People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

We got all the decorations down yesterday and didn't do much else. Bailey loves the rice and chicken but when I give her that instead of dog food I wonder if I'm giving her enough as she still seems hungry. Of course I give Bridgette a little too so she doesn't feel left out.
Maija left with her best friend and the best friend's grandparents for Florida last night. They flew on Allegiant so it was non-stop. They have a condo I think around Fort Myers. Supposed to be on a double lot. The girls will fly home January 2nd as school starts up on the 3rd. I worry as I don't know if the condo is on a beach or if the grandparents will drop them off but my daughter seems okay with it and I guess this girl has done this before but asked Maija to come as she gets bored on her own. Debbie was very happy that they gave her a gate pass to be able to sit with Maija in the boarding area until the plane boarded. Guess at 15 they are still considered a minor so parents are allowed to wait with them without a boarding pass.
I think today will be a Costco trip as I need another chicken and more rice. The chicken I bought on Tuesday was small and not much meat on it.

Good Morning All! Happy Thursday!
Sandy, Thanks for starting us off! Maija is one lucky girl! What a great opportunity for her!
In trying to come up with a QOTD I was thinking about how far behind I am and how I feel I have slid down the slippery slope this holiday season. I have fallen into some mindless habits.
QOTD: Which of these mindless habits do you occasionally have trouble with and how do you control it? 1. Mindless munching 2. Skimping on sleep 3. Eating on the run 4. Skipping workouts
Time to get ready for yoga. BBL

Sharon and Jane I forget do one of you live in Naples? That's where Maija is. Debbie said it's a gated community with a nice pool but they will also go to the beach with the grandparents one day.
AOTD: I just have trouble with the working out. For me that's taking walks and I just can't seem to get myself into doing it. I used to love taking Bridgette on long walks before Fred retired but just can't get myself up and moving on a regular basis.

Good morning Snow hasn't started yet but now they say it should start around noon with 6 - 10' Ann....I hope you're in Me. and won't be travelling while it's snowing. Aaliyah has been spending her days with me and I'm enjoying it, she's such a sweet girl.
AOTD...I have a problem with 1 and 4. I hope to change that after the first of the year. I've been looking at chair exercises on you tube yesterday as my knee is hurting and I just don't want to aggravate it any more than it is.

Sandy I am just north of Naples--just 2 exits by freeway. They will be here during our cold snap this weekend. Too bad they missed our record and near record highs--one degree short of that yesterday. I could tell them things to do in Naples but guess it is too late for that. Naples is one of the loveliest small cities in the country. I wonder which beach they are going to---Lowdermilk is the one closest to where my parents had their house. Wonderful zoo in Naples. Fifth avenue for walking, restaurants, shopping. And Tin City for fun shopping and boat tours as well as eating. Then there is a botanical garden that is beautiful. I am sure they will have a good time. If they go to Naples Pier for the sunset--they need to go early--draws a huge crowd so parking is a problem.
I saw Debbie Reynolds in person once. She came to Cincinnati and appeared at a hall and I went with someone--can't remember who that was. But remember she was quite a talker and very funny as she told about her experiences in the movies.
This week I have been very focused on no mindless munching--but that is this week and not a daily thing but trying to make it one. Sleep --I want to try to get back to the bedroom by 11:30 but not able to do it since I am still taking Kelcy out at midnight. Eating on the run--maybe in a hurry some times to get to line dance class because I tend to do more than I should before leaving Workouts? non existent

Sandy--they are flying into Ft. Myers I would imagine because that is the big airport and it is very close to me. Naples airport is tiny and flying is mostly from other Fl. places.

Good morning friends.
AOTD: 1.Mindless Munching - planning my food for the whole day keeps me from mindless munching. But I still catch myself having a taste when cooking or chopping veggies. And of course my food allergy makes me a mindful eater. 2.Skimping on Sleep - rarely. I've been sleeping good. 3.Eating on the Run - rarely. 4.Skipping Workouts - ah you got me on that one. Why is it so hard to get started. I'm still not going to exercise because my back is still sore.
Not a trace of Christmas past remains in my house. It's all packed away in the attic and everything dusted and swept. At least the living room is clean. And that was my workout for the day.
I'm enjoying a maple Dijon dressing on my salads and will share that recipe tomorrow.

Greetings;
Jane, I finished up yesterday's posts. When that cleaning person comes to give you an estimate, after she gives you her estimate, if you like her maybe you can talk to her about paying a fixed amount, $80 for how often, and ask what she'd do. Maybe she could always do the key rooms for you, and then alternate the others. Just a thought.
Ouch, Ruth, those questions! I was thinking of skipping yoga today to run a ton of errands which include one session of returning. I bought the wrong size of sweats for DH. Couldn't believe it when he pointed out the size. Looking at my tracking book, which I am faithfully filling, and where I also put exercise and now your question. Gee, can't get away with anything!
Sandy, I agree that it's hard to let kids go on their own. I have a murky idea trying to form in which I take my granddaughter and a friend somewhere for a few days. It's pretty unformed, but out there.
I'm doing laundry, placemats, napkins and such and then I'll look at packing away what I got out of Christmas. The thing is I know there is one more box in the garage that isn't in a red tub. I'd sure like to find it and put it in a tub. I got rid of enough old stuff that I can get it all together in the red bins.
If we were in Denver I'd say it was going to snow today. It's a snow sky out there. But, it's so warm! I have never gotten used to that. In my mind, if it's gray, it's cold.

QOTD: Which of these mindless habits do you occasionally have trouble with and how do you control it?
1. Mindless munching - This doesn't happen as often as it used to. When I realize that I'm doing it, I tell myself to just stop it and then I go write it down in the tracker. Usually when I see that I'll stop. But I have to pay attention.
2. Skimping on sleep - And this doesn't happen as often anymore. I am trying to get to bed by 10:15. I have my fitbit programmed to remind me that it's time to get ready for bed. Then I read in bed. The problem comes if I'm interested in the book and want to keep reading. Fortunately I'm not committed to finishing a chapter. I will stop at the beginning of the first full paragraph on the left page. So, I just tell myself it's late, give myself a few pages and put the bookmark in. When I turn to that page I finish the lines at the top of the left page before the paragraph and then close the book.
3. Eating on the run - This one isn't a problem. Years ago I made a rule of no eating in the car. So, no eating in the car for me is no eating on the run.
4. Skipping workouts - This one isn't a problem for most days. I go to the 8:30 a.m. class at the gym most days. So I dress for class when I get up and eat my banana and drink water and a few minutes at the computer. The days it is a problem are Thursday because yoga class isn't until 10:30 and Sunday when it's not until 11 a.m. I could always look for another Sunday class but 11 a.m. makes me think I'm being lazy. The yoga teacher talks too fast but I like her routines so I keep going. I really like my 10:30 teacher. Right now I'll be trying to figure out their payment system. My classes with the groupon are now over.

And Ruth, tell us about the Vision board you're doing for yoga. If you did I clearly have missed reading it and I'll go back and see where I missed it. thank you.

Good afternoon friends. It is good to awaken at home, though I had a wonderful time with DD and clan.
No snow yet, but either snow or rain are expected, and the sky is very gray.
AOTD (timely ones Ruth!): Which of these mindless habits do you occasionally have trouble with and how do you control it? 1. Mindless munching: I do that often. I usually have something on hand that it is ok to munch on (gum, carrots or other veggies or fruit), but if not I can go after something not so ww-friendly. I try to have WW-friendly stuff on hand.
2. Skimping on sleep: A bad one for me. I can get "stuck" on my computer, watching tv or reading. I have a reminder on my computer to go to bed at 11, but don't always make it.
3. Eating on the run: When I cannot sit and eat, like yesterday when I was driving home and did not want to leave Lola in the car alone, I will eat in the car. Planning is the best way for me to deal with this, but it can't always be helped.
4. Skipping workouts: Lately this is tough for me too. It goes along with skimping on sleep. I was up late last night and could not get out of bed for yoga tape today. Going to sleep early would REALLY help me in many ways.

I don't know if anyone is left on the thread who reads the OUTLANDER series, but I have taken the second season out of the library, and they are beautifully done. Good acting, sets, costumes. I am really enjoying them.
Brunch calling. It is after noon and no breakfast, so I'll do a combo.
Have a great day all.

Thanks for the info on that site. The one lady came to look and I told her what I would pay so this agreement was for two ladies for 2 1/2 hours for $100. She says they will do a lot more than what I had done before and so we will give it a try. Really my house is cleaner than it has been with me doing this so I told her I wanted someone for Jan.20 which is 3 weeks away and just before Jeff and Linda come. It is worth a try and I will still have plenty to do on my own.

Great night away for us. I lost $5.00 he won a little over $20.00. Free room, free meal and we didn't loose our socks.
Back home, temps aren't bad but wind is horrific.
Mindless eating: The last two days have been horrible, one would think I am not a WW member. Skimp on sleep: I am not a sleeper so yes definitely. Eating on the run: Not usually a problem. Skipping workouts. Nothing is set in stone with me, so not really skipping, just accomplish what I can. Been getting between 6 to 8000 steps per day. Also do the stairs in my house. January 1 I have plans in place to be more attentive on all levels. I say I have plans but as I've said before I am my own worst enemy.
