Hello Ginny - Hope you enjoyed your DGD's graduation, I bet the children were cute Ruth - Sorry you didn't meet your monthly goals, but hope you can get things done next month The weather has still been very nice here - sunny and in the 70s. I haven't checked the long range forecast so I hope we don't get a lot of rain. I've finished two (of six) rows for the Friendship star quilt and almost have the next two rows done. I hope I can get them and the last two rows done this weekend. The thing that takes the longest is trimming the half square triangles - not my favorite thing to do but it does make for a much nicer block than not trimming. Take care and have a good weekend

Yikes! Hard to believe that I have not been here since yesterday morning. Not sure where the day went.
Ruth, ok so you have a good game plan to get through getting the crochetted items sent to your grandchildren at the appropriate time. I remember you sent a box once that was an obscene price (whatever happened to inexpensive shipping?). That being said, whatever happened to inexpensive anything?? Hope that you can relax a bit and get some crocheting time in.
CJ- so you are two thirds done with the friendship star quilt. That is exciting and great that you have met your goal for that. Totally agree that the trimming of the HST’s must be time consuming, but also must make life much easier , as you indicated. Time well spent for a perfect product. Hope that the rain stays well south of you this weekend. I could use some rain up here.
Cleaning and yard work took up a large chunk of my day- and Dd stopped by with DGS. A good day but tiring, got my 10,000 steps in without going for a walk thanks to lots of work. No crafting today, but I sure hope to get some in tomorrow.

no rain here either but we don't really need any right now.
CJ I bet you have a lot more of that quilt done today. Even trimming seems to go fast for you. Well to you maybe it doesn't feel that way
Ginny,I hope you can get in some crafting tomorrow.Yes that time I had to pay a ridiculous price for shipping I did have two fairly large boxes and it was gifts for 4 birthday so I did expect it to cost a bit but not THAT much. This last box the postal employee didn't measure it like the one did that charged me so much.
I got in a tiny bit of crocheting today but then got tired so had to take a nap.now I might go back to crocheting

Hello - Hope you are doing well today and having good weather. Looks like we might get some rain later and maybe tomorrow too. Ginny - Hope it felt good to get your cleaning and yard work done and that you get to do some crafting today. Ruth - Hope you were able to get some crocheting done last night. I did finish the quilt top today and I'm happy with how it came out. It was nice to make a red, white and blue quilt around Memorial Day. I had enough scraps to make a small table mat using a rail fence pattern. I'd really like to not start any bigger quilt projects again, but most of those I want to work on next are at least lap size. Guess I'll see if I can resist the temptation I'm trying not to start the next Pat Sloan weekly quilt along, but I have a perfect set of fabrics for it. I'm thinking about making one block just to see if I like the fabric combinations before making the full quilt. This quilt has mostly all half square triangles, so you can imagine I'm a bit traumatized after making 240 for the last quilt Here are a few links, they are the same quilt it's just that The Fat Quarter Shop already finished their quilt along: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/festivals-fireworks.htmlblog.fatquartershop.com/triangles-on-a-roll-quilt-along-kick-off/Hope you have a great day!

CJ- glad you are pleased with the quilt top- cannot imagine having made an entire quilt top and really not being pleased with it. Guess your ability to resist large quilt tops might rest on the ability to make certain quilts smaller, either by eliminating blocks or just selecting smaller quilts. I agree, it’s a lot of work to make a large quilt, and to keep enthusiasm for a large quilt can be daunting. Especially with warmer temps coming, who wants to play with a lot of fabric sewn into a large quilt? The fabric shop quilt along is so adorable. Actually both are, both are lovely colorful quilts. Red, white and blue are perfect for a split rail table mat….
Ruth, were you able to get some crocheting in after your nap? Please send some rain this way- My area sure could use some.
Trying hard to inspire myself into going to Lowes for some mulch and insecticide for my rose bush. Last night a friend from church was supposed to stop over at 7 (after a long day of house work and yard work). Well 7 became 9 pm (a whole lot late for me to have company). Good to see her - she did not leave until 10:30 which set me up for a poor nights sleep. I am dragging today and struggling finding my momentum. Think maybe I will head to Lowes, get that errand done and then try to inspire myself to work on the tshirt quilt.

CJ, I'm glad you like the quilt you were making and were also able to use the leftovers to make a rail fence table mat.I have a question about half square triangles. I think when I took the series of classes that we were taught to make those by sewing to strips together then cutting them and , viola, hst's done. Does that sound like something they would teach or that would work or do I have it all wrong. It was almst 20 years ago so my memory might not be working well.
Well you both heard of our problem with the make cardinal and I put the crochet one out there. Well the male cardinal has stayed away. Last evening I took the crochet one down. Bright and early this morning the male cardinal showed up and was out there hitting the window again and singing.I guess I'll have to put the fake one back up again temporarily.
I have been crocheting today and will continue this evening.
Take care and have a good night

Ruth, was the intent of putting the crochet cardinal in the window to attract or scare away the bird?

Ruth - There are lots of ways to make half square triangles. I've seen the strip method, but never used it. I like the two at a time method and the 8 at a time method best. Here's a video showing lots of different way to make them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB4gzrRlLsM

Ginny,, our intent was to scare him away because pounding on your window at daybreak really messes up our sleep

Thank you CJ, I do really like that you can put those blocks together with the others to make so many different looks on a quilt.
Ginny, it's too bad too that we have to scare him away because cardinals are so beautiful and I do love seeing them. I was really disappointed to find that the males are such a nuisance
