Another Monday! The good news is, November does not start until mid week next week- as i was setting up the thread for the week it made me wonder about when November began. I like November….but it sure does mean that Christmas is not too far off…and I am surely not ready for that!!!!
Got my sewing room straightened out a bit last nite. Put away all the fabric from the panel quilt and became more organized for the baby quilt, which I have to get myself going on to finish. As DD’s house, which needed and still needs a LOT of work is still being worked on, the baby’s room is not ready yet…..so I do not feel guilty that the quilt is not ready. I think my next step is to work on sashing . So that sounds like progress, even though the quilt is in smaller pieces.
Hope you slept well last night and can get some crafting time in today!!

Hello - Hope you are both having a nice day with good weather. It's sunny here, but cool.
Ginny - The panel quilt looks great, I like the borders you put on it, they really show off the panel nicely. I'm glad you have some time to work on the next quilt.
Ruth - Hope you are working on some nice projects.
This morning I did some organizing in my sewing room. My fabric stash was a mess, so I got that straightened out. And I think I've figured out how to layout the Christmas quilt blocks, but I'll wait until November to decide for sure.
After that I decided it was time to pull out my project box for those Bitty House blocks I started at the beginning of the year. I've just been throwing fabric pieces into the box for months. So now I've sorted the fabrics for the sky and the sides of the house and then I'm going through the fabrics I have for the actual house part to make sure I don't duplicate any houses I've already made. I have 58 houses made and I need to make 74 more for the layout I want to do. So I'm hoping to get fabrics cut so that when I feel like it I can make a few houses at a time.
Hope you get to do some crafting today. Take care!

Hello everyone. It's good to see you both.
Ginny, I'm sure your friend's husband was really happy to receive that quilt. I love the way you did the corners. Yes now to finish that baby quilt.
CJ, wow, 74 blocks are a lot of blocks. I'm glad you've decided on the layout of your Christmas quilt. And good job on organizing your sewing room. I need to go in and do a little organizing on mine before football starts but each time I go in there it seems like an impossible job because of all the yarn I have and actually have at least two boxes of fabric also. I should sort that fabric out once again and get rid of the fabric I'll never use. I do want to save some for lining bags and in case I get inspired to do some sewing. I still have a lot of fleece also for making blankets..that's a third box
Going to the grocery store these days is so depressing. Prices are higher each time we go. Added to that is how the stores manage to overcharge each time. The store owes me $2.35 from the two items they overcharged me on. Now we're home, groceries are put away and it's almost time to watch football and crochet.
It was nice weather today. Only in high 60's but I'll take that over what's coming up starting on the weekend.
Ok time to get to work.

Hello - Hope you are doing well today and having nice weather. It was another sunny day here with temps a bit warmer. Ruth - I know what you mean about the cost of groceries. Even with me buying just for one, I average around $80 to $100 a week. It's really crazy. Hope you were able to enjoy the football and crocheting. Ginny - Hope you have been able to work on some crafting and things aren't too busy for you. Last night I finished the binding on my hand quilted medallion quilt. I don't mind the hand stitching, but I can't imagine hand stitching the binding on a large quilt! I went out this morning for some shopping and errands. When I came home I ripped off a border I'd added to a block I'm going to use in one of my block of the month quilt alongs. I just haven't been happy with the color and fabric, and have decided on another fabric. So at least that's done and I can add the new borders soon. The new blocks come out for Pat Sloan and ModaBlockheads tomorrow, so I'll be busy the next few days picking fabric and cutting it for the blocks. Take care

CJ-I bet having the decision over with to remove the border that you wanted to change the color of is a huge relief. Perhaps I am wrong but sometimes decisions like that are painful and irritating- and it’s a relief to make the decision and get the irritation of ripping out stitches over with. Bet you will be even more pleased when you get the new border on. Gee…..74 more little houses? Not too many to keep track of, right? I was wondering how that quilt was coming along, and I do love the concept of it. That is pretty exciting that the new Pat Sloan and Moda block heads blocks come out tomorrow…and great that you are looking forward to selecting the fabrics to make those blocks.
Ruth, yes food prices are absurd. I was shocked last week at what I spent for what seemed to be nothing. Hope that you are able to straighten out what you were charged the improper amount for without too much difficulty. It’s a nuisance indeed. Were you pleased with how the football games ended yesterday?
Babysat again today…and I am done for the week with that. DD#2 stopped over with DGS, and he played with his cousin. A bit of a crazy day for me and then DD #1 had a mini shower for DD#2. So I got back very late. I was concerned this am over my orange tree, which I do bring in for the winter. Temps got pretty cold last night, but not enough for frost. I have a few warm days ahead and then some cold nights next week. Ds will have to bring the orange tree in.

Good evening all. The day kinda got away from me. I had some housework to do and then worked on my afghan.
CJ, It's great that you took the old border off the block since you didn't like it. I know it feels good to have that done. Now you have the new blocks coming out tomorrow to work on and decide on the fabrics for those. It's good that I'm not a quilter because I'd never getting anything done because all my time would be taken up trying to make decisions on what fabrics to use.
Ginny, it does sound like you had a busy day but it's nice that your daughter had a shower for her sister.I know the two boys were glad to be together and play for awhile too.I'm glad your orange tree did not get damaged by the cold. It got down to 32 here during the night and I saw that your area had temps in 30's also.
Well I do wonder about myself sometimes. I picked the yarn from my stash for the afghan I've been making and somehow didn't realize that just one 8 oz skein of each of two of the secondary colors would be enough. Now I'm out of the one color and almost out of the second. I have plenty of my main color but I haven't figured out a good way to make this look good. It's much wider than it is long.I can add length using only the main color at both ends but when you add to your starting end it always leaves that weird line. I'm going to do it anyway just so I can get it done. Then I'll have a million ends to weave in...well maybe not that many but a LOT.each row has an yarn to weave in at both ends. Then at least a small border. From now on I'm going to make all my blankets in one color or just do random stripes so it doesn't look funny when I run out of a color or two

Aw, Ruth, that stinks that your yarn useage is off and you will have to add on to the beginning- I had that happen to me many years ago. Think it’s a great idea for you to change to afghans of only one color. A small border can be added in a contrasting color if you want to “personalize” the afghan. Ruth, the brief view I got of the national weather indicated that you are in for a few days of snow..I am sure you and Dh are well stocked. Be safe….

Good morning all.
The only problem with the idea of making one color afghans is that with all the yarn I have, I don't have enough of one color to complete an entire afghan or even a baby blanket with most of my yarns.I'll have to make what I can in one color then get creative with color blocks or maybe sit and figure out the math to find out exactly how much of each color I need.If my grandchildren weren't all so tall I could make shorter blankets
Yes tonight it's supposed to get down to 19 degrees. I need to get out some warmer clothes today before the cold and snow gets here starting tomorrow.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Ruth, only because my friend was doing so, I started pulling out my cold weather stuff about 3 weeks ago. Gee, your family is all tall? Sorry I sort of misinterpreted your problem or your solution to it. I know you will work something out so you can use the yarn! 19 degrees is cold and winter for sure. Are you supposed to get much snow? I heard some high snow totals for the northern plains….but think you are sort of lower northern plains.
CJ- I got an email with todays blockhead block, and it’s adorable!!! Cannot wait to see what you do with it.
Think I will get some embroidery done.

Hello Ruth - Hope you stay warm with the colder weather you are now having. I also hope you can work out some yarn combinations for your afghans. Ginny - Hope your orange tree with be alright. You're probably getting some of the warmer days of weather that I'm getting before it gets colder again next week. It was warmer here today - in the 70s and sunny. I think we're supposed to get up to 80 this weekend! This morning I spent several hours picking out and cutting the fabrics for the 5 blocks I need to make for the two quilt alongs. So I'll be working on getting those 5 blocks made over the next few days. If you ever read me posting about making another quilt using a fat quarter bundle you are welcome to remind me how frustrating I find that to be Seriously, I really need to never buy a fat quarter bundle again, it just doesn't work with the style of quilting that I like. For the house blocks, I'm trying to pick out all my fabrics for the bottom of the houses and make sure I don't have any duplicates. Then I want to make sure I have a good mix of sky fabrics (I'm using blues and grays with a few whites) and finally pick a roof fabric that matches the others. If I can get all those pieces cut and stacked together then I can sew houses as I have time. I'm sure it would be easier for someone who isn't worried about the overall "look" of the quilt but just wants a nice scrappy quilt - but you know how I don't like making scrappy pieces Take care

Ginny, no you didn't misinterpret what I said. I did say that I needed to do some in all one color however I realized afterward that for most colors I don't have enough to make an entire afghan or even a lapghan size. I have plenty in the ugly pink I have in pound of love. I have to find some uses for that. Doing dgd's Snowy Mountain afghan used a lot but I still have a LOT left. And, yikes!! It's just barely 7 here now and it's already down to 28. I'm coming to stay with you CJ. Ginny, it does sound like a good idea to embroider. You did mention that it's relaxing for you and that it's a good thing to do while watching tv. CJ, Ok we'll remind you if you mention buying fat quarter bundles . I know what you're saying on the scrappy quilts. I dislike making scrappy crochet items. I have, actually seen one scrappy afghan that is pretty but I know mine would be a disaster. I bet that you really wouoldn't have a problem making a scrappy though because you really have a knack for putting colors together. Your houses quilt is going to be really pretty. It's the one you showed us some pictures of blocks you made earlier this year isn't it or was that a different house quilt. I do remember you mentioning the roofs. See you all tomorrow if I don't freeze to death....and that reminds me that I need to get a couple more blankets out

Ruth, I know you won’t freeze to death as you have to have some sort of heat to keep the pipes from freezing. Is the pink THAT ugly??? And if you are staying at CJ’s, please feel free to stop in to say hello to me. We are only a few hundred miles away from each other. It is warm here today, but I know cold weather is headed in a few days.
CJ- so you are not buying anymore fat quarter bundles….I guess that is because you do end up with smaller pieces of fabrics and fabrics that you might not necessarily like but were in the mix.Love your plan for the house quilt which will be plenty scrappy enough in nature.
Ds is home sick with a bad bad stomach virus. I am staying away from him and really hope I do not get it. And I am washing my hands , what feels like constantly G
