Hello - Hope everyone is doing well and having good weather. It's raining and in the 40s here today. Ginny - Hope you can get your shopping done and enjoy a quiet afternoon. After talking to the alarm company I'm going to wait a bit to see if the alarm goes off again. Ruth - Hope your shawl is coming along. I was able to finish a bunch of blocks this morning and I'm caught up with all my quilt alongs except for the basket blocks - I'm still waiting for the pattern for this month. I think I'll make a few more Harrisonburg blocks now and turn that into a table runner. I'll share some pictures below. Take care and have a good weekend! Holiday Hoopla block and all 6 blocks so far: Sweet Childhood Memories block 10 and all blocks so far: March Block A Day: Sew With Me quilt along: Rainbow Scrap Challenge - Ohio Star Blocks and X blocks:

CJ,beauty overload. I really love them all. I think the Sweet Childhood memories might be my favorite but then I saw the Harrisonburg block and loved it. And I just can't seem to really decide. They're all just so pretty. And well made also. That alarm going off early in the morning had to be horribly frightening so it's no wonder you couldn't get back to sleep. I hope you can sleep well tonight. Ginny I hope you did get to have the afternoon all to yourself as you mentioned earlier. Are you all recovered from your illness in the beginning of the week? The shawl I'm working on is from a video on youtube.Videos are nice but I always have to write them out also. The videos are good for showing you what the designer of the pattern means since many don't use the same terminology to mean the same thing and it does depend on you well they record the video and how close the shot is to the stitches and if they put their fingers so that you can't see.The shawl is called the Lace Embrace but it's actually what most call the Virus shawl. I've never done one before and I learned a few things working on it. I'm not going to make it a full size shawl because not only would that take a long time but since dd spends most of her time sitting in her bed reading and being online I think she would prefer it to mostly just cover her shoulders and not interfere with movement but being to large and getting tangled around her body.So I would say it's a shawlette. It's not quite done yet but will be either tonight or tomorrow then I can wash it and let it block itself

Happy Saturday….
Ruth, I checked out the shawl on the internet. It appears to be a Lacey shawl so very pretty. Most versions I saw had stripes of different colors, but I am sure this will be stunning in all one color also. Making a shawlette sounds like a wonderful idea so she can sit in bed as you mentioned she does, and have it draped over her shoulders. I love that the one name of the pattern is Lace Embrace, I view this shawl as being a loving embrace from you to her when you are not with each other. Do you and Dh have another day to go visit with her? Looking forward to reading that you have finished the shawlette and its being blocked.
CJ- well you certainly have been busy!!!! I enjoyed looking at all the blocks, and do remember the block patterns from a quilting life quilt along. I tend to like the classic/historical quilts, so the Harrisonburg quilt block really caught my eye. Love the red and white floral fabrics (ok it’s off white) - a combination I have always thought was stunning. Very pretty. Is your alarm system behaving itself? Think that we are in for a somewhat mild week and even some warmer temps ahead, which should be good for your heater to keep up with.
I woke up to a winter wonderland…it’s snowing and will continue to do so for another few hours. So very pretty, but as the temps are supposed to rise, it will not be a problem to clear. I only got some cutting done on the quilt yesterday. i was really tired, (three days of babysitting will do that to you!!!) and ended up taking a short nap. Work wanted me to go back in, which I did turn down. Ds is home (he took some vacation time) and while he is a bit unpredictable regarding his meals, he was interested in me making chicken parm and peanut butter banana squares, so I ended up in the kitchen a lot. And had rehearsal for music for church Sunday last night. Got some housework planned - and I do hope to get back to my sewing room later on.

Hello - Hope you are doing well and having good weather today. It was windy here earlier a nd today is cold and cloudy. Ginny - Hope you get some rest this weekend. Are you supposed to get a lot of the snow that is coming in the next few days? Ruth - Hope you can get the shawl done so it's ready to give to your daughter. I haven't had any problems with my alarm again, so I'm just leaving the window alone for now. Hopefully what I did to it the other day took care of the problem. Thanks always for your kind words on my quilt pieces. I enjoy sharing the pictures here with you. This morning I put some borders on a small quilt piece I'd finished earlier this year and I have some fabric left from that which I think I'll use just to make a small piece. I also got all the fabrics cut for a table runner using the Harrisonburg block pattern. I'm going to have 3 blocks in the table runner and then use some of the smaller blocks in the pattern in sashing and borders. I hope to work more on that tomorrow or maybe tonight since my downstairs is really cold. The furnace has not been able to get the house heated up today. I'm sure it's warmer upstairs so I might go up there for awhile. Take care and have a good evening

Ginny, snow is pretty when you don't have to go out in it.I hope that tomorrow the snow will be easy to get rid of so that you're able to drive. It's great that your ds is taking a vacation and that you can cook for him as well as for yourself. I've never heard of peanut butter, banana bars. Chicken parm sounds great. Do you have pasta with it or garlic bread. I've never really made chicken parm.
CJ, I'm sorry your house is cold downstairs and I sure with they'd been able to fix everything so that you had heat in your whole house. I can't wait to see the table runner you mentioned. It's going to be fantastic. I meant to say yesterday that I love those green blocks you posted too.
Today same old, same old except I did get the shawl done and washed and laid out to dry. I used mandala yarn in the colorway Serpent for it. I have to say I'm not fond of how the yellow turns into a bile green but luckily there isn't too much of that part. And yes, one of the main reasons I chose this pattern over the many others for a virus shawl is because it had the name Lace Embrace. I plan on telling her that when I give it to her which I think will be Monday unless she's adamantly against that which I don't think she will be.
So now I have a problem decided what crochet project to do next but I'm thinking the gingham blanket. I need to look at my list and I suppose I should be finishing something I've already started but I really would like to start this gingham so I think I will.

Ruth, before I made it all the way through your post, I thought that the gingham afghan was going to be next on your list. As you have already started it and were mid stream on it when switching to DD’s shawl- I think it’s a great idea to return to that project. Bet the colors of yarn you are using for the afghan will be a welcome change from the Mandala serpent yarn. I did check out that color way on Joanns and I got a glimpse of that color transition that is not pleasing to your eye. Bet that the shawl looks great and that the transition from yellow to green is so minimal and over shadowed by the other pretty colors in the yarn. I hope and pray that DD feels well enough for a visit from you and Dh tomorrow. The visit will be good for her outlook on life, and also you and Dh as you spend time with her.
CJ- so very sorry that your downstairs heat is a problem. What a shame that it’s comfortable upstairs, which sort of forces you to spend more time in your sewing area! Ha ha ha. That is great that your alarm has not acted up any more. Can you turn the alarm off- close the window (and block it closed) then turn the alarm on again? Wonder if that will help avoid future problems with the window shifting and the alarm going off. Re reading your post it looks like you have solved the problem which is good. Are you planning on making an entire quilt from the Harrisonburg pattern or just a table runner? Forgive me, I just do not remember.
DD and DGS came over for a long visit yesterday, so all my plans to get stuff done and quilt were scrapped. Hope that after I take care of some minor items here that I can return to quilting and work on the fabric cafe quilt. My backing fabric arrived yesterday and it seems nice. Snow? Well it does seem as though I will be getting some snow, and schools are probably going to have to close. All depends upon which forecaster you listen to- but it sounds like a snow starting Monday night and through most of Tuesday- and then the wind starts. I pray we keep our power through it all and there is no wind damage. A blessing indeed that Ds is off this week- he had planned to take this week off for vacation all along!! I am very thankful that I will not have to be concerned for his safety getting to and from work. The rest of my family here are all employed with school districts so the schools will probably be closed and they can stay home with their kids.
Hope you can get some crafting time in today!! Ginny

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today and having good weather. It's a cold rainy day here, current temp is 39 degrees! Ginny - I hope you enjoyed the visit with your DD and DGS and that you were able to work on your quilt today. I hope the snow this week isn't too bad for you and I'm glad you DS is on vacation so he won't have to go out in it. Ruth - I checked out the color of that yarn and I'm sure it looks good once it's all spread out in the shawl. I hope your DD will enjoy it and it will comfort her. Hope you enjoy working with the different colors in the gingham blanket. The Daylight Savings Time change throws me all off. My sleep isn't that great most of the time, so I sure didn't need to lose an hour I got up late and didn't feel like working on any quilting today. So hopefully I'll get back to it this coming week. Have a good evening!

I was here earlier and lost my post so I'm back. Ginny, I hope you don't get too much snow and that you won't lose power. I'll be praying as you did for me. Yes now that the shawl is laid out you really can't see the green. I meant to mention, being that you drive school buses, that they're hiring here I mostly wanted to say that a couple storms ago our school district, in their infinite wisdom, decided it was ok to open schools. So the buses went out and picked up kids but because it was so cold (still below zero) the fuel gelled and they had to call for gasoline powered vehicles to come and take the children back home. CJ,yes many people feel that way about time changing. I can see why you took a day off of quilting. It sure would be nice if someone could do something to make your furnace work better.Your temp today was lower than ours. I did get the first 10 rows of the gingham blanket done so that's the first section of blocks each of which are 11 stitches across and 10 rows high. Im making it with Mary Maxim's Max Value yarn and was surprised at how soft it is when worked. I'm using light teal, medium teal, and white. Nice thing is that if I need more it's easy to get from there. Then I set that aside and made another of the fun fringe hats in baby size and using a really pretty blue and also cream. It's Lion Brand cupcake yarn and I don't think they even sell it anymore but it sure is nice yarn See you tomorrow in the new week...time is passing by too fast
