my jelly roll strips (scraps) and cut several pieces of each one for houses and for roofs. If I could at least get enough cut for several months then it would be easier to just start sewing. Even though I have a lot of fabric I wonder if I have enough for this quilt, but I guess I probably do. I really want to make it so I hope I can continue. Take care and have a good evening!

Good morning, CJ- are you concerned about having enough fabric or is it enough variety of fabrics? I can imagine if you are making a house each day and a different house for each day then it will be a concern. Think it’s a great idea to break out a jelly roll or two for additional fabric choices. That also brings in fabrics that you might not have selected for this quilt but being that you are using a jelly roll, then why not break out some fabrics that you might not have selected? Try not to stress over this- you selected the pattern and if you take an extra month or two (because you are a bit burned out from the project or just want a break) then who cares? Take your time and enjoy the process. It’s going to be an adorable quilt!!
Yes got some embroidery time in last night- I find that so peaceful and relaxing. Trying to get my inspiration up today to do something. I did get an invitation to a Super Bowl party. Got a feeling that by the time I get to that time of day all I will want to do is stay home.
I hope to stop back in later and see if Ruth checked in.

Hello - Hope you are doing well today. It's rainy, cold day here. Ruth - Hope you are getting to crochet today. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to do some embroidery last night. Did you end up going to the Super Bowl party. Thanks for your thoughts on my houses quilt. I'm not trying to do different fabrics in each but I'm finding that just the plain fabric houses are not that interesting as those with fabric that has some kind of design. But if I do all 365 houses I will definitely have to have some that are just a plain color fabric. Sadly, once I set a goal for a quilt I have trouble letting myself go beyond the date I need to get it done. I put a lot of pressure on myself with projects, that I don't need to I finished making the February blocks (the first picture below) and so now I have January (second picture) and February done. I am seriously re-thinking this project right now. These aren't hard to make and I figure it's only taking me about 6 hours to do them from start to finish each month. But I'm not sure I want to make a quilt for the whole year. If I do it the way I planned the quilt would end up measuring 48x72, which is a very strange size. I'd definitely need to add some spacers in the horizontal rows to add width or plan for just side borders. I may need to take a look at pictures of other house quilts and maybe I could just make one that is a smaller size. I'll see how it goes. I signed up for a Zoom telecast this afternoon from PBS and my local PBS station. They are showing a preview of tonight's All Creatures Great and Small show with some of the cast answer questions live. I've only ever done one Zoom thing, so it should be interesting. Take care and have a good day!

CJ- enjoy the zoom presentation! I have taken 2 book discussions (where the author takes questions from readers) and they can be fun and you can learn a lot. The great thing is you can also be home in your pajamas and no one knows! Those little houses are just so darned cute. I love the bottom row center one with the little birds. I like little birds….think you know that. Think that every so often a plain house is fine and provides a nice visual break form patterns. Sort of a little bit of a surprise. Just keep plugging with the houses and fabrics- let me know if you want me to mail to you some fabric to add a different variety. I would be happy to do that. I am sure you will figure out something that works regarding the size of this quilt. Its so cute
I actually took a nap. And now am convinced that I am getting or have a sinus infection. (Which explains the nap). Not sure what I will do about it- suppose I could stop in urgent care tomorrow and see what they say. I am pretty confident I do not have a fever, but a headache and some symptoms that seem to be consistent with a sinus infection. For all my plans….I did not quilt today. Think I will embroider a bit. And then maybe check out the football game for a little while.

CJ,The little houses are so cute. It will be a nice quilt.I know you like to stick to things once you start them but take your time and if you miss a month of blocks you'll still have plenty for a good size quilt.Or maybe just do half the blocks for a month. Enjoy the zoom meeting. I've never done one. I don't even like to do video chats or facetimes so I just don't do them
Ginny, I know you're glad you're finished with that book. I sure give you a lot of credit for sticking with it to the end. I won't be watching the Super Bowl because I don't get that channel except in a cold part of the house so it's not worth it to me since I don't care who wins. Enjoy your embroidery.I hope you will feel better by tomorrow and your sinus problem is gone
I didn't get a thing accomplished in crochet yesterday. I started that star stitch blanket but was following a pattern and I think the language thing kind of messed up the pattern because, even though I followed the video like I was supposed to, the edges kept getting uneven.I ripped it all out. Today I found the cabbage patch stitch blanket I started a few years ago. I sure didn't get much done back then on it.There were only two rows done.I'm going to finish this one before starting another or starting the baby sweaters and booties and tiny hats.
Tomorrow I'm going to get my car maintenance service done. I'll sit in the waiting area crocheting. I'm going to stop on the way there to drop off two very large bags of hats to donate.
