I have a question for you. I go to youtube a lot (even though I used to dislike videos) and when you get there they always have you at a general page. So on that page I saw videos for making sardine bread. Have either or you ever heard of sardine bread? It sounds really disgusting to me. I looked it up and they actually take a can or two of sardines and mash them up and put then in the dough and also use the oil the sardines were packed in in the dough and then to brush on the bread once it's done backing.

Hello Hope you are both staying cool, it's really hot here! Ginny - I look forward to see your DGD's quilt. I'm glad she has enjoyed the classes and making her quilt. Ruth - I've never heard of sardine bread, not something I'd like. I get a bunch of weird YouTube suggestions too. I hope you can get your septic checked and there aren't any problems. This morning I finished making the rest of the X and O blocks and figured out my layout for them. I also figured out the Ohio Star layout and sewed those rows together so the center of the quilt is done, just need to add the borders. Hopefully I'll get both of these done this weekend. Hope you get to do some crafting too. Have a good weekend!

Thank you CJ. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get all those blocks together. I'm sure you'll have the rest done during this weekend.
I haven't been crocheting yet today. I had some housework to do and actually still have more that I'm not going to do today. I want to finish the sweater but that might not be today either because the ribbing for the sleeves and all around the rest of the sweater takes time.
It's only 83 degrees today.
Yes I'm waiting to see Ginny's dgd' quilt also.

Well there you go!!!! Dgd completed her quilt today, all except tying it which will not take much time. That is something we can to perhaps tomorrow or another day. Honestly it does not photograph well, the fabrics, particularly the blue wavy one (in the striped blocks) and the blue ocean alternate block (the 8x8 blocks) really create an illusion of moving waves, which is pretty darned cool. (Even the shop owner thought so). Her quilt back fabric is a pale blue shimmer fabric, which sort of looks like the way light reflects off of the ocean waves. DGD LOVES this quiltâŚit turned out pretty darned well and honestly she did 85% of the work, with some cheering and encouragement from grandma. On the way home this afternoon, we agreed that we will do this camp again next year. While I was quickly shopping for some fabrics for Jane (who asked me to pick up a fabric for her) and a background fabric for DGD#3âs quilt, DGD#1 really searched the quilt shop. Of course she found LOTS of fabrics she liked, including fabrics with dogs and horses on them. Think she wants to make another quilt.
Ruth, sounds like you were able to see a lot of family, which I am glad for. I hope that you can put your DHâs septic concerns behind you and that there is nothing wrong with it. And No, I have never heard of sardine bread, and gotta say, it does not sound appetizing to me at all.đ. Were you able to make any progress on the sweater?
CJ- getting a quilt layout straightened out is a great thing! Hope you can get it sewn together quickly and that you are pleased with how it turns out. The Ohio star quilt sounds so pretty- I hope that you will be able to post a picture of it when you have completed it.
Hope you are both able to stay comfortable and safe in the summer heat.

Oh Ginny, that quilt is wonderful!! I absolutely love the fabrics your dgd picked out. It was a teaching situation so I'm sure you showed her how to lay the blocks out so that they would display both the fabrics and her skill (and your's) well. It does indeed look like rolling waves. Your dgd is going to be an amazing quilter when she grows up. She's had a great start. And with that quilt coming out so well I can see why she'd be already trying to pick out more fabric.

Ruth, thanks for the kind words- but all I did was follow direction from both the shop owner and the written directions. As far as DGDâs fabric choices? She said she wanted a blue quilt. As we got ready to leave to select the fabric, DD said to her to pick out more fabrics than just blue. I did direct her toward the blue fabric section of the store, and pretty quickly saw that she was not really into calicos or reproduction fabrics. Then I found a blue cloud (but a very suggestive cloud in appearance) and her eyes lit up with that. We tried getting coordinating fabrics with the cloud fabricâŚand while I had my nose in blue fabrics I found the ocean fabric. Once I gave that fabric to DGD, it was âgame overâ. Then I directed her to the batiks and she came in with the fabrics for the stripe blocks, which are all batiks. Even the shop owner noted how laser focused DGD was on her fabric choices, which truly are her choices and she LOVES the beach. She assured me she was taking her quilt to their beach vacationâŚbut I made her promise not to take it on the beach, but keep it in the house they are renting.. Just funny how the 3 girls in the class selected 3 very very different fabric choices. We shall see if DGD sticks with it. She did most of this quilt by herself- with the exception of the cutting. (She needs practice on that). But I had to stand over her and direct with the machine. Yes the shop machine had a 1/4 inch foot, but I needed to remind her to stick with that guide a lot. As a matter of fact any time I left her (just to migrate over to get scissors or take a picture of her sewing) she left the 1/4 inch seam. Its great that she has extra fabric to make a pillow, so we can work on that here and practice both her cutting and 1/4 inch seams.
Another warm dayâŚI am babysitting for DD later on as they have a wedding to attend. Think I will go wash the fabrics for DGD#3âs quilt. Gotta get busy with that.
Ruth and CJ- stay comfortable today and I hope you can get some crafting time in.

Hello - Hope you are both enjoying the weekend and having some nice weather. it was very hot here again today, with a thunderstorm around 5:00. It's cleared up now and sunny again. Ginny - Your DGD's quilt is beautiful. Her combination of fabrics is really pretty and work well for that quilt design. I'm happy to hear she enjoyed the class and is already looking at new fabric I finished piecing the quilt tops for the Ohio Star and X and O Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts, so I'm done with those for the year. I really like finishing those early instead of trying to put a top together in November/December. I think tomorrow I'll try to do that decorative stitch over that small seam that was coming lose on the hand quilted piece I finished binding this past week. I also bought a pattern for a lighthouse block and would like to try that and see how it comes out. It has a lot of little pieces so I'll have to see how much I can get cut. Take care and have a good evening!

Cj, you get a lot of things completed in a short period of time. That has to be really pleasing to you. I'm glad you were able to finish the Ohio Star blocks. The lighthouse block sounds nice except for the small pieces but I love lighthouses and know your quilt made with those blocks will be great
Ginny, I laughed when I read that your dd told your dgd not to get all blue because I saw that she picked only one non blue fabric. It's her quilt so I'm sure she's happy with all the blues. It sounds like you were giving good guidance while she was creating the quilt and probably at her age it's tough to keep to quarter inch seam allowance...It's hard for me too.
I'm nearly done with this sweater. I have one sleeve half done and the second one to do and I'm done. I keep putting it down even though I want to finish it. I'm always anxious to get to my next project.Turned out the person who did the video has you do the edging while also doing parts of the sweater so all the edging I have left is for the sleeves.Tomorrow probably will be bonnet day and if I get that done early I make make baby socks and Mary Jane booties.

Hello Ruth - All of your projects sound so interesting. I do the same thing as you - I'm always anxious to get to the next project. Ginny - Hope you are have a good day and your weather is cooler, like it is here. Although it's still warm, in the 80s, I actually feel a bit cool today after all the heat from the last few days. It's a nice feeling, and I think I'll treat myself to a hot cup of tea this afternoon. I usually just have one in the morning this time of year. This morning I did the decorative stitching on the quilt where the seams were coming lose. I only stitched where the breaks were instead of doing the whole thing. I decided not to work on the lighthouse blocks, it was just too many pieces to deal with. I saw a sunflower block and a cardinal block yesterday and I think I might try them. Although these are made for using the AcuQuilt, I think I can figure out the dimensions to just do them with regular cutting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYnfHjoGXN0 - cardinal I see she has a robin and a blue jay block too. It would be cute to make a bird wall hanging. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRqnT0ABoyA - sunflower I also liked this double star block: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCGHf-3HtCUToday is World Embroidery Day, so I did some embroidery this morning on a snowman piece that I've had traced for a while. I want to see if I like making this because there are 12 blocks in total. I may just make a few of them or if I really like it maybe all of them. Hope you both get to do some crafting today and that you have a good evening

CJ, I love the cardinal block. It reminds me of my nemesis in Indiana that kept flinging himself onto our window. So sometimes they can be a real pain in the neck but they sure are pretty. The sunflower block looks like it has a lot of small pieces too. I like the double star block but wouldn't make it in those colors. They look too drab. I sure wish they had a lighthouse block that doesn't have so many small pieces because I think it would be spectacular to those that like lighthouses and I know you do. Ginny, it sounds like you had a very busy day yesterday so I hope you got to rest and do some things you enjoy today.I was thinking of your garden which reminded me that the other day ddil said she wished we were ther so we could help them with eating all the produce they grew. I can't believer they got that much because I thought that deer and raccoons would get to them although they did have a small fence. I'd love to be able to eat those fresh veggies because here they are not only very expensive but they are not very good either. I did finish my sweater but had to take the sleeves out and do over. They were kind of baloony. I don't like oversize sleeves and I don't think they look good on babies either. I didn't finish completely because I still have ends to weave in and buttons to put on but today is not button day and it might not be bonnet or sock/bootie day either. I haven't decided yet but I probably will do the bonnet. I made and gave ddil one but it's a very tiny one for a newborn so I want to make one a little larger. As ddil says, her children usually have grown out of newborn size in about a week if they ever fit at all. Their oldest dd weighed almost 9lbs It's hot here but starting tues or wed it will be much cooler with one day having a high of only 70, I love the 70's

DGD picked out some interesting fabrics for sure but at least the one brought in yellows and some tan/brown and the ocean fabric is hardly a solid blue.
Glad to hear that you will be getting some cooler temps, Ruth, 70 is pleasant especially if the humidity is not high. Sorry that you are not able to garden much out where you are, think your climate has some wide swings in temperature that make growing some crops difficult. Do you have any farmers markets out in your area? Sure sounds like bonnet day for you!! Glad you were able to finish the sweater, even if it was necessary to re- do the sleeves.
CJ- think decorative stitching on the areas where the seams had lifted is perfect- bet your little repair job looks great. And if those lighthouse blocks had too many pieces, then i do not blame you for avoiding them. The cardinal blocks- blue jay and robin sound adorable. For some reason you tube was not loading well, so I will look at them later.
I sat outside a lot today and read. I lost power for a few hours last night (when the cold front came through) and now itâs really nice out. I did straighten up my sewing room a bit, and last night while at DDâs finished the ties on DGDâs quilt. Itâs all done now.
See ya in the morning!
