Happy Monday! A quick check of the weather and it sure looks like we are all facing winter…..
Ruth, glad to hear that you are doing ok keeping your pipes from freezing. I remember having to stay up most of the night (on and off) to feed the wood burner because we had an issue with frozen pipes during a particularly nasty cold snap. I am glad to hear that you are in for somewhat warmer temps. I wonder if the woman who posted the adorable cow crochet instructions also has puppy directions?
CJ- looks like your general area is getting snow today? ( a news broadcast from the capital showed snow falling)I hope that snow removal is something done for you now, so you do not have to be concerned with it.
Just got a weather update for my area, and it appears as though I am getting some snow tonight into tomorrow, along with some ice. I wonder if there will be enough to close schools, which would not break my heart.

Hello We are getting some snow showers today and more snow overnight but I don't think it will be that much. I just want it to be melted and gone by the end of the week so I don't have to worry about the movers getting up and down the outside steps. Ginny - I hope you are starting to feel better. Hope you don't get too much snow or if so they close the schools. I think batiks would work fine for the Temperature quilt. I only used the solids because when I made the first Temperature quilt I had a fat quarter group of those solids that worked perfectly for it. Then I bought some extra fat quarters since I was afraid I'd be short - so then I have too much fabric and wanted to use some for another quilt So making this new quilt is working out well. Ruth - I hope your pipes are still doing alright and your house is warm enough for you. How is the Christmas Tree Skirt coming along? This morning I moved some things around to make sure the movers will have a clear path to bring in furniture. I still have a few things to do with that but I'll wait until later this week. I have a 27 page pamphlet to read through about the move and I'm going to have to make some notes for things I'll have to do on the day of the move. It's tough doing all these things by myself sometimes, especially since I get more confused easily now that I'm getting older. But I'm sure it will all work out alright. I still hope I can get those two basket blocks made today, I really want them off my mind. Wish me luck Take care and have a good day!

CJ, I was hoping you wouldn't get snow so you didn't have to clear it for the movers. I hope what you got all melts and stays melted. That's an awfully large pamphlet at 27 pages telling you what you have to do regarding the moving! I, too, hope you can get those last two basket blocks done today. They seem to be on your mind and it would be good to be able to not have to think about them
Ginny, well opposite of what I said to CJ, I hope you get enough snow that they close things down tomorrow. You'd have another day's rest.
We were very fortunate these last few days that although it was seriously cold we didn't have wind. Now today it will get only down to -12 but the wind has started up making it a bigger danger for pipes. Starting this weekend we will have several days of 40 degrees.
I did get all the rows done on the tree skirt. Now for the weaving in of all those ends and I'll be done with it and can get busy on the other things I want to finish before mailing them.I don't know if the woman on the link that CJ shared has a pattern for a puppy but the site she got the pattern she used does have a puppy pattern so I'll probably use that one. I received some pictures today and saw that same dgs playing with the snake I made for him last year.

You bet I want a snow day tomorrow~~
CJ- try not to over stress yourself over the move… believe me I know how overwhelming it can all seem especially when you are handling things pretty much by yourself. If necessary call the moving company. This is their profession and if this is a national company I am sure they are very used to folks asking questions! Were you able to get your basket blocks done?
Ruth, hope you and Dh are staying warm!!! How sweet that you got pics of DGS playing with last years snake….an inspiration to make that puppy for him. Congrats on pretty much finishing the tree skirt. Weaving in ends is not the most fun, but I hope it goes quickly.
Got all the quilt top assembled, now have to trim it and cut the border pieces. Perhaps tomorrow, if there is a snow day.

Good afternoon Friends. Well it's probably evening where you are. Today is much warmer ...up to 20 degrees but the wind is bad. Not quite as bad as it was the day last week when we tried to go to the mailbox.
CJ, It will soon be over. Look forward to next week when you have your furniture back. Of course then there's the selling of the house so hopefully that will g well and also be over soon. I just saw an ad on tv of a company that will buy houses. I'd never seen one advertising before.
Ginny, did you get the snow day? I hope your cold is gone.
I didn't feel like weaving in ends yesterday so I guess I'd better get going on that today.I did make some bookmarks for the girls. I had planned on doing that so I can check that off my list.
I'll probably be back later

Good morning!!
Ruth, as I am keeping track of my temperature (gonna make that temperature quilt!) its interesting…your day time high of 20 degrees is where mine will be today. For you it’s “warm”, for me it’s cold. Hope that the wind has died down for you, so that if you want to go check the mail it’s easier to do so. Oh I know it’s all relative. I have another week of cold temps like this and the snow should melt next week. I bet that bookmarks are nice projects for you to work on, small, pretty and not too involved. Sometimes an easier and smaller to complete project is a welcome change, especially after making a large project like the tree skirt.
CJ- have you been able to make it through what you wanted to read from the moving company? Are they moving your furniture this week? As Ruth, said, it will soon be over with and you can focus on getting the house set up exactly as you want, and then put your attention on how you will sell the house. I do hope that if you wanted help with that, that your DB would assist. (My sister was useless in helping…it’s a daunting task, I know). Were you able to get the basket blocks made?
Yes a snow day yesterday and today is a delayed opening because the roads are icy. I was looking forward to more quilting time…but DD called me last nite - she needs me to watch DGS(her other baby sitter is sick). So the little fellow is coming here in about an hour. I hope to get the border cut for the quilt (in about 10 minutes) so at the very least I can feel like I accomplished something. The quilt top is trimmed…ready for the border.
Stay warm….wishing each of you a great day.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad your weather is warmer. Hope you are enjoying making the bookmarks. I'm glad there are a lot of those companies that buy houses, since that is how I want to sell mine. I don't plan to go through a real estate agent. Ginny - Hope you enjoy watching your DGS today. Hope you were able to get the border cut for your quilt. It's cold here today and we're supposed to get more snow on Friday, but I'm hoping it's not too much. The next few days will be very busy for me until the move is done (hopefully it won't get postponed due to the snow). I did finish reading through the pamphlet and I'm going to make up some checklists today so I know what needs to be done over the next few days. I did get the basket blocks made and I'm glad to have all the blocks from all my 2023 quilt alongs done now. I may try to work on the table runner I'm doing for one of them, but otherwise I have to put all my quilting supplies and tables away to be ready for the movers to come in. I hope I can get back to some quilting by the end of the month. Take care and have a good day!

I'm sorry it's so cold in both your areas. I hope you don't get much snow, CJ, or that yo will get none at all. Ginny, yes cold is cold no matter that it isn't below zero.20 degrees is still cold as you said.
CJ, It's a great accomplishment that you were able to finish all of the 2023 QAL's considering all the work you were faced with with this move.I hope all goes well with the moving.Indeed, it will be a busy week for you again.
Ginny, your daughters are so fortunate to have you near for when these situaltions arise where their babsysitter for the day is sick. I hope you get time to work on the border of your quilt top
The Christmas tree skirt is completely done. I even started one of the little lambs last evening. I'm going to get the yarn together for the puppy.I, too, want to finish by the end of the month all these things for the dgc then get back to making dh's blanket. He will get a blanket and I'll have used up a lot of that particular yarn. Then I'm going to make a list of all the things I would like to make or complete and start working on that.

Ruth, wonderful that the Christmas tree skirt is totally done and all the ends are woven in. (Not my favorite job!). Glad you were able to change projects to starting on the little lambs- what color are you using for the body and how many little lambs do you plan on making? Thankfully the puppy can be different colors….as puppies are so many different colors. Any idea what color you will make for DGS? Think finishing Dh’s blanket will be great when you get around to it- a lovely gift for him and a lot of yarn used up. I can imagine the prospect of making a list of crochet projects to work on for the rest of the year would be interesting and fun. Nice to have an actual list…and then check off those items as you complete them!!! Stay warm…..
CJ- think it’s a great idea that you are going to “sell” your house to one of those companies. Selling my mom’s house was one pain in the neck and I really hated having to worry about it durning every storm or severe weather situation. I lost a LOT of sleep over that. Today’s buyers tend to be picky also. I took care of a lot of stuff in her house (which was immaculate for showing). Dh and I painted all the rooms, honestly the place looked great. What i refused to do what renovate the kitchen - which had been updated 30 years ago but todays buyer wants high end finishes and expensive appliances. I was unsure if I invested say $30000 in her house if it would pay for itself (I lost a lot of prospective buyers who would only look at the house if it had an updated kitchen) Life would have been much simpler if I had gone to one of those who buy houses…and I am happy for you that you are choosing that route. Sounds like one more week of turmoil for you….and then you will be able to really get comfortable and organized where you live now. Bet you are looking forward to a time when you can just wake up and quilt. That the movers gave you that pamphlet and suggest checklists sure sounds as though they are professional and will do a great job.
I did get the borders cut for DGD’s quilt….and I hope I can get them sewn on today. Not sure if I will quilt this myself or not. Guess I will price it out at Missouri…..see how expensive it is. They did such a great job on DGS’s baby quilt.

Hello Ruth - I bet the Christmas tree skirt is really pretty Hope you enjoy making the puppy and that you can get your DH's blanket finished. Ginny - Hope you are able to get the border's sewn on your DGD's quilt. Sorry you had to go through all that with your mother's house. I think you made the correct choice not to spend that money to update the kitchen. It would cost me too much to fix up my house, so it's better to sell it "as is" and let someone come in and do all the updating it needs. I went to the house today and there was ice and snow on one of my steps and sidewalks from the last snow. I cleared what I could and then put out salt and after an hour or so it had pretty much melted what was on the steps and sidewalk. I sure wish it wasn't going snow tomorrow, but I can't control that I'll be at the house again tomorrow, clearing the snow as often as I can. It sounds like it might end by mid-afternoon, and I'm hoping it does so I can get home before dark. I'm not looking forward to driving in the snow tomorrow, it's bad enough around here when the roads are dry I put away all my quilting things yesterday and I probably won't be able to get back to any of that until maybe next week. I'd just like to keep up with Moda Blockheads weekly blocks if I can, everything else can wait. Here's the block that came out yesterday: modafabrics.com/inspiration-resources/bh5-group-2-block-3-april-rosenthalTake care

Hello all.Ginny, well having Missouri quilt the blanket would be much easier for you. I guess it's matter of deciding If the time you would be saving and the stress of quilting it is worth having them do it. And I do remember that they did a good job quilting the last blanket. It sounds like the selling of your mother's house was a huge amount of work and I sure agree that a kitchen update is way to expensive. When I sell mine it will be as is. There are too many things that need updating in this house and since the property values are much higher now than they were when we bought this house I know we'll more than make our money back when we sell. And I do plan to sell it to one of those companies.
CJ, I'm sorry you have all this ice and snow to contend with. I hope you will be able to get a good price when the house is sold.
The picture that my dgd sent showed three lambs so I might make three however it took me forever to get all the parts made except two legs for the first one so today I have to finish that one then I guess I'll decide whether to just make two or go ahead with three. The problem was that the pattern called fr using a yarn like pipsqueek (fuzzy yarn) to make the top of the head and body so,, after trying plan B, I went with plan C making it with just plain yarn. My 9 year old grandson sent me an email that his little brother was extremely happy that I am going to make him a puppy and actually I plan to make him two puppies if I have the time before dh wants to go to where the bank and post office are located which I think he said Feb5th so I'll try to have all the things made and packed by then. And I think I'll make the puppies in shades of brown or maybe white with patches pf tan or light brown.I want to make one with Bernat blanket yarn and the other with just a worsted weight in Premier Basix yarn
Yesterday our temps got up to 40 degrees so I was surprised to find it only 5 degrees right now

Hello - Hope you are both doing well today. We had some light snow here today and tomorrow is supposed to be much colder. Because of the snow and cold weather the moving company cancelled all moves scheduled for today and this weekend. I was glad about that since I was concerned about driving today and clearing the snow at my house. So things happen for a reason I might try to set up my sewing machine again this weekend so I can make the Moda Blockheads block, at least then I'll be on track with that quilt along. Hope you both get to do some crafting this weekend too and that you have a good one

Cold and snowy here today….cannot believe that this morning at 5:45 I was drinking my tea and eating my oatmeal (completely ready to leave for work in 15 minutes) and I got the phone call that they were closing school for the day. Most schools in my county closed, but it was a late call. They usually announce school closings by 5 am.
Ruth, your puppies for DGS sound adorable and I know he will love them. I kind of wondered about all the tiny pieces to make lambs, and I know whether you make 2 or 3 little lambies it will be perfect and very loved. Plan C sounds like the perfect yarn, and they will not know that fuzzy yarns were an option…what a brave and loving grandma you are!
CJ- when are they actually moving your remaining items? It’s probably a burden on you too that the steps and walkways are cleared as I doubt the moving company will move your items if the snow is not cleared. Yes, you have hit the nail on the head, it’s a struggle to keep up a house that you do not live in anymore. Of course you do not want it to look vacant, so snow removal is important. You are wise to use one of those companies that buy homes, as long as you get something that is close to market value. If you use Zillow to determine market value, please know that Zillow tends to assess homes a bit high. I have heard that realtor.com is more realistic. Regarding the woman who bought my mother’s house, she was demanding and difficult. So demanding that neither my lawyer, the realor nor I attended the closing. On the walk through- the day before the closing, for some odd reason my mom’s garage door opener failed to work (never figured out what happened as it worked only a week earlier). Thankfully a wonderful handyman who helped me with some work at her house was able to stop by (my mom’s house is 40 miles from me and I could not get there). He could not get it to work either, so I emailed my lawyer and told him I had already given in enough to this demanding buyer and would only give her $100 toward the repair/replacment of the opener, and if she refused to accept that the sale was off. (Oh I was livid). For your sake I am thankful you are using one of those home buying companies…
So lets see, today I removed snow, ran one errand and cleared up some paperwork- throwing out a lot of stuff and getting my password cheat sheet updated (in case my kids have to take care of my affairs. So I will sit down shortly and pin that border on the baby quilt. I still have some paperwork to clear up but most of it is done. It’s always a struggle getting the end of the year stuff straightened out.
