This week I got back to tracking and doing some exercises. I also went back to plain non-fat Greek yogurt after months of eating flavored non-fat Greek yogurt. And I've tightened up on my measuring for portion sizes. I am grateful my husband and I are healthy.

Credit for tracking all week, for keeping my hunger/satiation/cravings journal, and for eating mostly healthfully. Credit for exercising as much as I was able to.
NSV that I'm giving myself credit for - I wore a dress to a wedding last night that I bought in 1998 for a special occasion event and it still fits. I bought it when I'd gotten to my goal weight for the second time - since then I gained and lost again a couple of times more, and I'm now on my 4th and so far last time at losing to goal weight. The dress is a timeless "little black dress" style, and has been infrequently worn, and since I really don't like to shop, I'm so happy that I found the perfect solution for what to wear to this wedding right in my closet.

I was super thin growing up but started to gain weight when I married into a family of eaters in my late 20's. I picked up their habits, as I got to 30, I got a sit-down job and was less active and put on weight. I didn't do anything about it. I don't think I knew what to do and was clueless even though those around me were watching their weight and exercising. This is the third time I've lost weight on WW and the first time maintaining. I've maintained for 16 years but am struggling now. I'm doing baby steps to get back on plan and lose some weight.

I was a just right weight growing up. When I went away to college I found myself in a group of friends who loved to eat, snack, get take out, etc and I joined right in. By the end of my freshman year, I gained what felt like a huge amount of weight. I started WW then - June 1971. Since then, I've been on and off WW repeatedly, and I've lost weight and gained weight repeatedly. I first got to goal weight and Lifetime WW membership in 1990, but I didn't learn how to maintain. I continued the on and off pattern, joining and leaving, gaining and losing, until this last time, and I reached my goal weight in December 2010 for the 4th, and so far last time. I've been more or less maintaining since then.

susan092907, It took me losing my weight with WW three times before I was able to maintain any length of time. This time I built a support network.

This week I will continue to track after not tracking from Christmas through New Years. I will continue to do countertop pushups and am adding sumo squats. I've gone back to plain non-fat Greek yogurt from flavored non-fat Greek yogurt, and more closely measuring my portions. My me-time is my computer, reading, and exercise time. We also have an online concert by the Berlin Philharmonic on Saturday.

It took me losing my weight with WW three times before I was able to maintain any length of time. This time I built a support network. That's great that you figured out what helped, Judy. For me, the WW meetings were my support system - I was never online with WW, even when it became available, until 2009, the same year I rejoined this last time. The meetings helped me so much with losing weight but not so much with maintaining. And now these online boards have become my support network. So maybe that has made a difference. Also, I think that I finally have the time and energy to work at weight management, that I didn't have before. And in addition, I really believe that all the prior times were "practices", and then I finally "got it".

My plan is to continue to eat per hunger/satiation and to eat healthfully. I'll continue my journalling of mindset issues and related eating patterns. I'll exercise as much as I'm able to. bbbearsmom, Judy great work getting back to tracking, and making some changes in what you're eating, and getting some strength exercise done.

Wednesday, 01/10 Because of the new diet drugs the WW CEO has said that WW was wrong all these years about how to lose weight. Do you think that WW has been wrong all these years?

I do not think WW has been wrong all these years. That's because as long as I did the work it worked for me. I had to learn a lot to finally be able to maintain my goal weight. Just because it didn't work for everyone doesn't mean it doesn't work. The meds are just another way to lose weight.

What a terrible thing for her to say. It's one thing to say that those old ways don't work for some people and they need help from medication, but it's totally different to say WW was wrong all those years. It worked for so many people, and still does. That's just hurtful.
The meds/no meds wars are still raging on Connect. There's a lot of lashing out on both sides. The meds people are just as misunderstanding as the no meds people, in my opinion. I've seen meds people blaming "old" people for not understanding science in terms of why some people need meds. I've also seen them saying that if WW didn't keep up to date with science we'd still be eating liver in order to lose weight, and then some pro no meds people have to explain that the liver wasn't to lose weight but for nutrition reasons, to insure adequate iron intake. The CEO certainly hasn't helped to ease the war.
