Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, playing a musical instrument, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Happy Monday!!!
CJ- the carousel horse sounds like a really nice project to work on! I can imagine it’s not too large a piece - or would not have been offered as part of a class. Of course you should have no problem finishing quilting it and i hope you are not tempted to take out the quilting you did earlier. It’s a charming testimony to how far your quilting has come since 2004. Bet that was nice taking a class near Williamsburg. Glad you are keeping comfortable!!!
Ruth, be safe when working outside and it’s so hot. 99 degrees even with low humidity is still very warm. Thanks for the explanation about afghans. I do remember you mentioning that your oldest DGD (Indiana) loves an afghan you made for him, so that made me think that the other afghan was for him also. You have a lot of projects going or planned..the sign of a true crafter!!!
Got another phone call last night which delayed the completion of the hammock repair. But I have less than an hour worth of work on it 2 of the grandkids will be here today for a few hours to give their mother a break. Not sure how much time at the machine I will get today.

I just stepped outside and after about 3 minutes of weed control I came back in because it's so hot. From in here I didn't realize how hot it was
Just found out that dgd #2 got married yesterday. She lived with and had a child with a very troubled man for about 10 years finally met a new man who she says is very devoted to her, her son, and his daughter. They're going to have some kind of ceremony in October for friends and family to attend. She lives in Montana so I won't be going to that either. She's the second of all my grands to get married. I hope this one works out better than dgs' marriage

Hello - Hope you are both having a good day and staying cool. It's really hot here and we have some smoke again from the Canadian fires. Ginny - Hope you had a good time with the grandkids. Ruth - I hope your DGD has a good marriage with this new guy. I finished the quilt top for Pat Sloan's quilt along today. It's really big 74x74. I decided not to put the border on it because I think a small 3 inch border wouldn't look good on this big quilt and I don't have enough fabric for anything wider. It was really tough moving this quilt around my machine and sewing area since it's not alot of space. So I'm glad to be finished with it. I've had this fabric combination for a few years, so it's nice to get to use them and I have fabric leftover to put in my stash. The next clue for the Evergreen Christmas quilt along comes out tomorrow so I hope to get it finished this week. Hope you both get to do some crafting too. Take care

Ruth, congrats on DGD getting married! I will pray for her and her marriage, that it is long and happy, one in which they honor and respect each other.
Well, had little kids here today, so I rather figured I would get no crafting done.
Hope each of you had a good day

CJ- just saw that you posted. Sounds like good judgement not to add a border to that large a quilt unless you were totally sold on the idea. Congrats on using more fabric from your stash!!!

Ginny, when I remind you of it you will remember, I'm sure, that I made the oldest dgs in Indiana a blanket before the one he sent a picture of.He really liked that one too and took it when he went to Taiwan and you know who wouldn't return it to him when he left. I actually asked her about the blanket and she claimed she didn't know where it was then she asked me to make her a blanket I'm sorry you didn't get any crafting done but I bet the children enjoyed being with you and their mom enjoyed having a little free time. CJ, I'm not sure if I responded to your post or not but that definitely is a large quilt top and would be hard to work a border on something that large I would think. Oh and Ginny, I meant to mentioned that the French toast casserole sounds delicious and homemade syrup...yumm. I bet the enjoyed every bite.

Ruth, rather a low class move of someone to ask you to make them an afghan, considering her behavior. Yes I do remember you making both afghans for DGS- and it’s wonderful that he appreciates it so much. I know you two have a specially close relationship.
Driving my neighbor for her post partum check. Her husband is staying home to care for the babies.

Ginny, it's so nice of you to drive her to the doctor for her postpartum check. Does she have other children besides the twins?
I did do a little yard work after it cooled off some and when I say little it really was little. I was out there for maybe 15 minutes. Just enough time to carry two bundles of weeds up to the garbage can and to cut some nasty looking tall thistles. They actually have pretty flowers but they are an invasive species and spread easily and grow tall and thick and have those awful "stabbers". I need to get some herbicide to try to get rid of them permanently.

Hello Ginny - It's nice of you to help your neighbor, hope the appointment went well. Ruth - Hope you can get your yardwork done when it's a bit cooler. I had to go out today to run errands and do some shopping, so I probably won't do any quilting except maybe some hand quilting later. The new Christmas mystery clue came out today, so I hope to get that done in a few days. It's very hot and sunny here, hope your weather isn't too bad. Take care

Ha ha ha….my neighbor has 3 other children in addition to the 2 babies. Her appointment went quickly and very well, we were out of the office in a very short amount of time. Glad I was able to help out because she has no family up here and until the twins are older she does not want to take them out in public yet. I was glad to be able to drive her- plus a quick run into Walmart to pick up some formula. Tomorrow should be an easier day for me.
CJ- so you did decide to make the Christmas mystery quilt! I figure you will be getting the fabric for that cut soon. Glad you got some errands done. Tuesdays are good for errands, Monday and Friday can be very busy.
Ruth, those darned thistles are a pain. It’s easier if you can get to them before they become too tall. I wonder if white vinegar or boiling water will kill the plant.
Hit a minor snag on the hammock but got it pinned together. I want to glue on the binding on the opening for the hangers, then sew tomorrow and it’s done. Cannot wait.

I just heard that the Nat'l weather service says the high here yesterday was 101. I didn't know it got up that high. It said 101.8 on my thermometer but it always says higher than actual temp because it's on the sunny side of the house. Sun doesn't shine directly on it but it's hot on that side.
CJ, I'm glad you were able to get your errands and shopping done and glad you weather is not bad.
Ginny, are the other three children all very young. It would be really hard to have two infants that you have to buckle into little car seats and then other small children to keep track of and buckle them in also. Sorry about the little setback on your hammock repair. I know it will be a relief to have it done.
Today I've been working on the current blanket and ripped more out of the tipped scale one. I've decided that, since it's so narrow, I'm just going to rip out the whole thing and start over some time. I also had to rip out a couple rows on my current blanket because of a mistake so now I'm doing what I should have been doing all along and that is using stitch markers to alert me when I get to a corner. It's done in the round.
See you all tomorrow. Have a great evening although evening is nearly over in the east.

CJ- hope that you had a good day and were able to stay comfortable. Did you cut the fabrics for the next step of the Christmas mystery quilt?
Ruth, well that is frustrating- having to rip out that much crocheting. Glad you are now using stitch markers to make the “in the round” afghan, and I hope that project goes smoothly. Is it the tipped scale afghan that you are going to remake some day? Wow, sounds like its so very hot by you. Do you have air conditioning in any rooms? Even with a fan on that is uncomfortable. Stay hydrated….
Hammock is done and I gave it to DD. I hope it holds up- it’s double thick now, and I hope will be able to withstand an active child.
My neighbor’s kids are spread out in age, so at least not all of them are super young.
Looking forward to working on the baby quilt tomorrow, or at least trying to figure out how I will modify the pattern.

I popped in a couple times but no one had posted after me so I waited.
CJ, I saw the weather on tv and sure am praying that your area stays safe. I hope you had a good day quilting.
Ginny, congratulations on getting that hammock finished and given back to your dd. I hope it holds up for years to come.I know you'll do a great job on the quilt and I say that sincerely. I love quilts and love seeing them and I do a lot of praising but I really mean it when I say they're beautiful. On some quilts I've seen I'm not overly fond of the colors used maybe but the quilt itself is still beautiful.I look at a lot of quilts on youtube.
No we don't even have the one window a/c unit in this year. Dh is not able to do it right now so we make due with fans which so far have been adequate at least for me. Yes the tipped scales afghan is the one I'll start over sometime, I'm just not sure when or if it will be one of the Christmas gifts. Today I left messages at the neurosurgeon's office because we've been waiting so long to hear from them and the person that does appointments returned my call and said that It's looking like the earliest appointment will be in Jan or Feb!!!! I know this is a very busy neurosurgeon. I think there are others in town. maybe not,but he's the most experienced and the best. The ortho doctor that dh sees said that dh could probably have the surgery in Colorado but neither of us could navigate traffic in Denver and we don't have anyone that can drive us there, hang around for a few days and drive us back.
I'm still working on the current blanket which I hope to have done by the end of the week. Then I'll have about two weeks to finish the baby items, get them packed up and mailed.

Ruth, that is such a shame that it is such a long wait for Dh to get to see the neurosurgeon for 6 months. For someone in pain, that must seem like a very long wait. Perhaps you can get Dh on a waiting list, but I never found that worked to get an earlier appointment. Prayers for patience for both of you. Please stay hydrated….and I pray that the temps drop soon. I figure that you will have the afghan done by the end of the week! I know you want to get the gifts of love in the mail.
