Boy, CJ you are so organized. I can imagine that you keep the monthly block cut fabrics in zip lock bags, and well marked at that, so that you do not get pieces confused. So many different pieces and fabrics. Think I would struggle at keeping it all straight. Are you happy with the current Pat Sloan quilt along? Yes that would be a large quilt, but if it’s one that you really like and you think that the borders will make the quilt blocks stand out, then I would be inclined to add the borders. Do you have plans on quilting and finishing this quilt?
Like you, it’s warm here and my AC is on a lot.I struggle sleeping in this weather, even with AC and fans, and really do not sleep well until it gets down below the mid 50’s. Guess I have to wait quite a few weeks until that happens. I am getting my walks in very early while it is still at or around 70 degrees. Did not get much done today, as I drove to pick up the grandkids to bring them here for music class. This new instructor is very high energy and my grandkids LOVED her. All 3 of them were jumping around, clapping, singing…doing exactly what they were supposed to. I will take them back next week for sure. And, thank you Lord….I was able to get both cats into carriers and to the vet. So glad that is over with for a year….( will probably not take them next year). the female is so shy I was afraid I would traumatize her and that she would be extra shy. She seems a bit less friendly but cooperated well with the vet and life will return to normal for her.
Not sure if I will get any quilting in today. Been a busy day and I slept awfully last night.
Ruth - hope you stayed comfortable in the heat.

CJ, that's definitely a very large quilt. If you want borders you should do it. CJ, yes I do enjoy looking at the crocheting videos at least the ones that have interesting stitches.
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that the children really enjoyed the music program. Having you take them to it is something they will remember. I'm sorry you didn't get much sleep. It was at least 90 here today but heat doesn't keep me from sleeping. I'm glad the kitties cooperated. It's not easy to get a cat into a carrier or even into the car if they decid they don't want to do it.
I miscalculated on the blanket and know realize I won't have it done this week after all so I'll have to be happy with having it done by the end of next week. Most of the other blankets I've chosen (so far) for the rest of the grands will take less time I think.I do have two more blankets in progress that I forgot about so will probably finish those for a couple of the grands.

Ruth, this large afghan is for DGS (your oldest?) so I can understand that its going to be a process to get it crocheted to completion. When it gets done it gets done, unless you promised it to him for a certain date. Afghans are a lot of work, but at least the stitch counting is easier than a garment.
I slept well last nite, but considering the 3 nites prior, I kind of had to sleep well. The cats are still a bit rattled, one has been up for breakfast, the other not (but I have seen her). She is my shy girl and I suspected that she would not react well to the ordeal. Getting her in a cat carrier was not pretty but once the cats are in they are easy to transfer into the car.
Got some internet issues, so I have the cable company coming this morning to try to straighten it out. Today the internet is good, but some days it’s sketchy.
CJ- hope you slept well and are planning on getting some quilting time in today.

Poor little kitties! I feel bad for them since I don't like to go out either. I hope the shy one gets over her trauma fast.
Although this was supposed to be a large afghan I realized last night that it isn't as wide as I wanted it to be. I don't know what took me so long to notice that. Now I will have to get creative in order to have it a good width. I either can make it wider or just tell him it's a lap blanket. I'd still put on a wide border. It is wide enough that it covers me well in width and he's slim so it will cover him too while he's sitting watching a movie or playing a video game. I still plan on making it longer too. This stitch is a real yarn eater but that's what I wanted since I need to reduce the size of my yarn stash.
Dr office called with results of the CT that dh had and his "mass" is still where they just want to repeat the scan in a year.
It's hot here again. I was planning on doing some weed pulling but it may still be too hot. I'll decide soon

Hello Everyone It's hot and sunny here. Ginny - I'm glad the grandkids had a good time, sounds like a good program and it's great they can go again next week. I'm glad the cats made it through the vet exam O.K. too. Ruth - Glad to hear your DH's test results were alright. Hope you can get your blanket done this week. I will probably go ahead and finish this quilt in the large size, but I'm tempted to only use part of the blocks and make it smaller and then use the rest of the blocks for another project. I don't know, I'd just like to get this one done. There is no way I'd ever attempt to machine quilt an 80x80 quilt myself This morning I was able to cut the fabrics for three of the monthly quilt alongs, and the fabrics for the first row of the current Evergreen FQS Christmas quilt along. I had enough time to go ahead and make the first row of the Christmas quilt and I hope to get the blocks made for the other ones over the next few days. The system I use to keep track of my projects works well for me. Each large 2 gallon ziplock bag has all the fabrics I'm using, the extra pieces after I cut blocks, the blocks I've made and all the copies of the pattern. All I have to do is pull the bag off the area where I keep all the ongoing projects and everything is in it. I decided to scrap the Shoofly block a day project. It wasn't turning out like I'd hoped. I'd rather use those 2.5 inch squares for something else that I don't have to cut them down to size for the project. Hope you both get to do some crafting and that you have a good weekend. Take care!

Ruth - I meant to let you know about a video I watched where the quilter was making a decision on whether to keep an unfinished project, finish it, or let it go. Several people commented they are crocheters and that they used her process to help them decide. I'll add a link to the video below in case you would like to watch it. What I found interesting is that she did end up making most of the projects she pulled out, or she found another purpose for them. (I recently found two counted cross stitch pieces that my father made, and I cut them down and put them in frames so I can enjoy them.) I don't really have a lot of projects like she did since I don't like to start something I won't finish. But I do have a few and I feel like when I went through my storage totes in my sewing room, I made a decision on which ones to keep. Now I just need to work on them And I do have all those orphan blocks to put together into a couple of quilt tops. www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7rCCyzZQ58

CJ, that's a good video. She had good idea and I liked the first two projects that she decided were worth finishing and also those orphan blocks that she sewed together then decided she didn't like them. I hope she gave that quilt top to someone who will also like it.I have several that would fit in her category of "not worth finishing" and I'll rip them out and either use the yarn for something else or donate the yarn if it's some I never want to use. People are very happy to find yarn in thrift stores. It sounds like you got a lot done yesterday but then you usually do
lI did get some done on the blanket but want a little more length before I start working on the sides to make it wider.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. I think I'm going to pull out a few my old handwork pieces that are unfinished and just spend some time on them and if I don't enjoy it then I know it's not worth finishing them. Ginny - Hope you are having a good day. This morning I made 6 of my monthly blocks and I just have 4 more to make. I hope I might be able to finish them tomorrow. I'd love to be caught up with all the monthly projects by mid-month. It's hot here today, but I haven't been outside. I didn't get any mail, so I enjoy not having to go out. I should probably go outside tomorrow just to check around the house after the strong thunderstorm we had yesterday evening. Hope your weather hadn't been bad and that you both get to do some crafting. Take care

CJ hot here today also, and I too did not get any mail. Glad you got your monthly blocks done, that is a good feeling of accomplishment. Hope you can stay cool and comfortable tomorrow, Thanks for posting the video, sounds interesting and I will go check it out.
Ruth, that is great news about Dh’s scan, and that they are just going to keep an eye on things. I am sure you will figure out a way to make DGS afghan a good size, sounds like a border will be needed to make it wide enough.
Yesterday was busy, as was today. Dd came over and was here a lot today. Glad I got most of my housework done yesterday and the rest done today. I was going to go outside to read but its just too hot and so humid. Supposed to get heavy rain tomorrow. Good day to stay inside and sew

Well I stupidly hadn't been checking my rows as I went along for today finally laid it out and found that I made a mistake way back when I picked it up after having it just sitting for months. So I did pull one skein's worth out and started a new and different blanket. I'll pull out more as I make this one because I'm using that yarn for the new blanket. I'll leave the original part and work on it sometime in the future...Maybe.Since it's so narrow it might be something that is one of the things mentioned in the video and that is not worth spending the time.
I wonder how Sue is doing. I don't know if she posts on the over 60's or not.

Oh, Ruth, I have done that, happily crocheting away before I checked gauge, or stitch count. As this was the afghan for DGS (right?) do you have another pattern or yarn in mind for an afghan for him? Or am I completely confusing projects.
I watched the video, and appreciated her perspectives on what to save and what to get rid of. She actually chose to get rid of very little. I can think of 2 projects I have stored in my craft area that will probably be discarded. And I am very much ok with that.
Yes, wonder how Sue is…I will do a quick search and see if she is anywhere else.
CJ- how are you faring in this warm and humid weather? Were you able to work on those 4 monthly blocks?
Time to go get some work done on the hammock.

Good morning my friends although it's barely morning here and not morning at all where you are.
Ginny, I hope the hammock repair goes well and it's all done and off your list today. Right, that woman didn't really get rid of much during the video. I wonder if she discarded or gave away more after she had that list for the video
CJ, are you looking online today for new projects?
The blanket I was working on was for #3 grandson for Christmas so no hurry. The one I started with that yarn is a more 'girly' one so it will be for one of the 5 girls. I revised my list last evening of which other ones I'll make for everyone and I think that today I'm going to do like CJ does and make kits for each one with yarn and all the info needed. well maybe not all. I especially want to see if I have enough yarn for each one I have planned.I do have all the yarn together for oldest dgs who is 32 and lives in Montana. He's my oldest grandchild. He was like another son to us because dd was only 16 when she had him and had no clue of how to care for a baby and he is only 10 years younger than my son almost to the day.
I did get my two hats for the week done so two more ufo's finished.

Ruth, for a boatload of reasons I think it’s a great idea to have “kits” all made up and ready to go. First off- the most obvious being that you have a project ready to go for car dealership waiting room or doctors office. But what I really like about it is you will be less prone to use the yarn you have set aside in a kit for another project, which I can imagine is tempting if you do not have the yarn pre allocated. Think it’s just a great idea and should work out well for you. Ok so no big hurry on the afghans you are making. Think I got your grandsons confused, thinking this afghan was for your DGS in Indiana. Thanks for the explanation! Nice work getting two more UFO’s finished.
So, I ended up on the phone with Jane who called…have not seen her in over a week as the and her husband are traveling.. Lost that time on the phone when I could have been working on the hammock. I have made good progress on it and think that I can complete it in about an hour.
CJ- hope you have had a good day surfing the Sunday posts and blogs for new projects

Hello It's another hot day here, started out cloudy but is ending sunny. Fortunately between the portable AC and a fan, the downstairs is not too bad. Ruth - I'm glad that you are going to be able to make some kits. I really found they have helped me to get my projects organized. And like Ginny said, then I don't accidentally use a fabric in another project that I needed for that quilt. Ginny - I'm glad to hear you made progress on the hammock and hope you get it finished today. I did check out the blogs today, but I'm not looking for any new projects Fortunately I didn't find any this week. I agree that the lady on the video didn't seem to get rid of a lot, but maybe that's part of going through the process she did. She found that she wanted to finish most of her unfinished projects This morning I finished the four monthly blocks, so I'm all caught up with my monthly quilt alongs. This coming week I'd like to finish putting together the top for Pat Sloan's weekly quilt along. It's going to be so big and I just want to get that done. I also pulled out my oldest unfinished quilt project - a hand quilting piece that I started at a hand quilting class I took in 2004. This was in Williamsburg VA at a quilt show where there were classes, quilts on displays, vendors, etc. Since this was so early in my quilting life it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the classes I took too. This piece is a carousel horse. The instructor in the class had already drawn out several designs on muslin for us to choose from, and I chose this one. I've done a lot of stitching on it today and have really enjoyed it. I'm going to see if I can get this one finished this month or in August. It's really funny to see my crooked stitches from the class and my larger, but straighter, stitches now. It will be so exciting to finish this project. Take care

Well it sounds like the woman on the video already helped you with something,CJ...getting out that nice quilt you started years ago..and now you done a lot of work on it already. Yes looking back at some of our work from years ago is very interesting and fun to see how we've changed over the years
Ginny, I can sure see how you would get my grandchildren mixed up. I have so many of them.I made a afghan for oldest dgs in Indiana last year and he loved it. Just a few months ago he sent me a picture of it and told me again how much he likes it. All the children in Indiana now have a blanket that I made except the youngest dgs. I made him only a really small one because he loves really soft fuzzy things so I made him that blanket in Bernat's blanket yarn and I was in a hurry so made it small. I owe him a regular blanket. I'm thinking maybe a lego blanket or something to do with puppy patrol. But that will be later. I'm glad you got to talk to your friend who's been away. Setting the hammock aside was worth it.
I did do some outdoor work today. at 7pm it's was still 88 but humidity of 17% Tomorrow forecast is for 99 degrees.
Luckily I have a lot of tote bags. (I love tote bags so have quite a few) because my projects won't fit in those 2.5 gallon Hefty bags. But I do have a couple made up into kits but still have more kits to get together..
