Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, playing a musical instrument, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store ,researching a new quilt shop, attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. And one of us is never going to buy a fat quarter bundle again! We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

I got out of sequence this morning and almost forgot to start us off for the week! But I did remember just a short while ago….glad I checked in.
CJ- sounds like a good day for you, getting to Joanns for some pretty fabric and any other supplies you might need. I bet it was a big relief that the house was ok. Are you supposed to get a lot of rain in a day or so? (My area is). Sounds so pretty that you are going to make a mantel scarf of sorts- gee do you have a fireplace in your home? How nice. Indeed it’s a shame, that the fabrics were too similar for the split rail table toppers. Have you changed a fabric or two to try for another topper? And I am annoyed with you……ok just kidding…..that temperature quilt is seriously gorgeous. I have always wanted to make a house quilt and a temperature quilt. That is such a cute pattern!!!! I have to, of course, finish the baby quilt. And then just add that to the list of quilts I want to make. Help me, I think I am drowning in quilts I want to make. Looking forward to hearing that you have figured out the mantle piece and gotten set up with some personal items on the mantel to personalize your space.
Ruth- well you probably watched the game…I was asleep. Glad to hear that the Bills won. My DSIL who is a BIG Bills fan said they played awfully, and what I heard on the news this am was that it was the defense at the end that saved the game. Note to CJ- all this football chatter will end in a few short weeks. The playoffs start next weekend.
Gonna send that gorgeous pattern CJ posted to Jane. Think we have plans to go to 2 new fabric shops on Thursday.

Hello Ginny - Hope the snow hasn't been a problem for you and the roads have been cleared. The fireplace in the rental is an electric one, but it doesn't work I have a fake fireplace at my old house too, with a pretty larger wood mantel. I'll miss that. I thought that temperature/house combination quilt pattern was really cute too, I'm glad I saw it. Hope you and Jane enjoy shopping this week. Ruth - Hope you have made progress on the Christmas Tree Skirt. Will you send it to your DGS when it's done? I hope so since I'd love to hear what he thinks of it. It's a cool day here, but sunny. I went out earlier to take care of some errands and now I can stay home tomorrow when it's supposed to rain and be windy. I don't feel like working on the blue table runner and mantel piece, but I might pull out the fabrics for the temperature/house quilt and make a few parts of that. Take care

Another new week is here. I hope you both have a great one. H Yes I love the look of that house quilt also. I, personally, never have had the desire to make a temperature blanket because I know I would never keep up with it. And Ginny, yes you definitely need to join CJ and I in being drowned in planned or desired projects. Have a good time out with Jane at the new quilt shops. This new project is a perfect excuse to buy more fabric.
CJ, I've always wanted to have a mantel. In y house there really is no wall space to put one. Instead I have the wood stove which, of course has no mantal.
I didn't get any crocheting done at all yesterday but am hoping to be able to crochet all evening. I did get a bunch of things done today so crocheting will be a nice rest after all that. I have about a third of the Christmas tree skirt done and next will be the little lambs. I never did find the pattern that dgd sent a picture of but we both found another (the same) lamb pattern. I also want to make some things for the other children and I'm thinking bookmarks for the other girls and/or keychains they can use either for keys or for decorations on backpacks or purses.

CJ- you know they do sell those electric fireplaces that are free standing..If you were so inclined you could pick one up and put it in your bedroom! I always thought it would be nice to have a fireplace in a bedroom, but did not want the headaches that a house built in 1890 would bring (when homes were built with a fireplace in each room). Guess I am just trying to find ways you can help make your new home, “home”. For the temperature quilt, guess you already have the fabrics you will need for each temperature.Sounds like a really fun project and I hope you enjoy making it. Will you be using the suggested fabric colors for the quilt?
The snow has not been too much of a headache..roads were ok for the most part and just a little black ice. Think the big problem will be with the heavy rain and wind.
Ruth, how is that Christmas tree skirt coming along? Did you finish the afghan you were making for Dh?

CJ and Ruth, hope you are comfortable and cozy and slept well!!

Hello - Hope you are both having a good day and the weather isn't bad. It's rainy and windy here. Ginny - I hope you don't get the cold and that you were able to do some embroidery today. I have a family member that has one of those fireplaces. They are nice, but I don't want any more furniture I have to drag around with me in the future. Ruth - I'm glad to hear your projects are coming along, hope you were able to work on them today. I did some more piecing for the Temperature quilt. I'm using the same fabrics as I did for the other quilt, so I won't be breaking down my temperatures as much as they are in the pattern. I try to keep my temperatures in ranges of 10 degrees except for the lowest and the highest. The pattern is easy and I've already gone ahead and made the roofs for the next few months. I also made a bunch of the half square triangles for temperatures from 0-60 degrees, just need to trim them - I did the 8 at a time method. Here's my January house so far, the blue are temperatures in the 40s and the green are temperatures in the 50s. The roof colors are more of a brown/beige than they look in the picture: I guess I'll be working on the Moda Blockheads block the next few days after it comes out tomorrow. Take care

I just found out that on Sunday the high temp here will be minus 3. Today the wind is blasting like you would see on the news when a hurricane is happening. Dh and I were going to go to the mailbox to pick up a package but as soon as we opened the door we changed our plan. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. We did get some snow but not a lot. Maybe 3 inches.
Ginny, hopefully you will be able to get to some embroidery. Yes a lot of views show every day. I wonder what brings people to look but not post anything.
CJ, I hope things are going well today for you.
I have the tree skirt half done as far as rows go then there will be some edging to do and at least a whole day of weaving in ends.

CJ, I see we were typing at the same time. It sounds like you are back in quilting mode. I'm glad you have time now to do that and whatever other things you enjoy
Ginny, I hope you don't end up with that cold. And I truly hope and pray that neither you nor CJ get that bad weather I just saw predicted on the national news.

Good morning!!
Ruth, wow you are making great progress on the Christmas tree skirt- which will certainly be ready for next Christmas or in 15 years when DGS will be able to put his own tree up. 😂. I do not blame you for not going to the mail box. Yikes, acccorging to my phone you are supposed to be minus 9 degrees next Saturday!! That is cold. I know you and Dh do a great job of preparing for crummy weather…hope you can get a grocery order delivered in preparation (if you need anything) so that you can stay home. Of course you will need plenty of yarn.😉
CJ- gosh that house block is turning out adorable!! Like. You did what I was anticipating doing, just changing colors based upon a larger window of temperatures. Think I am going to take out the fabrics I plan on using and seeing how many different fabrics I have and which ones I want to use. I think yours looks adorable and am looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I do not blame you for not wanting another piece of furniture to move (a portable fireplace). I just thought that maybe something like that might be nice for you, to make the new house feel more like home. Have you gotten anywhere with putting your mantle together?
Well, it rained last night and the wind sure did howl. Nasty night. I am very very thankful that my yard appears to be ok and that I only got a tiny amount of water in the machine room. Just heard from DD#2 that she got some water in her home…oh I feel awful for her, knowing what that feels like. Yes, I have a cold, but have not much to do today, so I will stay home and rest and sew.

Hello Ginny - I'm sorry you do have a cold, hope you can rest today and feel better soon. I'm glad you didn't get any big problem from all the rain, sorry your DD#2 has to deal with that - I know how it feels too. I haven't finished the mantel piece, I just laid the fabric up on the mantel since I was feeling lazy Ruth - I hope you and your DH will be alright during the extreme cold weather you're going to get. Hopefully you'll be able to stay home and keep warm. I went to my house this morning to make sure there were no problems from the rain and wind yesterday and thankfully there weren't. I have a website that I'm checking for what the daily high temperature was for the location I'm using for my Temperature quilt. I figured yesterday I was safe saying it was only in the 50s, so I went ahead and sewed that last green triangle on. Well, today I check the website and it says it got up to 60 yesterday! Now I have to rip that seam out and sew on a different color HST The new weekly Moda Blockheads block came out today, and it's a pretty block. I need to figure out my colors for this one and hope I'll get it done in the next few days. modafabrics.com/inspiration-resources/bh5-group-2-block-2-lisa-bongeanI also took a closer look at this year's BOM from A Quilting Life and I really love the star frames around her blocks. I may have to see if I have some fabric I can use for this quilt along, even though I said I couldn't do it She has a 16 inch and a 8 inch block version, so I could probably do the 8 inch ones with some of the fabric I already have. Hope you get to do some crafting today. Take care

CJ, that really is a pretty block. Yes you have to make that one. So on the temperature quilt are you putting a block on it for every day? the block for that one is pretty too. I love the little houses. I'm glad to hear that all was well at your other home.Have you been able to set up a day for the movers yet?
Ginny, I'm glad you just got a little bit of rain leaking into your home and hopefully sometime you will be able to find someone to fix wherever that water came in.Is your son handy in doing little repairs or investigating what caused the leak? I know that you are very good at doing some repairs too but if you try something like fixing this leak please be careful.I'm sorry to hear you do have a cold but it's nice that you don't have to go out and that you can stay home and rest. And I'm really sorry to hear your dd has a leak in her new house. Home ownership really is a huge pain
Yes three nights in a row we will have subzero temps including Friday night when they say it will be minus 20. Hopefully there won't be much wind. The daytime temp has been adjusted to now be -1 instead of -4. Our wind did calm some and is now more like a strong wind instead of being like it was yesterday and I was able to go to the mailbox. I did get quite a bit more done of the tree skirt yesterday and could probably get all of it finished today except for the weaving of ends
DH did put in a food order and the confirmation email had a section that said "some things you might like" and one of those was a plain loaf of Sara Lee bread which was listed as $12 for one loaf!!! Of course that bread is not more than about $3. (we buy the cheap great value bread)They also had some candies that were listed as a hugely ridiculous price too. Candy is a crazy price anyway without Walmart mentioning erroneous prices!
I was tempted to join a CAL for this year but I realized I'd probably never get it done. It was a Christmas blanket. I had attempted to do a Christmas one a couple years ago and it's still not done. I am going to do a different one which is made with leftover yarns of any kind of all which I have plenty of. Both of these are year long ones so I'll have plenty of time.

well I had a little setback with my Christmas tree skirt.I finished the first skein of white yarn and added another, finished the red and added another. well about 9 rows or more I finally noticed that the white was completely different. I still had the label and yes, the old skein was the RHSS soft white and the one I added was just white. I should just have donated all my soft white because it just plain looks like dingy white yarn and there is a huge difference between soft white and plain white. Plain white is about 10,000 times better than soft. I hope I don't have too many of these soft whites left. I really, really dislike them. I have 24 inches done before I added the soft and now I am going to just start over with the red and new plain white. I might in some future time finish the in progress one and donate it somewhere. I know I have enough soft white left to do that.I only had 12 more inches to go

Hello - Hope you are both having a good day and the weather isn't too bad. It's in the 50s and sunny here. Ruth - That's a bummer that you mixed those white yarns in the tree skirt and had to start over. I've seen some white yarns that look dingy, so I know what you mean. Fabric is like that too. I hope you were able to get your groceries so you can stay inside during the coming cold weather The temperature quilt does have a half square triangle for each day of the month in each of the houses/cottages, except for the months with 31 days. For those months the last day of the month temperature is shown in the top of the tree. I thought that was clever of the pattern designer. Ginny - I hope you are feeling better and resting I finished cutting the fabrics for three blocks that I was behind on my December quilt alongs, and the fabric for this week's Moda Blockheads. This morning I made the last block of the Sew With Me quilt along and I'm happy with how my 12 blocks came out. This quilter used some different techniques for piecing that I have to admit were not my favorite. They were a bit more complicated than what I normally like, but it was still fun to do the quilt along. Now I just have to figure out my layout to put the quilt top together - it will be more of a wall hanging because these blocks are small - 6.5 inches. Here are all my blocks: I hope to get to the Moda Blockheads block next and then I'll do the last two of the basket blocks. Hope you get to do some crafting today too. Take care

CJ- Nice job getting those Sew with me quilt along blocks….many of the blocks really have a lot of movement to them, for a 3 dimensional look! Have fun with the layout, which I figure should not matter all that much. Most of the blocks have a good mix of lights and darks, so it should not matter which block you put where. Of course, do what pleases your eye.
Ruth, that absolutely stinks about the 2 different colors of white. Guess it makes for an interesting story for DGS when the tree skirt for him is completed. I do not know if I would be able to go back to the soft white tree skirt after completing another whole tree skirt. So frustrating. Equally frustrating is Walmart offering a $12 loaf of bread as a good add on to your order. ($12 for a loaf of bread?!?). Glad you and Dh are using that service to order your food. I can see from my local grocery stores that there are a ton of store “shoppers” and many are paying to have their groceries shopped for. Sure beats crowded stores, fighting to find a parking spot etc….my orders are small these days, so it does not make much sense for me. But I know with my 2 DD’s and their growing families, they are taking advantage of online ordering.
I did get to 2 quilt shops with Jane today. There was a fair amount of driving, neither shop was close by. I did pick up some fat quarters from both shops, and think I have most of the fabrics I need now for that temperature quilt. I will check out tomorrow what I have and what I have on hand. Guess I will have to get some white fabric for the background and will most likely use the gift card Ds gave me for Joanns for that. I am really looking forward to a 3 day weekend!! Got a somewhat quiet day planned for tomorrow and hope to get some machine time in.
