Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, playing a musical instrument, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store ,researching a new quilt shop, attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. And one of us is never going to buy a fat quarter bundle again! We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Good morning to those 14 viewers who stopped in but did not say hello. I figure one must be a moderator….seriously, about this web site, I have only had one or two issues here where someone was picking on me (super nasty person who had a foul political agenda). Other than that, its been friendly chatter. I do give the moderators a ton of credit, think the one time I asked for intervention I got an immediate and fair response. Thanks to them for what they do!
I did almost finish the embroidery last night. I figure another 5 minutes of stitching and the top is done, ready to wash, block and iron and turn into a pillow. As that has a deadline on it (I want it done in 20 days) I am really glad to have that almost off my list. Think the piece came out well enough. It’s a cute picture.
Sort of a warm ish day here, and the rain is over with, I think.
Hope you slept well and have a good day.

Hello Ginny - Hope you can get that stitching done so you can get it made into a pillow Ruth - Good Afternoon to you It is a bit milder here today too and the fog is finally gone, it seemed like it would be here forever I went out earlier today to pick up my new glasses, so now I just have to get used to them. It will be good to be able to see the road signs better, they were getting a bit blurry for me. I also did some shopping while I was out and I was so happy to find the Betty Crocker Gingerbread mix this year. I hadn't been able to find it the last few years. I love to make this each year at Christmas. My mother used to make this (at a different time of year), so eating it always reminds me of happy times. I was going to make some gingerbread by scratch, but I'm much happier making this one that you only have to add eggs and water The last block for the A Quilting Life 2023 BOM came out today along with the final layout instructions. I sure wish I could get this block made and the top finished, but I don't think I'll have time this week. But maybe I can get it done by the end of the month. The sashing pieces and the cornerstones are finished, so it's just putting the center together and then the inner and outer borders. www.aquiltinglife.com/quilt-block-of-the-month-december-2023-finishing/Hope you both enjoy some crafting today. Take care

Yes, CJ, I also saw those block instructions, guess I will have to search for the final layout instructions. I really liked that most of the blocks she put out this year. Did you save the separate instructions for each block? Congrats on the new glasses! I hope your eyes adjust easily to them, some individuals take a few days until a new prescription feels right . That is awesome that you were able to find the Gingerbread mix!!! Nothing like a good memory from the past and I bet that the house smells amazing when you bake it. And I totally agree with you about using a mix, I make a lot from scratch, but sometimes a good mix works just fine.
Aw Ruth, I forget how many views we are up to now….just seems so silly that so many stop in and do not say hello. Hope you had a great day.
Well, my crating thus far was making cookie dough with my DGS. We will roll and cut those cookies tomorrow, and cover them with lots of sprinkles. Think DGS is counting on the sprinkles…ha ha ha.
Good idea CJ- I can get a few stitches done on the embroidery before I have to head out this evening…then the embroidery will be finished.

CJ I hope you do get time to do the top finished this month. For some reason we always feel better if we've completed something when the new years starts. Of course you've completed a LOT of tops and also other things quilting related so you already have something to be proud of. I'm glad you found that gingerbread mix. I don't think I've ever seen it or maybe I have and didn't really pay attention.I've made gingerbread from scratch only once and it didn't turn out to be very good. I remember my mother making it and making lemon sauce to put on it.
Ginny, yes the little one will be happy with those sprinkles and it will be fun for you to watch him. (don't look at the ones sprinkled on the kitchen floor) Did you get the embroidery done?
I made some cookies today too but they weren't Christmas cookies. I haven't made cut out cookies in years. Mine were peanut butter oatmeal cookies.I've also done a little crocheting and will do more before the day is over.
Have a good night everyone.

Ruth, bet those peanut butter oatmeal cookies smelled great while baking and tasted even better! I have never made roll and cut peanut butter cookies before (made them in a drop cookie). I am sure Dh appreciated them too. Did you finish the hat that was in your WIP basket the other day? (I remember you had to figure out the pattern for it).
CJ- hope that you had a peaceful evening and that today is productive for you.
Today is sprinkle day! I mean cookie day….got both little boys today and I am sure they will have a great time together rolling out cookies and yes, adding lots of sprinkles. Last night I did get the embroidery finished. I read directions for blocking the piece too- gosh it’s been a long time since I blocked a piece of embroidery and because this is a gift I want to do a good job.
Hope you have a good day

good morning or in your case good afternoon figured the boys were going to cut out. No I've never seen peanut butter cookies rolled out. I do remember when I was visiting Ds's family back in 2006 and he and my ddil went out but before they left they told the kids I'd make cookies with them. There were 3 children at the time and the youngest was 2. When her parents got home she, joyous exclaimed "Grandma made cookies with us and she left us eat some" as though eating cookies was something she didn't expect.. I thought it was so cute.'
I did get the hat done that you're referring to. Yesterday I spent most of the my crochet time figuring out the top increase section of another hat.
Ginny, I didn't know you had to block embroidered pieces. I bet it gives them a really nice finish.Hopefully your little furry assistants on't decide to nap on it while it's drying (well that is if you do a wet block)
CJ, I do hope you're able to do at least a tiny bit of quilting or something quilt related

Hello QUESTION FOR YOU BOTH: This is a strange question (maybe) but what do you use when you wash a dish that you aren't putting in the dishwasher - a sponge, a dishcloth, something else? I have so few dishes to wash that I'm embarrassed to say I mostly use paper towels, but I'd like to start using something else so I'm curious about what others use. Ginny - I hope you and the boys had fun making cookies Ruth - Hope you enjoyed the cookies you made I used to always make Oatmeal Scotchies at Christmas. It was a crazy busy day for me, so I didn't have time to do any crafting. Tomorrow might now be as bad and maybe I could at least get the fabric cut for that quilt block that came out yesterday, but I'll see. Take care

CJ, it's not a strange question at all. I wash all my dishes by hand because I got rid of my dishwasher a few years ago. To wash the dishes I use disposable dishcloths made by Brillo. I find them at Dollar Tree and they also sell them at Menard's. Every time I go to Dollar Tree I buy at least a couple packs. They're nice and strong, rinse out easily and last awhile although I do try to use a new one each week. A lot of people crochet dishcloths and use them. I don't like the feel of them and feel like they get too "icky" I keep thinking of the germs in them because they don't really rinse out that well.Brillo, like I said, rinse out very well and dry fast so that "ickiness" doesn't happen in them
Pretty nice day here today. At 9am it was 50 degrees but the wind is really strong.
I bought another doll from Amazon. You may remember the last one I bought smelled strongly of baby powder to the extent that you couldn't stand to be in the same room with it. This one, thankfully doesn't smell and I like that the hair is molded in the vinyl head. Doll's hair always gets so bad looking or it looks bad from the beginning. I got this one for my new dgd who won't be playing with dolls for awhile since she's a week shy of being 3 months old but it was a Black Friday/Cybe Monday deal. I'd love to have one of those reborn dolls for me but the cost is ridiculous.
See you all later.

Hello Ruth - Thanks for answering my question. I don't have a dishwasher either, and even if I did I've always preferred to hand wash my dishes. I agree with you about the crochet clothes. I'll have to look for the Brillo disposable clothes. I'm glad that you have having some mild weather, hope you enjoy it. I'm glad you found a deal on the doll for your new DGD. Are you going to crochet some clothes for it? Ginny - Hope you are having a good day. How did the cookie baking go? Speaking of cookies, this week one of the quilt blogs I get emails from is having a Virtual Cookie Exchange. Each day several quilters post on their blogs and a lot of them share cookie recipes. In case you'd like to click on the blogs and check them out, here is a link: quiltinggail.com/2023/12/03/virtual-cookie-exchange-and-blog-hop/It's a lot cooler here today, but not too bad just cloudy. It could almost feel like snow if it was a bit colder. I had to go out this morning and got a lot of errands done. I've been having to go out every day for several days, so I'm happy that tomorrow I can stay home. I do have a charity donation pickup scheduled so I have to get the boxes and bags outside before 8:00 A.M. I was able to get PostImages to work, so here are pictures of my Christmas version of Pat Sloon's Autumn Wonders quilt along, with the blocks laid out in the Circle of Nine pattern and the Christmas Interlock quilt where I made 9 large blocks and then put on two borders. The white fabric in this quilt top has snowflakes in it too. I think this pattern would be pretty in other fabrics, so I might make it again some time. It finished at 61x61, a nice size. Take care and have a good day!

Well there it is, the completed embroidery piece. I do know that there is a mark from the hoop, which I have taken care of with a little bit of oxyclean. I think it’s adorable…a very cute pattern. Yes, you do have to block embroidered projects. The small projects that CJ has worked on (which are I figure the same size of this piece which I will make into a 9x9 pillow) are probably not candidates for blocking as much, as the stitch density is not there. This piece, well its got lots of tiny stitches and its blocked and drying at the moment. CJ to answer your question, I do sometimes crochet dishcloths, but you really need to use cotton yarn for that. Most of the time I buy multi packs of store brand sponges, and will also use a scrubber sponge on occasion. Sponges are huge germ breeding grounds, which is why I buy inexpensive (but not cheap) sponges . I throw them out frequently.
CJ- me too on the cooler weather….and your quilt tops are lovely!!! The circle of nine quilt is so pretty and its neat that each block is very different. The Christmas interlock is so pretty- wish I could see that tonal snowflake fabric, but we know how that goes….bet it looks so pretty!!! Nice job on both quilts. For my donations recently, I have actually loaded the boxes and bags into my car the night before (and lock it) so I can have it out curbside at 8 am. As I work a lot of Thursdays (and always schedule the pick ups for Thursday) it makes it easier on me and I drive the donations to the curb. Not sure where your pick up is of course it all depends upon which charity you use.
Ruth, yes I do remember the stinky doll!! Glad you were able to find a doll for your newest DGD. I am giving my new DGD a baby doll, but she is cloth and very very soft. Absolutely nothing that she can choke on. Glad you finished that hat, and I am sure are onto another project or two.
Oh gee, the grandsons and the cookies. I made the Dough with DGS#2 on Monday, and Tuesday we were at his house and DGS#3 came over. Yes, I had sprinkles…. Which I put small quantities into a bowl, one for each boy and each had their own cookie sheet. DGS#2 helped roll out a bit and cut his cookie, and he smothered his cookie in sprinkles. DGS #3 tried to put sprinkles on his cookie one by one(such a technique!) until he realized that it was more fun just to eat the sprinkles, to heck with the cookies. Gotta say it was very fun to watch.
Have a good night

Ginny - Your embroidery is beautiful With all the intricate stitches I can see why you would want to block the piece. Thanks for answering my question about dishwashing items. Sounds like the cookie making was fun The charity I donate to will pick up the donations in your driveway. Before the car thefts and break-ins got so bad here, I used to put my boxes in my car the night before too. But now I make sure to leave nothing in the car that anyone can see. My plan is to put the boxes out in the morning before 8:00 and then go back to bed Fortunately I don't have to go out anywhere tomorrow.

Thanks CJ for your kind words.
Yes the charity I donate to will also come in the driveway- from what you have said you live on a busy road so curbside pickup is not a good option. I do not blame you one bit for wanting driveway pick up. Lucky you ! You can go back to bed after you get your items out for donation. I always find it a relief when another donation has been completed
