Hello Everyone - Hope you are well and having nice weather. It's a pretty sunny day here with temps in the 60s and lots less wind Ginny - Sorry to hear about the oven. I hope you can get it fixed quickly. Were you planning to have an Easter meal at your house this weekend? Ruth - Hope you are getting to work on some new crochet projects My new lawn service came this morning and they did a good job and hopefully this will continue for the whole season. I picked out fabrics for my monthly Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks, so I just need to get them pressed and cut. I need to clean my sewing machine first though and replace the needle. I try to do that at the beginning of every month. I do have plenty of purple fabric, but it's interesting how all the different shades don't always work for certain projects. I've been trying to just use my fat quarters this year and I was able to find some to work for these monthly blocks. As I've been going through my fat quarters each month I've been straightening them out in the 2 drawers I keep them in, so it's nice to see them looking better. I placed an online order at JoAnns yesterday for thread. I've found they don't have what I'm looking for when I go in the store, so I thought I would try a mail order. I added in some rotary cutter blades too. If I like doing this, I may just start buying all my regular thread online. Take care and have a great day!

CJ- I have ordered a ton of thread online- as a matter of fact that blue thread I was chatting about the other day was purchased online. What is great is that they almost always are in stock of the color you want, not always the case in the store. I think like you also and will throw in some rotary blades to help get free shipping. You are very good about cleaning your machine and replacing the needle every month. With all the quilt tops you make, your machine sure deserves to be cleaned and get a new needle monthly. I have heard that red is the most difficult color to match. As that is a primary component of purple, it’s no surprise to me that matching purples might not be easy to do. Yay!!! Glad your new lawn service worked out for you. Hope that they are easy to work with and very professional for you.
Busy day….glad it’s over with. No crafting, as Dd and the kids left sort of late. But all in all not a bad day. Hope Ruth had a good day too.

Ginny, I'm sorry that your oven has malfunctioned. It's still under warranty right? I hope you're able to get it repaired quickly and that they do a good job.
CJ,I'm so glad the new lawn service worked out and I hope it continues the same way. Yes there are so many shades of purple but I know you'll do a great job picking those that work together well in what you're doing with them. I've ordered thread online. It wasn't quilting thread though just thread that I thought would be good for my machine.I do a lot of online ordering since I'm too lazy to go out and shop.
Today started out pretty cool and rainy but improved well thru the day. I did crochet much of the day and finally did a little work. I finished my fruit hammock. Now I just need to find something that will work for hanging the ends on the wall.Dh was enthusiastic about the hammock and suggested places we could put others so I see a few more hammocks in my crocheting future or maybe hanging baskets depending on the locations. Not all the walls will work for hanging anything and, of course, you have to be careful that you don't hit wires.
I hope you both get a good night's sleep.See you tomorrow

Ruth, glad to hear that you have finished the hammock! Hope you find an easy way to hang it so that it makes your life easier and provides good storage. You are one talented lady!!! I wonder if you could purchase hooks to hang the hammocks with and use gorilla glue to attach to the walls? They claim gorilla glue can hold a lot of weight. Did you crochet more than the hammock? And how is your Dd doing? I remember about 2 weeks ago she was not feeling well.
I forgot to mention that I was able to get an appointment for my oven for Friday. Because its less than a year old the extended warrantee I bought is not in effect, the manufacturers warrantee is. So silly that my old stove lasted for so long with minimal repairs (all it needed was a new coil) and this stove is already causing trouble.
It’s supposed to be warm here today- in the low 70’s. Too early for me to face warm temps…but I am not in control of things like that😂. I have to practice some Easter music today and want to work on the baby quilt..
CJ- do you have plans to work on a quilt today?

Hello Ruth - Hope you are able to make some more of the hammocks to use for other things, I'm glad the fruit one came out well. Ginny - Hope they can fix your oven on Friday. I hear people saying all the time that newer appliances, etc., are just not made as well as older ones. Hope you get to work on the baby quilt. Weather here is very nice, sunny and in the high 70s. I'm glad the lawn guy came, I was starting to worry he wouldn't. I did hear from someone else who is a new customer of his that he has a health issue and is hoping it won't cause him to quit I do have another company I can call to see if they will cut my grass in case this new guy stops. I was able to get all the fabrics cut for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks, so they are ready to piece. I also cut some fabrics to make a small table runner using the Pat Sloan tulip block pattern, since she's doing a quick quilt along using that block. The new block from the "A Quilting Life" quilt along came out too, so I have it to make, it's a basket block and it should go together quickly. www.aquiltinglife.com/quilt-block-of-the-month-april-2023/Hopefully I'll get all these blocks done this week since I have a few other projects I'd like to get into. Take care and have a good day

Ginny, yes the new appliances have a very short life expectancy. I bought that new refrigerator several years ago and it lasted just until the warranty ran out.The last fridge I had lasted 30 years.I hope that this issue with your oven is just a monor glitch and the entire stove lasts for many years
CJ, that is a pretty basket block. Will you be using similar colors? I'm pretty sure you'll get all the blocks done that you have planned for this week. You are a very dedicated quilter and you have the ability to make those blocks fast and still have them looking great
Due to an unfortunate event with my potholders I had to throw them away so now I'm working on new potholders.I'm using the thermal stitch. I haven't made any of these in awhile but back when I made the originals I made quite a few and gave some to friends. The ones that I had to toss this morning were not ones that I made they were just store bought ones.

Ruth - Hope you like making the potholders using the thermal stitch. Sorry to hear you had an unfortunate event For the monthly block I linked to in my post, I'm alternating blue fabrics one month and green fabrics another month for this quilt along. This month is blue so I'll be using light blue, medium blue and white for the basket block. Ginny - I wanted to let you know that Fabric Cafe has a free pattern available for download - it came out today on their YouTube video. I'm not sure if you watch these, but wanted to let you know about the free pattern: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKXsWLBHp-Mwww.fabriccafe.com/Strip-Happy-Free-3-Yard-Quilt-Pattern-p/091530-free.htmInfo is for you too Ruth if you're interested

CJ- glad you able to find that free pattern from fabric cafe! It’s cute, and I like that it’s pretty easy looking, and cute too. Do you think you will try to make it? Think that the basket block in alternating blue fabric and then green will be adorable. It’s a really cute block. I am sure you will do a great job putting it together. I know you like the weather in the 70’s- hope you are able to keep your home comfortable. When is your thread order supposed to arrive?
Ruth, so very sorry that you had to get rid of some potholders. The thermal stitch is so nice and thick and makes a great potholder. Hope that you have a color yarn you like to make potholders for your home. Also hope that the directions come easily to you as it’s been awhile since you have worked on one of those.
I am guardedly optimistic that my stove will be repaired on Friday. We shall see. Guess I will run my errands before then so I can be home all day. I did get 5 rows of the baby quilt sewn- it’s going to be cute, I think. It’s going together easily, so I should be working on the other quilt in a day or so. Gotta figure out where I am buying fabric for the backing and border. Before I know it, it will be time for those fabrics.

Hello - Hope you are all doing well today and having good weather. It's already 81 degrees here! It's a nice sunny day though. Ginny - I sure do hope the stove is repaired with no problems. I'm glad to hear the baby quilt is coming along well, I'm sure it will be cute. I like that 3 yard free pattern, and it looks easy. I'll have to see if I can find 3 fabrics that would work for it. I see that my thread is supposed to be delivered tomorrow via FedEX. And they sent the rotary blades in a separate shipment, also coming by FedEx. I hope they deliver them at the same time. I was really expecting my order to come via the Post Office. Ruth - Hope you are getting some potholders made. I finished making all my monthly Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt blocks. I'm happy with how they are coming along this year. I think I might go ahead and finish making the Tumbler quilt instead of just working on it each month. I'd like to get that one done. I also ordered a few jelly rolls from the Fat Quarter Shop yesterday. I was really happy with how the jelly roll quilt I finished this weekend came out and I'd like make a few more like that. Hope you all have some time for crafting today and you have a good day

CJ, Yes I was interested and went to the site. The free pattern pictures are really nice and look easy enough that even I could do them. I'm sure the fabrics I have tons of are not really quilt fabrics except for a very few that I bought at a quilt shop about 20 years ago.I might try it anyway because it would just be for me.I'm glad you were able to get those blocks done and I do agree that if you want to get the tumbler quilt done rather than stretching it out over weeks or months you should just go ahead with it.
I ripped out the potholder I made yesterday because the edges weren't right. I had forgotten how to do that very last stitch to make the sides even so I'm working on it again today.
Ginny, you must be having another busy day despite being on vacation. Whatever it is that you're doing, I hope it's enjoyable and that you'll be able to get rested this week for going back to work

Good evening! CJ - glad your rotary blades arrived. I always marveled at how any of these companies can be making much off our purchases when they split orders like that and then use Fed Ex. The nice thing about Fed Ex is they usually take a picture of the delivery - so you know it was delivered. Hope the thread arrives soon.
Ruth- oh I hope you give one of those 3 yard fabric cafe designs a try! The one CJ posted is adorable and I really should download the pattern. Their instructions are good but at times confusing. I would strongly suggest reading the directions a bunch of times before starting. And CJ and I can also help decipher any trouble areas for you. Hope you were able to straighten out your thermal weave crocheting today. So frustrating when you need to rip out stitches.
Today my friends husband and I took my friend to the beach. She has had a few super stressful months- she loves the beach and we knew a day there would uplift her. The weather was not 100% cooperative but we still had a good day. I did spend some time looking online for flannel fabric to back the baby quilts. Think I might have found something that will work

Well, Dd just texted me asking if I can make a repair to an outdoor hammock. I have spent a bit of time researching outdoor thread and if my machine can handle it. She will have to pick up a larger needle (size 18) as I only have a 16. Think my machine should be ok with that….

Beginning to solve the saga of fabrics to use as a border and backing for the baby quilts. I found I had some adorable blue flannel which matches well. Fortunately the quilt shop has more of it and it’s on sale. So they put some aside for me. And I have another fabric in my stash that will be perfect for a border. The other baby quilt I will order fabrics- got them loaded in my cart and will place the order tomorrow.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day.
