Ruth, as you did not mention your extractions, I can hope that you are healing nicely and are comfortable. I hope and pray that is the case. Great progress on the afghan,! Who is the intended recipient of the afghan that you are approaching being finished with? Are you done with the baby item marathon? Oh my, is Christmas only 16 weeks away??
CJ- I totally hear you, small piece quilt blocks can be a headache and are not perhaps for everyone. Think you have a good attitude about it, that perhaps the sum of the blocks with smaller pieces is the overall effect. is it the blocks themselves or the fabric or both that you are frustrated with the appearance of? I wonder if making a smaller piece (like a table runner or wall hanging instead of a whole quilt) would be more pleasing to you. You always do a great job of figuring out how to make it all work to make a project that is pleasing to your eye. Congrats on getting the machine cleaned and new needle and rotary blade installed. You do so much quilting and sewing that that is important.
My cough is slowly going away. The doctor wants to repeat some of the blood work in a month to see if the results change, which show I am at the present a bit anemic. He feels that perhaps it’s all related to the infection I am getting over, but we shall see.
Going to help DD#2 this morning getting ready to move….then am hoping for a peaceful afternoon. Like CJ, this is the last day of cooler temperatures and then a week of summer heat.

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today and feeling better. Today is a nice weather day, but the heat is coming back tomorrow Ruth - Lately I've been finding all these projects I want to do too. Hope you can make as many projects as you can Ginny - Hope you DD's move goes well and you were able to help her this morning With those Farm Girl Vintage blocks it's two things that bother me - the first is when my blocks don't come out looking even and the second is that some of the color combination of the fabrics in the blocks just aren't appealing to me. I hoped I would love this fabric line and each individual piece is pretty but I don't really like them that much when they are together. I'm going to go ahead and finish 12 blocks and make them into a quilt top - so I'll just keep going with the quilt along. I've wanted to make a Farm Girl Vintage quilt for many years, so this is my chance. This morning I starched and pressed a quilt panel that I'm hoping to make into a top this month. I also found some cute monthly embroidery patterns so I prepared some fabric for those. Then I made a 16x16 quilt block that I'm going to use as a center for the blocks from one of my monthly quilt alongs. I'm making the 6 inch blocks for this quilt along and I've been wondering how I could lay them out to make something. I saw someone in the Facebook group showing a large block she made, so I found a pattern I liked and made mine. Now I can lay out the 12 blocks around the larger one with some sashing and add a few borders and I should have a nice wall hanging or table topper size quilt. Finally I pulled some fabrics for the Moda Blockheads quilt along that starts on Wednesday. I'm still not quite sure how I want to proceed with this quilt along. Since they are breaking it up into two parts, you can choose to make two quilts or one large quilt with all the blocks. I'll guess I'll have to see how it goes. Take care and enjoy your day

Ruth, hope that you were able to work on the afghan and are feeling better each day.
CJ- the farm girl vintage quilts are busy (adorable but busy!!!) and have lots of small pieces, as you have noted. Wow, I guess finish the one you have started….I can see a wall hanging work out of favorite blocks if you do not complete the whole thing.(but it sure sounds like you will finish it). Think that is a sweet idea to make a quilt around the 16x16 inch block with smaller blocks- that is the format of the BOM I made and also the BOM they are offering for this year at the quilt shop. What a nice idea and it will really show off your talent of combining fabrics and designs. Yes proceed slowly with the block head quilt. I guess you can print out the directions for a few weeks and then see if you like the way it’s going. I like the idea that they are breaking it into two quilts or one large one, which might make your decision easier.
Ugh. Helped DD#2 clean the house they are moving into this week so that it’s passable for them. This house needs a LOT of work. Glad I was able to help her. Then Dd #1 and her gang came over and we made 3 batches of grape jelly. Probably another 4-5 batches of jelly out on the vines with grapes that need to ripen. Guess I will get to that at the end of the week.

Hope everyone slept well last night! I woke up to 59 degrees this morning. My windows are still open and it’s nice to hear the birds. I know later on I will have to turn on the air conditioner for most of the week.
Ruth, you sometimes check in later in the evening….hope that your extraction is healing nicely.
CJ, stay cool today…think we only have a week of warmer temps.

Hello Ginny - I'm glad you had some nice cool weather this morning. Hope we both make it though this week of hot days I'm glad you were able to get the grape jelly made. I can still remember my grandmother's grape jelly with a wax seal on top. Ruth - I'm hope your mouth is healing up and you are feeling better. Also hope you have been able to work on some projects. This morning I started working on the borders for a panel quilt. The blocks in the border are half square triangles, so pretty easy to make. I was able to sew on the top and bottom border but then when I checked, I'd sewn the bottom border on upside down I had to rip it all out and now it's ready to sew again. I think I should be able to finish the side borders tomorrow morning. I've been hand quilting each day this month - of course it's only been two days But it's amazing how much can get done with just one needle and thread. If I can keep up daily stitching I'll probably have this done at the end of the month. Hope you get to do some crafting today too. Take care

Hope Ruth is ok.
CJ- yeah for awhile my mom used the paraffin seal on her jelly, but did eventually use the mason jar 2 piece seal. What a bummer that you had to rip out border- I know it’s going to look great. Hope that the side borders go on easily for you. How nice that you are getting some hand quilting time in- and with a hot week, it will be all the more good timing to do that. In conversation with Jane this am, we were discussing hand quilting, and her hand quilting project. Sounds like you will have that project finished by the end of the month which I know you hope to accomplish.
Got some machine time in on the baby quilt. Sounds like a good idea to work on it tomorrow when it’s supposed to be so warm.

I'm here and ok, I just keep getting distracted when I think about coming online. The tooth and jaw do ache but is tolerable and so far helped with tylenot. Thank you for your support.
CJ, I'm sorry to hear that you got the border piece on upside down. I hate when that happens to me in crochet. As Ginny said though, it's easier to rip out crochet than a seam..unless you have all ends weaved in there. Two days down on the handquilting plan is a great start. Sometimes I have a plan and don't even get the first day of it done.
Ginny, I don't know if I said it already but I hope that your blood test results are all back within normal range when you have them repeated. I'm glad you got in some sewing time. While it's hot seems like a good time to stay in with the a/c and do some sewing.
It's strange thinking about my new grandaughter's expected arrival date which is tomorrow and means that her mom will be in labor on Labor day. I think that all of their children have arrived after the expected date though so this one probably will also.
I'm about half way through the third skein of yarn for this afghan and have only one more after this. And I know the pattern I'm going to use next but just haven't decided on colors yet.
