Hello We have a nice sunny day here with temps in the high 70s. Ruth - Hope you did alright last night with the cold. Ginny - Sorry to hear your DS is ill, I sure hope you don't get sick either. I think the thing with the fat quarters is that the fabrics separately look pretty but it's difficult to combine them into a quilt unless the pattern was designed for those specific fabrics (which most of the lines do have). It kind of drains me each week picking out the fabrics for the Moda blocks trying to get the fabrics to go together. A good example is the floral one from this week. I thought using the four different colors of the same print would look good but there is not enough contrast in the four fabrics to show the block detail - but I'm not remaking it I finished making my five blocks this morning and they turned out pretty well. I'm posting a picture of the three different Moda Blockheads version and the Fall and Christmas versions of Pat Sloan's quilt along. The Fall version is supposed to look like a churn dash but I kind of lost the pattern by using the green and orange together in the four straight pieces. But I wanted to get all my fabrics in each block of this quilt, so I'm alright with it. Hope you both have a good day and get to do some crafting too. Take care!

Here are all my blocks so far for the Fall version of Autumn Wonders. There are three more blocks for the bottom row and I'm going to do an inner border in the green fabric and a larger outer border in the gnome fabric.

CJ- the autumn wonders quilt is adorable and the gnome fabric really unites all the blocks… bet you have had a lot of fun making it. I do see what you mean with the star blocks and the use of the same fabric in different colors….but honestly it’s a lovely block, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That block might be stunning in combination with another block which allows you to showcase one of the fabrics. I know I am not maing much sense…do not be so hard on yourself… you are trying many different fabric combinations - very bravely so at that.
Ruth - how has your day been? Have you seen any pictures of your new DGD recently? Does she remind you of one of your other grandchildren from that family in apprearance?
Watched DGS at the park while DD went for her prenatal visit. He’s a funny little fellow and it was good to see him and Dd.
Gonna take a shower and then embroider. Hope that I can get to some quilting but tomorrow looks like it might be the day to do that

CJ, I don't know what a churn dash is supposed to look like but I do see what you're saying in the floral fabric yet it does make it's own design with the florals in the middle uniting with the florals on the outer part of the block. The blue looks as though it really shows what the block is supposed to be.I love the autumn quilt. Ginny, I'm sure sorry to hear that your ds is sick and I do hope and pray that he is well soon and that you do not contact this illnessl. Well it didn't even get to 30 today and snowed much of the time. Snow is stopped for now anyway and there really is not much accumulation. You're right Ginny, that I didn't freeze to death and that we do, indeed, have heat DH made this weird concoction this morning using onions, left over baked potatoes, cabbage, fresh tomatoes and pepperoni. I think that was all. Anyway it did taste good. I'm not really a pepperoni fan though but it was tasty.

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today. We have our 80 degree day here today and I think tomorrow too Ginny - Hope you were able to get to your quilting today. Ruth - I'm glad your DH made something you enjoyed, it's always nice not to cook for ourselves. I hope the snow melts soon. If you look at the Christmas block I posted, that's a traditional churn dash block. On the Autumn one if I'd used white instead of orange then the pattern would have shown better. But I needed to use all the colors in that block. I finally decided how I'm going to put together the Christmas version blocks I'm making with the Autumn ones for Pat Sloan's quilt along. So I sewed up all the borders this morning and once the next three blocks are made, the top is ready to go together. It really helps me to get ahead in these quilt along. I'm hoping that in November a couple of the other quilt alongs will give us the layout so I could start it before December when the last blocks come out. I also added some 4 patch blocks to a large friendship star I'd made out of two fabrics. It measures 31x31 right now, but I was thinking about making it larger, I need to think about it for a bit. I have a few more things I'd like to finish before the end of the month - machine quilting and binding a small table topper and making another envelope pillow cover from a quilt block I made from leftover half square triangles. Take care and have a great weekend!

Ruth, so glad you did not freeze…and gee your Dh is adventurous in the kitchen!! Glad his concoction tasted so good. Now the interesting question is, can he recreate it?
CJ- yes I did notice that the Christmas block was churn dash- it’s a very easy to spot style. Yes I can also see that the autumn block is churn dash, but its the use of color.. Nice work….
Got very little done today. Got a call from DD this am that she was in labor, and I had DGS here from 8:45 on. My new DGD is here- healthy and DD looks great. I will go back to the hospital tomorrow am to see them again.

Congratulations, Ginny, on the new grandaughter. I'm happy and thankful that all went well. Did you take dgs up to see his mom and sister?
CJ, I did see on tv this evening that you were going to have some hot weather. Not here but it will be warming up a little. Thank you for pointing out the churn dash.Yes you are very good with keeping up with the QAL's.
I haven't done much today but crochet. I've made a lot of hats in the last 10 days because I do those in the evening and it's a great way to try new patterns. Last evening I made one in the round where you have to turn on every round and I dislike doing those but I did get it done. It was a Youtube video so at least I could see where she put the stitch after turning.
Have a great weekend everyone.See you tomorrow

Oh, Ginny, neither dh nor I could ever recreate exactly anything we make because we don't follow recipes. Most of the things we make often do turn out to taste about the same so we must guess correctly however this cabbage and leftover potato dish will probably never be made again just because it was primarily made with leftovers

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today and having nice weather. We have another warm day here, sunny but low humidity. Ginny - Congratulations on your new granddaughter. I'm glad to hear that your daughter and the baby are doing well. Ruth - It's really great that you find those hats so easy to make. Will you be donating some of these or are they gifts for family? I finished a lot of quilting things today, too bad I don't do housework as well as quilting I finished making the new pillow cover and it has a big red friendship star in fabric that is red and white snowflakes, so it will be fun to put it out in December. Picture is before I made the pillow cover. Then I made the binding for a small (18x18) table topper. Then I did the machine quilting on this piece and sewed on the binding. I meant to sew the binding onto the back but forgot and sewed it on the front, so then I just stitched it down in the ditch from the top. I'm happy with how this came out. I made this with leftover scraps from another quilt. I don't mind machine quilting these small pieces. I just need to start trying some larger tops too. I'm adding another picture of the hand quilted piece I finished this month. This afternoon I decided to start another top (Yes, I'm crazy ), but I finished pressing/starching all the pieces and everything is cut. I'm using leftover fabric from that Lori Holt Farm Girl Vintage quilt I did. Even after using these fabrics, I still have a bunch of fabric from that fat quarter bundle. The pattern I'm using is one from Fat Quarter Shop and Pat Sloan mentioned she was going to make one, which led me to it. I'm only going to make 12 blocks, and I should be able to finish the top by the end of the month. www.fatquartershop.com/fat-quarter-four-patch-quilt-pattern-free-pdf-pattern-fat-quarter-shop Take care

CJ, the piece for the Christmas pillow is really nice. It will look very pretty in your living room I also think the machine quilted one is very pretty and it looks like you did a great job on the quilting. Same here with housework. I do what's really necessary and sometimes not even that. Crocheting and looking at patterns is much more fun.The hats I'm making are to donate.
Ginny, I'm glad you got to see your new grandbaby again. I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of her.
It's still really cold here today so I didn't do much except crochet and look through all the medications we have to weed out those that are expired.

Hello - Hope you are doing well today It's a bit cooler here today, but still in the 70s. Looks like it will get colder this coming week. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to see the new granddaughter again Ruth - Hope it will get a bit milder for you. I just recently went through my over the counter medications and threw out some old ones. I like to keep them on hand, even if I don't have to use them. This morning I finished putting together the 12 quilt blocks I started yesterday. They went together pretty quickly. I also cut a small inner and larger outer border and pieced those strips together so they are ready to be put on. I'll probably do that tomorrow. Hope you get to do some crafting today too. Take care
