6 Ways to Savor the Season โ Cooking Light
Eat up Before You Get Down โ Itโs tempting to skip eating before a party, but that can backfire. Have a small snack before you go so youโre not starving. Reach for some satisfying lean protein, fiber, and healthy fat, like yogurt with granola and fruit, so youโll be less enticed by the buffet.
Be a Buffet Ninja โ Follow the โone trip, one plate, no towerโ rule. Make one pass at the buffet, using one salad plate, and no stacking. Then step away. And when you contribute something to a holiday potluck, make sure itโs healthful so youโre sure to have a good option.
We'll start with 2 of these tips for a healthy holiday season.
I know I've heard this and usually try to follow these tips. How about you? Do you have any other tips on how to handle parties and buffets?

Good ideas -
If I had an event to attend, I'd plan to eat more lightly than usual in anticipation, but would not skip eating. (I'd be crabby and miserable if I did).
I'd probably use a full size plate - but - I don't like food to touch (I like to understand the taste of each one, not mixed together), so there's always empty space on that plate.

I do try to eat as needed before a party/event. But I try to choose lower point/calorie options that are filling as well. I almost always pair healthy protein with good carbs for staying power.
I need to stick to the one plate rule. I do take smaller portions and if I do a 2nd plate it's just a little of the things I really liked.
When at en event, don't stand near the food table or chip bowls. Also make sure to have a large glass of water in your hand at all times. You'll find that instead of snacking, you'll drink the water.

Do you have any other tips on how to handle parties and buffets? I try to find someone to visit with get a glass of water and try not to notice the food. Also I take small amounts and if it is something I don't really like I only take the one bite.
Have a blessed day. Karen

I walk all around the food area (like circling the table, if everything is on one table), surveying what my options are. Then I get a plate. I take small portions of only the foods I am more interested in eating, or at least tasting. I'm willing to take seconds, but again, small portions. I always drink a lot of water. Planting myself far from the food is a great idea, as is facing away from the food; I'll keep both of those in mind!

Great question with New Years Eve, Day and football bowl game parties all coming up.
I will try to have some fruit or very low point snack before going out. Taking the edge of hunger so that I don't eat everything is sight.
I have gotten so I am picky about what I take. Things that are "just okay" or are not favorites don't make the plate (literally). If there is something tht I very rarely eat and is special, I am take more of it. Try to not take a lot of carbs.

I usually have something light to eat before we go and then I peruse the buffet. I go once and usually get a protein and veggies and salad.
