Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, playing a musical instrument, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Cj- Me too!!! I am totally ready for fall and am tired of summer. Sounds like a good idea to put out fall decor. Oh, and I completely understood that you were trying to match the gnome fabric background, and not the actual fabric. I stated that poorly and was only suggesting you try fabric shop hop or something similar so that you could shop from home. A trip to Joanns should solve the problem for sure.
Humid here…and yes so ready for fall.
Ruth, hope you slept well and am feeling better.

Ginny I sure hope all your cough and other symptoms are gone soon.I know that if you aren't well soon you will see your own doctor or urgent care in your area. That was so nice of your dd to go out and get you some confort items. nice comforting pj's and robe and it's great that you decided to take your own pillow and blanket. I don't mind fall except for it being a forebearer of the dreaded winter. Just the thought of another long, cold winter makes me sad. With dh probably having surgery during winter I'll be on my own trying to keep pipes from bursting.
CJ I'm sure that whatever background fabric you decide on will be great. You have a good sense of what fabrics play well with each other.
I started a pair of baby sneakers or tennis shoes, whatever they're called in your area. People here call them tennis shoes. I'm used to calling them sneakers. Anyway the first sneaker was ok but looked big and bulky so I tried another pattern. Now I have one sneaker from each pattern done. I guess I'll have to get busy and make a second one for one of the pairs anyway. I'm kind of leaning toward the second one. I keep seeing more and more things I want to make and in going into my craft room I keep eyeing yarns I want to use so I need to get those thoughts together and actually make something.I doubt I'll get this box mailed this week because after having the two teeth extracted Wed I probably won't feel like going to the post office.I guess it doesn't have to be there when the baby is born. It can arrive a few days later and not be a problem.
I hope you both have a good day. I might be back later

Good morning!
Ruth, when is Dh scheduled for his procedure? For some reason I thought that he was unable to get an appointment with the specialist for quite awhile, but, yes that probably puts you in the dead of winter. Would your DSIL be able to assist you with whatever you must do to keep your pipes from freezing. My friend has issues with that also (and her son is a plumber!) and I know its no fun trying to prevent damage from severe cold. Think I would call them sneakers….but it’s like the difference between calling a crocheted blanket a blanket or an afghan. I grew up calling it an afghan, and in my mind a blanket is something that is purchased and made in a factory as opposed to a hand crocheted items. There is no right or wrong. Prayers for you that the extraction goes smoothly. Hard to believe that your new DGD is going to be here soon! Prayers for a safe delivery for DDIL and the little one.
Today might be grape jelly day- or at least the first round of it. There are still a lot of unripe grapes out there, hope I can get to them before the catbird does, but many are a week or so away from being ripe. I do go for bloodwork tomorrow and a follow up appointment with my doctor on Friday. Timing is perfect, and while I am improving I can get my doctors follow up with him on my cough which is not as bad as it was.
CJ- were you able to get out to find a fabric to match the gnome fabric?

Hello Ginny - I'm glad to hear your cough is better and that you have a doctor's appointment this week. If you do make the grape jelly, hope it goes well Ruth - I hope everything goes alright with your extractions tomorrow. I'm just like you seeing more and more things I want to make. It's really difficult to make a choice on which ones to make. Hopefully you'll get to make as many of them as possible It's been cooler here but humid and showery. I'll take the cooler temps since it looks like it's going to get hot again next week. Yesterday morning I went out for grocery shopping and getting a few things at another store, so I didn't do any quilting. This morning I made another Farm Girl Vintage block - a pumpkin. I'm finding that I really don't like the fat quarter bundle of fabrics that I bought. The colors are not as "bright" as I like colors to be, and some of the designs are strange. I think I wanted my fabrics for these blocks to be more "calico" looking. But I have the fabrics, so I'll be using them for this quilt I also made a block from a new quilt along called "Joyful Gatherings". It wasn't too hard to make but just a bit tricky, but I don't think I'll make another one and I'm not doing the quilt along. It was fun to make a Christmas tree block though. primitivegatherings.us/joyful-gathering-quilt-along-block-release-1-download/I'm going to try to make another Farm Girl Vintage block this week before Friday. I want to get ahead with these blocks since things are going to start to get busy for me with quilt alongs in September. Hope you both get to do some crafting this week too

Ginny, I'm glad to hear that you already have an appointment for blood tests and a doctor visit. That is coming at a perfect time. Have you been able to work on the quilt while out of town or since you got back? No my dh's surgery is not scheduled yet and it's true that he doesn't even have an app't yet but I think that once you do have an app't that surgery will be scheduled soon after. My dsil is useless but maybe I could get my dgs to help some if needed.
Thank you both for the kind thoughts about my dental extractions tomorrow. I'm sure it will go well. I did have my jar cracked by a dentist here quite a few years ago but this dentist I see now has updated methods and equipment so I'm sure everythng will be fine
Cj, I'm sure there's a lot of fabric in a fat quarter pack so I'm sorry that you aren't happy with the colors. When you order online it's difficult to tell exactly what the colors look like. I know you'll put the fabric to good use anyway.
I've been working on an afghan that I started before going back to baby things. It's an easy one row repeat and goes fast but I'm making it pretty large so it will take time.
People post all the time on the crochet group sites asking what the difference is between an afghan and blanket. Some of the answers are interesting.

Hello Ruth - I'm thinking of you today and hoping everything goes well and you'll heal up quickly Ginny - Hope you are feeling better It's sunny and in the 80s here after a few days with some showers. This morning I made another Farm Girl Vintage block and cut the fabrics for the next one. I'll keep trying to make these as often as possible so I can get this quilt along done sooner than November. Hope you both get to do some crafting when you feel up to it. Take care

Ruth, thinking of you and hoping that the dental work went well. Sorry that DSIL is so useless- but it’s nice to think that maybe DGS would be able to help you if it were necessary.
CJ- that tree block is so pretty, glad you got a chance to make it. Good for you- making another Farm girl vintage block and getting fabrics cut for the next one. Sounds like you are on the path to getting it done early like you would like to.
Opened the windows and turned off the AC. It feels nice to have the fresh air in the house. Knowing that next week it will be in the 90’s it’s nice to have the windows open. I ended up going to the quilt shop with Jane. Yes, I bought fabric. But it was so pretty. It was one of those 3, one yard bundles for a 3 yard quilt and there are other patterns I want to make. It’s ok, you can laugh at me. The fabric was so gorgeous, even Jane liked it.
I did get my bloodwork done- and have most of the results already. I know the doctor will go over the results Friday and my blood sugar and cholesterol were good. Some results were a bit out of whack, but from what I read its all got to do with the fact that I have been sick and coughing my brains out. I will let the doctor of course evaluate and let me know what he thinks

Well you can both come and visit since It's going to be much cooler here. That and low humidity...you will love it. Ginny, Of course there's no way we could laugh at you when we do the same. Pretty fabric, pretty yarn and it's ours. I know you have quilts in mind to make with it which I don't always have projects in mind for my yarn buys. Yes being sick can definitely affect blood test results.
CJ, it's always a good idea to get a head start on projects and you're very good at that.
Dentist visit was interesting. We got there and the desk person said that my appointment was on Sept 20th not today. I had to explain that it had to be a mistake putting it into the computer because they wanted me to have those teeth out asap and also I remember distinctly that she said Wed at 2:20 and I repeated to the person that made the appointment on the phone twice. They decided to fit me in but then the dentist seemed in a big hurry even though there weren't any other patients waiting by the time they got to me but he didn't even wait for the lidocaine to work and those extractions were very painful. I haven't ever had a tooth pulled that hurt before. The lido always did the trick. Then he left and I was suprised at the lack of post extraction instructions. But the infected teeth are gone and I'm home and happy and about to start doing some crocheting.
Thank you both

Oh Ruth, that is heartbreaking that the pain relief had not even had time to work before the teeth were removed. (Remember I had problem recently with a doctor appointment being improperly entered into their computer system). I am glad that they took you in, now those infected teeth are gone. If I remember correctly they want you to rinse daily with warm salt water for a few days….and they no longer prescribe narcotic pain relief but advise the patient to take one advil and one tylenol together. I pray that you are comfortable today and not a lot of swelling. My question for the dentist office is how did they expect you to wait 3 weeks with an infected teeth? Kind of not the smart thing to do.
Yes I have plans for the fabric. Will find a fabric cafe pattern to use it on.
CJ- hope you have cooler temps today….I know heat is returning soon.
Hope you can both get some crafting in!

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get your teeth extracted but so sorry it was painful you and the lack of caring. I had that happen once and it almost sent me into shock. Please remember not to use a straw for awhile since it can cause dry socket. Ginny - Hope all your results are good and I'm glad you're enjoying the cooler weather. Life is too short not to buy beautiful fabric I went out to Costco this morning so I won't be doing any quilting today. I don't think I'm really saving that much going to Costco (I only go a few times a year to stock up on paper products. I think I might do just as well getting those things in the grocery store. I do like having the membership because I've saved some money there buying electronics. Take care and have a good day!

Thank you both. The other thing he rushed was after the assistant put a little of the hurricane stuff on he didn't give that time either to do any numbing so the injections were painful also. If I need any more dental work I will make sure to ask for the other dentist.
CJ, I never use a straw anyway but thanks so much to both you and Ginny for helping me with aftercare. I did know to put ice on my cheek for 10 min at a time and to rinse carefully and dh kept telling me even before to rinse with warm salt water. It still aches a little today but I think it's going to be fine.
CJ you are sure right, life is too short to not buy great fabric that you love or yarn that I love. I'm sure all three of us can find uses for at least almost all of our craft materials.. We don't have a Costco here just a Sam's club.We used to be members but we also realized that we didn't really save much their except on certain things like CJ said, electronics, and also when they had those markdowns where you had to know what the two ending numbers of the prices were to realize it was a markdown. We got some great deals that way. I really liked their snack area. When you bought a float they crammed the very large cup very full of ice cream and then you served yourself the pop you wanted and could do that over and over. I liked their hotdogs or sausages too. Guess that was one of the reasons I was fat back then. Now you can buy from Sam's online and pay just a couple extra dollars if you're not a member however the only thing we've bought that way was toilet bowl cleaner because they have the Lysol professional which is the best toilet cleaner ever and it's not in the other stores here. We bought it only once but bought enough to last a lifetime while we could still get it.

Good morning
CJ I’m glad you got your trip to Costco out of the way. I’m a member at BJ’s and my daughters belong to Sam’s but I’ve never been in a Costco. I know BJ’s has some great specialty items seasonal nature and they do have a few great buys in bulk of things like toilet bowl cleaner that I like to take advantage of. I agree that some of the sales that are regular stores have. give even better prices than you are available at these large warehouse stores. I hope you can settle in today and spend some time quilting or whatever it is that you like to do. I think you two are probably in for warmer temps starting tomorrow so enjoy the cool day today.
Ruth, take good care of your mouth. Yes rinses with salt water help heal and soothe and CJ is totally right about not using a straw for a few days. I’m sure you can go online and get good medical advice on how to take of your mouth after an extraction. If I remember correctly, the soreness is almost gone after a few short days. Yes I would definitely not use that dentist again. Hopefully by the time you get off this morning, the pain will be going down and you’ll be starting to feel a little bit more normal.
I do go to the doctor this morning, but again from what I’ve seen I’m really not concerned about the few out of range numbers that I saw my blood work. I hope I’m right that it’s just to get this nasty cold that I’ve had. Last night first night and I guess I have to take the prescription cough medicine and I’m happy about that.
Be back later to see how everybody’s doing.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad to hear you were feeling better and I hope that today your mouth is healing even more. Ginny - I hope the cough medicine helped you to sleep and that you're feeling better soon. It's another pretty day here, in the high 70s and sunny. Looks like the hot weather starts on Sunday and runs all through the week - yuck! I'll be glad when it finally gets cooler. I finished making two more Farm Girl Vintage blocks today. I'm not really happy with these blocks when I look at them one at a time, but putting them all together they look a bit better. I just don't do well with making blocks with a lot of small pieces. I even thought about just scraping this project right now - I have 6 blocks made. But I guess I'll try to finish making 6 more blocks and then I'll have 12 blocks for a quilt top. I did get my machine cleaned out this morning, put on a new needle and change the blade in my rotary cutter. I'm going to try challenging myself to doing some hand quilting each day this month. I'm going to quilt at least one threaded needle each day and hopefully by the end of the month I might almost be finished with the mini-wholecloth I started way back at the beginning of the year (or even last year - can't remember ). Hope you are both having a good day and that you'll have a good weekend

I thought I posted here earlier but I don't know what happened since it's not here
Ginny, I hope that your doctor visit went well and that you got good news about the lab tests that were a little off. I hope too that he was able to give advice on your recent illness and that your cough is gone
CJ, I think it's good to challenge ourselves. Maybe every single day wouldn't work for me but there are some things I should challenge myself to do every day. I'm sorry you didn't like the blocks. I think blocks like that with small pieces would be a real challenge and hard to get exactly how you want them.
I've used up two skeins of yarn on this afghan and have a good start on the third so it's coming along. After this one there's only two more skeins and the border. I have so many patterns, both afghan patterns and stitch patterns, that I really like that it's hard to choose which ones to make for this group of six..maybe 7. I keep making lists but then see more that I like also. I do have one more that I started before the baby item marathon so maybe I'll work on that next 16 weeks until Christmas.
