bbbearsmom, did you read the article in the WSJ on the selling of the AR-15? Pretty depressing.

lani, I haven't read it. My husband is currently reading the paper. Maybe I'll read it later.

bbbearsmom, the point I got from the article is that the proliferation of the AR-15 was primarily a marketing push by large investors who took over a smaller company that was manufacturing the gun. The NRA definitely played a part, but profit was the main driver. The gun is cheap to make and can be sold at a very high price. Like a 40% profit vs. maybe 5% for other guns. I'm working from memory here, as the paper has been recycled already. But I think my figures are in the ballpark.

Suit is being brought against Abbott and Paxton by a parent in TX regarding student being repeatedly punished for what the school says violated hair dress code for males. “School officials say George's locs fell below his eyebrows and ear lobes, according to local media reports, which violates the district's dress code for male students.” Do schools still seriously have these antiquated hair rules? My dad used to tell me about that when he was in school in the late 60s and early 70s where he grew up in small town Missouri. He had thought them ridiculous back then because it’s when many boys were wanting to grow their hair during the hippie movement. It is shocking to me that schools actually still care about something so stupid. Focus on the important things like actually educating them and not banning books or hairstyles. www.npr.org/2023/09/22/1200374764/crown-act-texas-hairstyles-law-nationwide

finreporter, "back in the day" the reason was that, since all boys were required to take shop/woodworking/whatever classes, the hair could get caught in machinery and cause injury. I remember in school, in home ec, we had to wear our hair either tied back or in a net like the cafeteria ladies wore to prevent it getting sucked into an appliance lol.

I don’t doubt there were practical reasons but there are also hair nets or rubber bands that can keep hair back for safety measures. We didn’t have home economics classes but we had cooking electives and you had to keep your hair back but you certainly weren’t told how your hair should be outside of that. I also doubt that any females who may have taken woodshop were asked to cut their hair above the ear lobes and brows.

George's locs fell below his eyebrows and ear lobes, But he wears his hair up so it's not an issue. I guess they are saying if he wears it down it would happen? It's a stupid rule in any case.

Yeah I think I read in another article that he wore it down one day and the school admin had some thoughts on that. I don't recall what it was that finally led to an at home suspension but they kept giving him in school suspension for the previous times they took issue with it.

Can't make a budget, can make an unsubstantiated impeachment hearing.

Seriously! These clowns are showboating and nothing more. Please let the 2024 elections bring an end to dive bar boebert and the rest of them who simply like to hear themselves speak.
In good voter registration news, Taylor Swift has been encouraging fans to register and there have been huge increases in registration thanks to her. We could be very close to turning the tide and get control of all three if we can get more voter turnout! Especially since Dive Bar only won by 546 votes in her district. Her opponent is running against her again and after the beetlejuice antics hopefully enough people have finally had enough.
