susan092907, Wow! on the Connect wars over the meds. We're not going to know how the meds really work until they have been taken for a number of years. There's so much you need to know about weight loss/maintenance to be able to do it well. I still think a lot of it is mental which is why I keep up with Beck.

bbbearsmom, I agree with you about the weight loss medication, but people are going to make their own decisions and it's just sad to me about how WW is handling this, even in terms of how they're monitoring the discussions on Connect. Some of the designated Connect coaches seem to escalate the issues. I'm becoming more and more glad that I've distanced myself more and more from WW. Judy, do you look at Connect at all? I read it a lot, but have never posted there. Winter foods - I've been pretty much eating the same foods in winter as in summer. Except that I keep to traditional seasonal fruits and vegetables even though everything is available year round now. In winter I'm eating apples and oranges but in the summer I eat melons.

susan092907, I never took to Connect. When it first came out, I didn't have a smart phone and by the time I got one I was busy here and on Facebook so didn't need it.

bbbearsmom, It took me quite a while to post on the old WW message boards. I don't like Connect either, but I do read it. I was just coming back here to add to my post about the meds/no meds people. In the interest of fairness, I made it sound too much like the pro-meds people are the problem. But the other side is just as bad - they just have to keep arguing and arguing about why meds are bad and why WW is bad for facilitating them. They've certainly made their opinions known, and instead of just leaving the others alone, they keep going on the meds threads to argue with them and with the coaches.

susan092907, That's too bad they are going after each other. I'm too tired to get involved, plus I don't have answers for everyone. I'm thankful what I have done has been working so far for me.

What makes it harder to maintain? What do you do to make it easier to maintain?

What makes it harder to maintain for me is my husband is somewhat a food pusher and it takes extra effort for me to handle it. What makes it easier is when I stick to tracking, weighing and measuring, and keeping up with my online support groups.

Why it's hard to maintain - I haven't gotten past the feelings that food is pleasurable and that I can't eat as much of it as I want and still have all the advantages of maintaining my weight. What makes it easier to maintain - I keep reminding myself of why I want to maintain at my current weight or less. There are lots of reasons. And I'm practicing focusing my attention away from the pleasure aspects of eating to more of a focus on whether or not I'm hungry and what would be the healthy thing for me to do in terms of when and what I eat.

Read an article this morning in The Telegraph, an UK paper about a woman that started working out and dieting at 57 and now looks fabulous at 60. But she did make financial sacrifices to be able to afford a trainer three times a week, she walks 90 minutes every morning and gets a total of 15,000 to 20,000 steps every day and sticks to her 1500 calorie a day limit. She looks nice and went on and on about the energy she has now, but I just don't have that much ambition.
