Welcome to our 2016 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.

NEW CHALLENGE! November 1 - December 31
CHRISTMAS DREAMS CAN COME TRUE!
Did you know? 24 days until Thanksgiving, 25 days until Black Friday, 28 days until Cyber Monday, 54 days until Christmas Eve AND 55 days until Christmas Day! HO HO HO!! So make your Christmas dreams come true and get on the AF wagon! You have over 8 weeks to make changes in your life that will bring you into 2017 feeling great!
Ever drink, and still feel lousy? Ever drink, and say, not enough buzz? Ever drink and say one more has got to make it better or at least make me not care? Ever drink and ask yourself, what am I doing? Why do I want to poison myself? How does this possibly help me? The problems will still be there the next day. Then do you find yourself repeating the pattern knowing the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and yet expecting a different result. Ah, but you know betterโฆ.HAH!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be and if it was easy, there would be no need for this board and this wonderfully supportive group. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine if you need a plan for a detour, not necessarily to take it but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Have the holidays always been a reason to drink? Do you think you can enjoy the holidays without alcohol? Or do you get through the holidays by drinking? During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. There may be holiday dinner you wish to plan an AIM, repeat AIM, detour. However please remember if AIM becomes a relapse....we still want you back! Don't berate yourself. Come back to the board, 'fess up and get back on track. We are here to be supportive of each other in reaching our goals.
So if your Christmas Dreams are to be AF and feel physically, mentally and spiritually healthier, please join us for the challenge and make your dreams come true. New friends are welcome to join at any stage of the challenge.

Bless you Amy for starting us even when you overslept!
Today was wi for me. 2 days after I had ham at ddil, and I was down 1.6!!!!! That means during this challenge I actually lost 2 pounds!! Woohoo!!! Since my memory is gone thanks to menopause and probably A, I honestly can't remember a Christmas where I actually lost weight. From Christmas to New Years was usually a holiday week for me. I can't help but think what the scale would have read if I had wine at the 4 celebrations like I had planned! I am so glad I read the First5 that day! Truly, being AF was a gift of grace.
Amy, today is the day your house gets quiet, isn't it? Sad, but good at the same time!
Murphy: How are you feeling? Any A cravings?
Jan: I'll bet you are ready for part time hours. I'm sure your house was too quiet as well!
Cindy: I remember a time dh cut off part of the pad of his finger cutting on some kind of a slicer. I know how much a cut can hurt. ๐ I'm glad ds cut it off with the old gf. He is learning!! See, he did learn some lessons with his time with dq!
Carole: Broken toes are so painful!! So you have been AF since the incident?
Helen, Liz, Sue: Miss you guys!!
3 meetings today. My plan for activity is to do my line dance DVD BEFORE I get on FB this afternoon. I also plan on doing my little weight routine. Babysteps!

Good morning all! Today is the day I see the neurologist. Of course, I have zero tremors today!! I have thought a thousand times over the last week about just canceling the appointment but I figure I should go on and keep it just to rule everything out. Of course, I don't shake nearly so bad since I'm not drinking!! LOL
Amy - Hope today goes smoothly.
GG - no real A cravings. I did have that dream one night about drinking and woke up so mad at myself!
Jan -doctor appointment today. I'll report in afterwards. Hope you enjoy your days off!
Carole - so sorry about DS! I've never broken a toe but my ex-husband broke a toe right before we got married and he limped through our honeymoon!
I texted with Sue last night. Her dad is still in the hospital but is having more surgery today.
Cindy - I love the Dryuary challenge idea! I'm so proud of DS for sticking to his guns with the girlfriend. So glad he loves his job!
Helen, Liz and other lurkers - miss you!
Hope everyone has a great day! Murphy

The A is still off and on, probably more on, but I will faithfully keep coming here until I can truly be AF. My first goal is to make it through this weekend, have a head start on the new challenge! I work Friday - Sunday so certainly don't want to feel yucky. Heading to the mall today to get my steps, think I'll just bring something for lunch and not meet up with my friend, then it's not such a long day and I have plenty to do around the house. Make it a great one all. Jan GG yay for the WI! I know when I track and am mindful I can do this, sometimes even if I go over my weeklies!! It's about the balance of exercise and choices. I am very ready for Part time hours, and to get back to my knitting class!!! Barb Good luck at the Dr. Yay for over a month of AF days!! Will you have the rest of the day off after your appointment? Amy Sounds like you needed the sleep! Hope it didn't put you behind at work. Did you get any walk in this morning? Cindy Looking forward to the next challenge. We'll be having a quiet New Years at home too. Waving hi to all.

Hi all! Good news from the neurologist - I wasn't imagining the tremors! Even better news is that he doesn't think it is Parkinson's or anything else progressive. He felt that I have something called benign essential tremors and it usually doesn't progress. If it does or becomes more bothersome, there is a medication I can try. I can't tell you how relieved I am! I came by the grocery store and got some healthy food to help me get back on track. I have to tell you all that even though I am so relieved at the good report from the doctor, I found myself getting sad this afternoon because no one in my family even called to check to see what the doctor said. They all knew my appointment was today. I just kept thinking who would I turn to if the news had been bad? Nothing to be done but it just made me sad. BUT - I DID NOT get any alcohol at the store! LOL The doctor did ask if I drank alcohol. I said I didn't. I didn't elaborate. But then he said that this sort of tremor usually responded well to moderate alcohol use! Um - not for me!!! So I put up a few more Christmas decorations but I'll finish up this weekend. Everyone have a good evening! Murphy

Hi Everyone!
Barb, very glad to hear the positive news. I am sorry about your family's lack of response. I know it is not the same but I am glad you can share with us and turn to us. In so many ways we have become a family. I am very glad you left the A at the store, let the ring look at you! I do understand about family though, they give what they can give but their lives are first and we can become a second thought. I learned a lot in the last 18 months. Hugs! Sleep well tonight.
Amy, I hope the extra sleep did you good and you didn't feel like you were trying to catch up all day!
GG, glad you had a loss! Woo Hoo! Hope you had a great day!
Jan, congrats on the loss! Successful challenge! Please keeping coming even when you are successfully AF!
Carole, hope DS's broken toe isn't too bad. I have broken more than I can count and the last one was a disaster due to the RA, it never healed properly. I sometimes think people think oh a broken toe but it needs to be attended to IMHO. How are you doing?
Hi Sue, glad to hear the positive news on your Dad. Hi Helen! Hi Liz!
Okay, Dryuary Cleanse is our next challenge.
Hugs to all, Cindy
