CJ, that's a beautiful quilt with both the colors and the placement of the blocks. It will be interesting to see the months in the temperature quilt that have the 31st temp on a tree.
Ginny, I guess the roads were good in your area since you and Jane were able to get to the quilt stores. I'm glad to hear you found some fabric you like. Now all you have to do is finish the present quilt, and all the other things on your list and then work on the temperature quilt. One thing I noticed about your weather is that it doesn't usually get super cold at night like subzero in the minus teens. I do see you're forcasted to receive another 5 inches of snow on Tuesday so hopefully you won't have to go out that day and it also would be nice if your son didn't have to work that day.
They were talking on tv about the Holiday weekend. Immediately I thought..holiday, holidays are over then finally realized it was MLK day.

The area we travelled into yesterday for the first quilt shop had suffered from severe flooding. The woman at the shop did tell us that only a day earlier the main roadway there was impassable. We saw many homes that were completely surrounded in water and along the highway, (a major highway) the roadside was totally flooded. I texted my sister in law (who used to live there) and she did tell me that flooding is “normal” for that general region. Honestly my car GPS took us off of the main road within a short distance of the store and the exit ramp (which split) was flooded out on one side. I went the other direction and just had to snake through on some side streets to get to the quilt shop. True my area usually does not get bitter cold nights, although there is normally one week where we get super cold temps. But minus 20 degrees is indeed a rarity.
Yeah, got a 3 day weekend….believe me I am looking forward to having an extra day off.

Well I'm definitely glad that you didn't have flooding in your area and I sure feel bad for all those that had damage to their homes and may even have had lives in jeopardy due to the flooding. GPS is one of the things I don't have in my car which is fine with me because I still don't know how to work many of the functions that are available in it I just recently figured out how to make the dash lights brighter after owning this vehicle for 5 years now (that sounds impossible). Since I never drive at night I never needed to do that. Yes it's really cold here but will get even colder. "They" say that tomorrow morning at 8am it will be the coldest with actual temp -31 and "feels like" -46.All day tomorrow will be below zero. this will go on for 4 days. This is why I really dislike winter. I'll be back later to whine some more...gotta keep a sense of humor. In the meantime I'm watching one of my favorite programs on tv and crocheting

Hello Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get out to the quilt shops, too bad to hear about all the flooding issues. I hope you can start making your Temperature quilt soon. It's a nice pattern that we can work on once or several times a month, or daily if we want. I'm trying to keep up with the daily high temperature half square triangles since I have my cottage roof already made. I look forward to seeing yours. Hope you enjoy your three day weekend Ruth - I sure hope that you and your DH can stay warm and safe in your house and that the temperatures will rise after these cold days. I rarely drive at night like you, when I did on Christmas Eve I was surprised to see how the lights on my dashboard looked I don't have GPS either. I finished the Moda Blockheads block last evening, so now I just have the two basket blocks to finish. I'm not feeling much like sewing today, but maybe that will change later. I have to concentrate when making these basket blocks since they use a lot of bi-sected squares. I went out this morning to run some errands. It's so nice to have everything close now that I'm at this new place. It was really tiring doing all the driving from where I used to live to where I shopped and ran errands. Take care and have a good weekend!

Ruth, ,one of the great joys of winter is being able to just stay in and craft!!! Glad you and Dh are nice and warm…and that you still have your power. Yes, keep your sense of humor…and keep on crocheting!! ‘ CJ- so glad to hear that your errands are easier for you to run in your new home!! With errands taking less time, that leaves more time for ….well quilting. The cow is totally adorable, and honestly something I can see Ruth making. So very cute!!
I am not being very productive today. My cold is a bit worse (mind you not horrible) and I am just not super productive. I did get some housework done, and brought some items in from outside as we are supposed to have heavy rain and wind again tonight. Here we go again. I did not sleep well last nite…and am looking forward to, I hope a good night of sleep.

I tried twice to send my message about the cow but once it just erased itself and next time it said no internet but I was connected to the internet and able to do everything else. That cow is really cute. It's a pattern from Stephanie on Grace and Yarn who makes wonderful stuffy patterns. When I make them from other sites mine always come out way larger. I also have my own guidlines which say that I don't do any that require more than 7 parts to be sewed on. I do like the addition of flowers this person Colette put on hers but to much work for me so if I want mine to look "feminine" I'll put on a little bow.
Ginny, I'm sorry your cold is worse and also that your weather doesn't sound good either.I hope you feel better by the time you have to go back to work.Sometimes you just have to sit and do nothing so don't worry about sewing or housework...as you say, it will always be waiting.
CJ, I'm really glad that the places you need to go for errands are now much closer. and thanks for the link to that cow. I also looked at some of her other crochet items which are also nice

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today and staying safe from the cold and other bad weather It started in the 50s here today, but now it's dropping into the 40s and the week ahead is supposed to be colder - but not nearly as bad as much of the rest of the country. Ruth - I'm glad you like the cow, I thought it was so cute. I know you are experienced enough to put your own twist on a crochet project like that. Hope you and your DH are O.K. and staying warm. Ginny - Hope you are starting to feel better and that you didn't have any problems from the rain. I went up to my house today to get a things ready for the furniture move that will happen later this coming week. I'm hoping that goes off without any problems. It will be good to get the furniture out of the house so I can evaluate what is left there. I think I have most of the things I want out of there and probably the rest is mostly junk, but some of it I might be able to donate. I brought back the last of my quilting things today, a hoop stand for hand quilting. I found that at a quilt show in the guild's sale area for a great price, but I found that I didn't really like to quilt on a hoop like this. But maybe I'll try it out again this winter and see if I like it more. I haven't done any quilting since I've been busy doing things around both houses and also just not feeling like sewing. Hopefully I'll get those two blocks made over the next few days. I'd sure like to get the quilt tops done for at least three of the quilt alongs that ended in December. I figure the Moda blocks can wait for a bit if they have to. Hope you get to do some crafting. Take care

Doing ok here….and I did feel a bit crummy this am but am not so bad now. DD and the little ones were here for a bit.
Actually I came here to check that both of you are doing ok- with all the crazy weather we have had. CJ and Ruth, good to hear that you are safe and sound. I have a friend in Michigan who lost her power because of the high winds. I will stop back in later to check in officially.

CJ I'm glad that you have a time now for when your furniture will be moved to your new home. I know it will be a relief to you when the house is taken care of and sold.Sad but a relief also
Ginny I hope that cold is gone soon. Hopefully your dd and grandchildren don't get it.
We, or I should say our pipes, survived the night so hopefully they will survive the next three nights we'll have a little time off till next time. Right now it's warmed up and "only" minus 8.It got down to -31 according to the weather sites we checked
I did get some crocheting done in between pipe checks

CJ- congrats on getting the rest of your quilting supplies and that quilting frame in the new house. Take your time trying to figure it all out- what you will use and what needs to be donated. I am so very glad that you have arranged for a moving company to relocate the final pieces of furniture. I figure you have missed these items and having them in the new location will make life much easier
Ruth - so glad to hear that you have power and are staying warm! How often is it necessary for you to check that your pipes have not frozen?
Typical cold, I am running a bit low on energy. I did press the sections and sashing that needs to be sewn- and will sew it tomorrow. It’s still so very windy here. A cold winter day

Gee- hope everyone is safe and sound and comfortable!
CJ- I meant to ask you if the original moving company is the one who will Be helping you at the end of the week?
Ruth - how is the Christmas tree skirt coming along?
I left church a bit early as I felt a coughing fit coming on and had not taken any cold medication. I did listen to the end of the sermon via the live stream. After a lot of fuss- I made one last attempt to remove the broken soap dispenser at my sink and was convinced I would have to ask DS to do that for me. Well- one last attempt and I got it! The old dispenser had pretty much rotted out so once I broke the rust it fell out! I need DS for about 5 minutes as it’s impossible for me to reach above and below the sink at the same time . But I am happy that I was able to get the old pump out by myself.
I did get most of the quilt top assembled. The football games are on now and well football season is almost over with… no babysitting tomorrow so I can see then.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad to hear that your pipes have been alright so far, and hope that continues until it gets warmer. I hope you are staying warm in your house. I'm glad you've had time for crocheting too. Yes, I will be sad to sell my home but I know the time was right. I couldn't live there much longer without spending a lot of money (that I don't have) to get things fixed. It has helped me to bring so many things from the house to the rental. Yesterday I brought bath mats from one of the bathrooms, and even though it seems like a small thing, it felt good to me to see them in the new bathroom Ginny - Hope the cold is continuing to get better. Congratulations on getting the soap dispenser out and I hope your DS can help you put in the new one. I know you are pretty handy with home repairs, and that sure does help when you have a house. Hope you can get the rest of the quilt top finished. Fortunately there isn't much left in the house to go through and I'm anxious to get it out of there so I can get some companies in to look at the house and get some offers for selling it. I don't want to have to keep driving up and down the road, as well as paying double bills, for more than a few months if I can. It's a new moving company that I hired and they have been very responsive with lots of detailed information and emails and texts. It's a national company that started locally, so hopefully they will do a good job. I'm just hoping we don't get much snow here this week, since I'll have to make sure to clear the steps and walks before the moving company comes. But it looks like any snow will be here from Monday-Tuesday and that will give me several days after for it to melt. I did a bit more rearranging in my sewing/office room today and I'm pretty happy with all the quilting supplies placement. Once I get the furniture in here for the office, I'll be able to put those things away and it will really help me with my paperwork and computer work to have a bit more storage a place to lay my paperwork which I have on top of a cardboard box right now . I sewed together the second row of temperatures for that quilt, so now I'll wait until I have 6 more days of temps to sew the next row. I have all the pieces laid out for one of the basket blocks I'm just trying to motivate myself to sew it together. There are 23 pieces in this block! And when I get that one done, I have another one to make in the different fabric. One thing I really want to try to stop doing in the future is making multiple blocks for the same project. It's great to use the extra fabric, but I have to push myself to make more than one of the same block and it's not worth the anxiety to me. Take care

CJ - it makes total sense that the familiar bath mats make the rental house feel so much more like home. What a process you have been through! I can imagine by the end of the week when you have the final furniture items moved in that it will feel even more like home. I think this was a good move for you, but leaving behind so many memories in the family home has to be so challenging. But I doubt your parents would want you struggling to keep up and repair the house. I pray that each day gets easier for you. Timing is good for getting the house ready for sale as spring real estate market is not that far off.
Just wondering…. Some of the fabrics I picked up for the houses of the temperature quilt are batiks. I think they should work, as opposed to solids. What is your opinion? I will need to purchase fabric for the trees and roofs. Those I figure will be solids.
Ruth - hope you are staying warm and safe and that you are getting some crocheting time in!

Ginny, yea, I'm so glad you got the soap dispenser off and ready to install the new one.Sorry you had to leave church early due to coughing. And it's great that you got the quilt top sewed together
CJ, yes sometimes it's the little things that help in stressful situations.I'm glad you were able to get your yarn room/office a little more user friendly and, as you said once the office furniture is there you can do even more to bring it to something you will really like.
The first night when it was the coldest I checked to make sure water was coming through the pipes ok about every hour. Last night it was cold again but not as cold and no wind so less checking was needed. I have six sections left to be done on the tree skirt so that will be easy to get completed today. Tomorrow I'll work on weaving in end and maybe the edging. Since two of the Indy grands requested a couple things made for them I asked dgs #4 to ask his little brother if he wanted me to make something for him. I was planning on making him something anyway but I thought he'd be happier if he was asked what he wanted. He's 5 and doesn't use email yet so his brother told me today that the little brother would like a puppy so I've been looking up puppy patterns and videos today.Since Monday is already the middle of the month (well tomorrow)and dh wants to go to the bank before the end of the month and the post office is right there I'd better get busy and try to get all these things done so I can mail them while we're out.
I was planning on watching football while crocheting today but turned on tv and they were showing the afl championship game from last year! I guess they had to fill the spot where the Bill's game was going to be until they changed it to tomorrow.
