Merry Christmas…great avatars.
I like remembering when we first moved here and went to mom and dad's over in Phx when there were just them, us, my brother and his wife ,don, and toddler. Their son is now 45, and The toddler is now 40. Then everybody came us after that, and all the my brother's kids and the oldest grands wistfully remember the huge appetizer table, the onion soup in special China bowls, ,then the big prime rib feast at table with China, champagne and candles until I was 69 and could not do it. I wish somebody else in the family has some cooking ability. Dsil is so tired at 67 we had Costco paper plates and small plastic silverware. But at least family was fun.
Love having it all behind us Xmas day and quietly pop the roast beast into the over, heat up the potato casserole and stuffed mushrooms and a veg and spend a restful day looking at the cookbooks I got! There are four!

Linda, you sound like my GF. She hosts all the holiday family gatherings. She used to do all the dishes. Now she just does the entree and everyone brings a side dish or dessert. Your dinner tonight sounds great.
Kathy, I hope your gathering at DMs is fun.
Karen, I hope you, Dale and Arya are enjoying a nice meal and a movie. We watched A Christmas Story while cooking and are planning on watching Die Hard.
Iggy gave me a vegetarian cookbook and said if I pick out 3 recipes a week he’ll make them and eat them. I think he’s coming around to veggie town. He loved the pasta maker and can’t wait to start making noodles.
My GF’s husband went to ED Friday night and had his gall bladder taken out yesterday afternoon and he is back home this morning. She is still cooking and hosting Christmas lunch. I would not have done it.
Have a great afternoon and evening. Like Linda, I will be reading my new cookbook.

nybuckeye, that would be fine if anyone else had an ounce of decent cooking. It was the worst meal I ever had in 77 years. I think she wanted someone else to take it next year, but they will not unless she refuses. I had to do that. If I could manage it, I’d take it back just to have a decent family dinner. Thanksgiving is also going. I do the cranberries and pies now, probably will need to drag a decent veg and maybe dressing since only we old folks like it. But at least I do not have to set up, and clean up at my house. How nice of Iggy ! I guess the surgery patient will have to stay quietly in bed with a light plate.

Merry Christmas!!
Karen, cute avatar! Hope you, Dale and Arya have a great day. Any signs of a white Christmas? It's really dark outside, so we may get some rain later.
Chele, we had a nice gathering last night and stayed up way too late. That's great that your cookbook came with a cook! I'm sure you and Iggy will enjoy the vegetarian recipes. I would not have hosted anything with someone just coming home from the hospital either. I keep seeing the debate over whether or not Die Hard is Christmas movie. I've always thought it was.
Linda, enjoy your quiet dinner. The menu sounds wonderful!

Linda, those big holiday meals are a thing of the past for a lot of families. It's ironic that there are more cooking shows (and cooking networks) than ever, but nobody seems to cook like the used to. There are also more fast food places and options for getting meals delivered. DM/DF used to host and it was 3 grandparents (biological maternal grandfather was never in the picture), great grandmother and a great aunt and uncle plus us 3 kids. DF did more of the cooking than DM but it was a team effort. I guess, with the cook you used to be, people think you need more cookbooks😀. Enjoy dinner. We had our big meal at lunch and kitchen is already cleaned up and first load of dishes in the dishwasher. I'll make Dale some tofu noodle soup for dinner, so there will be another dishwasher load later on.
Chele, what vegetarian cookbook did you get? Like Kathy said, nice that it came with a cook. It sounds like Iggy is finally getting on the meatless train. Maybe he is noticing that it makes him feel better. I know the pasta maker will be used frequently at your house. Sorry about GF's husband. Amazing that she is still doing the big dinner with his just coming home. I guess she doesn't want to disappoint anyone and she probably had all the food bought anyway. Still a lot of work. We finished A Christmas Story and are currently watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
No White Christmas here, Kathy. Like you, it's a wet Christmas. Temps are in the 60s so not too bad. Rain has been pretty spotty. Last Christmas is when we had the flash freeze and Glad you had a nice get together at DM's and I know the one at DS's today will also be nice. I agree on Die Hard being a Christmas movie.
We exchanged gifts after lunch and I plan to make a batch of ginger cookies shortly. The compression garment like the one I use at Osteo is charging and I plan to use it this afternoon. Both Dale and I ran before breakfast to beat the rain. Poor Arya hasn't had a chance to nap all day and is probably going to sleep the entire evening. I made a batch of ginger snaps this afternoon, which are the only Christmas cookies I made this year. Very unusual that I haven't made any before now. Hope everyone is having an awesome day.

Hope your day all finished well.
enjOY the ginger cookies,
it occurs to me that we could all chip in on dinner and have it delivered next year. There are some upscale groceries and stores that do that.
Wow, got migraine which caused nausea. DH has headache and we both want nothing more than chicken soup. Putting off cooking prime rib until tomorrow or whenever…fine with me as we are both tired and I did too much. Peace and quiet is lovely with no immediate responsibilities!
I like cookbooks , especially foreign just to read sometimes like the one from the Bruno French mystery series with detective who likes to cook. But one is really weird. Chapter on cooking with cricket powder? Hemp seed? Nope. That is going to used books at nearby independent. Irish Granny soups and Irish Granny breads. Also a weeknight Bookof 30 minute stuff. Ordered Mary Berry's Xmas book….from all the specials she's done over the years.
i keep downsizing the collection, but I have about nine feet of shelves with them plus mom's old B. Crocker binder from 50s.
