I was turned on to Fairlife milk by Mike (zazzles) on these boards. I buy the Fat Free and really like the taste, plus it's lower in sugar and higher in protein than other skim or fat free milk. Because it's filtered, it has a long shelf life. The container I have right now in my refrigerator is dated August 22. But...it's expensive. I've done some comparison shopping, and was amazed by what I found.
I live in Nashville, and the regular price of a 52 oz. container of Fairlife milk at Kroger and Publix is $4.49. On sale they offer it for $3.99 - better but still not great. Target has started to carry it, and their regular price is $3.19. Much better than Kroger and Publix.
I would rather stick a needle in my eye than go to Walmart, but occasionally I find myself there out of either convenience or necessity. Walmart's regular price is $2.98! I bought 2 containers, and the next time I'll get 3.

Thanks for the report—that's interesting research. I've reached the the point where the benefit of the product isn't worth the outrageous price. But the pricing isn't a surprise given that FairLife is a product of Coca Cola.
You opened my eyes to the fact that the containers aren't a full half gallon—I never bothered to look at that.
I shop WalMart all the time, but the lowest price I've seen there is $3.50 AND they never carry the fat-free variety. (What is it with the stores where the poorest folks shop never carrying the healthy versions of foods!)
I will trip down to my Target to see if they have started carrying it. It would be a reason for me to go there once in a while—my Target stores are just not in my usual travel patterns. Buying at Target also nets me the Red Card cash discount, and I like getting that!

Mike,
I've noticed the same thing. The Kroger closest to my house serves an area with a lot of lower middle class residents. The store carries the basics, but when it comes to the healthier versions of food items, forget it. We end up having to drive a few miles to an affluent neighborhood to get good cuts of meat and better produce.
I remember watching a TV program on the availability of firearms on the street, and an older African-American woman said it was easier to buy a gun in her neighborhood than a tomato.

My Kroger got rid of their "health food" section last year! The one I visit also services a lower income area. At least they moved all the Fage yogurt with the regular yogurt selections! It was just nice to have all the health food stuff in one area. I've never tried the Fairlife milk. I'm not a big milk drinker anyway.

Has anyone ever seen Fairlife at Costco? I need to check that out next time I'm there. My teenager drinks milk like crazy which is great, except I do like to monitor the sugar and fat content.

I have never tried the Fair Life milk, mostly because I am cheap. If you are cheap, like me, and are just looking for regular milk, I have found the best price is usually at Aldi's. Our local Aldi's has been running a special for the past 3 weeks on a gallon of regular milk (fat free, 1%, 2%, and whole) for 98 cents a gallon. I know it is probably only temporary and not everyone has Aldi's near them, but 98 cents for a whole gallon of milk is amazing!!

squid , I checked Target today and their price is $3.99 a container for FairLife. As I recall, when I can find it at WalMart the price is $3.50 a container.
@coloradolime , Keep in mind that unless you're talking about chocolate milk (or some other flavored milk product) the sugar listed in milk is NATURAL sugar—Lactose. And the benefit of the filtered milk, which removes a lot of the natural sugar, is that it lowers the total carbs and helps diabetics like me.
jayell13 , 98 cents a gallon—that IS cheap. I generally pay under $2 for a half gallon of Nonfat milk. Gallon sizes are often cheaper, like $3.18 a gallon, but I don't have the room for huge gallon containers in my refrigerator and they are too heavy for me to be wrangling anyway.

I know, but your brain doesn't know the difference between natural or added and artificial sugar. It's all the same and creates cravings no matter what type of sugar you take in. We try to limit all sugar in our house.

I'm not diabetic, and maybe Mike wants to chime in here, but my diabetic co-worker has told me that her body reacts differently when she eats an orange vs. a tsp. of sugar. Are you sure it's all the same?

squid - Yes we eat fruit because it has healthy nutrients and fiber. And your body, meaning blood sugar, muscles, etc. does act different sometimes when interacting with different types of sugar. Your brain however does not care if the sugar is natural or not, all it knows is that its getting a sugar high and will in turn increase sugar cravings to get that high again.

I buy Fairlife milk usually at Giants or Martins (Pennsylvania and Maryland area). Every now and then they have it on sale for 2/$6. I usually buy 2 when it is on sale. I try not to think of the extra cost. I figure I am worth spending a little extra money. For a while I switched to the generic skim milk and I just did not like the taste.

My friend, who has diabetes, was told by her Dr. to switch to Plain Almond milk. Because the sugar content is very low.
As to fruit, she was told she can eat fruit but it must be accompanied by some other food. For example, apple with peanut butter. Accompanying the fruit with something else slow down the absorption of the natural sugar in the fruit.
Her diabetes is induced by meds she must take.

I drink unsweetened cashew milk bc I like it better.I ate fruit more when I was diabetic and wasn't told to eat something else with it but my diabetes was caused by obesity not other meds. Now I only eat berries bc the fiber outweighs the carbs.
I did notice the only Fairlife my local WM sells is the chocolate. They used to carry the Fairlife 2% but I live in a small town so I guess it didn't sell.

Went to Walmart last night, and they were all out of the fat free; only had 2%, whole, and chocolate. Grrrr.....now I wonder if it's worth another trip over there this weekend.

I girded my loins this morning and took on Walmart. Purchased 3 containers of Fairlife skim for under $10 including grocery tax.
