Just dropped off breakfast at my neighbors….I left it on their deck (and texted them that it is there). Figure with a household of 3 adults and 4 kids somebody should be able to retrieve it. Breakfast is french toast casserole, sausage, grapes and home made syrup for the french toast casserole.
Ruth, as far as making meals (guess I make a donated meal or two a year) usually something standard works. Think soup is an excellent idea ( I would think that a creamy chicken noodle would be excellent) but also meals like chicken pot pie, shepherds pie or chili (love to do that with a cornbread topping). Another favorite recipe to make for others (I love it too) is a beef rice enchilada. Easy to make, tastes amazing (even my grandkids like it) and I have successfully made it with gluten free tortillas for a friend who is gluten sensitive. Unless i know the person likes or can handle some “heat” I tend to stay away from spicy foods. You could also do an internet search for foods good to take to others. Gotta say, after I lost Dh many from church brought over food. It was all welcome. All this blabbing about food is making me hungry.
Glad you were able to get to work on the afghan for DGS, what color did you decide to use for his afghan? Yay- two hats are finished and out of the UFO bag and into the donate bag.
CJ, do you have plans on starting to assemble those 30 blocks today or is today another decluttering day?
Muggy here today…I should try to get a walk in. Also need to put my big girl pants on and get busy on the hammock repair. I figure once I get started it will not be so bad, but right now seems overwhelming.

Hello Hope everyone is doing well today. It's sunny and in the 80s here and the next two days are supposed to be in the 90s but lower humidity. I went out this morning for groceries and then after lunch I did a few things in the yard. I have an area where ivy has taken over, it was too much for me to keep up with it when it started. I read somewhere that putting vinegar on it could kill it, so I tried doing that to a portion of it and I'll be interested to see what happens. I won't be doing any quilting today, but hope to get back to it tomorrow. There is a Chritmas mystery starting tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I'm going to participate. I might just wait until the pattern is all out and then see if I want to make it. I hope to get back to making the star blocks tomorrow. Hope you both get to do some crafting this week too. Take care

Hey CJ- good to see you here. Bet you are glad that your trip for groceries is over with! White vinegar is useful for eradicating plants, not sure why white vinegar and not apple cider, but I have always heard to use white vinegar. It probably takes a few days and perhaps a few treatments, I hope it works for you. Think it’s wise to wait to see what the Christmas mystery quilt looks like before making the decision to work on it. Making a quilt is so much work, so to put a ton of work into it to find that you are not a big fan of the pattern seems like a poor use of valuable quilting time. Hope you can get to work on the star blocks tomorrow.
So let’s see….I did get a walk in this am. I spent some time working in the yard cleaning up and met my DD’s at the library to attend the music program for the kids. It’s a sweet little program and the man who offers the class is leaving the library to become the school librarian at the elementary school. So I wanted to see him one last time land thank him for doing such a great job with the little ones.
Got practice shortly.
Yes it was warm here today but like CJ the humidy has gone down a lot. Very thankful for that.
And I did make another attempt at the hammock….I expect that tomorrow I will be cutting and sewing, now I feel pretty confident for how I will make this repair. Had to have a discussion with Dd today about it to make sure she was ok with how I was going to fix it.
Ruth, hope you had a great day

Well CJ, I did some grocery shopping too after dh had his CT. We had a little wait but not overly long and it seemed to take a little longer than usual once he got in there so I did get in some crocheting while there. I guess that it was because of it being Monday that there were so many people out.
No, CJ, I wouldn't want to join a mystery anything. I have to know what I'm making. Is the one you're talking about today the one with the sneak peak.
Ginny, it's too bad that man is leaving the library. I know you've mentioned a few times about taking the children to the story hours and other things there for kids.I'm glad you got the hammock repair figured out. I hope it all goes well.
Summer finally got here; The last couple days have been hot and all this week may be in 90's. Having such low humidity helps a lot.
Now I'm going to sit and crochet in front of my fan.

Ruth, when do you get the CT test results for Dh? Good to hear that the wait was not too long. For some reason medical facilities seem to have more traffic on Mondays, I always thought it was because they do not do as much testing on weekends and so Monday becomes backed up. Glad you had some crocheting to keep you out of trouble! Ha ha ha. Not that I think you would get into trouble.😂😉. Well congrats on summer finally arriving where you live! A week in the 90’s (even with low humidity) would not be my choice but I know it does not bother you. Just make sure you and Dh are drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.
The humidity dropped last night for my area and I turned the AC off and my windows are open. Think I can make it through the day without the AC on as the night is supposed to be moderately cool and lower humidity. It’s sure nice to have open windows. Last night I got home late from practice and went into work this am, so I am a little short on sleep.
CJ- what are you working on today? Were you able to get back to quilting?
Once I get the dishwasher loaded I think I am going to get to work on the hammock. My DD’s pattern should be here today, and I am looking forward to getting some work done on the baby quilt, figuring out how I will make the quilt.

Hello It's hot and sunny here. Hope your weather is alright today Ruth - Hope you are able to stay cool. I'm glad you were able to get your shopping done while you were out. The new mystery quilt along that started today is a 5 week Christmas one, and they don't give a preview. That other quilt along with the sneak peek lasts 7 months. Ginny - Hope you were able to work on the hammock. I'm glad you're having cooler weather. I checked out my Christmas fabrics and I may try to participate in the quilt along. It's a row by row, which I like. I printed the pattern, so I'll see how it goes. www.fatquartershop.com/evergreen-mystery-quilt-along-week-one-tucked-under-the-tree-row-free-pdf-quilt-pattern?sscid=71k7_eryryThis morning I made two more shoofly blocks and I really wish I'd made these 4x4 inches instead of 3.5x3.5 I may make some the next fews days at 4 inches and see if I like them. I also made one of the Starlet blocks but I had a problem with the direction of one corner and had to redo it a few times. I'm going to have to figure out a way to sew on these corners so I don't keep having this problem. There are 4 that have to go on each block. I was thinking it might be better if I just did one piece at a time for all the blocks at once so I'd be sewing them all the same way. This morning I also finished going through my storage totes in my sewing room, so I have a better idea what is in them and I numbered the boxes to help. I also pulled a bag of things out that I'll donate to the quilt guild. It's nice to know this is done, but it's a bit sad that I see so many projects I want to do and I'll probably never get to make them. Just have to keep working at it Take care

A cat sitting on the hammock prevented me from doing much sewing on the hammock but I did get started. It should not take much effort once I get busy working on it.

CJ, I clicked the link and thought it looked like gifts under the tree then look at the info and that's exactly what it says. I don't care a lot for the colors they used but luckily we all have different interests. Do you have a lot of the 3.5 inch blocks made already. Are they something you could put aside to use in something else if you find you like the 4" ones better?
Ginny, well the kitty must have known you really didn't want to work on the hammock and gave you a reason to wait.
Last evening I found that I had made a mistake way back on the tipped scale blanket so had to rip out a LOT. Now I'm back where I was before that. It's pretty wide but in length I have 22 inches done and need 66 at least so I have a ways to go. It's hot here but not uncomfortable in front of the fan. Makes me drowsy though and I feel like I need a nap. I still have 3 baby things I want to make before she's born so will fit those in too. At the end of the week it will be cooler and I'll do yard work then.
I don't know when we'll get the results from dh's CT. I did sign him up for access to the patient portal so hopefully the results will be there.Mine weren't on it so I called and they sent me a paper report.

Ruth, I sure hope that Dh’s results dhow up on the patient portal quickly… sometimes they send out an animal when new reports are available. Well that is a large afghan you have to make and admittedly it’s a nice project to work on in the dead of winter as it will help keep you warm. Yoda (my sewing assistant) frequently sits on my sewing projects or even the keyboard (when I refer to him as my editor). He is a friendly cat, and surely does like being around us.
CJ-why do you prefer the shoofly blocks to be 4X4- is it an easier size to work with? I know you make quilting kits for yourself…think you ought to assemble the kits that you REALLY want to make and be sure you get to those first. From looking at the women who attend the local guild here, many are easily into their 80’s, so I figure at the rate you are going you have many good years of quilting fun ahead of you. Think your biggest problem (and I say this lovingly!!!) is you take on new projects too- which is great. You are always looking for new cool projects online from favorite quilt designers.

Good afternoon all. It's still pretty hot here but only 88 officially so better than the last few days
CJ, I agree with Ginny. YOu have a LOT of years in which to do quilts.
Ginny, I hope your furry helper allows you to work on the hammock and hopefully you will have it done and off your project list. I'd be really anxious to have it out of the way so I could start the quilt for your grandaughter.
Not much new here. I had to rip out a few rows again but am now back to where I have a couple rows done for today. Before I started I finish a hat from the ufo bin.Ginny, you're right about this blanket. It would be a nice thing to work on in the winter. It's really soft and squishy even though it's thick. I keep it at my side on the couch rather than on my lap while I'm working on it so that it doesn't make me too warm.Next I'm going to do a blanket in the "closed oyster" stitch and will do it in RH ombre color scuba. I've had the scuba yarn for awhile and and thought this stitch, which I just found, would be really appropriate.
See you all later.

Hello Hope you are both doing well. It's hot and sunny here, but not humid. Ginny - Hope you can get to work on the hammock soon. I can't imagine why you think I take on too many new projects I've found that the thing I enjoy the most about quilting is searching out new projects Ruth - The ombre yarn sounds pretty for a blanket. Most of the projects I saw that I'd like to work on are handwork - hand quilting or embroidery. I really need to push myself just to stitch for even 15 minutes a day and then I could finish some of these. One other thing I found going through my storage is I have so many quilt blocks that I made as test blocks, or to use leftover fabric from a project, etc. There has to be over 100 blocks in that bag! I had to go out today to run errands, but before I did I was checking my background fabric for the current Pat Sloan quilt along and realized that I was not going to have enough to finish the top. So when I was out I went to JoAnns and I was very lucky to find the white fabric and I bought 5 yards of it. I put the block pieces for the Starlet quilt away since I really need to get caught up on my weekly and monthly projects and then I'll get back to that. Take care

CJ, I'm glad you checked your backing fabric before you went out and were able to stop and pick up some. Sure saved you from another trip out which I know you don't really like to do.
I think that's my problem also and is why I have some many ufo's. I start something new before completing the current project. That's why, even though I still have 3 more baby things to make, I'm continuing to work on this blanket. I also need to quit looking every day on the crochet groups and youtube to check on new patterns and videos.

Guess that is one reason I do not allow myself too much time searching blogs and quilting web sites, its like a massive vacuum or vortex that sucks you in- between looking for patterns and then fabrics….Dd and I both spent a lot of time searching for a pattern for the baby quilt. Think that pattern arrives at my house today.
Ruth, good to hear your resolve in completing the afghan for DGS and resuming work on the baby items that you want to make. I am glad to hear that you are back on track for the afghan, making up for what you had to rip out. Hope that cooler temps prevail for you, although 88 still sounds quite warm to me!
CJ- that is great that Joanns had more of the white fabric in stock! I have found that is the case with them a lot, that basic fabrics they tend to keep. I am so glad for you that you were able to purchase more. Wow- 100 different blocks in storage! Got any idea what you might do with those? Many of my test run blocks I tend to get rid of because sometimes I make those orphan blocks from fabrics that are leftover and the match is not perfect with other fabrics I use in the block. So your favorite part of quilting is searching for new patterns? My guess is your least favorite is quilting. I know binding is also not high up on your list, but think that is common for a lot of quilters.
Bringing DGD and DGS to another library program this am to get them out of their mothers hair. Then the great fun (sarcasm…..) of taking the cats to the vet for check ups. The one cat will be easy to catch. The other? Oh boy, I hope she cooperates.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are having a good day and nice weather. It was really hot here today. Ginny - Hope the grandkids enjoyed the library program and that the visit to the Vet went well. I'm hoping to make several orphan block quilts. I've seen these done by other quilters and I'd like to try one as soon as I have time to go through the blocks and organize them by size and type. Ruth - Hope you've made some progress on your projects today. I think you should watch the videos if you enjoy them This morning I made the rest of the blocks (4 of them) for Pat Sloan's current quilt along. And I cut the sashing fabric too. So now I just have to put it together. I'm thinking about adding a small 3 inch border to the quilt, but I'll have to see. This is going to be a large quilt even without a border - 74x74 and the border would make it 80x80. This would be the widest quilt I've ever made. I have made a few longer quilts. Tomorrow I'll try to cut fabric for the monthly blocks so then I just piece them as I have time. I also want to start the new Christmas quilt, so hopefully I can cut the fabric for that too. Hope you get to do some crafting today and tomorrow too
