I must say it’s a beautiful weather day here…my area does need rain but today the temperatures are cool and the sun is shining. I am thankful that it comfortable and not too hot.
Ruth, prayers that DH’s MRI goes smoothly and that you are able to spend some good time crocheting. Absolutely, hats are a perfect solution for a small project, easy to work on in a waiting room. That crocheted doll must be so easy for you to do, sounds like you are almost done with it!
CJ- hope that you had a great weekend. Did you find anything interesting on the blogs and web sites that you research new projects from?
So…….I ended up calling Dd yesterday asking her a question about the handyman we both use (who will be at my house today repairing the fascia board on one side of the house). Only in that conversation did I find out that DSIL is home today and I do not have to babysit.🤦‍♀️ I do still have to watch DGS#3, who I am leaving shortly to bring back here to watch. So glad I called otherwise I would have driven to DD’s house for nothing. It’s approaching the end of the school year, so schedules are a bit hard to keep track of.

Good morning everyone. Well in all the 33 years we have lived here I've never seen fog. This morning we have thick fog. It's so weird.Sometimes in the winter we have ice fog but it's never as thick as this. I can't even see the neighbor's house. I'm glad we don't have to go out till later. Ginny, the good thing about watching both children is that they can keep each other occupied.I'm sure you'll have a good time with just the one little person.I'm glad you called and out that you didn't have to drive all the way to your dd's house. Can I borrow your handyman? We definitely need one. Not long before we left on our trip a piece of our fascia came off. Dh climbed up on a ladder to fix it. Right after that was when the doctor told him not to climb any ladders or anything high. We could use a good handyman. We used to know a man who was the handyman for a friend. The friend is deceased and I haven't seen the handyman since. Ok, gotta go get my crochet things together to take with me. See you later

Ruth, how did Dh’s procedure go? Gee, I wish I could send Anthony your way. He took care of a whole mess of things and replaced the fascia board, also provided a support for it (behind the fascia) so now it will not do what it did before. Now he is replacing the steps on the deck, something that needed to be done. Perhaps next year I can ask him to replace the treads on the floor of the deck. We have cared for it over the years but it’s 30 years old. I got his name from a friend. She got his name from Lowes (sort of like Home Depot)- where he used to work and then decided to go out on his own. Do you still have a contact for that handyman? Or perhaps even put a request out on facebook? What did you end up taking with you to work on?
DGS is still asleep- it’s over 2 hours now. Had him outside a LOT this am and this is the reward. Think DSIL should be here in about 20 minutes. I did get to finish sewing all the rows of the baby quilt, and now need to iron them. That is for another day. My Joann’s order did arrive, so I can go back to the tshirt quilt, which I might do being that the baby quilt rows are all done.
CJ, hope you are enjoying some nice weather.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - That is some thick fog you had, I hope it cleared off before you had to go out for your DH's medical appointment and that his test went well. Ginny - I'm glad you have a good handyman to help you with things and that he got a lot done today. Hope you can get your baby quilt ironed and get back to working on the TShirt quilt. The weather has been pretty nice here and fortunately not as hot as the 90+ degree day. I was busy most of the weekend doing things around the house. I put the window AC unit in my bedroom window. I was hoping to wait for that but after that 90 degree day it was miserable trying to sleep so I decided to go ahead and get it set up. I'm holding off on the portable AC for downstairs until I absolutely have to set it up. I finished the quilt top using the ice skating fabric and it's alright. I've been pushing myself to use up some of these fabric groupings that I had put together several years ago, this was one of them. But I might take a break from some larger quilt tops for a bit. This one was 60x68 - a nice lap size. All the monthly quilt along block patterns start coming out this week, so those will keep me busy. I'd also like to go through some of the things in my sewing room and see what I can throw out or donate. There are many things that I know I'll never use or make and I think I have a lot of thread that might be old too. I've read that if you pull on the thread and it breaks easily then it's old. Hope you all get to do some crafting too. Take care

Ginny, I'm glad you have those strips sewn together and that your materials arrived from Joann's so that you can work on the t shirt quilt. It does sound like you have a really good handyman. No we have no idea what became of our friend's handyman. I don't even remember his last name.I bet your dgs really enjoyed being outdoors with you. Sounds like he got a lot of good fresh air and was ready for a nice nap. Of course if he's well rested now due to his over 2 hour nap and it keeps him awake late your dd and dsil maybe won't be happy that he got in a great nap CJ, yes those are good size quilt tops. I imagine that after making large ones that you might be ready for a smaller project. And yes, all those block a month projects really do keep a person busy. To ok I just lost a big portion of my message so I'll wait till another time to re post

CJ- they say when thread gets old it should be thrown out. I wonder if that is all threads or just cotton? I did get rid of a lot of thread from my mom and her threads were probably way way too old.
Ruth, how did it go with Dh and the MRI? Hope the process went smoothly

Hello all. I hope you are all having a good day...even a great day.
I have a whole bag of thread I'm planning on tossing because I know it's really old plus it's the really cheap thread. I bought new good thread for my machine and rarely use any for hand sewing. I am thinking of making lined little pouch bags so might keep a couple for that. You don't need good thread for sewing them into the bag and for the bottom and sides I'll be using the machine with it's good thread.
We did go for dh's doctor appointment to go over the mri results. Results weren't great but not as bad as the neck. We also found out that this doctor is not going to be the one doing surgery on dh's neck. Apparently we have only two back surgeons here who are very busy so we have to see him for an initial visit to talk about and schedule the surgery which this doctor told us not to expect to be scheduled until October which was what we were thinking ourselves. Then dh is supposed to go back to PT1-3 times a week for up to six weeks. Then we have to see our pcp and eye doctor and a CT of his lungs so we'll be busy. Lots of crochet time.I'm sure there will be preop blood tests and ekg too.
today was trash pickup day so I got rid of a few things that were not "donateable" Now I'm going to go and weed out some of my clothing to donate.

CJ- hope you had a good day, it’s not often that you miss checking in with us on a week day. I know the struggle of cleaning out and downsizing…l
Ruth, think throwing out that thread is a good idea, the combination of cheap thread and it being old makes it a liability- i would not want to see you use it for a project and the thread is not up for the task. Sorry that Dh’s MRI results were not great, but you also mention that they were not as bad as his neck. I pray that he can be effectively treated so that he will be more comfortable. From what I am hearing from others, it’s a process getting anything done medically with a specialist, and with all the testing October will be here before you know it. However if he is uncomfortable - that is rough being in pain for 4 months. It sure does sound like a lot of doctors visits for him, and time in a waiting room for you. What project did you decide to work on in the waiting rooms?
I had a class to attend today (the last to keep my training certifications up) and then went to BJ’s. This evening was members night at the small zoo my DD’s both belong to- a really fun evening when the zoo stays open late (so all the nocturnal animals start coming out) and there are some special activities. It’s a fun night, we always enjoy going. The bad part was that the air quality is poor- smoke from wild fires in Quebec are the cause. I had a good time with the grand babies…but am glad to be home.
Got DGS#3 here tomorrow…and I had my last day of babysitting the other grandkids for the school year. Kind of sad, but I will also enjoy having the time to myself.

Ginny it definitely does sound like fun to attend zoo activities in the evening when you can see the nocturnal animals along with the others. And the fun activities with the children sounds great too. It's too bad the air quality was bad though. Yes, you will miss having the other grandchildren/child for the summer but you can, of course visit and have them visit so its a win-win as they say.
CJ, I was wondering too if you are ok. I hope you were having a good day. Going through things to dispose of in one way or another often brings back memories some of which may be pleasant and some sad.
Ginny, the item I worked on while waiting was the Virus blanket or as the youtuber calls it, the Peek a Boo blanket. After the first two rows are figured out the rest is very easy and it does go fairly fast although it's started in the center and worked outward so each row gets longer around. I was thinking that since I want to use up a lot of yarn this coming year and this blanket is very conducive to being used also for scrap busting, it would be a great thing for me to make for each of my older grands aka my dd's children. I already made each of my ds' children a blanket this past year. However, you know how much I change my mind.I see new things and want to make them and then there are still a few things I want to make for the new baby.I think for my oldest grandson I'll make a Which Way Filet blanket since this one looks too feminine.
Now there's a new thing added to my list of appointments...well two actually. I have to take my car to be checked because it's doing a weird thing it's never done before. Online they say it's normal but my car has never done it before. The car dealer is way over on the other side of town even past the Ortho group office. I also have to see my own doctor for yet another UTI. I also have a lot of yard work to do.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well today Ginny - The nighttime zoo visit sounds interesting, I'm glad you were able to do that. We have hazy skies here from the wildfires, but I'm sure it's much worse where you are. Ruth - I'm wishing your DH the best with all his medical appointments and the surgery later this year. Sorry to hear about your car problems, I hope they can fix them. And I hope that you feel better soon too. I haven't really been doing any decluttering for several days, since I have other stuff going on. I will have to get some things packed up to be ready for a donation pick up next week. I made the next block of the month for the quilt along by "A Quilting Life" and it was interesting making so many flying geese units. It's a pretty block and the pattern wasn't too hard, just a lot of pieces: www.aquiltinglife.com/quilt-block-of-the-month-june-2023/The new basket block of the month came out too, but I haven't been able to work on that yet. Here is a link to the YouTube video. I really like her basket in the Christmas fabric (you can see all 3 versions of the baskets near the end of the video): www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9Ft4LimfUQTake care

Ruth, the car can wait, the yard work surely can wait….hope you can get in touch with your doctor quickly to get on an antibiotic for the UTI. They are so uncomfortable and the longer you are uncomfortable, well it’s very painful to say the least. Hope you can get seen or perhaps even just drop off a specimen to get medication. Hope that the car is nothing….and that they are right its just another aspect of normal. The virus blanket sounds great- ya gotta love it when a pattern uses up a lot of scraps or extra materials.
CJ- glad to hear from you!!! Hope that all the other stuff which you are working on is pleasant and something you want to work on. Sometimes the things of life can sure take up our time and effort. Glad to hear that the next block of a quilting life went easily and that you are pleased with it. I will check out the basket block as soon as I submit…it sounds very pretty.
Had DGS here today. He was very good, especially because he loves to be outside-many we had to stay inside. The air quality is awful. I did - while he was napping, finish ironing the baby quilt rows and cut the last bit of interfacing for the t shirt quilt

CJ, I love flying geese and those blocks are no exception. I love the basket blocks too and agree that the Christmas color ones are spectacular. I enjoyed watching her make them too. Thank you for those links and thank you for the kind thoughts on my dh's medical visits and surgery.
Ginny, yes the car and yard can definitely wait. If I still have symptoms in the morning I'll call. They seem to have unreasonable rules for treating UTI's at that medical facility. You can't get a prescription by phoning in even though they know that you are well aware of the symptoms and you cannot drop off a specimen for them to dip the little stick into. You have to be seen first to tell them in person that you have symptoms then they send an order to the lab that's on the premises and someone there does the stick dipping and lets the doctor know and finally you can get a med prescribed. I can't even see my own doctor because she's always too busy so you get to see whoever has a little time available and they basically do nothing. It's ridiculous.
I'm sorry your air is so bad. I know the little fellow was disappointed that he couldn't be outdoors
