Hello - Hope you are doing well today and having good weather. It's warm and hazy here with bad air quality. I think it's supposed to get better tomorrow. Ginny - I hope you were able to get some quilting done on the TShirt quilt. Ruth - Hope you are working on your projects. This morning I was able to get all the pieces cut for the blocks of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Now I can decided if I just want to make them over the next few months, or make them now. I kind of think I'll probably just make a few at time and get them done in July. Since it's almost the first of the month all the monthly block of the month patterns will be coming out soon. Take care

CJ, you always have an excellent plan for your projects and getting them done. Then you're not afraid of changing your mind when you feel that you need to do that for one reason or another. It's great to be flexible.
Ginny, I hope you were able to make headway on the t shirt quilt. I bet your dgd can't wait until it's time to actually make her own quilt.
Well I finally got the second bootie done...well except for the buttons on it. There's a little flap with a button on each cuff. I had to rip it out twice. Once last evening because when I got don't with all that ribbing I realizied I had picked up the wrong yarn. I'd been wondering why it looked different than the other one. Then today I got all the ribbing redone and realized that I had done it in the wrong direction around the bootie so the flap faced the wrong way. Well at least I got practice doing that type of ribbing. This evening I'll work on Christmas gift blankets again.
We just had what I consider a torrential downpour. Streets flooded again.
Have a great evening

Looks like everyone is having a very busy day. I haven't done a lot except the normal everyday things then I started another car seat blanket. I made one of these before with the hearts and words "hugs" and "love". It's easy as long as you write the numbers contained in each row so that you get those hearts and words right. I've finished the first section and have 3 more to go.
It rained really had here earlier at three different times. You'd never know now because it's bright and sunny.
I'll be back later to see if anyone stopped in.

CJ- an excellent plan for you to get your blocks done now, or later when you are ready to do so. Think making them a few at a time is an awesome idea. Allows you to get the rainbow scrap challenge quilt blocks done and also work on other projects. Nice to be organized for sure! Like you its hazy and the air quality is poor. Sure hope that the fires in Canada end and that our air quality improves soon.
Ruth- you had mentioned that you wanted to make another car seat afghan. Sounds like you are making good progress being already 25% of the way through. Did your area need the rain? Hope it all drained and did not leave too much of a mess. The booties? Well you got good practice making them with the ribbing.
I did get some more quilting done on the tshirt quilt and also spent some time looking at patterns and fabrics for DGD’s quilt. As a matter of fact I have to order the pattern for the quilt as MSQ has free shipping today.
See ya tomorrow G

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well today and having good weather. I think the air quality is better today, it's in the 80s and a bit cloudy. I finally caved in and set up my portable AC unit downstairs, so it adds a bit of coolness to the room. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get some quilting done on the tshirt quilt. Hope you find a nice pattern for your DGD. Ruth - I'm glad your projects are going well. Hopefully you needed the rain. I haven't started piecing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks, but all the pieces are cut and ready. I've been busy with more decluttering. Yesterday and today I was working through some business files and computer things. I found a bunch of CD-DVDs that I had to check to see what was on them and now I have a small stack of them to destroy. I have several old hard drives that I need to destroy too. This morning I made a few small (3.5 inch square) Shoofly quilt blocks. I'm thinking about doing a 100 day challenge and making 100 of them - we'll see I'm only using my 2.5 inch squares to make them, so it would use up a lot of those, which would be nice. Hope you get to do some crafting today. Take care

CJ, I know what you mean about computer components. We have several old desktop computers that dh has been going to remove the hard drives from but he hasn't gotten to it yet. We even have some old floppy discs for some old game called sim city and also some that have pictures of my son's oldest that were in with a portait package. I asked my son if there's anyway to play them now and copy them to a current laptop and he said know so I'm going to dispose of those. Because of your inspiration I has in my craft room again attempting to bring order and I found several things to put on the donate pile. Well you will get you Rainbow scraps blanket put together when you get a chance and in the meantime it sounds like you're planning your future project. Ginny, I hope you're having a good day. Hopefully the tshirt quilt is working up well with no misdirections. I think it would be hard to take out stitches in t shirt fabric. For some reason I thought that your dgd was making a rail post quilt and that you already had a pattern. I remember back when you had one as your avatar. It was beautiful. It's my kind of quilt. I even watched a video for one the other day. Ok, well since I was in with my mountains of yarn I'd better get busy and use some of it up. I started yet another car seat blanket because the one I was working on yesterday was being made with #4 yarn and I wanted a more delicate one so now I'm using dk or #3 yarn and hook the pattern calls for. See ya later

CJ- glad your air conditioner is out and ready for use. Thinkhotter weather is supposed to be with us toward the end of the week, its nice to be ready for that. Do you have plans on how to destroy the hard drives? Glad you are making good progress decluttering, hope it encourages you to continue. Where did you get the inspiration for the shoo fly quilt blocks? Sounds like fun- and I know if you set your mind to it you will be able to do it!!
Ruth, I remember you just started another car afghan . Did you have the smaller yarn in the house- I feel pretty confident you had a smaller hook, as we have discussed that before that we both have plenty of hooks. Yes, you are right, DGD is making a split rail quilt with an alternate block. (The alternate block is just a plain single fabric block). The split rail quilt I had as my avatar was probably the red, white and blue quilt I made for my DSIL. They are easy to make and I know you would be just fine making one.
in the past I destroyed hard drives by burning them in the firepit or smashing them. Creative eh? Between yard work and a nice visit from DD and DGS, I got no crafting done today. Late last night I ordered the pattern for DGD’s quilt, and am looking forward to getting that. I want to see if I can modify the pattern to make a slightly smaller quilt. I think that should be fairly easy to do.

Ginny, yes I remember that you said you had made the split rail fence quilt for someone else but I didn't remember exactly who it was and yes it was red, white, and blue. I'm sorry you weren't able to work on the quilt today but I bet you had fun with dgs. Maybe you'll have some time tomorrow after church. I did have the yarn in the house, yes. I even have enough of it to turn this car seat blanket into a larger blanket and I think I"ll do that. The words and hearts will be the center of the blanket and I'll put a very wide border around it. I'm not sure what stitch I'm going to use for that yet. How's your garden doing, speaking of yard work? I didn't even plant flowers this year even though I had plans to do so I have a lot of yard work yet to do and with all this rain the grass is growing. Well sometimes you have to admit you were wrong and today is the day for me to do that. I made another loaf of whole wheat bread and heated the liquid to a little over 115 degrees. Well it worked. The bread rose very nicely and is about the size of a normal loaf of bread. I haven't cut it yet to see what the texture or crumb looks like but I don't know why it wouldn't look great. I hope you both have a good night's sleep. See you tomorrow

Good morning! Ruth, so happy to hear that the whole wheat bread worked out nicely and it seems that heating the liquid to 115 (perhaps a little bit more as you mentioned) did just the trick. I have baked a lot of bread in the past, and know it’s a quirky process. Humidity can be a problem, and I have found that sometimes, for no specific reason known to the baker, a loaf (or rolls or whatever) just does not rise like it should. It’s great that your loaf rose as it should and it sure sounds like the crumb is great also. Yum….. How is Dh feeling after the injection - has it helped? Glad to hear that you have the yarn in your stash to complete the afghan. I assume that it’s for your newest DGD, so a larger car afghan will be great for the fall and winter. Sounds like it will be very pretty, and the words and hearts in the center will make it extra special.
Hard to believe that 2023 is at the fifty yard line….half over.
Garden? Ugh. The deer jumped over the fence and ate my garden. I am reasonably sure its them as its fenced or blocked on all 4 sides and the hostas I have planted along the fence are mostly eaten (deer love them). For some reason they left my potatoes and pumpkin plants alone. And this year they also left the rhubarb alone. I do have squash and green beans on the deck (along with a black berry bush that I bring in for the winter). The deer cannot get them!!! And my grapes are looking awesome, I have a lot on but they do not mature till the end of August. The apple tree is loaded….but that is fairly typical for apple trees. I do not spray it, so usually it does not produce too many apples that actually ripen. So there you go….all the stuff that is edible growing in my yard. I did spray yesterday for poison ivy. The herbicide I have is a few years old and while it’s working, it’s not as effective as it used to be. I am almost at the end of the spray bottle and will, I suppose, have to pick up another bottle.
Humid here and a bit rainy. I opened the window last nite to get some fresh air, and it’s closed again now. Thankfully the air quality is better. Looks like some much warmer temps are predicted for me in a few days.
CJ- hope you check in today and that your AC is keeping you comfortable if its hot where you are.

Ginny, so sorry to hear that the deer ate your garden. It's a good thing you planted some where they couldn't get it.When I did plant things and we had an actual garden spot it was fenced in but the deer and antelope but were sometimes able to somehow get in anyway. Then when we couldn't dig that big spot anymore I started planting tomatoes in pots but had to keep moving them closer to the house.
I don't think we're going to get any rain today for a change but it's a little hot..in the 80's.
Oh Ginny I've been meaning to ask, how did things work out for your son on his encounter with the deer?
Last night I worked on the waffle stitch blanket because it's pretty much a mindless pattern. I can't really work on keeping track of putting in bobble while someone is talking to me. I know he wouldn't talk if I asked him not to but we don't have much talking time because of his unusual sleeping times.
CJ, I hope you're having a good day. Did you check out the Sunday info for quilts?

It’s always neat to see what good stuff CJ finds when she cruises the blogs and posts on Sunday!
well, Ruth, do not blame you for reverting to the waffle stitch- even though it is mindless. Very considerate that you adjust your timing to coordinate with when Dh is awake. You are blessed to have each other. I know you know that. And 80’s are hot. yes, you do not mind it that warm but still please remember to stay hydrated. Our bodies do not cool themselves as well as when we were young adults. And if we are no longer young adults, then what does that make us? Naw….do not answer that one!!!
Thanks for asking. Geico did a wonderful job handling the repair on Ds’s car. The repair shop (authorized by them) produced 5 pages packed with items they checked or replaced to assure that his car was brought back to its practically brand new condition. The repairs are done and it looks great.
Got a few minutes in on the tshirt quilt. I did spend a fair amount of time researching, looking for a Bible study book for me to do with a woman from my church. I know she feels very lonely (she divorced quite awhile ago) and, well, its a couples world out there and this woman does not have many friends. I offerred to go through a study with her (figure we would each work on it independently and perhaps discuss together every other week. I did find 3 study books that might work, will leave the final decision to her. She does sound interested in doing this.
Drum roll………..tomorrow is Monday. At some point tomorrow I am heading to Walmart and will have practice in the evening.
Sleep tight!

Oh, Ruth, my garden has a fence, but Bambi gets in it anyway. I do have barbed wire, which is my next resort to run that over top of the fence to prevent them from jumping in.
