Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well today Ruth - I'm glad you made it home safely and didn't miss your taxi. I hope they get your water back on soon. My water has been off all day because they've been installing new water pipes up the road in front of my house for several months. Ginny - Hope it didn't get too hot there and you enjoyed the time with your DGS. I started sorting through my fabrics I'd set aside for bindings and some backing for quilt tops I've already made. I thought it would be pretty easy and it was for those that I had added a note to indicate which quilt they went with But I had some with no note at all and I realized those were ones that I had put aside before I taught myself to machine quilt and bind quilts. After I learned those things, I always put a note with my saved fabrics. The funny thing was I guess I've made so many quilt tops and they all blend together I couldn't figure out what quilt some of the fabrics were for. I still want to go through and re-organize my tops one day so many then I'll be able to match up the backings and bindings I couldn't figure out. Take care

Out where a friend is a friend….somehow I do remember hearing that song in my childhood- was it Gene Autry who sang it? Anyway, sounds Like the trip home was a bit of an ordeal- glad it all worked out with your flights and the taxi. As frustrating as it must have been, I would rather have a pilot who was excessively thorough than one who skipped through his flight pre checks. Glad that you got to crochet some at the airport, a good way to spend some time when all you can do is sit anyway. Welcome back…hope you can get your water turned on promptly.
CJ- as prolific a quilter as you are, I figure that it must be quite a project to get bindings/backings and quilts matched up. You did bring up an interesting point, your journey to attach bindings and machine quilt.(actually in reverse order). I do seem to remember the process of you conquering bindings. It sure does change how you look at quilts when completing them yourself is possible. Did you get your water restored?
Ok it got hot today but because it was in the 40’s last night, my house started the day off cool. I managed to go through the entire day with the house closed up once the temps started to climb. Right now I have just opened the windows it’s 75 and headed into the high 50”s. I figure I will turn the AC on mid day tomorrow. I did get the last of the t shirt panels trimmed. I am now just waiting for my Joanns order to arrive, which did ship. I can start working on the sashing for the blocks that I have done to getter through the project while waiting for the interfacing to arrive.

Yes that was Gene Autry's theme song.
CJ, I get very angry with myself when I pick up a project that I've started in the past and it has no info with it on what pattern I used, the hook size or what yarn it is (many times the label is gone) I try to put each project in it's own extra large Hefty bag with a note that has all that but I have to admit that I get very lazy and don't do it or just plain think I'll remember. I rarely do remember though. Those are the projects that end up sitting forever and sometimes I rip them out and make something else...which would not be easy at all in a quilt....or I let it sit even longer.
Ginny, I'm glad it didn't get too hot in your house today. Air conditioning is nice but it's even nicer when the weather itself is comfortable without having to spend all that money on electricity to run the a/c. I hope you get your Joann's order soon.
Today I was planning on getting yarn together for the things I'm planning on making for my new granddaughter who will make her arrival in the beginning of Sept. The blankets I was making while away were to be for her but most didn't get done because of lack of the right yarn. That's fine because even whenever I go back there she will need blankets. I did get the Jesus Loves Me car seat blanket done and my ddil loved it as did the rest of the family. I have a couple blankets done here for her but there are a couple more I'd really like to make and I want to make her a lovey and a crochet doll that's called the Sleepy Doll. There's a video on youtube for it and it's cute. I actually put a rattle type thing inside the one I made for my first great granddaughter. When I do that I make sure it's very safe and that the child will be unable to get it out and be harmed by it.I made her a really cute sweater before I left for my trip and today am working on a matching hat.I'd love to make the matching blanket but I made it with Lion Brand Jamie yarn which has been discontinued and it's a white which is very hard to match so I might make the blanket in another color completely or just not make that particular blanket for her.

Ruth- you sure do have your projects lined up! Will have to check out the Sleepy Doll, which sounds just so cute. Indeed whites are so hard to match. In the t shirt quilt video she discouraged using white as a border or sashing because whites are so difficult to match. It absolutely stinks that the Jamie yarn has been discontinued. I once found some discontinued yarn on ebay.
Gotta go get a birthday card written….and out for my mail man to pick up. BBL

Here's the link, Ginny, if you want to look it up. It's so very easy to make and would make a great baby shower gift combined maybe with something else crocheted or as a small birthday gift for a little one. It's easy for them to carry around and hug.

Hello The hot weather made it here today, it's in the low 90s right now. Upstairs will be hot today, but I'm trying to stick it out with just a fan for a few more weeks before I have to put the AC unit into the window. Hope your weather is nice. My water came back on around 7:30-8:00 P.M. last night, it had been off since 9:00 A.M. I had prepared for it so I was alright, it's just a hassle running the faucets and checking the toilets after it comes back on. I also had to go in the basement to make sure there weren't any pipe problems down there. Fortunately everything was alright. I'll be glad when they are done replacing this water main, this has been going on for months now. I finished going through all my fabrics for bindings and backing yesterday for quilt tops I've made and I put together a list of them. I have 40 quilt tops that I have binding for, 8 of those I have the backing for. Ah well, maybe someday they'll become quilts I also finished the binding on the small patriotic table mat and I cleaned my sewing machine, changed the new and put a new blade in my rotary cutter. I had an idea for another quilt with 3 coordinating fabric, so I started that this morning too. One of the fabrics is a pretty dark red with ice skates all over it. The other fabric is also kind of red and then the last one is a dusty pink. Hope you are finding time to do some crafting too. Have a great weekend

Ruth, the sleepy head doll is adorable! I cannot see myself making one (I kind of like flat things to make that do not involve changing stitch counts on each row).thanks for providing the link.
CJ would you consider asking your family to go through your quilt tops and each picking one out so that they would each have a CJ special home made quilt? Then finish those….the selected ones and the others can be donated. I dunno just an idea. Congrats on finishing the binding on the patriotic table mat and getting your machine cleaned up for the month. Now you are ready to get back to the job of making beautiful quilt tops.
Not sure what I will do this evening. Long day for me and I do not feel inspired to cut the sashing strips for the t shirt quilt. Joanns has not indicated when my package will arrive…but last month the same thing happened and my supplies came very quickly.

CJ, If you only made the 8 you have the backing for that would be an excellent accomplishment right there.I'm glad you finished that patriotic table mat. This is definitely a good time of year for patriotic items.
Ginny, yes sometimes the online orders are delivered very quickly and other times they seem to take forever. I hope you get your order soon and also have your needed time off from making the t shirt quilt before the needed suppies arrive. Sometimes we just have to have a little break
Well here it sure isn't in the 90's. It's been pretty cool these two days that we've been home. We had to run to the other side of town this morning to pick up a package at the post office. there are two of them closer but, of course, the one farthest away is the one they picked to hold dh's package at. This was due to a mixup by the post office on when we wanted our mail restarted. It was supposed to be restarted on May 31st. We'll see what happens. The good part of going there was that we needed to re stock our food supply and Friday is the day the grocery store over there has the inexpensive lean ground beef. They also had other meat on sale so we have pretty much all we need for now except eggs. We'll have to stop somewhere on Mon or Tues when we have to go out for dh's mri and next day the doctor visit.
I'm nearly done with the baby blanket I started while we were away and worked on in the plane and in the airport.I'm on the border now and just have two more rows of border to do ad a couple ends to weave in.I think that next I'll make that sleepy baby doll then another sweater. I have one more blanket I'd like to make then I'll get all that stuff mailed although I do have almost 3 months.I may have to make some little things for the rest of the family too before I send.
Please excuse the jumbled babbling. I got up early and am tired. See you all tomorrow

Ruth, it sounds as though you and Dh are really jumping right back into the swing of things after your visit. One aspect of being back home it that you know how to accomplish things errands- get things done. Sounds like you and Dh have a busy week ahead. I hope your mail is restarted as you requested. Great news that you are almost done with the baby blanket. You have an impressive list of projects ahead of you, which I know you will accomplish. It’s probably going to take a few days to get over a long day of travel and adjusting to the time change.
My Joanns order is supposed to arrive Monday. Not sure what I will work on today after I catch up on housework that I wanted to get done yesterday. With cooler temps it’s much more pleasant to get housework done.
CJ- what will you be working on this weekend?? Hope comfortable temps are in your area, which make it a pleasure to be home and getting things done. How are you faring at going through your household looking for items to donate?(A daunting task)

I really need to do some housework also. You would think that since I cleaned right before we left that there would be nothing to do cleaning wise now but that dust doesn't stay away. I'm glad your Joann delivery will arrive Monday. Of course that's always a busy day for you but during the week you may find some time to work on it. CJ, you have really inspired me to start decluttering.I've thrown away some things that have taken up room in my medicine cabinet and plan on doing the second bathroom's cabinet and under the sink vanities in both. Anything I don't use in the next month and has been sitting there for awhile is going in the garbage. It's not medicine of course (who keeps medicines in a medicine cabinet?) It's mostly body wash, a collection of deoderants, lotions, etc. Some have been in there a long time and I'm sure are not any good any more. I also have some stray yarns, mostly novelty yarns to dispose of. Will probably donate so someone else can keep them around and not use them .DH has agreed to let go of some things but I know he's going to be reluctant to actually do it. See you later

Ruth, somehow in the process of going from one place to another it kind of helps identify what needs cleaning out and what does not. I do know that you always deep clean your kitchen each spring. A great idea to clean out and get rid of items you and Dh are not using. Hope that he joins you in the effort. I wonder if in the process of cleaning out if you decide to use some of those items if you believe that they are safe for use.
CJ - hope you are having a great weekend!
I did get my normal Saturday housework done, which means not a lot of crafting. Last night I thought through my sashing strategy and started cutting sashing strips. I did sit last night calculating the way to get the most out of each strip, and have that figured out. Hope that today I can get to actually sewing some strips on. I am looking forward to being done with this quilt.

Ginny, I'm glad you were able to do a little work on that quilt. I think that tshirt quilts would be a challenge to everyone. They are so stretchy. I hope you can complete it soon and have that off your mind.
CJ, did you get done all that you hoped to do this weekend.
It's rained here every day since we got back. On some days there was not much and didn't rain for any length of time on any of the days and I'm sure it will clear up at some point today too.
I didn't get much crochet time in yesterday but I did finish the blanket and started on the doll. It's pretty easy to do. I also saw another one on youtube that I've put on my list.I have crocheted today too and have to get something together to work on while waiting for dh's MRI to be done.Maybe I'll start another blanket. I don't want to work on anything complicated since it's a busy waiting area and there are a lot of distractions. I'll probably start a crumpled griddle stitch blanket.
I hope you both have a wonderful day.

Ruth, that is great that you were able to complete the afghan and get a head start on the doll. Wonderful news that it’s a pretty easy project. Good idea not to bring anything too complicated when you are waiting for Dh’s MRI- is he claustrophobic and might he be bothered by the closed in aspect of it? A crumpled griddle stitch ?? Never heard of that stitch before, and will have to check it out later on.
CJ- how was your day?
Cut a little bit more sashing and decided that I cannot really work on the sashing until the rest of the blocks are made and I need the interfacing for that. ( supposed to arrive tomorrow). I did get the first 3 rows of the baby quilt done and the layout done. So I did get some crafting in…and tomorrow is Monday.
Ruth, wish you could send some rain this way.its awfully dry here.

Ginny, so you got a head start on the second baby quilt so I think you accomplished a lot. The interfacing will arrive so whenever you have time you'll be able to work on the t shirt quilt and before you know it, both will be done.
I still have to start whatever I decide to take with me to work on tomorrow. Of course there's always hats which are very easy to work on while in a public and busy place. I have the doll almost done. I have only the two arms then put those and the head on the body and put on two lines for the closed eyes with embroidery thread.
CJ, I hope you have had a good weekend.
Tomorrow is another week again. See you then.
