Good morning,
CJ - first off, I hope that you slept well and found your tape! Were you able to make the gingerbread? I do hope so…. Absolutely a nice carry over for you from one house to another, bringing good memories with you. Funny how you moved some items which are now being staged for donation. It’s so common for that to happen, we think we will use something in a new location and find that the item just does not work. A peaceful day of unpacking and organizing would be so nice for you. Bet your car would wonder (if it could) why it’s not doing the daily trek back and forth. It probably felt like forever to you… but it seems like you made this move in a short amount of time, and largely by yourself. That is quite an accomplishment! Hoping that you can just stay home today, get your machine set up and quilt.
Ruth- so sweet that your DS sent pics of his whole family- bet it was great to see them all together! Were you able to get some crochet time in? I know you had your list of projects from DS’s family of hand made items that they desire to have you make- of course including the car seat toy- think you mentioned it- with little hanging lambs. Of course special mention goes to your DGS who wants the tree skirt. Imagine going forward quite a few years to him getting married and telling his new bride with great affection that he already has a Christmas tree skirt lovingly made for him by his grandma! Did you get much snow- or any? I remember hearing on the weather that a large snow making system was in your general area of the country. Thanks for the update on the Scarpetta series. Think I am 3 books behind…. And I remember being totally furious with the author when she “killed” Benton.
Other than getting a walk in- I think I am staying home today. I have to assemble another 9 tulip blocks and then get them set with sashing to the daisy blocks. My gut feeling is I will quilt this myself. It would be an expensive quilt to send out for long arming.

Yes I got a nice walk in today, short but better than nothing. I did get the tulip squares put together…now I have to trim the blocks, both the tulips and Daisy and pin them together…
From my leftover ham, I did make ham balls…..and amish favorite. Very yummy
CJ and Ruth, hope that both of you had pleasant days and got some crafting time in

Hello Ruth - Hope you made some progress on your crochet projects. I bet it's fun making those lambs and enjoying making the Christmas tree skirt. I'm glad your family shared some Christmas pictures with you Ginny - It's nice that you had a day at home and that you were able to make the ham balls. I'm glad you got the tulip squares put together and I hope that you'll be able to get the quilt quilted yourself. I didn't get to stay home today, but I didn't have to make the long drive to the old house. I met my DB and DSIL at a warehouse store and we bought some large wire racks for me to put in my sewing room/office. Then we assembled them at my rental house and now I'll be able to fill them up with my quilting fabric and supplies. For years I'd wanted to put my fabric on racks, so now I can do that. Last evening I had sorted out the office things from the quilting things so now it will be easier to put things away. I also sorted my already quilted pieces and stacked them by size. Most of them are table runner/topper sizes, with a few lap size quilts. I pulled out several of my Christmas pieces and put them out in the living room. Maybe I'll even try pulling out my sewing machine this weekend and working on some table toppers. I bought two nice 20 inch square end tables for my new living room and the 18x18 rail fence pattern table topper will fit perfect on them. I'll have to see how I feel. This afternoon I went out to a late lunch with family at the Texas Roadhouse. The place was packed! I don't know if it's because it was Friday and a holiday weekend, or if it's like that all the time. They had a special from 4-6 PM for $11.99 for an entree and two sides. I had some chicken fried steak and it was good. I did get to make the gingerbread last night and I enjoyed some then and I'll have the rest this week. I gave a piece to my family when they were at the house earlier. Take care and have a good weekend!

Not only will the gingerbread bring great memories to the new house it will also make the house smell amazing. Of course it tastes good too.
Ginny, I'm glad you were able to get the squares put together. It won't be long until you have the whole quilt done. It's good to hear you were able to get a walk in even if it was a short one.
CJ, I'm so glad you were able to get those shelves!! Now you can set up your craft room/office the way you would like it without having to wait. I've never been to Texas Roadhouse. They opened one here a couple years ago but it, like a lot of things, is on the other side of town although we undoubtedly wouldn't go there even if it was closer. We just aren't eat out people. I hope you can get in some sewing this weekend. The quilt you want to make for those new tables sounds perfect and I'm sure the colors you choose for it will be perfect also. After seeing the rail fence that Ginny used to have as her avatar I'm a big fan.
I have been crocheting today but haven't really accomplished much.I'm still trying hats made side to side and it's still taking me forever. I did get the yarn together for the tree skirt and the lambs.
See you tomorrow and I do hope you both have a great weekend.

Happy Saturday!!
CJ- it sure seems like you had a very busy day, but a good busy (instead of just moving belongings from one location to another. Like Ruth, I am so happy that you that you were able to get the wire mesh shelves, and had help getting them set up. Congrats on finally getting them in your home and set up- a dream you have had for a long time. Now you are entering the fun phase of moving, getting a place set up exactly as you want it. I hope that this weekend you can get your machine set up and start working on the table toppers. Rail fence is a fun and easy pattern to work on…what color scheme do you have in mind? Bet the wire shelves make it so easy for you to look at your fabrics…and see what you have. I love the picture from a quilting life, where she has fabrics neatly on end…(yeah dream on Ginny!). Super happy for tou that you are getting things set up exactly as you want. And I love Texas Roadhouse! Dh enjoyed it there (where they also give a veterans discount every day). My favorite was a chicken salad which is excellent. Glad you enjoyed the chicken fried steak. Glad you made that gingerbread!
Ruth, ok, educate me please, what is a hat made side to side- I am assuming somehow they involve some sewing upon completion instead of a hat made in the round? Good to hear that you got some crocheting time. Have you been able to work on DH’s afghan? How is he feeling? Thanks for remembering the split rail fence quilt which used to be my avatar. They are an easy pattern to work with (hint hint) should you ever decide to take your machine out and quilt. Did you finish reading your book?
Not sure what today will bring. I will start a pot of soup (thinking lentil) and have a to trim some blocks before i do any sewing.

Hello - Hope you've both had a good day and nice weather. It's a bit cooler here and cloudy today. I started putting my fabric on the wire racks, but it's not as much fun as I thought it would be - seems more like work I had hoped it wouldn't take a whole rack for the fabric, but I think it might! I know I'll feel good once it's done. That's about all the crafting for me today and probably tomorrow too. Hope you get to do some fun crafting this weekend. Take care

CJ- well, the process of packing is easy in a way (albeit very time consuming) as opposed to unpacking and now having to organize what you packed. To me, it seems no surprise that your fabric might take the whole rack- it’s always seemed as though whenever you began a new project that it was rare that you needed to purchase fabric to put together a lovely quilt. In other words, you have a large fabric stash. Take your time, and get it how you want! The payoff will be when you can walk into your room and see all your fabrics, beautifully organized easy for you to look at and find what you’re looking for. I hope that happens soon. And yes, organizing your fabric counts as crafting! Sorry about the cloudy weather I guess the good news is it’s not snow and we don’t have to clean it up. I wasn’t really similar to yours not seeing a whole lot of sunshine.
Ruth. Hope you’re doing well. And you’re busy making hats or whatever project you want to work on.
Ah Yesterday. I started the morning by trimming some of my blocks so that I can start final assembly. It’s a little disappointing that some of the ditzy daisy blocks are just barely meeting the minimum finished size for the Block so I wonder how they will go together. I’m already mulling over in my mind ways to adapt The assembly if I need to to make the layout work.. on a lighter note, perhaps….my granddaughters came over for a few hours of sewing. One is working on a poncho (she got the fabric and all she needs to make the poncho and a tied flannel quilt with her little sister. Considering the amount of time we did not have, we got a fair amount done. I am hoping to see them again and get a little bit more done. The bad part was I left my rotary cutter out- it was tucked away far from little hands, but someone found it and unscrewed the blade assembly. I had gone over with them how NOT to touch it and that the blade is super sharp (went over it with my oldest grandson who brought his whittling project). Well the washer is now missing and I cannot find it. Thankfully i have other rotary cutters and after a fair amount of hunting found Fabric hut - who does sell replacement washers. Hard to believe that no one else sells the washers. I did place the order last night for replacement washers. I am just thankful that no one was hurt- I suspect the curious child was my grandson who was closest to where the rotary was. My granddaughters were more in my sight. So today I will go back to trimming blocks and hope that later on I can start working on final assembly.

Aw Ruth that stinks!!!! Think it’s happened to each of us. Hope you will stop back in later and that the post does not go poof.
I went to get ready to vacuum much earlier and actually found the rotary washer! It blended into my living room rug and was indeed blessed that the light came in through the window just right so that the dark grey metal washer was visible.
Will watch some football and then trim some blocks.
Happy new year if I do not stop in later.

Hello Ruth - I'm sorry you lost your post I want to know what you had to say Hope you have a good evening. Ginny - Sorry to hear that some of the ditzy blocks are not larger, hope you can figure out how to get them together. I'm glad you found the washer. It's so nice that you and your granddaughters can sew together I had to go up to my old house today and check it out and see about the mail. It looks like my mail is now forwarded, so that's a relief. While I was there I cleaned out my microwave and I brought it back to the rental house. The microwave in the rental is nice but it's placed high up and it's not easy for me to put things in and take things out of it. Some family members suggested I just bring my microwave from the old house so that's what I did. I have it sitting on the counter, so it's a much easier height for me to use. I finished putting away all the fabric yesterday and it all fit on one rack. When I see it all together, it really doesn't look like that much fabric - especially compared to some pictures I've seen of other quilter's sewing rooms. I've started filling up the other rack but it's tough trying to figure out what to put on it. I did have to use a few shelfs for office items. I think I'll concentrate on putting things on this rack that I use more often and put my supplies that I don't use as much in the closet. Yes, I'm fortunate to have a nice large closet too! I'd love to put all my office things away but I need to get some of the furniture from the old house to do that. Hopefully I can get an appointment with a moving company this coming week and get things scheduled to be moved. It will be nice when everything is unpacked. I dumped out several bags of quilting things onto a long 6 foot table, so I need to go through that and figure out if it's all worth keeping and if so where it will go. I'm tired tonight, so I'll try to work more on that tomorrow. Hope you have a great New Year's Eve

yes that was last evening that I had to message written and clicked and all and it still didn't show up. I don't even know what I said except for saying that we haven't had snow since a couple days before Christmas Eve. These days we hear about so many storms of all kinds that are very destructive. It's sad for all who lose not only homes but even family members. Ginny, I'm so glad that none of your grandchildren were injured while being curious about your rotary cutter. We all know how dangerous those things are. Even adults sometimes neglect to handle them carefully. It must have been fun though to sew with the children. CJ, I'm surprised that your fabric only took one shelf. I think you need to buy more Our microwave in Indiana is high also. I finally had to buy a step stool to be able to get things in and out of it safely. There is no counter space there so I couldn't take one of our microwaves, unfortunately. Another thing I mentioned in that lost post was that the side to side method is just what some people call making the hat in a flat rectangle in rows and sewing the edges together and gathering the top. When I do them I slip stitch them together instead of sewing because my seams just are not good. I'm still working on that hat but a couple days ago I did get my yarn together for the lambs and the tree skirt so I need to get this hat done Happy New Year

CJ- yes tomorrow is another day…and that will be a good time for you to continue going through everything you have dumped out. It can be overwhelming for sure…and not to have the furniture moved that you might store your office supplies in must be really frustrating. I wonder if the moving company you had contacted sort of shut down for the time between Christmas and New Years, and I hope you hear from them soon. I bet you are at the point where you just want this move to be over with, although it sure does sound as though you are settling in nicely. Hopefully it will start to feel like home soon. Great idea to bring your microwave from the house, and I am glad that it works out better for you. Congrats that all your fabric fits on one rack….which leaves you the other rack to store whatever else on!
Ruth, I kind of thought that was what a hat in the flat was….I made one of them once for DGD#1- you are much more current on terminology than I am. Gotta be honest, the grandchild (and I am reasonably sure which one it was) who picked up my rotary (blade was withdrawn) was an idiot as I had just explained to my DGS NOT to touch it and that there was a great chance of getting hurt if it was improperly handled. I am so glad you were able to post this afternoon… glad you were able to get the yarn out for the lambs and the tree skirt. Do you have sufficient yarn (in the proper colors ) to make another tree skirt? I can imagine it takes a fair amount of yarn, which I know I do not have the right amount of.
Have had football on most of the day…about to turn it off as I really really dislike the team that is winning. Think I will listen to my audio book and trim those quilting blocks.
Happy New Year….and see you tomorrow morning!

Oh another week is over. Tomorrow is a new thread already! Well Ginny, that was the terminology the person that designed the pattern used. Pretty much, everything goes nowdays. People use whatever words come to their minds. It was interesting to hear that your dgs whittles. That was one of the things my #2 grandson in Indiana was doing while we were there visiting. He and his 11 year old sister both were. Dgd didn't have her own knife so, of course, when we got home back here, Grandpa sent her one I didn't watch football until the last quarter of the Bronco game. Then I watched the Vikings/Packer game. I'm not a fan of either team. It will be interesting next Sunday evening to see who wins the Bills/Dolphin game. I just heard and can't believe that the Dolphins lost to the Patriots. I forgot all about football yesterday. Oh I do have plenty of yarn in the two colors which are red and white, to make the tree skirt. I did finish all the rows of the hat and just need to slip stitch the seam and pull the top together so if I get busy and do that I can potentially start the skirt tonight but may read instead. Now my library finally got the cozy mysteries featuring a woman who crochets. The cozy mysteries are something that is not really intense at all so when you want to just have something relaxing they fit the bill. CJ, yes I'm an enabler so again, I think you need to buy more fabric.Of course I have a major yarn hoarding problem so you may not want to take my advice
