Hello Ginny - Hope you are surviving the heat, it's really bad. I'm glad it wasn't like this all summer. Ruth - I'm sorry to hear your your mouth is not healing well, I hope the dentist can help. I'm glad you found out about your DH's appointment, hope that goes well. Sorry to hear you had to rip out so much of that afghan, I feel your pain It's hot here! I'd can't wait for the heat to lessen this weekend. The house is very hot inside. I pretty much have to stay in just a few rooms and not move around a lot to stay fairly comfortable. This morning I made the block for the quilt along from A Quilting Life. I thought it came out good and took a picture of it with the other 8 blocks and then when I looked at the picture I saw I had one of the HSTs in the wrong place - so ripping commenced I have it fixed now. I'm thinking about starting some sashing with these blocks, I'd like to get ahead of things. The quilter hasn't given a layout yet, but I might just do my own. I also made 3 versions of the first block for Moda Blockheads 5. The block is a signature block, but I'd probably use it on the front of my quilt: my.modafabrics.com/inspiration-resources/blockheads-5-kick-weekI wasn't that thrilled with any of my blocks. So I decided to scrap one version altogether. I'll keep doing the other versions for a few blocks and see what I think. I'm doing one version in the 6 inch size and another in the 12 inch size. I have a gigantic stack of fabrics to put away in my stash area, so I'll do that tomorrow. I also want to make a test block of another pattern I've had to try and see if the fabrics work or not. It's been too hot to do any hand quilting, so I'll have to catch up with that when it gets cooler. Hope you both get to do some crafting too. Take care!

Ruth, what a bummer on the afghan!!! Hope that catching up on the afghan to where you are is easy and that you are able to finish the afghan by this weekend- which I think was your target date to finish it. Well with each passing day….there is a greater likelihood that the little one will be born. How is DDIL feeling?
Helped DD#2 with some housework, getting the house ready to be turned over. Glad I went to help her, but it was more work than I thought. I really dislike moving….its not for the faint of heart. They should have everything all done by tomorrow morning and can then focus on unpacking.
CJ- hope you had a great day and was able to stay comfortable..

CJ- we were posting at the same time=- the blockheads block is so cute!!! (I am tempted…..) glad that you decided to scrap the one version all together, then no buyers remorse there!!! I hear you…think we have one more day of this extreme heat and then cooler temps start to set in.

Hello It's another hot day here. I think by Sunday it gets cooler. Hope your weather isn't too bad. Ruth - I hope your DH's appointment goes well today. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to help your DD, hope her move goes well. You should just save the patterns for Moda Blockheads, then you could do them later. They are all star blocks this year (at least that's what the theme is). This morning I started on another quilt from a pattern I'd bought this year. I wanted to use some pretty seaglass fabric in aquas and blues for this quilt: meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/2015/06/sea-star-pattern-launch.htmlI think I'm only going to make the baby size which is 9 blocks, and then add and inner and outer border onto it. I finished one block today and have the fabrics ready for several more blocks. I hope to keep working on it through the weekend. I did end up having to rip out some seams since I wasn't paying attention to the pattern. I got all that done and finished up in my sewing room and came downstairs and then I remembered I hadn't put the fabric away! I'll try to get that done this weekend. Hope you both have a good day and get to do some crafing too

CJ, I really like this Meadow Mist quilt. There are a couple of the ones she showed that I didn't care for the fabrics used as they looked too busy to me but some are really nice.I think your aquas are going to look great with this pattern.I liked the one you gave us the link for yesterday too. It looks pretty easy like it might be something I could do if I tried quilting.
Ginny, your family is truly blessed to have you. You always pitch in and help whether it's in babysitting or helping them with their home. I hope your dd's move goes well.
Well the other day when I was talking to the receptionist I was wondering is she was actually right about dh's app't. She seems to have a hard time letting people talk to the woman that actually does the scheduling. So again last evening when we didn't get a reminder call I wondered again and sure enough, this morning she called and said that dh does not have an appointment after all and that they will call when they get an opening. We were going to shop afterward but now we've decided to just stay home so I'll have a bit of extra time to crochet and maybe make my goal of getting this afghan done.Last night I did start a baby sweater for work on at the doctor's office since the blanket is too large to carry around but I'll put that on hold till my dentist app't next wed.
I hope you both have a good day and are able to get in some things you enjoy

Ruth, well communications are everything, aren’t they? That is really awful that the communication on DH’s appointment has been so bungled. I pray for good timing for the appointment when they do get an opening. Gee, staying home sounds like a great idea and I am glad you started on a smaller and more transportable project like a a baby sweater. I hope that you are getting near the end of the afghan, which I am sure will make you happy.
CJ- gee that is a pretty quilt pattern and yes sea glass colors and fabrics would be stunning in it. It reminds me a little bit of a storm at sea pattern- which is one of those bucket list patterns for me- well someday. We got thunderstorms here an hour or so ago and the temps are starting to break. Tomorrow will be a few degrees cooler and I pray that the same holds true for you. Now they are talking about that Hurricane Lee- which I pray will just spin out in the ocean and impact no one. So sorry that you had to rip some seams out. With as many different patterns as you take on, it’s no surprise that you make an occasional miscalculation. Think making the baby size will be so pretty and you get to see the lovely pattern without all the work of a full size quilt.
Hot here again. I worked this am and then when I came home did some mandatory reading (which I will be paid for) on stuff like sexual harassment and reporting child abuse. I figured I should just get it out of the way when it is too obnoxious to go out. When I get home tomorrow I will be sewing- Ds is working a double and I just have to reheat dinner.
So no crafting today but that is by design. Dd finished settling the house- and the closing is tomorrow (which she and DSIL do not have to attend as they have signed off on everything already). They needed the help last nite. Moving is a LOT of work and I do not think they were quite aware of how much work it is.
Time for me to get some rest….hope you sleep well!!!

Good afternoon to all. I hope you're both having a good day and that it's a little cooler there now.
I did get the last skein of yarn used up last evening and today wove in all the ends and started the border. I hope to get it done today.
I was heating my coffee in the microwave and the little tab inside the door frame must have broken off because the door won't latch now so the micro won't work. Luckily I had a spare. In fact the spare is a brand new one we bought about a year ago and never even took it out of the box. This one is pretty small but we never use the micro for anything large anyway.
See you all later. Have to take another break from crocheting to clean up the kitchen a little and look for a mat to put uner the micro to keep it from sliding on the countertop

Hello Ginny - Your DD is fortunate to have you help her with the move. I hope you get cooler weather this weekend. I think it's supposed to go back into the 80s this weekend here. Ruth - I'm glad you finished that last skein of yarn and have the ends woven, hope you can finish it today. That's lucky to have the backup microwave. I'd have to go out immediately to get a new one if mine broke, I use it every day and sometimes multiple times a day. It's just easier to make a quick meal for one in it. I made a lot of progress on the seaglass quilt this morning and should be able to get the 9 blocks finished tomorrow and joined together. I want to put and inner and outer border on and those should be quick. I need to stop working on new projects and try to concentrate on starting some of the layouts for the monthly quilt alongs, but there are so many quilts I want to make it's hard to stop At least I do have time to get those other tops together since we won't have the last blocks until December. Take care!

A short hello here….Aw CJ, there are so many pretty projects!!! I am glad you made decent progress on the sea glass quilt. It seems to be going quickly for you. Are you pleased with how it’s turning out?
Ruth, well the good thing about a broken microwave is you can throw it out! How wonderful that you had another one, new in the box too.
Cold front is here-heavy rains……and hopefully cooler temps.

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today. We had heavy rain here last night and today it's in the high 80s, so a bit cooler. Looks like a chance of storms this weekend and then next week it will get cooler. I finished the Seaglass quilt top this morning. It was a good pattern, although I have to admit I mostly look at the pictures in the pattern and put the quilt together my own way Sometimes that works fine and sometimes it's a problem. This time it worked out. I put a 2 inch inner border and a large 5 inch outer border to show off the seaglass fabric. I think my next project is trying out one block from this pattern: www.fatquartershop.com/wooly-stars-downloadable-pdf-quilt-pattern-coriander-quiltscorianderquilts.com/coriander-seeds-quilts/ - scroll down to see part of the actual quilt I don't think I'll make a full quilt, but maybe a table runner or a wall hanging, if the block isn't too difficult. I've been wanting to make this one for awhile. I'm going to use a pretty sky blue fabric for the background instead of the tan. Hope you both have a great day and get to do some crafting too. Take care!

CJ, I love the quilt top in the blues. The borders are perfect for those blocks. Yes sometimes I look at a crochet pattern and make it my own and sometimes it doesn't work for me either but sometimes it does so I'm happy. It sounds like you're happy with your's and you sure should be. It's great. Now those goose blocks wouldn't be a favorite of mine but there are so many people that love geese and would love the blocks
I did get my afghan done last evening and went to work on another one that I had started about a month or so ago and again had to do a couple rows over again but I think I'm on track now.
I hope you both are having a good day. I'll stop in later to see if Ginny has come in.

CJ- the sea glass quilt turned out so pretty- and you did an outstanding job piecing it so perfectly. Do not blame you for putting it together as you saw fit- instead of working from the directions. (Honestly I am working on DGD#3’s quilt in a similar fashion). Job well done! The coriander quilt is so cute- I have seen samples of it in both my LQS and the quilt shop in NC.
Ruth, so glad you finished the afghan!!! Nice job getting started on another afghan or adjusting it and getting back on track.
DD came over, we ran some errands and she stayed for quite awhile. I did not get much done today…but it was great to see her and DGS. I did show her the progress on DGD’s quilt and she was very pleased with how it is turning out.

Hello - Hope you are both doing well and having nice weather We've had a mix of showers and sun, but finally the temperatures are in the 80s. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to finish your afghan and had another one to start on. There actually aren't any flying geese units in the quilt I just finished, they are all half square triangles. I used the 8 at a time HST method so it didn't take too long to make them, just the trimming that takes time. I don't mind flying geese units so I might have preferred some of them. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to spend some time with your DD and DGS. Hope you had time today to do some things. This morning I put away all the fabric that had stacked up and also moved around some of the fabrics that aren't sorted by color so that the Fall and Christmas fabrics are on top in case I want to use them to make some thing this Fall. I also made a few orphan blocks from the leftovers from the Sea Glass quilt and another project. And I made a sample block (Dutchman's Puzzle) and basted it so I could use the big stitch hand quilting method to quilt it and see if I liked doing that. I made a small quilt top using several of these blocks and I think I'm going to make some blocks and enlarge that quilt. www.quilterscache.com/D/DutchmansPuzzleBlock.htmlI have a lot of thread that can be used for the big stitch and I was thinking it would be nice to have a quilt to hand quilt this winter. So far I like how it looks, but I'm wondering about taking on a large quilt. At least I have a few months to think about that. Hope you both get to do some crafting today too

CJ, actually I was talking about the squares I saw on that page that had actual geese not flying geese. I need to make myself clearer I guess.

Yes I really like that Dutchman's puzzle. Will you be using the colors that are shown there? I think a large quilt with hand quilting will be a great thing for you in the winter. It will keep you warm while you're working on it or do you have a large frame you put it on?
Ginny, well the housework will wait and I bet your house never needs much cleaning anyway. I'm glad you were able to visit with dd and dgs. How does she like the new house?
DDIL told me son that it would probably be best if they stayed home from church this evening. (Their church meets in the evening instead of Sunday mornings). She's thinking that since the church is not close to their home or the birthing center that she might go into labor and not make it there in time. Today is two of my great grandchildren's birthdays but it doesn't look like dgd is going to be here before midnight so she'll either be born on 9/11 or probably the doctor will induce sometime this week. I think that all of their children have been born after the due date despite the fact that they have better ways to predict EDD than they did when I had my children. My ds was 2 1/2 weeks overdue and that was with induction attempt then c section
