CJ, yes it would be hard to make a block for a mystery quilt. As you said, You don't know what the future blocks will be like so can only make a good guess on what they might be.I'm sure you're not anymore fond of taking about sewn things than I am although since you sew a lot more you're used to it and it's becoming a necessary inconvenience
Ginny, I'm glad you're getting those new tires. They'll be great for winter which I heard is forecast to be worse than last year. I hope you either have a good evening working on the quilt or doing something else you enjoy.I bet your dgd was happy to go to the fair to see the quilts with you.
Well we did go for the doctor app't, got the cane picked up, and did some shopping at Walmart. At Walmart we had a really nice cashier. It was a young man and he was very pleasant and even pointed out that the onions we bought came up at $1.99/lb and he asked us if we knew they were that much. Well we were shocked because they were supposed to be $.98/lb so he changed it. Those 4 onions would have cost us $7.50!! He also kept asking us if how he was packing our things was ok.
I did get in a little crocheting at the dr's office. I have 7 of the bandana head thingies done and left the one i was working on at the dr office in the car was was just too tired to go out and get it so I started on the bees I'm making for the boys and will attach a keyring to them so they can put the bees on their backpacks.
DD got home from Denver today and is already dreading going back in 9 days for followup.

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today and having nice weather. It's warm here and seemed more humid to me when I was outside. I think the weekend is going to be hot. Ruth - I'm glad the doctor's appt and shopping went alright. That was nice of that cashier to help you and be nice to you, when many of them aren't. I'm glad your DD made it home and hope she can rest until she has to go back for the checkup. Ginny - Hope the new tires are working well and you were able to work on the quilt. This morning I finished the two basket blocks for this month. It's been a bit challenging picking fabrics for these since I'm working with a limited group of fabrics, but I'm really enjoying making the blocks. After I finished that I made a small rail fence table topper in Fall fabrics, and I got the batting and backing done. I just need to quilt and bind it now. I want to have it ready to replace the red, white and blue one I have out right now. I also did some fabric and pattern organizing since things were getting cluttered looking again. I still have a few areas in my sewing room that I need to work on getting organized. And I started working on a new quilt. This one uses a honey bun (this is a roll of 1.5 inch fabric strips). I saw an easy pattern and I'm going to try to make that. You can see a picture here: www.favequilts.com/Throws-and-Lap-Quilts/Counting-by-FivesTake care!

CJ, It's great that you'll have a fall table runner to replace the red, white, and blue. I went to that site and I love the quilt you're going to do in the Counting by Fives. So you order a Honey Bun and the strips come all cut for you? That sounds good to me. It must cut down the needed cutting a lot.At first I thought the background fabric was plain white until I enlarged the picture. I'm not so sure I like the faded pink. You can hardly see it but, of course, you wouldn't want a really bold color either since it would overrun the strips.
I made one bee but I got carried away I guess because it turned out much too large for a keychain. So not I'm deciding if I want to make the small ones or if I want to replace those with sea turtles. I have started a turtle so we'll see. I also got the bandana done that I started last evening so I have plenty of those made.
See you all later.

Ruth- I gotta laugh at your comment of replacing bees with sea turtles! It sure sounds funny….. glad you got some crocheting done at the doctors office. And what a nice cashier at Walmart to point out the onion price!
Cj - the new quilt with the honey bun sure looks like a nice project! What color scheme will you be using for the quilt?
Today was tires and housework day. Got some outside work done also and a bit more intense cleaning. It was nice to have a day where I was just home. Think tomorrow I will have a better chance to start on the baby quilt . I did go to a ladies evening at church and made a cute craft- tapping a design into metal flashing. It came out well enough.

Ruth - glad to hear that DD is home and doing well. I hope she continues to improve.
CJ- so glad you finished the table runner! As it’s a small project it should not take much time to quilt and bind it

Ginny, it had to be a good feeling to be able to get some things done around the house and yarn and have them taken care of...for now. I hope you'll be able to work on the baby quilt today.
I worked on the sea turtle last night but didn't complete it yet. I hope to get the second one done today but if not I'll finish it tomorrow. Tomorrow is dh's birthday so I want to make him a cake later today when it gets cooler. High today was supposed to be 88 but it's already 93. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be only 69 then all next week 90's. I'm waiting until it gets cooler to do more intense cleaning and more yard work.
I hope you both have a good day and I'll "see" you later

Hello Ruth - I hope your DH has a wonderful birthday and that you can make the cake today. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get some things done around the house and got your tires It's hot here today, about 90 degrees. I've been waiting to go out and get the mail. This morning I was able to sew all the strip sets together for the new quilt using the honeybun fabrics. I need to cut the sets tomorrow since I need 56 to make this quilt. This is the fabric line I'm using: www.quiltyarnstitch.com/product/quilting-fabric-charm-pack-sophie-by-brenda-riddle-for-modaI'll have to see how the quilt top looks when I'm done, but I was thinking it would be nice to add a border if I could find some of this fabric for sale. It's an older line, but I see some on Etsy. Take care

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today and having good weather. It's hot and sunny here. I'm glad I don't have to go outside (no mail delivery - yeah!). This morning I cut up the strip sets for the quilt I'm working on and then I cut the sashing and border fabric. So I'm ready to start sewing the sashing together. I'll work on that the next few days. It's nice that there are no Tuesday or Wednesday quilt blocks coming out right now, since both of them finished last week. I think the next new quilt along starting will be the Chicken Salad one, so I'll be making 12 of the Farm Girl Vintage blocks for that quilt along. I hope you get to do some crafting today too. Take care

CJ- I think you could pick up a Kona solid (Joanns sells them) in either the grey, pink, green or red for that strip quilt (my gut is leading toward the grey because i think it would be the easier of the fabrics to match). It’s a pretty fabri like. Oh boy, looking forward to the chicken salad quilt and how those vintage blocks turn out.
Ruth, yikes you are in for HOT weather. I would wait before making a cake for Dh, he knows you love him and heating the house this time of year is no fun. Are you making a carrot cake for him? How is Dd doing?
Yesterday just ran away from me. Dd was here all day- because DGS fell asleep and we did not want to awaken him. I went to a minor league baseball game with DGS#1- what a good start the game got off to. The players toss the ball at the end of each inning into the stands, and DGS caught the ball at the end of the first inning. He was SO happy. The bad news is that heavy rain followed a while later and they suspended the game. The team will honor our tickets at another game before the end of the season.
Off to work on the baby quilt

well today was our cool day between the hot days. Yesterday dh said that I should wait until today to make his cake and that's what I did. DH had found a recipe for a spice cake and asked me to make that one so I did. It turned out good except it was just a little bit dry I thought so next time I'll add more oil.It does call for 3/4 cup of oil and 1 1/2 cups of applesauce so I think it needs a cup of oil. It also has cream cheese frosting which is what both of us like. I also put in raisins and pineapple which the recipe didn't call for. Basically it's pretty much the same as the carrot cake but with more spices. I think the carrots help with dryness in the carrot cake.It always turns out nice and moist even though I cut down on the oil that recipe calls for. It calls for 1 1/2 cups but I use only one cup and it's still very moist.
I've also been working on my turtles and have all the pieces made and two fins put on one turtle. Still have all the other parts to go. I really dislike this part of making things.
CJ It's great that you won't have more blocks coming out this week so that you'll be free to work on this current quilt. And you already have plans for the ones you'll be working on after that.
Ginny, I hope you got some quilting time in. How did those pickles you made with your dd last week turn out?
