I did have a good but cold day. Thank you Ginny, I'm glad you found the fabric that will work, both the one you found at home and the one that you will order tomorrow. I know your dd will be happy to have the hammock repaired. CJ, I hope all is well with you. We're going to shop tomorrow for food items that are on sale for Easter. I did get pot holders made and will make more at some point. Now I'm trying to decide what baby blanket to make next. There are so many pretty ones but most have holes that are too large.I do have that "Ginny" blanket which is nice and no holes but I want to make a couple more that will be enjoyed by those moms that worry about holes. I saw one that is made like a ripple/chevron but is a solid stitch and is wavy instead of a more peaked ripple or chevron and is crocheted in the I back loop to give it a ridged effect. I really don't care for ripple/chevrons myself and this one isn't a whole lot better in my mind but it's unusal because of the waviness.I'm also thinking of the star stitch and have a couple others in mind. Just need to make a decision.I also want to make hats for grandson and son. Son, like my dh has a fairly naked head and his head gets cold at night too so will make him a light one for sleeping. DDil told me he needed one so that's all I had to hear See you all sometime tomorrow

Good morning! Ruth, it’s so sweet to hear that DDIL told you your DS’s head gets cold at night- which obviously was a strong hint to make him a hat! Ha ha ha…will you make the same hat pattern for your grandson also? So now the challenge is for you to prioritize, what do you make first- the afghans you want to work on or hats? I do totally understand the challenge of making a baby afghan- and making sure that it is not full of places for tiny fingers to get caught. My alternate afghan pattern has a V stitch, and it does result in a slightly larger stitch with larger openings. It’s a pretty afghan but you first make the afghan and then crochet on top of the base the color stripe. A bit labor intensive. Anyway, I am sure you will find patterns that you can work with and will result in a nice afghan.
The hammock resulted in me spending a lot of time researching if my machine can handle canvas. I did speak with Dd- tried to explain to her what she will need to pick up from Joanns. She has a machine also, but I know that she does not really have the time to figure out how to repair this.
Got a phone call yesterday to confirm that they are coming late this am to repair my stove.
Looking forward to hearing what CJ is up to- and I hope she is doing well.
Hey, just a quick shout out to Phyl and Sue, who I hope are well.

Hello - Hope you are doing well today and having good weather. It was very warm here on Wednesday and Thursday, but today it's raining some and in the 50s. I'm happy to have the cooler weather since the house had gotten hot with the temps in the 80s. Ruth - I hope you were able to find all the groceries you need for your Easter meal. I also hope you figure out what stitch you want to use for the blanket. It's really great that you can make that hat for your DS. Ginny - I hope they come to fix your stove and that everything can get done today. Sounds like the baby quilt is coming along too. I finished making one of the monthly blocks and the one weekly block yesterday, so I'm all caught up with those. I pulled out another project to start on and made a test block, but I did not like how the fabrics looked together, so I scrapped that project. This morning I started on a new project where I'm using a large piece of repeating fabric that I don't want to cut up too much. I'm just going to cut it into wide strips - probably about 40 inches long and then I'm going to insert 3 rows of quilt blocks that are stars and diamonds. The repeating fabric is pretty with barns on it and it's in muted colors. I happened to have leftover fabric from a quilt I made last year that work really well with the barn fabric so I'm using those fabrics for the star and diamond blocks. Hope you get to work on some projects too and that you have a great weekend

CJ, the barn fabrics sound very cute. I'm sorry the other didn't work out but it's great that you discovered that before you spent too much time working on it only to find then that the fabrics didn't play well together. I forgot to mention that someone on one of the crochet groups started a CAL that is like your holiday QAL with a different square for each month. I'm not going to do it though because I would never keep up. I tried that Christmas one and only got one panel done. It had 5 or 6 panels you were supposed to do. I like the block for this month on the holiday one so I might make that and turn it into a full blanket. For most months they have an alternate choice.
Ginny, I sure hope that they can get your oven working today. Yes your dd must be an even busier woman than you since she has 4 children and also works. You asked about yarn for ds's and dgs's hats, well I have the yarn to use for dgs' and ordered a nice color of Mandala ombre for ds' hat.
We did go into town and got what we wanted. It's not really for an Easter meal just for everyday meals too. They had ham on sale and we got two. Dh has a lot of ideas of what to make using it and I can think of a lot more so we'll be eating lots of ham. They also had sweet potatoes which we both like a lot
now, time to wash dishes then crochet. Gotta make that blanket decision.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you found what you wanted at the store and hope you enjoy your meal tomorrow. Ginny - Hope they were able to fix your stove and you are having a good weekend. It's cloudy and cool here today, so not bad. I was able to finish piecing the quilt top using the fabric with the barns on it. I'm pretty satisfied with how it came out. I was mostly happy to get to use that fabric. I did something different on this quilt that I've never done before. Since the quilt was not very wide, but was long I added side borders that were twice as wide as the top and bottom borders. This helped get the width better and it looks fine. I'll have to remember this if I ever have another quilt that is not very wide. Take care

CJ, I'm glad you were able to do the borders so that your quilt was as wide and you wanted it. That works for crochet too if it's done right. Are you you having anything special for Easter dinner. It's a really good time to have something you might not have any time other than hollidays esp since Easter is associated with candy
I finally decided on what blanket pattern I'm going to do and it was none of the ones I had in mind yesterday. I did finish both my ds' hat and the one for dgs but dgs' may be too small so I might do another after I work on the blanket for awhile.
Ginny must be having a very busy day getting ready for Easter. I'll check later to see if you stop in, Ginny.I don't think any of my family are having a get together tomorrow.

Finally got here!! Ruth, congrats on a successful shopping trip for some yummy ham and sweet potatoes….I will be over shortly as I enjoy both. Glad you were able to order yarn for the hats- well you are ordering for Ds but already have the yarn for DGS. Just so nice that your crocheting efforts are appreciated. Sorry to hear that the had for DGS might be too small- I know you will figure out getting a hat made for him the right size. Did you begin work on the new afghan pattern?
CJ- that is awesome that you were able to use the fabric with the barns on it with another fabric you had on hand. I wonder if you are using some leftover fabric from the Moda block heads quilt- that had some muted tones in it. Anyway, it’s always a blessing to be able to make pretty things from what we have “laying around” and I am really glad to hear that you are pleased with the results. I like the idea of a wider border on the sides to make the quilt a better size/ more balanced. It must look great!!!
Yikes….another kooky day. Got up early, and drove to HL with my friend. I found the most adorable fabric for the one baby quilt (which I had seen online and wanted to see in person). I really like it and am so glad I picked it up. Also found a nice solid blue which I will use for the border and binding. That is a big relief for me, so Monday I can get back to work on that quilt.. Dd and DGS stopped over today… and I did some cooking for tomorrow.
Yesterday the repair man was here early for my stove repair. It needed a new igniter Coil. I saw how easy it was to access…and would be temped to replace it myself if it happens again. But let’s hope it does not happen again! I know igniter coils fail frequently….i can think about them going on an old oven or two…so at least it was not a major repair. He was done in much less than an hour. Great news for sure.

Ginny, it's great to see that you stopped in. I'm so glad that the stove repair went well and also that you were able to find a perfect fabric for backing and border. Do you have the batting? I know that your dd and dgs were happy to visit you and see you again....not that you don't see them often but it's always nice to see our children and grandchildren and for them to see you. So on the stove I'm guessing it's a gas stove. is that right? I know that a lot of stove components can be changed out by us. My dd's oven hasn't worked in a few years now. It's electric and the heating element went bad. I told her to go to Menard's and get a new one and told her how to change it but neither of them...dd and sil.did.and they don't have an air fryer or anything like that so sil who does most of the cooking makes everything on the stove top and has had oven ware shatter because of that. I would love to have a gas stove but gas was not available when we moved there. A few years ago they did put in gas lines but it was expensive to have it run to your house so we didn't bother. ll DH suggested I make both ds and dgs hats with yarn I already have so I did but all I have is bulky yarn and I just don't like the way they turned out...and yes there's the issue of size on dgs'. I'll make them both another. I did start the blanket. I haven't made a lot of progress but it's only been an hour I think
Ginny, I bet you made some yummy food for tomorrow. Did you make the dessert?

Forgive me, I am exhausted, running on 3 1/2 hours of sleep.
Yes, Ruth, I sat and watched the serviceman, and saw how easy it is to replace the coil. As he left the old coil and the box the new one came in, I took down the part number and have every intention of replacing the coil myself if this problem comes up again. Yes I have a gas stove. Grew up with a gas stove and well my area has gas lines, so I was happy to have a gas stove here. It’s what I am used to. Be thankful that you have electric, because the nut jobs are trying to make gas stoves and furnaces illegal, in the future. Yes I can see that bulky yarn would make a great hat for the dead of winter, but think you are making hats for sleeping. A finer gauge yarn would probably work better. Do you like the new afghan pattern? Is it easy to work with? Yes, I have the batting, got it at a great discount when I was at the quilt shop with Jane a month ago (had a coupon)
Doing most of the cooking for today. I did make the eclair dessert- really just graham crackers layered with a mixture of instant vanilla pudding and cool whip, covered with a chocolate frosting. So easy to make, and the kids love it. Well everyone loves it. Got a “free” turkey breast and will make some sides to go with it….its not meant to be a sit down winner, more like a dinner for easy picking on.
CJ- hope you have a great day and get some quilting time in.
As tired as I am, there is a good chance I do not get back here today. Happy Easter to all who read and stop in today!!! And tomorrow is Monday. Thankfully schools are closed here so I can just stay home for the day.

Oh, Ginny. I'm so sorry you didn't get much sleep at all. The dinner sounds wonderful. At my ds' house, being that there are so many of them, they put all of the food on an island they have and everyone goes to the kitchen and fills their plates and then steps to the dining area to sit, eat, and talk. Desserts are on a counter top. I do love the sound of your dessert. Unfortunately my dh doesn't like cool whip or anything made with it so if I made it I'd eat it all myself and that would not be good.
I hope you can get in a nap maybe or at least get a good night's sleep tonight.
One of the women who has a crochet youtube channel is always talking about coupon codes and how you can save a bunch of money using them. Well usually the company itself is having a sale or free shipping and you use a code for that and there is no way to put in a second code so I don't know how she does that. It's great that you had a coupon for that quilt shop.

Hello Happy Easter to you all! Ruth - I hope you enjoyed some of the food you bought at the store this week. I had a ham slice that I ate, since we always had ham at Easter when I was a kid. Ginny - Hope the family enjoys all your cooking and that you enjoy the holiday with the little ones - I think they make all the holidays more fun. It's a sunny day here, around 60 degrees - very nice. This morning I made one of the basket blocks for that monthly quilt along, this is the one I was making three versions of. I really like the patterns and the quilt along, but I'm just not very happy with the fabrics I'm using. I'm trying to decide if I'll go on with these fabrics or maybe pick out some other fabrics and make the blocks that have been done so far. It's only 4 blocks, so it wouldn't take long to be caught up. Take care

CJ- well by now you know me…if you are not pleased with the fabrics you are using you should try other fabrics. I cannot imagine working on a quilt (unless you had to make that quilt) in fabrics that you were not fond of how they were working out. Sounds like you have plenty of time to catch up if you do switch fabrics.
Ruth, the chocolate eclair “casserole”- really the cool whip does not contribute a taste because it and the pudding are absorbed by the Graham crackers. It’s a fun and easy desert. Like your Dh’s house, I no longer serve at place settings, but allow everyone to pick what they want to eat and just sit and relax. With many little kids, it’s the easiest way to dine.
Yes, got a 15 minute nap in. Dd#2 announced that she is pregnant- little one due in the mid fall!! She is tired- to be expected- but for the most part seems to be doing well. Guess I have to make another baby quilt~!
